SCAN Sparks is a new programme exploring how the cultural community can support grassroots activism and equalities-focused working. Later this year we'll launch our SCAN Sparks seed funding programme of micro-grants. In the meantime, we're thinking aloud with some people already making change.

Podcast host Sekai Machache works as the Scottish Contemporary Art Network (SCAN) Artist Policy Officer.

SCAN Sparks Podcast - Myriam Mouflih

SCAN Sparks is a new programme exploring how the cultural community can support grassroots activism and equalities-focused working. Later this year we'll launch our SCAN Sparks seed funding programme of micro-grants. In the meantime, we're thinking aloud with some people already making change. We are delighted to share this fifth SCAN Sparks podcasts of this summer in which Myriam Mouflih talks to our Artist Policy Officer Sekai Machache.

Myriam Mouflih is a freelance curator, film programmer and writer born in Casablanca, Morocco and based in Glasgow, UK. In this conversation she talks about her work at the Africa in Motion festival, her role as a former Transmission gallery committee member and the ethics and practice of supporting the “solar system” of artists, groups and networks around the gallery. Myriam is an associate programmer of the 2021 Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival. She also works with SCAN as our programme co-ordinator.

SCAN Sparks Podcast - Episode 1 - Ica Headlam - We are Here Scotland

SCAN Sparks is a new programme exploring how the cultural community can support grassroots activism and equalities-focused working. Later this year we'll launch our SCAN Sparks seed funding programme of micro-grants. In the meantime, we're thinking aloud with some people already making change. Here in the first of 5 SCAN Sparks podcasts to be released this spring and summer our Artist Policy Officer Sekai Machache speaks to Ica Headlam, the Aberdeen-based founder of We are Here Scotland, the community interest company sharing the work of BIPOC Creatives in Scotland. Ica shares what helps him thrive and where the challenges lie. We Are Here Scotland's Creator's fund has been set up to provide BIPOC artists and creatives with funding opportunities that will help them progress in their professional development. You can follow for more info and to support the fund.

We would like to thank Matthew Arthur Williams for creating the sound track.
