15. Learning about Adoption and Foster Parenting with Jillana Goble

What is it like to be an adoptive or foster family?

Today, we hear from adoptive and foster parent, Jillana Goble, and give you an insider’s look, highlighting both the beauty and challenges that come with the foster parenting journey. You’ll gain an appreciation for what every foster family goes through and how you can help a friend who is a foster parent.

Jillana Goble’s story highlights three different stories through her three children. She became a foster mom, biological mom and adoptive mom – in that order –starting in 2003. While many have been seated around her table over the years, five remarkable kids, who have stretched and shaped her, call her mom.

With over a decade-and-a-half experience of being a certified foster parent, Jillana has the privilege of walking alongside and mentoring many others. She founded Embrace Oregon, which has paved the way for unprecedented partnership between the community and the state’s Child Welfare agency.

If you know someone who has adopted or fostered, or if you want to learn to support those who do, this is an episode that highlights the challenges and beauty of taking this brave and beautiful journey.

13. The Silent Grief of Miscarriage

13. The Silent Grief of Miscarriage

This month is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Month, a time to remember the moms and dads who remember and grieve the babies they lost.

The Made for Hope Podcast is honoring those families by sharing stories about miscarriage and infant loss this month.

Our first guest for this special series is Anna Kettle, a writer from England, who shares her story of going through three miscarriage losses. Anna believes in the healing power of words and she offers so much hope for the woman who has suffered a miscarriage.

If you’re unsure how to help a friend in loss, or if you’ve experienced a miscarriage, Anna’s story is a powerful reminder of hope in the midst of ongoing loss and how to press in to Jesus when you’re in grief.

She also offers practical tips on how you can help a friend through loss—what you can say and practical ideas that will show your love and support to those who've experienced miscarriage.

Anna has her first book coming out in the spring, called Sand Between Your Toes, a collection of devotionals about slowing down, simplifying, and savoring a quiet and calm only Jesus can provide.

11. How to Have Hope Again After a Divorce with guest, Jodi Rosser

11. How to Have Hope Again After a Divorce with guest, Jodi Rosser

Today we’re talking about broken relationships, which is one of the most painful experiences that we can go through, especially when it’s a marriage. For writer and podcast host, Jodi Rosser, her divorce felt like the death of her dreams. But in the midst of that season, she also learned so much about family, faith, and what it means to have hope in the midst of broken dreams.

I loved this conversation with Jodi, because she is honest about the pain of walking through a divorce and the experience of finding hope again. She explains how she immersed herself in books that helped her heal, started writing through her pain, and discovered a calling to podcasting in the process.

I met Jodi through a writer's group called Hope*writers, which is now opening its doors for membership. It's a supportive place to help you achieve your writing dreams. Find out how to join here and become part of a supportive community of writers.

She also shares how afraid she was of sharing her news with friends. But after being vulnerable, she learned, "people are more attracted to your brokenness than your successes."  It was this beautiful truth that allowed her to share her story vulnerably and create a ministry from her pain.

9. From Career Woman to Homeschooling Mom with JJ Gutierrez

9. From Career Woman to Homeschooling Mom with JJ Gutierrez

JJ Gutierrez left her six-figure sales career to do something she never thought she’d do: homeschool her daughter.

JJ never imagined herself in the role of homeschooling mom. She was on a career track, but she recognized that something had to change, and this was the next right step.

This is a podcast for any mom who has:

—made a decision that wasn’t “part of the plan”

—helped your child through anxiety or fear (and the signs you need to watch for)

—decided to homeschool your child, whether you wanted to or not

—needed to find your worth in something other than your role

I loved this conversation with JJ because she’s real and authentic in her struggle to change from career woman to homeschool mom. She shares how she dealt with the loss of her career identity and the gifts she found in this new calling.

My favorite quote from our conversation: “I’ve had to let God redefine my value, so it’s not based on a dollar amount or a job title.”

If you’re dealing with big changes or have decided to homeschool, take a listen to JJ’s story.

Be sure to share this episode with a friend who’s made the decision to homeschool this year.

4. A Chapter from Sara’s book, “Made for Hope”

4. A Chapter from Sara’s book, “Made for Hope”

Sharing your story feels vulnerable.

Brené Brown said, “Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it's having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it's our greatest measure of courage.”

Today on the Made for Hope Podcast, I’m sharing one of my most vulnerable stories with you.

It’s called “No Going Back” from my new book, Made for Hope: Discovering Unexpected Gifts of Brokenness.

I wanted you to hear this story because I hope it makes you brave enough to share yours.

To take your story and allow it to reshape you into something stronger.

To identify those before and after moments that unite your story to mine.

We are stronger when we’re vulnerable, when we’re sharing our stories in community and support groups, and when we’re facing fear head on.

1. Facing Cancer and Overcoming Fear featuring Niki Hardy

When fear gets overwhelming, how do you get through? Today, I'm talking with author Niki Hardy on how to face a dreaded diagnosis and overcome fear.

Niki Hardy is a Brit in the USA, a rectal (yes, rectal) cancer survivor, pastor’s wife, tea drinker and teller of bad jokes. As a speaker and the author of Breathe Again: How to Live Well When Life Falls Apart, she’s all about meeting you when life’s not fair and helping you embrace the reality that with God, life doesn’t have to be pain-free to be full.

I asked Niki to join me on the show so you could hear her story of facing cancer and hanging on to hope in the midst of her own personal health crisis.

In this episode we'll talk about:

—Niki’s before and after moment that changed her life

—How she fought fear even at a critical moment

—How she learned how to keep her sense of humor

—Why she believes you can live abundantly even when you’re going through hard things

Niki’s story is not about facing a difficult diagnosis, but getting through it with humor and hope.  Listen to our conversation about facing cancer and overcoming fear.
