Episode #140--"Striving for Peace and Justice, One Day at a Time"--1:1 Conversation with Brenda Noriega
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Brenda Noriega, a speaker who I crossed paths with at the Given Institute Young Women's Catholic Leaders Forum held in Philadelphia. I had first encountered Brenda in the midst of the Vth National Encuentro that was held in 2018 in Dallas, Texas. At the time, I was impressed with her passion to evangelize, but especially in her willingness to truly walk alongside and accompany those with whom she was sharing the Good News. Brenda Noriega is a young minister committed to accompaniment and evangelization. She has been serving God’s people and influencing her community from an early age at the parish, diocesan, regional and national level. Brenda earned a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministries from the University of Santa Clara. She collaborates in multiple national and international committees representing young people, including the International Youth Consultative Body for the Dicastery of Laity and Family Life. She is passionate about holistic and transformational ministry including life, dignity, justice, and mission. Brenda is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Theology and Education at the School of Theology and Ministry in Boston College. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Brenda, as so much of what she shared about is near and dear to my heart, too, especially holistic formation, justice, dignity and the mission of all lay people to help bring about the transformation of the world. She inspires me, ad I hope our conversation will inspire you as well!

Episode #137--"Beauty's Power To Heal"--1:1 Conversation with Katie Weiss, Founder of Behold Visio Divina
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Katie Weiss, Founder of Behold Visio Divina.  I met Katie at the Given Institute's Women's Leadership Forum back in June, and also had the privilege of experiencing Visio Divina there as well. Our conversation focused upon Katie's own journey, how she unexpectedly came to be the founder of Behold, and how Behold is going about helping people encounter beauty. Behold is for women of all ages, backgrounds, and vocations, focusing on the theme of beauty and femininity.  Our program has the particular goal of leading women to transformation in Jesus Christ through the feminine heart of Mary. Behold is a program specifically built to give women the skills needed to pray using Visio Divina. This method of prayer is a complement to Lectio Divina, which is an encounter with God through open receptivity to His Word in Scripture. Visio Divina allows God to change one's life by not only listening to Him, but also encountering Him through art. Our focus is to help women know of their dignity by praying on Mary's feminine genius and finding the gifts that God has given them in their femininity. Katie shared also shared about the exciting initiatives that are happening within the Behold community and also about Insight program that is a partnership with Aquinas College in Nashville and the Institute for the Transformation of Catholic Education. The partnership has resulted in a series of free resources that are available on their website. I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation with Katie and I hope that you find that it helps you do WHATEVER IT TAKES so you be healed through the power of beauty in your own life. Episode #135--"Holy Spirit Moments"--1:1 Conversation with Christina Brown, Podcaster, Speaker, Coach
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Christina M. Brown, Podcaster, Speaker and Coach. I connected with Christina through a mutual friend and previous guest of the podcast, Sophia Lebano, who pointed Christina my direction. Was a complete joy to get to know Christina and hear her story of how the Holy Spirit has brought her to where she is today. Christina is a speaker and a coach who works with people because she has experienced the transformation that one-on-one coaching can do in a persons life. She's still a work in progress but she has discovered that there is a simple process that can be practiced to produce results. She takes the approach of using her own life circumstances and allows that personal experience to help others. She works with women to overcome anything that may be holding them back. She understands what it is like to feel stuck and she can empathize and relate with this experience, so she wants to help others the way she has been helped! In addition, there is the Thanks, Mom! podcast which is Christina and her daughter talking about everyday life and giving different takes on Catholic/Christian topics or simply other everyday topics. I pray that you enjoyed coming to know Christina and how the Holy Spirit has moved in her life producing many "holy moments" as much as I did, especially that you may continue to do whatever it takes to become the saint God created you to be! Episode #134--"God is God and I am Not!"
This latest podcast is a little delayed as this last week has seen the return of COVID to the house (my husband this time), and although he seems to have come through ok, the disruption that illness always brings with it was in full force. The grace though was that this situation caused an essential lesson of life to be on display in the midst of it, so this week's Food for the Head, Heart, Hands and Feet is designed to help you remember and live out the reality that "God is God, and I am not." In this episode, Christina speaks about: Why being present to others in the midst of their suffering helps us What is one of the best ways to deepen our appreciation for the Eucharist How growing in knowledge of God is really about knowing ourselves May this podcast help inspire, encourage and accompany you in doing WHATEVER IT TAKES so that you may continue to grow in holiness, so that we may tell the Master of Death, “Not Today!” Click below to get more information about the upcoming Personal Vocation and Leadership Mastermind. https://christina-semmens.mykajabi.com/personal-vocation-and-leadership-mastermind-1

Episode #133--"Freeing Our Time To Do Our Best Work"--1:1 Conversation with Jenny Blake, Author, Podcaster & Speaker
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Jenny Blake--an award-winning author and podcaster who loves helping people move from friction to flow so that they can free the time they need to be able to do their best work. This podcast was a special treat for me (and therefore a little longer than usual!) as Jenny Blake has been one of my mentors over the course of the last five years, especially by her own example of how it is possible to live a life that prioritizes what truly matters, do work to help others, and become your best self in the process. Jenny and I spoke about her love for helping others; her life with her husband and "fur-baby" in Manhattan; and also about how her fascination for strategies that help to navigate change and the exploration of systems at the intersection of mind, body, and business have led her on an unexpected journey filled with passion, joy and tons of opportunities to make the lives of others better. Her journey has led her to now write three books, Life After College, Pivot: The Only Move That Matters Is Your Next One, and most recently, Free Time: Lose the Busywork, Love Your Business. We spoke about how time isn’t money, but rather is life force. And how it's possible to go from burned-out bottleneck and Chief Everything Officer to working with joy and ease, through the power of Delightfully Tiny Teams® and using the Free Time Framework of Align-Design-Assign. But we also spoke about how to be fully present every day, build bridges and continuous discern how we can pause and ask how we can not just do our best work, but also become our best selves. I hope that you enjoy this conversation with Jenny as much as I did in having it, especially so you can continue to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to free your time and experience the life you were created for. Episode #131--"Vocation Is Not Just A State of Life"--1:1 Conversation with Dr. Joshua Miller, Executive Director, Inscape Vocations
