5.29: Rely on the Holy Spirit When in Trouble: It's Better than Booze
Back in 2008, I was  in a job that I loved, until I didn’t anymore. My great boss, that I got  along with so well, left and I inherited a micromanager as a  supervisor. Everyday was stressful to say the least. I would get home  and the first thing I did was grab a beer. One day, the micromanager had  been out of the office. At home, as I was microwaving my dinner, I  realized that I didn’t have an urge to have a beer. Then I also realized  that Ms. Micromanager had not been in the office all day and it was so  peaceful. Eventually, they eliminated my position and I found myself unemployed. At that point, I could have very easily turned to booze to numb the  pain and de-stress. However, booze costs money and that was something  that I had very little of, as unemployment checks hadn’t kicked in yet.  So where do I turn? Fortunately, I was a part of a wonderful church family at First Christian Church of Phoenix. Their support and prayers helped me get through 2 years of unemployment, along with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is Better than Booze.... Continue reading in my blog where you can view a special music video selected just for you... 5.25: Why Care when You Have All You Need?
The same earthquakes that hit Philadelphia in 17 and 23 AD also affected  Laodicea. Laodicea was also a prosperous city. It was the banking  center of the area. They even had a well-sought-after eye balm that  cured many problems of the eyes. However, they had a water problem -- or  lack thereof. There was no water source nearby so water was piped in  from a fairly distant source. By the time it reached the city, it was  lukewarm. It also was heavy with minerals -- kind of like the water in  Phoenix. So, if it wasn't filtered, it tasted terrible -- hence, people  spit it out... Click on over to my blog to watch the video on the history of Laodicea as well as to see the famous picture of Jesus knocking on the door and a special praise video at the end. Philadelphia — the City of Brotherly Love — not the one in Pennsylvania —  but the one in Asia Minor, in 95 AD, that Jesus wrote to in chapter 3  of the Book of Revelation. 5.23: When You Least Expect It: Like a Thief in the Night
The city of Sardis, which is our next stop in our journey through  Revelation, has an interesting history. The video below explains it.  However, it reminded me of my first major hurricane experience in Miami  -- Hurricane Andrew in 1992. I had lived through 3 other minor  hurricanes in NY and Puerto Rico, but this one was bad. Small, compact,  but packing a 150 MPH punch. Though with hurricanes, you get a fair  amount of warning, not like with tornadoes or earthquakes, the greater  Miami area had grown complacent. They hadn't had a major storm in over  20 years. Most of the residents there have never experienced a hurricane.... Click on over to my blog to watch a video on the history of Sardis as well as a special song... 5.20: Do You Love the church more than Jesus?
Ephesus is the first church to be called out in Jesus’ letters to the  7 churches in the Book of Revelation. Why Ephesus? It was the main  church in the area — what is now Turkey — and the Apostle John was the  bishop or overseer of the 7 churches and based in Ephesus. Besides  Ephesus, the 7 churches included Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis,  Philadelphia, and Laodicea. Sadly, because of the Islamic takeover of  that area in the 7th and 8th centuries, all that’s left are ruins.  Ephesus is the only one of the 7 churches that got a letter from the  Apostle Paul. The year was 95 AD, John was about 80 years old and the only living apostle.... Continue reading in my blog where you can watch some special videos... 5.18: What is Accountability? Who are You Accountable to?
To whom are you accountable? If you own a business, you are  accountable to your customers to provide the product or service that  they paid for in a reasonable amount of time. And if you have employees,  you are responsible for paying them the wages agreed upon when hired.  They are accountable to you to do the work you told them to do. If you are married, you are accountable to your spouse. At least you  should be. We are all accountable to the IRS if we earn income to report  it and pay what is due. A little kid is accountable to his parents. I’m  sure you remember a time when you were caught doing something wrong.  Did you blame it on someone else? Since I was an only child, I blamed it  on the dog. There are many more examples of accountability. However, the most important one is to whom are you accountable for your sins. If you lied to your spouse and they found out, you’re accountable to apologize and make up for it. You are also accountable to God.... Pride. It's one of the 7 Deadly Sins.  God doesn't like pride. Prideful people think they can do it all by  themselves and that they don't need God. 5.11: The Riches of God's Free Gift of Grace
One thing the Catholic Church gets wrong, is teaching that you have to  work your way into Heaven. According to them, you buy "grace points"  when you follow their rules, rituals and regulations. 5.10: Is Purgatory Hell? Is it Even in the Bible?
