WELCOME BACK TO SCRIPT2SCREEN! In this week's review Alan takes on the latest from Pixar animation, and reviews Toy Story 4! Here is a snippet: " TOY STORY 4, sees Woody now being in a new room, with new toys and a new kid, and follows Woody as his purpose is tested and so is his loyalty not just to his kid, but to his friends, and most importantly to himself. Sure, on the surface this seems like a great story, but that is not the main issue. The argument here is not whether or not the film was a good film, because the answer to that would be a direct yes, it was great; the argument here is what did this installment add to the franchise that we hadn’t already seen, was a story that needed to be told? "

WELCOME BACK TO SCRIPT2SCREEN! In this week's review, Alan shares his views on JOHN WICK 3: PARABELLUM, and what he thinks about the franchise as a whole. Here is a sneak peak: " The John Wick franchise has been gaining traction and not only expanding its world but its fan base as well. Keanu Reeves' career has also seen a massive resurgence, so much so he's now in talks to star in a new project for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yet, with all the hype and excitement surround the world of Wick, or Wick-verse, the magic that the narrative and the franchise had within the first two films, seems to be slowly losing its focus and even more importantly losing its sense of purpose."

A Conversation with Muriel Aboulrouss from Zyara
WELCOME BACK TO SCRIPT2SCREEN! In this hour-long conversation, Alan and Muriel discuss all things relating to the art of filmmaking, her journey to where she is today, as well as the power of stories, and the rare art of having a visit with another human being.

WELCOME BACK TO SCRIPT2SCREEN! Alan and Had got to see GODZILLA II: KING OF THE MONSTERS this week and as usual Alan's back with a review and initial reactions to the film.  When the first teaser trailer for the long-awaited sequel to 2014’s GODZILLA dropped, fans were met with one of the most artistic trailers ever made for a film that screams commercial blockbuster. GODZILLA II: KING OF THE MONSTERS, being the third film in the Monarch Universe or Monster Universe or Zilla-verse series, rose from the waters and roared loudly, yet the film effect may have fallen flat.

WELCOME BACK TO SCRIPT2SCREEN! Alan takes on the Walt Disney live action remake of ALADDIN and his review and reaction to it might completely surprise you! From the blue Will Smith, to what seemed to be a hodge-podge of cultures within the production design exposed in the teaser trailers, and a cover of A WHOLE NEW WORLD that brought out the cringe, Walt Disney’s live action remake of their Oscar nominated ALADDIN had all the cards stacked against it - so what were Alan's thoughts?  Listen and find out! WELCOME BACK TO SCRIPT2SCREEN! After all the divisiveness online, Alan took the liberty to react and review the penultimate episode of GAME OF THRONES! "This is it. The end is here. Game of Thrones has one final punch to throw before the lights dim on this global phenomenon that has captivated audiences for what seems to be a decade. This story, this myth, this legendary tale of power, family, forgiveness, redemption, and home has only one final chapter to offer us, and my heart breaks."

With only two episodes left before the series that has captured audiences across the globe ends and leaves us seeking the next best series, many have started to question whether the seven-season build up to the final six episodes has been worth it.  But how will it end? Well, with all these pieces moving in different directions there are many ways that the series could end, and with the net being dark and full of theories, the possibilities are endless. Utilizing clues given to us from the show alone, I break-down what I think is the finale that Weiss and Benioff could be leading us to.  Music: Winter is Here - Ramin Djawadi, Game of Thrones Season 7 Winterfell - Ramin Djawadi, Game of Thrones Season 2 Needle - Ramin Djawadi, Game of Thrones Season 6 Light of the Seven - Ramin Djawadi, Game of Thrones Season 6 Truth - Ramin Djawadi, Game of Thrones Season 7 Maester - Ramin Djawadi, Game of Thrones Season 6 Photo by Anthony DELANOIX on Unsplash

Most importantly, they all talk about why they did, do, and always will love Game of Thrones!
May 5, 2019
Though many have already criticized and downright hated on the episode with some claiming it was too dark, while others nitpicking on the narrative arcs, and how unsatisfying the conclusion was, this episode not only answers many questions, but pays off threads long set up within earlier seasons of the series. This battle is one of many battles in a war that has been going on for seven seasons, this is its conclusion, and it was the most cathartic emotional experience from a television series, one even stronger than a particular endgame.

Every single kid dreams about becoming a superhero, and this dream finally comes true as the audience is able to live that experience vicariously via DC’s latest hero film release, SHAZAM! DC films haven’t had the greatest luck, but with AQUAMAN being a surprise hit at the box office late last year, it seemed there was a light at the end of the tunnel.  The DC comic adaptation that audiences have long been waiting for finally here, and all they have to do to watch it, is say the magic word: SHAZAM!

Dumbo - Pointlessly expands the plot, losing the magic of the original
Disney’s live-action formula may be bringing in the cash, but unlike the original animated masterpieces, it won’t be leaving behind a magical legacy that will remain with future generations. The massive flaw within the studio’s rehash of the archive, is that the reimagining of these iconographical films, is not always living up to the charm and power of the original tale.

Captain Marvel - Marvel’s first female superhero doesn’t soar high enough to leave a mark
With all the hype that’s surrounding Marvel’s first female super hero, it’s truly a shame that any form of proper criticism would be interpreted as sexist, or narrow-minded, especially since this is surely not constructive in any form nor would it lead to fruitful conversations regarding the industry. With that in mind, CAPTAIN MARVEL doesn’t soar high enough to leave a memorable mark within audiences, though the narrative it presents will surely mark a change in the MCU.

In Focus: Man of Steel - Human, Hero, Hope
When MAN OF STEEL first premiered, it’s safe to say it wasn’t met with a lot of positive feedback from fans . With the recent DC announcements of rebranding, and taking the franchise in a possible new direction, I decided to give these films a second chance. After finishing the MAN OF STEEL re-watch, here is my verdict: Zack Snyder’s film is the most accurate depiction of the hero that audiences have ever seen — a Superman that is struggling with his identity.

STAN & OLLIE – An Unconventional Biopic with a Whole Lot of Heart
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are widely regarded as the greatest comedy partnership in movie history: making over 107 films, and defining the notion of the double act with infectious chemistry and hilarious routines that seemed effortless but were honed down to the finest detail. It’s really quite puzzling why it took Hollywood so long to honor the legendary duo, but STAN & OLLIE was definitely worth the wait.

VS. - A film that crushes and lands its punches!
At its surface this film might seem like the run of the mill, 8-Mile wannabe merged with a little bit of Step-Up, but contrary to this point of view, VS. shines on its own, dishing out a solid narrative with an engaging protagonist, and packs quite the punch with its overarching theme. In Focus: Kylo Ren, Son of Darkness
For my first Character Study, I have chosen the character of Kylo Ren, from the Star Wars sequel trilogy. With the clock to the final film already counting down – I wanted to lay out a theory and an analysis about Darth Vader’s grandson, one that states that he, and not Rey, could be essentially the sequel trilogy’s true protagonist – and if you watch the sequel trilogy with that perspective – it can actually give you a much better viewing experience.