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Dr. Joshua Miller, co-author with Luke Burgis of Unrepeatable: Cultivating the Unique Calling of Every Person (2018), contributing author to The Motivation Code (2020), and the Executive Director of the Inscape Center for Personal Vocation. Joshua and I had a truly enjoyable discussion about his own journey and how that has been instrumental for his passion for creating a culture of personal vocation and a driving force behind the latest initiative of the Inscape Center--the Missions Program. Joshua a leader in the field of narrative based motivational assessment, and for the last 18 years he has applied his expertise in a variety of applications, including executive search, organizational development, and talent management. His long standing desire to understand and help people develop their unique giftedness led to an MA & Ph.D. in Philosophy of the Human Person. He continues to effectively integrate learning from this study into his coaching and consulting practices. Joshua also helped build The Center for Leadership at Franciscan University of Steubenville where he currently serves as a vocation coach and vocation coach trainer for faculty and staff of the institution, and then he was a Co-Founder of Inscape Vocation with Luke Burgis which is responsible for the Missions Program. The Missions Program is designed specifically for young adults ages 18 –23 who want to do hands-on missionary service in a community context while growing in self-awareness and exploration of their unique, personal vocation. Joshua and I spoke about the specifics of the Missions program, and how it will serve to fill a gap being experienced by many young adults in our world today, but it was in the context of how it is that knowing the fullness of the truth regarding the Church's teaching about personal vocation is absolutely crucial for our own experiencing the life of freedom, peace and abundance that our God desires for us. I have discovered over the years that my conversations with Joshua are always illuminating, inspiring and serve to challenge me to do more to help others embrace the lives God created them for, and I can attest that this one was no different. I hope that you, too, are inspired to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to live out the fullness of your personal vocation each and every day and help those around you to do the same. Episode #130--Simple, Clear Direction"--1:1 Conversation with Cristofer Pereya & Erin Monnin, Authors, Catholic Leadership in Civil Society
The latest Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Cristofer Pereya and Erin Monnin, Authors of Catholic Leadership for Civil Society: A Practical Guide on Authentic Lay Leadership. Our conversation was focused upon how we can grow as leaders; the difference lay people can make by embracing their role as leaders in civil society; and the vital role Catholics can play within our society for bringing about positive change. Cristofer, Erin, and I spoke about their own journey that brought them to write a book about leadership; the Tepeyac Leadership Initiative (TLI); steps that all of us can take to be better leaders, and six areas where Catholic leadership can really make a difference in society today. With their new book, Catholic Leadership for Civil Society, authors Cristofer Pereyra and Erin Monnin provide a guide to authentic lay Catholic leadership. The book challenges the laity to take on leadership roles in the secular world. Catholic Leadership is structured to show that lay Catholic leadership is not meant to be lived out within the confines of the Catholic faith-community exclusively, but instead is to serve mainly as a guiding force which illuminates every aspect of secular society with the Truth of the Gospel. Their book explains why lay Catholic professionals have a unique responsibility and privileged opportunity to influence the world for Christ. It’s not an optional prerogative, but their duty as baptized children of God. A really important idea we spoke about is that if God has blessed someone with a professional career, then their career must obligatorily become your mission field. But best of all, their book explores specific fields and concrete ways to carry out Catholic leadership for civil society. My own interest in helping inspire, encourage and support others in becoming exactly who God created them to be--especially as leaders--resulted in a truly fascinating conversation, so I pray that this conversation inspires and encourages you to keep doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to grow into your best selves, especially as a leader. This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Marcie Stokman, Author and Founder of Well-Read Mom. Our conversation focused upon what prompted the publishing of her new book, The Well Read Mom; and how a passion for reading and desire for community spawned an international  movement that bears the same name--Well-Read Mom. Marcie and I dove deeply into books--particularly her own--The Well-Read Mom: Read More. Read Well.  We also touched upon motherhood, the transformative power of stories, how reading can provide the key to accessing the riches of our civilization, and also about how the Well-Read Mom movement came about. Founded in 2012, Well-Read Mom is a non-profit organization that accompanies women in the reading of great books and spiritual classics to encourage personal growth, friendship, and meaningful conversations in order to explore the human condition and reorient ourselves to what is good, true and beautiful. Episode #126--"Launching A Movement of Evangelization"--1:1 Conversation with Jason Simon, President, Evangelical Catholic
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Jason Simon, President of The Evangelical Catholic. Jason and I dove deep into why The Evangelical Catholic (EC) organization was begun, and also about the work that the organization is doing in order to ensure that lay people (us!) become courageous leaders helping to transform the world by fulfilling their mission in the world. In addition to talking about EC, Jason shared a bit of his own story--about how after working briefly in engineering, he began working in the Church as a parish Director of Religious Education and Youth Ministry. And then after experiencing the power of evangelization in the Church, his passion to see more lives impacted by the Holy Spirit grew tenfold, so he went seeking formation. In 2007, he graduated from the M.Div. Theology Program at the University of Notre Dame and then began leading the EC. Under his leadership, the Evangelical Catholic has experienced consistent expansion by equipping local Catholic leaders to not only be disciples, but disciple-makers. Jason and the EC’s staff built Reach More™ and Nextstep to equip Catholic lay leaders to fulfill the Great Commission. He lives in Madison, Wisconsin with his wife, Grace, and six children. This conversation with Jason was inspiring and extremely encouraging, especially in hearing about how lives are being transformed as a result of EC's work,. This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Dr. Richard Ludwick, President of the University of St. Thomas Houston. Dr Ludwick and I had a marvelous conversation where we spoke about the power of stories and how that resulted in the current initiative being pursued through a collaboration between UST, Houston and the Word on Fire Institute--The New Evangelization and New Media Series. How he received his BA in history from the University of Evansville, an MA in higher education administration from Teachers College of Columbia University (New York), then a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University’s Robert H. Episode #119--"Come To The Feet Of Jesus"--1:1 Conversation with Claire McGarry, Author
