Holiday Gift Project
Each December, Sarah’s Inn clients have the opportunity to “shop” for holiday presents for their children at the annual Sarah’s Inn Holiday Gift Event! This year, we hope to provide gifts for over 300 children and teens impacted by domestic violence. In this episode of the Sarah's Inn podcast, Sarah's Inn Community Educator, Julia speaks to Mariam, the Volunteer and In-Kind Donation Coordinator, and Liz, the Advocacy and Community Partner Supervisor, about their experiences with this annual holiday event.

Trauma Informed in Domestic Violence Services
How do we hold space for trauma across programs?
Lau and Rebekah join Aniela for a discussion about how trauma shows up in their work. Lau is the supervisor to counselors of victims of domestic violence and Rebekah works with perpetrators. Together, they have a round discussion table about how trauma shows up across both programs. They also talk about the importance of being trauma-informed and how they handle trauma on a regular basis with their clients.

Supporting & Nurturing Children
How can parents support and nurture children?
Sarah's Inn counselors, Lau and Lidia, talk about a very important aspect of parenting: supporting, caring for, and protecting their children. Parents have the ability to strengthen and nurture their relationship with their children, and this can help children to grow into healthy and happy adults who are able to overcome challenges.
They'll identify and explain 8 ways parents can nurture, support, and create safety for their child/children. These are taken from the Nurturing Children Wheel. This wheel was originally developed through the Duluth Model to help support children exposed to domestic violence, but these tips can be helpful for any parent or family!

Let's Talk About It: What we wish we knew about dating as teens
February is Teen Dating Violence Action Month. One action that we can all take this month is to start talking about dating, whether those be conversations about what we look for in a relationship, what our boundaries are, or the examples of dating we see in the media. For this episode, the Sarah's Inn Prevention Team met up for a roundtable discussion about what they wish they knew when they were teens about dating. They also share tips they have for teens navigating the dating world in the present. Whether you are a teen yourself, a parent of a teen,someone who works with youth, or you are simply curious, this episode has something for you.

Youth Voice Award – Sarah’s Inn’s 2nd Annual Youth Voice Award is an opportunity for local area high school students ages 14-18 to share their thoughts around gender roles, domestic violence, and teen dating violence with the chance of being named one of the two winning projects that will be awarded prizes of $2,000.
