This week Keena and Sara Celebrate Asian American Heritage Month with Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. The story follows Rachel Chu, a NYU Economist, and her boyfriend Nicholas Young's summer vacation to Singapore for a wedding. Through meeting his family, Rachel learns of their status in Singapore and how expectations on family, wealth, status, love and gender differ between the Asian American community and the Crazy Rich Asians. 

This week Keena and Sara celebrate Asian American Heritage Month with The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. 

The Namesake follows the life of Gogal Ganguli as he maneuvers the intricate balance of coming to terms with cultural identity and feeling innately different. The story is important to both Keena and Sara, with Jhumpa Lahiri's writing displaying poetic language while representing the ups and downs of being a second generation American.

Keena and Sara discuss Where'd You Go Bernadette, by Maria Semple, a novel that addresses success, motherhood and the anxieties faced in adulthood. Bernadette Fox goes on an adventure to figure out who she's become and who she wants to be, and how these choices affect her family. 

This week Sara and Keena review Where the Crawdads Sing, a novel by Delia Owens that follows the life of Kya in the Marsh around North Carolina. Both Keena and Sara share their different perspectives on expectations, love and what it means to survive. 

Keena and Sara discuss their opinions on Little Fires Everywhere and provide their insight. Growing up in a Midwest suburb similar to Shaker Heights, we share our perspectives on how Celeste Ng's novel describes family, growing up, culture and mother-daughter relationships. This is part two of the conversation on Little Fires Everywhere.

Sara is a rising junior studying Marketing and English at Northeastern University in Boston. My favorite books include YA novels that take place in the midwest and books with complex female characters.  I just finished the first draft of my YA Novel, and plan on working in New York City in a publishing firm with Keena in the future.

Keena is a rising junior studying Marketing and Creative Writing at Indiana University. She is a bubbly and positive aspiring writer with a talent for poetry and descriptive language. She really enjoys the To All the Boys book trilogy and hopes to work in New York City one day in the publishing industry.