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Claire McGarry, author of the book, Grace in Tension: Discover Peace with Marth and Mary.  Claire and I spoke about her writing, the challenges of motherhood, as well as the inspiration behind her latest book, Grace in Tension, which explores how strives to help us understand how God can guide us through our most stressful and challenging struggles. We all face stress and tension in our daily lives. How we respond either diffuses or ignites it. If lit, we can feel stretched beyond our capabilities, wondering why our God of abundant goodness doesn’t remove the struggles we face. Grace in Tension affirms that although God doesn’t create our tension, he does show up in the midst of it to lead us through. Centered on Jesus’ interactions with Martha and Mary in the gospels, we can follow the sisters’ transformative journeys through their own struggles. Reflecting on what transpires between Scripture verses, we see their initial tension become the catalyst that drives both Mary and Martha to the feet of Jesus — the perfect place to discover peace. Simultaneously, Grace in Tension explores the areas where stress arises in our own lives. Each chapter contains helpful tips to address it, a thought-provoking prayer to inspire us to go to God with our problems, and questions for reflection to help us see all the ways he is working for our good. No matter how big or small our struggle, when we seek out God, he reveals what we need to do to resolve our tension, transforming it into grace. I pray that this conversation with Claire inspires and encourages you to allow God to lead you through whatever tension and stress you may have currently be facing in your life by doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to discover the peace and abundance that our Lord desires for you. "Magnifying the Lord"--Episode #117 Say Yes to Holiness Podcast 1:1 with Kaylene Brown, Author of Magnify
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Kaylene Brown, author of the book, Magnify. Magnify is the foundational text used to make a Magnify90 journey, and contains 90 days of meditations to help you grow in virtue. Specifically, Magnify 90 is a feminine spirituality journey that relies on our commitment to strive each day to empty ourselves of worldly desires, so that the joy of God’s life within our souls fills us to the point of agape love for others. Kaylene and I speak about the genesis of Magnify90, our connection as fellow Family members of the Apostles of Interior Life, the beauty of the feminine genius, the complementary nature of men and women,  and how the Magnify90 journey has deepened Kaylene's (and my own!) spiritual journey and how it can do the same for you. Magnify 90 takes you on a journey of 90 days in which you each week you learn from a different female saint while you seek to cultivate a particular virtue in your life. The journey itself is one which asks you to foster a deep relationship with God and others. Magnifying the Lord as a charism is every woman's call, because it is the essence our receptivity, generosity, sensitivity, and maternity. We seek to maintain receptivity to the Will of God through growth in our interior life, while at the same time giving witness to those around us of the Good News of Jesus Christ. In our current culture of the modern world, this is very difficult since the culture seeks to negatively influence our relationship with God. Although we must live in the world, we are called to be a light for the world, beacons of hope, a city on a hill, so the Magnify 90 journey helps you to connect with your sisters across the world by becoming more fully the saints each of us were created to be. I pray that this conversation with Kaylene inspires and encourages you to take the challenge to make your own Magnify journey and to keep doing WHATEVER IT TAKES so that you can go about magnifying the Lord by your life as well. Episode #115--"People Need To Experience Christ"--1:1 Conversation with Mario Costabile, Array of Hope
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Mario Costabile, founding member and the executive director of Array of Hope. Mario has been a successful music and film producer for over 40 years and received numerous awards for his work, but our conversation today focused upon his most recent endeavor--Array of Hope. Array of Hope is a streaming platform that shares the Catholic faith through high quality media and music events. Think of it as a Catholic MTV with family wholesome programming, but it is truly designed to help people experience the person of Christ through music and media. Mario has produced content for film, television, and the recording business. Among the notable organizations he has done work for are MTV, VH1, FuseH, Discovery Channel, the SYFY Channel, Off-Broadway productions, Yamaha Music, Sony Music, Def Jam Records, and Universal Music. Mario has also created and produced many programs that regularly air on Catholic radio and television networks such as EWTN, The Catholic Television Network, The Catholic Faith Network, Salt and Light Media, Shalom World TV, and the NET. In the past few years, Mario produced a television series called “Fatima Gems” which is part of the online streaming service FORMED. In 2009 Mario musically produced two hit singles on Christian Radio, “I Need An Angel” and “Alone Time” for the band Sacred Road. Currently, Mario is working on new music in 2022 to be released through Array Of Hope. Mario is committed to utilizing his talents to do God’s will, and he launched Array of Hope in union with the vision to unite families and help them grow closer to God. In 2020 Mario was awarded the Legatus “Bowie Kuhn Special Award” for evangelization. An award which recognizes an individual who has exhibited significant efforts to spread the good news of Jesus Christ among his peers, so very appropriate that our conversation revolved around the idea that "people need to experience Christ." I pray that this conversation with Mario excites and encourages you as much as it did me to see how the Holy Spirit is inspiring people to use their gifts and talents in service of building the Kingdom, and also that it helps you continue to do WHATEVER IT TAKES so that people experience Christ through you as well. Episode #111--Put Yourself On The Altar"--1:1 Conversation with Jesse Weiler, The Liturgy Guys Podcast
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Jesse Weiler, Host of The Liturgy Guys podcast. The conversation between Jesse and I ran the length and breadth and height and depth of topics concerning the liturgy. Everything from what parts of the Mass we should be singing, to books and online courses we can use to grow in our appreciation and understanding of the Mass to how he ended up being a host of a podcast about the liturgy was all part of our fast paced and enjoyable conversation. The Liturgy Guys podcast is an initiative of the Liturgical Institute, Adoremus Bulletin, and Benedictine College. Christopher Carstens and Dr. Denis McNamara sit down with host Jesse Weiler every week to talk about Catholic Liturgy. At the end of each episode our Liturgy experts take time to answer listener submitted questions. The goal of this podcast is to share the treasures of Liturgy with English speaking Catholics all over the world. Jesse also serves as the Director of The Liturgical Institute, so we spent some time talking about the mission of the Institute that was established in the year 2000 by His Eminence Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago, in order to prepare Catholics for a “new era in liturgical renewal.” It serves a diverse international student population of laity, religious and clergy. Monsignor M. Francis Mannion served as its founding Director, and established the sacramental foundation for the program that it enjoys today. The Liturgical Institute prepares its students in a context of prayer and scholarship with the Church’s future priests, deacons, pastors and ministers to bring solid theological knowledge, critical reasoning and practical skills to bear on the challenges opened by the exciting phase of liturgical renewal emerging in recent years. I pray that this conversation with Jesse helps encourage you to continue to do WHATEVER IT TAKES so as to increase your active, full and conscious participation in the Mass and bring greater glory to God. Episode #109--"Being Deeply, Authentically And Permanently Pro-Life"--1:1 Conversation with Camille Pauley, Healing the Culture