Growing up Catholic,  I was led to believe that if you didn't go to confession each week or  even go to mass on Sundays, you'd go to hell. But if you were good, and  you observed all the rules and rituals of the Catholic Church, then  you'd go to Heaven -- eventually. You first needed to spend some time in  Purgatory. How do you get out of Purgatory? You supposedly rack up  "grace points" by going to confession, mass, saying your "Our Fathers"  and "Hail Marys", and relatives can pray and even buy you out of  Purgatory with Indulgences. 5.9: Churches Should Get Back to Basic Praising and Worshiping of God
In researching the early Christian church for my novel,  my goal was to feel like I was sitting in the midst of a church  meeting. To know what it was like for a Roman girl, raised to believe  that there was a god for everything and how she can come to understand  that there is only One True God and He sent His only Son to earth to die  for us so that we can live forever in paradise with Him.... 5.8: How to get the Most out of Reading the Bible
When I decided that I wanted to get closer to God after being a prodigal for many years, I dusted off my family's BIG Bible. You know that one  that sits either on the mantle or as in our house, on a book shelf so it  would look good if the priest or pastor came to visit. Nobody actually  picked it up and read it. 5.6: Working Together for the Praise and Glory of God
In the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Roman church, he writes to a church  that’s very mixed in cultures — Jews and Gentiles. He’s been explaining  that they were now all one family — Christians — brought together by belief in the salvation of Jesus Christ. Here in chapter 15, he lays it out for us….. 5.5: Weak Faith and Beliefs: God's No Judgement Zone Stops Here
It's not for me to judge you or your beliefs. God will judge you in His time. That's the crux of Romans 14. Back in the first  century, the Jews tried to keep what we know today as kosher foods. The  Gentiles didn't care. They ate everything. God showed Peter in Acts 10  that all food is OK to eat... Continue reading in my blog... 5.3: How to Become a Living Sacrifice to God
Today as I prepared for my blog and podcast on Romans chapter 12, in my  personal Bible study I also read Isaiah chapter 59. That just happened  to be the chapter I was on as I go through the Old Testament. It amazes  me how God's Word all fits together. From the Old Testament prophets to  the Gospel writers and then the New Testament letters, they tell us -- so clearly -- how we are to live. It's up to us to read, understand and obey. So, I start with Isaiah 59... Read along with my blog.... If you want the assurance of a 1-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven, this is what you have to do… Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. 5.2: God's Grace is Free and Undeserved: Do You Have a Hard Heart?
When we lived in upstate New York, my mom had a rose garden on the side of the house. Mom liked to experiment with grafting. She'd take a branch from say a white rose bush and graft it into the stem of say a red one. Did we get pink roses? Or were they red with white lines? I don't remember. All I know is she had fun doing it and waiting to see the results. Also, every so often, we'd have a crazy spring and we'd get a late frost. It would burn some of the rose branches. Mom would have to prune them and when the weather got warmer, the whole bush would be more robust. Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, explains in Romans 11 that the Jews who don't believe are not totally shut out, but the Gentiles are grafted in, adopted into the family of God. 4.30: Why don't most Jews Believe that Jesus is the Messiah?
Today in Romans chapter 9, the Apostle Paul answers this question. After I was born again — 14 years ago — and started studying the Bible in a different light (with the Holy Spirit as a guide), in one of my groups, we asked, “Why don’t most Jews  believe that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah?” I couldn’t get it. We talked  about it and we couldn’t figure it out. Last year, I attended the funeral of a colleague who happened to be  Reformed Jewish. After the ceremony — which included the reading of  several familiar Psalms — that question was hanging heavy in my heart. About the same time, I had my DNA test done through Ancestry.com and I found out that I have 1% Sephardic Jewish DNA! I  have the same DNA as Abraham and Jesus! Even before I was born again! I  started seeing Jews and Israelites very differently. They were my kin.  Literally. Trying to understand why the Jews didn’t recognize Jesus as  their Messiah, the Spirit finally led me to the right New Testament  scriptures that answered my question. It was an ah-ha moment for me.  Read along with my blog.... Soli Deo Gloria -- to God Alone be the Glory! Subscribe and share!

4.29: How to Know if You Have the Assurance of Salvation
Are you absolutely sure that you have your 1-way, non-stop ticket to  Heaven so when you die, you'll instantly be with Jesus? Assurance --  that's what the Apostle Paul explains in Romans chapter 8. This is one  of the most quoted Bible chapters. I'm going to go through it slowly and at the end there's a nice video over on my blog -- part of a series -- from one of the  Bible devotionals in the Bible app. Go to my blog..... 4.28: Are You Trying to do the Right Thing the Wrong Way?
