487: SCOTTY MULLEN - ASSIGNMENT WRITER
In this episode, Hilliard and Tristan J. Shuler from Road Map Writers sat down in a hilarious and engaging episode that is packed full of game. Our guest this week is little bro, Scotty Mullen, an award-winning writer known for his work with Syfy, Lionsgate, Lifetime, and Tubi. He is also an accomplished casting director and writing mentor. After getting his feet wet writing on the pop-culture juggernaut "Sharknado" franchise, Scotty's storytelling skills have evolved into writing everything from prestige horror scripts to true-life dramas. He believes in living life by following "The Other F Word" - if it's not fun, don't do it...
As of this date, Scotty has written 35 produced screenplays which have been filmed in 7 different countries. Scotty is known for being an enthusiastic collaborator with producers; almost all of his scripts have been written on assignment. Scotty is often hired for his script doctor skills and ability to save a production from the proverbial "developmental hell." Known for his fun humor and engaging spirit, Scotty shares his knowledge and guidance as a screenwriting mentor and audition coach. With over 15 years of on-the-ground Hollywood experience as a publicist, ad executive, casting director, and screenwriter, Scotty loves to help creators navigate smart and achievable ways to pursue their goals. Originally from small-town Kansas, Scotty went to college in Atlanta and now works from his home in Los Angeles.

486: "ZADOC ANGELL - ECHO LAKE ENTERTAINMENT"
In this episode, Hilliard and Rene Rodriguez-Lopez (Development Exec at BET+), sat down for a fun, inspiring conversation with Literary Manager ZADOC ANGELL who began his career as a TV Literary Agent at Paradigm, where he worked for seven years. Transitioning to Literary Management 2010, Zadoc joined forces with manager Dave Brown and grew a team of literary managers which they brought with them to Echo Lake in 2013. Angell's journey to Hollywood is not a conventional one. Growing up on a 400-acre dairy farm in rural upstate New York, Zadoc and his sister Amy were integral to his parents' family-run business. The son of a minister and a local politician, Angell pursued his academic and creative endeavors to Harvard University, where he graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor's Degree in Visual & Environmental Studies: Film. In addition to being a full-time manager, Angell has taught classes in pilot writing at UCLA. He lives in Redondo Beach with his husband Sean, a high school English teacher, and their twins Conor and Catherine.

Hilliard & Chris met on zoom with talented writer, director, and producer David Shen Miller - and talked about his work on his amazing animated short film “The Cocoon,” which just screened and won Best Animated Short at the Arizona Film Festival! The film also premiered at the Dallas International Film Festival and continued its run at New York Cinefest.
David’s films often explore themes of identity, paradox, and disillusionment, as seen in the “The Cocoon.” In the short film, he tells the story of a man who inadvertently creates more of a mess as he tries to clean his room. David wrote, directed, and produced this animated short film, which is his first animation directorial, in association with Confidential Creative. Featuring over 11,000 frames of hybrid hand-drawn and computer-generated animation, the film marks David’s directorial debut in the animation genre. Among various awards and accolades, the film is also currently nominated for a Remi Award from WorldFest Houston International Film Festival.
David’s work is both imaginative and thought-provoking, which he is excited to prove further in his upcoming live action short film, “Paint It Black,” an existential dark-comedy about two brothers who can’t stand each other on a fishing trip gone wrong.

In 2022, she co-founded #Justice4Caesar, the collective that freed Ornell Caesar from Rikers Island after he was unjustly incarcerated in 2021. She is also the founder of Emergent Works, a non-profit that teaches formerly incarcerated people to code and helps them start careers in tech.