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Camille Pauley, Co-Founder and President of Healing the Culture. On this eve of the National Day of Prayer for the Unborn (January 22), this conversation is timely, but is especially encouraging in light of the upcoming Supreme Court decision that might overturn, or at least dramatically reduce abortion on demand in our country. The conversation between Camille and I revolved around her own journey from "aspiring actress" to becoming the co-founder of Healing the Culture alongside Fr Robert Spitzer, SJ; how God continues to guide and direct their work; and a discussion about the possibilities that might come from the Supreme Court  Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision. Camille Pauley is co-founder and President of Healing the Culture, a nonprofit organization that evangelizes and converts people to be deeply, authentically, and permanently pro-life. She is the creator of multiple internationally acclaimed educational pro-life programs, including RespectLife.University and Life Advocacy Student Training (L.A.S.T.) for college students, Principles and Choices© for high school students, and Philo and Sophie: Philosophy for Children!© for elementary school students. In 2003 Camille co-founded Healing the Culture with Fr. Robert Spitzer using his unique curriculum to change hearts and minds, and build a culture of life. Under Camille’s leadership, Healing the Culture has quickly grown into an internationally recognized organization with a powerful pro-life message, a wealth of successful products and resources, and tremendous influence in the cultural battle over abortion and euthanasia. Their online resources, K-12 curricula, leadership training programs, and media productions have helped countless individuals to reject abortion and euthanasia, and to become effective pro-life leaders and advocates. In over 25 years as a professional pro-life advocate, Camille has inspired politicians, judges, lawyers, medical professionals, and church leaders to defend the sanctity of human life. Episode #107--"Growing In Freedom"--1:1 Conversation with James Baxter, Co-Founder, Exodus 90
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with James Baxter, Co-founder, and CEO of Exodus 90. Exodus 90 is a ninety-day Catholic program for men based on Christ's roadmap to freedom: prayer, asceticism, and fraternity. Our conversation focused upon James' story of his journey to becoming the co-founder of Exodus 90, and how God has continued to move in his life in the midst of journeying with more than 50,000 men on the Exodus journey. James attended St. John Vianney Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota and St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in St. Meinrad, Indiana before discerning God was calling him to marriage and secular life. In 2015, James assumed responsibility for scaling Exodus 90 from a seminary formation program into a spiritual exercise to bring the freedom of Jesus Christ to His men. James now lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana with his wife Colleen, son Joseph and baby girl Genevieve. Exodus 90 allows men who desire to grow in the spiritual life and gain greater freedom to call together a fraternity of 5-7 men to join them in following a set structure of prayer, asceticism, and fraternity for 90 days. During this time they will be led by daily readings from the book of Exodus, paired with daily reflections, to keep them on the road to freedom. Research shows that habits can be dramatically transformed in a span of 90 days. And, when put in the context of Biblical stories, a routine prayer life, and a fraternity of brothers to support you, men experience freedom from unwanted habits and an ability to be who they were truly called to be: Men in Christ. Men of the Church. Men for Others. I pray that this conversation with James helps inspire you to keep doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to either take up the Exodus90 challenge yourself, or to encourage the and support the men you love in your life to SAY YES to this invitation to become more fully the man God created them to be. FemCatholic is a nonprofit organization that seeks to educate, encourage. and empower women, and believe that the greatest untapped resource in the world, and in the Church - is women. Our conversation revolved around Samantha's personal story and how her passion for sharing the Good News morphed into a movement to help women explore the reality between their daily lives and the truth of the faith. After Samantha graduated from the University of Notre Dame with degrees in business and theology, she started her career in Chicago working in consulting and project management, but now currently lives in Greater Philadelphia with her husband, Matt, and three kids. In addition to the Samantha's personal story, we also spoke about the FemCatholic's 3-part strategy to educate, encourage and empower women to live integrated and holistic lives. "Our Desperate Need For God One Day At A Time"--1:1 Conversation with Scott Weeman, Founder of Catholic in Recovery
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Scott Weeman of Catholic in Recovery. Scott is the founder of Catholic in Recovery, a nonprofit organization that seeks to serve those suffering from addictions and unhealthy attachments (including alcoholism, drug addiction, pornography addiction, sex and relationship addiction, compulsive overeating and food addictions, gambling addiction, codependency and the impact on family, and general fear, control, and anxiety). Our conversation revolved around Scott's personal story and how his journey became the launching point for the Catholic in Recovery movement that now accompanies thousands of people across the world. Catholic in Recovery came from the passion of Scott Weeman as he found healing and new life through the help of twelve-step recovery and the sacramental love and mercy provided by the Catholic Church. Catholic in Recovery now supports parishes and communities with group resources that draw people closer to these two powerful sources of grace. Most wonderful though is that the primary aim of Catholic in Recovery is to share the Good News that God can bring about healing and recovery, even in the most hopeless of cases. n addition to the Scott's personal story, we also spoke about the different options that have emerged within Catholic in Recovery to assist people struggling with addictions, compulsions and unhealthy attachments. Episode #103--"Born Out Of Our Pain"--1:1 Conversation with Kelly Breaux, Red Bird Ministries
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Kelly Breaux of Red Bird Ministries. Kelly and her husband, Ryan, are the founders of Red Bird Ministries, a ministry designed to accompany people in the wake of the loss of a loved one. Our conversation revolved around their personal story which was key to the founding of Red Bird Ministries, as well as things that we can do to help accompany others struggling with loss. Red Bird Ministries systematically guides individuals and couples through the complexity and drama that happens with the loss of a loved one--be it a spouse, parent, or a child. While there are important differences and dynamics with losing a spouse, parent, or a child, the core methodology that Red Bird Ministry developed remains at the heart of their approach, specifically, a small group model along with the accompaniment of companion couples and advocates, all who can serve families on their journey to healing and restoration. In addition to the Breaux's personal story, we also spoke about the different options that Red Bird Ministries offers to assist people struggling with grief: a couples workshop; online support groups; and numerous downloadable resources and links, plus practical steps we can take to accompany others struggling with grief. This conversation with Kelly was deeply moving, and I pray you receive as much hope, inspiration and encouragement as I did from hearing how God works through even the most difficult things to bring about good in the world. Episode #101--"Accept the Fact That It's Going To Be Messy"--1:1 Conversation with Kelly Guest, Catholic Author
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Kelly Guest, mother of nine, author of Saintly Moms: 25 Stories of Holiness. Our conversation was a fascinating and enjoyable one as we discussed Kelly's journey from being a Dominican nun to becoming a mother of nine to eventually publishing her book, and how all of those experiences prepared her to live out the fullness of her vocation. Kelly Guest was an ordinary American girl who was not certain what she wanted to do or what God was calling her to do, so she attended community college as she discerned her options. She then met the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia, and decided that she wanted to be like them, so she began her journey to discern religious life. She spent five years living with the Nashville Dominicans, but it was not God’s will that she stay, so she returned home. Soon after, she met her future husband and married him three years later. Since then, they have been blessed with nine children whom Kelly homeschools. In the midst of  this, Kelly writes and shares on has her own blog, Nun2Nine, and wrote her book, Saintly Moms: 25 Stories of Holiness. We spoke about the importance of humility and zeal as moms, our reasons for writing, and how we need to embrace the chaos and accept the fact that it's going to be messy as we journey towards holiness. I can’t tell you how much I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation with Kelly, and I pray you receive as much hope, inspiration and encouragement as I did so you may continue doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to continue to deepen your relationship with Christ so you can become exactly who God created you to be. Episode #100--How Is The Word Transforming Your Life?
It's Advent. And the key to Advent is about preparing ourselves to be transformed by the coming of the Word Made Flesh, Emmanuel, at Christmas. This is the focus of the 100th episode of the Say Yes to Holiness podcast, in which Christina shares Food for the Head, Heart, Hands and Feet that speaks to how well are we doing in allowing the Word to transform our lives so we can become who God created us to be and embrace the life He desires for us--lives of purpose, peace and abundance. Episode #99--"Babel to Pentecost"--1:1 Conversation with Anthony D'Ambrosio
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness 1 on 1 Conversation podcast episode is with Anthony D'Ambrosio, Co-founder of Catholic Creatives, Sherwood Fellows and OSV Innovation Talk speaker. A lack of vulnerability and the plague of arrogant self-interest destroys relationships. In ministry, like most things, honesty and openness lead to successful mission. Anthony's OSV Innovation Talk, "Babel to Pentecost," walks us through the rawness of Anthony’s life and encourages viewers to be “naked” to one another for purposes of healing and unity. My conversation with Anthony was deeply profound and rich with much to inspire and encourage each of us on the journey to become "naked" and humble ourselves in our interactions with one another while encountering the full richness of the beauty of our Lord's mercy and forgiveness. Anthony's OSV talk definitely challenged, invited and inspired me to reevaluate my willingness to engage in authentic conversation with others, and to desire and seek out relationships of abundance. This 1:1 conversation will do the same for you. Anthony D’Ambrosio is a storyteller and marketing specialist who has spent the last five years studying how communities and movements come together around shared purpose. Through his company Sherwood Fellows, he has participated in relaunching the brands of over a hundred organizations. His team also built Catholic Creatives, the definitive community for Catholic entrepreneurs, artists, designers, and filmmakers. His interests span from philosophy to the mythology and rituals of tribal peoples. He ran an underground fight club in his seminary, and among his favorite things are simmering a pot of homemade Italian red sauce, keeping houseplants alive, and writing poetry. During our conversation, I was inspired and challenged by Anthony's perspective of encountering beauty, and how vital it is to be able to become vulnerable and behold beauty in others so we can experience forgiveness and healing, but also so we can become the creations God made us to be. As we prepare to begin Advent, I pray you are inspired to go deeper and become vulnerable so that you may continue doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to set aside inauthentic versions of ourselves and seek to collaborate with others on projects that will transform our world and make it a more resplendent with beauty.

Episode #98--"Daily Bread Discernment"--1:1 Conversation with Sister Josephine Garrett
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness 1 on 1 Conversation podcast episode is with Sister Josephine Garrett, religious sister of the Holy Family of Nazareth community and OSV Innovation speaker. speaker. My conversation with Sr Josephine focused upon going even deeper into the topic of her OSV talk, entitled, Daily Bread Discernment. From bank executive to religious Sister, conversion can truly turn your life upside down, and Sister Josephine's was no different! All conversion and change is rooted in discernment. Sr. Josephine shares a beautiful message about vocation and the need to accept the daily offering of our God for HIS purposes and of sharing the mission. Her OSV talk definitely challenged, invited and inspired me to re-think the need for conversion and the path of healthy discernment, and our 1:1 conversation does the same. Sister Josephine is a native Texan, born and raised in Houston. She moved to Dallas in 1999 to begin studies at the University of Dallas where she completed a BA in Political Philosophy with a Business Concentration. Sister subsequently entered the banking industry, serving for 10 years as a Vice President in the Home Loans division of Bank of America in the roles of Operations Manager of a staff of 200 and later as a Project Manager. Sister was raised Baptist and entered the Catholic Church in 2005. Later, in November of 2011, she began her formation to be a religious Sister. In November of 2020 Sister Josephine professed her final vows as a Sister of the Holy Family of Nazareth. She is a licensed counselor. serving as the school counselor for the cathedral grade school in Tyler, TX, and also in private practice. Sister has also served in vocations ministry and as a national speaker for youth and young adults, speaking to groups of up to 25,000. During our conversation, I was enriched by Sister Josephine's insights into the spiritual life, and how important it is to slow down and let God take the lead in all things, especially as He reveals His plan for our lives. I just loved spending time in conversation with Sr Josephine, and I pray you receive as much hope, inspiration and encouragement as I did so you may continue doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to to fully live in the present moment and be open to whatever daily bread God desires to give you.

Episode #96--"Every Vocation Begins With A Relationship With Christ"--1:1 Conversation with Father Michael Zimmerman
Happy National Vocations Awareness Week! To help raise awareness, I am so very pleased to share this week’s Say Yes to Holiness 1 on 1 Conversation podcast episode that I had with Father Michael Zimmerman, Assistant Vocations Director for the Archdiocese of Boston and adjunct Scripture Professor at St. John’s Seminary. Our conversation revolved around responding to God's invitation to holiness, discerning one's vocation, discussion of Fr Michael's innovative use of YouTube to help provide accompaniment to those discerning, some simple things parents can do to make the home a place where discernment naturally occurs, and also some things NOT to say to someone discerning a religious vocation! Fr. Michael Zimmerman was ordained to the priesthood in 2017 and currently serves as assistant Vocation Director for the Archdiocese of Boston and adjunct Scripture Professor at St. John’s Seminary. With the heart of a teacher, Fr. Michael was inspired to create a systematic discernment program for young men drawing from the wisdom that he received as part of his own formation. During the pandemic lockdown in May 2020, Fr. Michael scripted 27 episodes which are now part of a video series called Scivias. Filmed in a way that captures many of Fr. Michael’s own interests such as rock climbing, track and field, art, drawing, and of course the city of Boston (!), Fr. Michael hopes others can identify with his journey and recognize how pursuing God’s plan for their lives will fulfill their greatest desires. Throughout our conversation, Fr Michael shared his own story of discernment and the reality that every vocation has to begin with a relationship with Christ, which of course, led into a discussion of growing in holiness! I can’t tell you how much I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation with Fr. Michael, and I pray you receive much hope, inspiration and encouragement as I did so you may continue doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to continue to deepen your relationship with Christ so you can embrace the fullness of your vocation. Episode #93--"Liturgical Orphans"--Deacon Charlie Echeverry 1 on 1 Conversation
This week’s Say Yes to Holiness 1 on 1 Conversation podcast episode is with Deacon Charlie Echeverry, Founder and Managing Director of Black/Brown, and an OSV Innovation Talk speaker. Did you know that 42% of U.S. Catholics are Latino? And if you only count those aged 18 and younger, it's 63%! So how is it that our Catholic communities have become so segregated? In this eye-opening talk, Dcn. Charlie Echeverry calls attention to the “powderkeg” that is the Latino Catholic community in the U.S. If the Church is to live, we must listen to the voice of God together—rather than letting a difference of language separate us. This was a part of our conversation as well as Deacon Charlie's talk, entitled, "Liturgical Orphans" in which we explore the tremendous opportunities, but also tremendous risks facing our Church today because of these realities. Deacon Charlie is founder of Black//Brown an LA-based strategic advisory.  He’s held executive positions at AOL, Walt Disney & Univision and has entrepreneurial experience with a number of start-ups. He is President of Sofesa.org, Vice Chairman of Catholic Answers and is on the boards of the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders, The Vida Initiative, Tepeyac Institute; Juan Diego Network and Sent Ventures. He is married to his wife Jessica, has 5 kids and is ordained for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles where he serves at St. Gerard Majella Parish. During our conversation, Deacon Charlie shared a bit of his story of how he came to be the Founder and Managing Director at Black/Brown as well as a permanent deacon in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as we also discussed the need to be missionaries to the Latino community coming of age in the Church today. Episode #91--"The Singing Organist"--1 on 1 Podcast Conversation with Whitney Maslak
In this 1 on 1 podcast conversation, Christina has the privilege of speaking with Whitney Maslak, Singer, Musician, and Recording Artist. Whitney and I connected through my Say Yes to Holiness website, and our conversation focused upon music, particularly the release of Whitnek's upcoming album. Based in the Rocky Mountains near Yellowstone National Park, Whitney Maslak is a classically-trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who is inspiring audiences throughout the world with her interpretation of classical sacred music. Dubbed “The Singing Organist,” Whitney accompanies her vocals herself not only with pipe organ, but also with acoustic guitar and piano. The sacred music she records covers many centuries—from medieval Gregorian chant and early music, to classical sacred arias, to beloved traditional hymns. Whitney’s debut single, O God Beyond All Praising, was released on February 12, 2021. This beautiful hymn set to Gustav Holst’s theme from the “Jupiter” movement of The Planets is set to be a fan favorite for years to come. In the meantime, Whitney is working on a full-length album of other traditional hymns which is planned to be released later in 2021. Along with working on her first album, Whitney also devotes a large amount of her time to being an organist and cantor at her local parish, providing music for weekend Masses as well as funerals and weddings. In addition, she provides lessons to both children and adults in piano, guitar, and voice. Whitney loves bringing inspiring music to a world that so desperately needs to find hope. She has discovered that sacred music carries the message of Christ’s love and peace in a way that nothing else can, and she is so grateful to be able to share her music with people all over the world. May this podcast help inspire, encourage and accompany you to continue doing WHATEVER IT TAKES so we can tell the Master of Death, “Not Today!” You can find out more about Whitney here: https://www.whitneymaslak.com/  You can watch videos of her music here: https://www.whitneymaslak.com/videos Or you can purchase her music here: https://www.whitneymaslak.com/shop And you can also watch this podcast on the Say Yes to Holiness YouTube channel

Episode #90--Love and Care for the Marginalized--1 on 1 Conversation with Anne DeSantis
In this conversation, Christina speaks again with Anne DeSantis, Author, Speaker, Podcast Host, & Non-Profit Director of the St. Raymond Nonnatus Foundation for Freedom, Family, and Faith.  This time, we spoke about Anne's new book, Love and Care for the Marginalized: Spiritual Outreach Reflections for Catholics. Our discussion focused upon how each of us can grow in our awareness of who is marginalized as where the marginalized are, and how we can respond as Christ asks us to. Her book consists of 40 reflections designed to help you pray and reflect, but more importantly, to take some small action each day to grow in love and care for the marginalized in your midst--like a homeless person, an immigrant, an elderly person in a nursing home, or an estranged family member.  The biggest takeaway for me from our conversation is that the only truly effective action is one combined with prayer, and this is Anne's latest book helps you cultivate that attitude and habit in your mind, heart and soul.  Anne also writes for three on-line publications: CatholicMom, Catholic 365, and Catholic Lane, hosts the on-line program called "Journeys in Faith with Anne DeSantis" on Fiat Ministry Network and Patchwork Heart Ministry, and cohosts a weekly podcast with Bill Snyder called  the "Sewing Hope Podcast" on Patchwork Heart Ministry, as well. In addition to her apostolic work, Anne is wife, mother, and former homeschooling parent to her two grown daughters, Alaine and Shawn.  She and her husband Angelo DeSantis have been married for over 30 years and they reside within the Philadelphia area suburbs, and are both members of the Third Order of Mercy which is a prayerful/active member of the Mercedarian Religious Order.  You can find out more about Anne at: https://www.annedesantis.com/ You can purchase her book here  To sign up for her upcoming event at Mayslake Ministries, register here

Episode #88--"Cultivating a Hundredfold Harvest"--1 on 1 Podcast Conversation with Rhonda Gruenewald, Author and Founder of VocationMinistry.com
In this 1 on 1 podcast conversation, Christina sits down to speak with Rhonda Gruenewald, founder of VocationMinistry.com and author of two books, Hundredfold and The Harvest. This conversation was very timely, especially as Worldwide Priesthood Sunday is occurring the weekend of September 25-26. During our conversation, Rhonda and I spoke about the challenges inherent in discerning a vocation as well as how to go about promoting a culture of vocations--be it in a family, parish, school, or someone's personal life. And for me, it came down to an attitude that can be captured in one word--intentionality. Rhonda is a full-time wife and mother of two teenagers, and converted to the faith thanks to her husband of 19 years, David. Prior to volunteering in the field of vocations, she graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and taught English, speech, and debate at a public high school for 6 years. Rhonda converted to Catholicism in 1999 and became active in parish life at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. Vocation Ministry has worked with more than 6,000 vocation promotors and ministries nationwide with that number increasing each year. “The demand is there,” says Rhonda. “People everywhere are passionate about increasing and nurturing vocations. I see it all over the country. This passion stems not only from a desire to foster more healthy vocations, but truly from people’s love for Christ and his Church. The Church of tomorrow already exists – we just have to begin to awaken it!” Rhonda wrote Hundredfold: A Guide to Parish Vocation Ministry and its accompanying resource book and developed the website VocationMinistry.com to provide information, activities, and inspiration for anyone seeking to establish or revive a vocation ministry. The goal of Hundredfold: A Guide to Parish Vocation Ministry and VocationMinistry.com is to provide information, activities, and inspiration to anyone starting, reviving, or refreshing a Vocation Ministry, and to make those ministries thrive. It is designed to inspire parishes to get involved in vocation work, to help new ministries start strong by providing a clear guide to the nuts and bolts of the ministry and to reinvigorate long-standing committees with fresh ideas that attract new workers to his vineyard. Now, the website and the book are in Spanish, too, as Sembrando Semillas. Her latest book, The Harvest: A Guide to Vocation Ministry in Education, is a 200-page comprehensive guide that provides practical advice and inspiration, including 75 impactful activities, easily implemented in classroom settings. This ground-breaking approach will give our Catholic educators the resources needed to positively affect the Church and our youth for generations to come. As author and founder of Vocation Ministry, a 501 c3 nonprofit, Rhonda has been showcased on EWTN Live with Fr. Mitch Pacwa, SJ, Sirius/XM Catholic Radio Seize the Day with Gus Lloyd and the Busted Halo Show, and it was a great joy to have her on the Say Yes to Holiness podcast.

This week’s Say Yes to Holiness 1 on 1 Conversation podcast episode is with Dan Cellucci, CEO of the Catholic Leadership Institute. This conversation continues the OSV Innovation Talk speaker series. An unspoken fear looms over Catholics this year: “What if things don’t go back to normal?” In his OSV Talk, "What If They Don't Come Back?," Dan Cellucci proposes a much-needed response: What if that’s a good thing? What if God is calling us to be much greater than the “old normal”? In this stirring talk, Cellucci reminds us that Christianity is not about meeting a bare minimum. It’s about seeking more abundant life—in every time and in every place. Dan Cellucci is CEO of Catholic Leadership Institute, an apostolate providing leadership training and consulting to more than 280 bishops, 2,700 priests, and 27,000 lay leaders in over 100 dioceses. Episode #83--"Cliffnotes for Catholics"--1 on 1 Conversation with Chris Bartlett, Founder of EQUIPT
In this 1 on 1 conversation, Christina speaks with Chris Bartlett, founder of EQUIPT about EQUIPT's innovation mission and purpose of providing book summaries from a Catholic perspective in order to help Catholics come to know God and make Him known in the world.  Catholic Book Summaries for Catholic Disciples? Yep. Do you have a HUGE pile of books next to your bed that you are intending to read, but never get around to reading them? Well, you might want to check out this conversation that I recently had with Chris Bartlett, founder of Equipt. What exactly is Equipt? It is a book summary platform that offers summaries of the most relevant books in leadership, Christian formation, and spiritual growth through the lens of Catholic Discipleship. Very simply, it's Cliffnotes (or Blinkist) for Catholics. But better. I came across Equipt soon after they launched their service, and I immediately reached out to Chris to have a discussion about this innovative and timely idea, and Chris graciously agreed to sit down with me. During our conversation, I discovered that Chris lives in Round Rock, Texas with his wife and children where he also serves as the Director of Leadership Formation for Ablaze Ministries. I had come across Ablaze Ministries before as they intentionally invest into ministry leaders, especially those involved with youth, so had seen some of their brilliant work which includes a 360 approach towards Youth Ministry. It is from his work with Ablaze and supporting ministry leaders that Equipt emerged as a needed resource, especially in order to assist people in being formed holistically. Equipt focuses upon sharing three books a month, one book for spiritual development, one for human formation and another for leadership best ideas/practices. The idea of these three categories came from the need seen to help people grow in their their baptismal call as priest (spiritual), prophet (formation) and king (leadership), and the desire to help people "know God and make God known." Additionally, the summaries come in audio and PDF form, and the best part (for me at least) is that each summary ends with a "takeaways" breakdown from which you can easily develop some daily resolutions and apply the ideas immediately to your life. And all that for barely more than a cup of latte! Needless to say, I am a HUGE fan, but I think you'll be convinced once you listen to our conversation, too! Episode #75--"The Subtle Deterioration of True Professionalism"--Jason Deuterman, OSV Innovation Talk Speaker
Episode #75 "The Subtle Deterioration of True Professionalism"--1 on 1 Conversation with Jason Deuterman, OSV Innovation Talk Speaker This Say Yes to Holiness podcast episode continues the series of conversations with OSV Innovation Talk speakers. This time the discussion is with Jason Deuterman, Director of Youth, Young Adults, and Campus Ministries in the Diocese of Dallas. With a fearless passion for Christ, Jason Deuterman has made it his mission to be counter cultural and share God’s love with every person.  At the very core of his being, Jason believes that every person’s story matters, most especially when experienced through the lens of the greatest story ever told—the story of Jesus Christ.  His raw authenticity coupled with an abiding love for Scripture is both inviting and challenging, as Jason believes deeply that while faith can often seem trendy, it means nothing unless it is transcendent. In his OSV Innovation talk, entitled, The Subtle Deterioration of True Professionalism, Jason speaks about how ministry is not a career…or at least…it shouldn’t be. However, ministry does demand professionalism in both approach and exercise. But what does this mean? Jason's talk invites us to assess their own ministry behavior and re-examine the high standards set by the history of professional ministry throughout time. Episode #74--"The Inefficient Innovator"--1 on 1 Conversation with Jason Shanks
In this podcast, Christina sits down with Jason Shanks, President of the OSV Institute for Catholic Innovation and OSV Innovation Talk speaker to discuss his talk "The Inefficient Innovator" and the state of ministry and discipleship, especially within the Church.  Jason brings a wealth of background and experience to his role as President of OSV Institute, overseeing the annual OSV Challenge and OSV Talks, both launched to ignite creativity and entrepreneurship in the Catholic Church. His vision for renewal through innovation is unparalleled and stems from his conviction that the Church is evergreen from generation to generation and must be re-presented fresh and anew to today’s modern world. Our conversation covered many topics, including Jason's own life-threatening battle with COVID, the work of the OSV Institute for Catholic Innovation and the crisis of innovation within the Church that prompted the "pivot" of the OSV Institute to focus upon innovation by sponsoring the OSV Innovation Challenge and launch the Innovation Talk series, fear, urgency of the mission to share the Good News, and how we all need to be about seeking to live out our life of faith "new in ardor, expression and method."  The OSV Institute is dedicated to inspiring and encouraging innovative and effective Church-related programs and activities helping Catholics fulfill their calling to discipleship, strengthen their relationship with Christ, deepen their commitment to the Church, and contribute to its growth and vitality in the world, so it was indeed a deep pleasure to be able to have this conversation with Jason to help further a mission very similar to the Say Yes mission to inspire, encourage and accompany every person to SAY YES to holiness and become saints God created us to be while embracing purpose, peace and abundance in daily life. This is a conversation that really set my heart on fire with a desire to keep seeking and challenging myself to become a better disciple and leader, so I hope that you, too, are inspired and encouraged to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to truly foster innovation in your own life of discipleship as well as the vineyard of our Lord. Episode #72--"Exploring, Not Wandering”--Conversation with Karen and Curtis Hebert, Themelios Coaching
In this podcast, Christina sits down to speak with Karen and Curtis Herbert of Themelios Coaching. Themelios Coaching supports women who are entering the empty nest period of their life. Primarily, they focus upon helping you manage the transition, navigate your changing relationships, and find the exciting treasure that is awaiting you in the second half of your life. In fact, part of our conversation was about their proprietary exploration process they use to help you identify the unique contribution you bring to the world and to invest wisely in the next 20 years. Additionally, we spoke about Karen and Curtis' journey to where they are today, the process of discernment, diving into our true identity, and how we avoid "getting stuck" in the midst of monumental life change. Our conversation was one that truly inspired, encouraged and left me full of hope knowing that such well-trained, enthusiastic and faith-filled people are out there to help people through a period of life that can be extremely challenging, so I hope the conversation does the same for you as well! This podcast episode finds Christina spending time in conversation with Doug Tooke of ODB Films. Doug also is a recent OSV Innovation Talk speaker. His talk is entitled, The Perfection of Imperfection, and in a very emotional and entertaining way, Doug discusses the pitfalls of perfectionism and how we can learn to be “a candid polaroid in a photoshop world.” Doug is also the Vice President of Mission for both ODB Films and the Renovo Media Group. Episode 50--"Don't Cling To Unforgiveness"--Brian Caley, Say Yes to Holiness Podcast 1 on 1 Interview
Brian Caley of The Behold Project sat down with Christina to discuss many very topical issues along with the challenges occurring in our society now and how we can look to history to help us in our response. In a special way, we spoke about how forgiveness is the key to unlocking the doors of reconciliation, along with opening a path to possible understanding and love for one's neighbor. Brian founded The Behold Project as a way to help reduce the stigma of mental health issues and to raise awareness for Christians about those issues while seeking to create a space for those struggling with mental health challenges to share their personal experience with it. The site shares posts, memes, stories, blogs, poems, and information within an environment that promotes peace and joy. During this season of Lent, and in the midst of continuing contentiousness in our political arena, I can't think of a more timely discussion to help each of us reflect upon how we might go about reflecting upon the power of our words and attitudes, and how we need to seek the Real Presence of Christ to find any answers.