The street where we lived in Puerto Rico was a one-way street. Many a time I'd watch as a car, going in the wrong direction barely avoided a head-on collision. Did the driver not see the sign? Was the person so lost that they weren't paying attention? I'm sure it's happened to you. You attempt to live your life with all good intentions but the sinful, evil nature that is within all of us, wins in the end and you fall into temptation. Hey, remember the popular phrase, "The devil made me do it,"? Yeah. In Romans 7, Paul tells us that no matter how much we try on our own, living under the law -- trying to be a good person -- without the Grace of God, is an exercise in futility. 4.27: Are You a Slave to Guilt or to God's Righteousness?
Romans 6 is short, but it packs a mighty punch. If you believe that  Jesus died taking away your sins on the cross, are you still sinning  because you can get grace points when you ask  for forgiveness? That's being a salve to guilt. The Apostle Paul  explains that we need to stop being salves to sin and guilt and become  slaves of God's righteousness. Read along with my blog..... 4.26: Rejoice When We Run into Problems. What?!
In our trek through Paul's Letter to the Romans, in the first 4  chapters, Paul's been drilling into us that we need to be made right  with God through faith and faith alone. In  chapter 5, he starts with the word "therefore". Whenever we see this in  the Bible, we need to ask, "what is it there for?" In this case, Paul is  following up the first 4 chapters with some uplifting passages. Romans 5  is very special to me, personally. God gave me these verses at a very  tough time in my life. 4.23: You Can't Avoid God's Judgement: Are you a Hypocrite?
On Instagram yesterday an ad popped up in my stories feed for Catholic Church Victims Fund. It probably came up on my feed because I use the #Catholics a lot. On their website, they have a questionnaire asking if you've been a victim of inappropriate touching "by anyone of authority from the Catholic church". If you have, you may qualify for a "significant cash settlement". Doing a little more digging, I found, Zalkin.com -- a law firm specializing in seeking justice for abuse victims. Now, I don't want to purposefully do any Catholic bashing because, I think they're doing a good job on their own in giving Catholic priests a bad name. These "Catholics" make it difficult to live down the "Hypocrite" name given to Christians. I know that there are other Christian leaders who have been caught in sin. Sin isn't exclusive for Catholics. In Chapter 1 of Romans, Paul told us what it means to live righteously. Here in Chapter 2, he uncovers dirty little secrets.... Continue reading in my blog.... 4.22: What is Righteousness? Are You Living Righteously?
Through the Lenten season, I focused on the Gospels -- the Good News -- of Jesus Christ following His footsteps through Holy Week, then His ascension. I then followed His disciples as they dealt with His death and what they did After the Resurrection.  I now start a series through the Book of Romans. It's the first of the  letters from Paul to the various churches around the Mediterranean in  the New Testament right after the Book of Acts.  Scholars think that Paul wrote this later in his ministry. I think  early church leaders put the Letter to the Romans first after Acts  because is so clearly explains what salvation is -- the Good News of  Jesus Christ.... 4.17: After the Resurrection: Jesus, the God of Second Chances
Peter was a character. 3.23: April Fools Day 2020: No Time to be Foolish!
April 1, 2020 will not be your usual fun-loving April Fools Day. For me it brings back memories for on April 1, 2018, Easter Sunday, my mom fell in her home in Puerto Rico and broke her hip. She died last Christmas Day after being bedridden in a nursing home for a year and a half.  April Fools Day is also Atheists Day. Why?  Psalm 14:1 reads, 'Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.”' Romans 1:20-32 goes into more detail on this thought.  This is not a time to be foolish. Read the Book of Proverbs. James 1:5-8 tells us what we need to do to get wisdom.  Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit.  Pray this prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. 3.19: Bible Prophecy: Is this the End of the World?
Today the cases of coronavirus in the US surpassed 100,000 -- more than any other country. The Meapi Volcano in Indonesia erupted sending a 5-kilometer pillar of ash into the air. Earthquake "clusters" have been shaking Puerto Rico daily since 12/28 and now appear to be shaking western Texas and the SE corner of the Great Salt Lake in Utah.  Is this the end of the world? Today I read from an article by Dr. Jim Denison in The Denison Forum which pretty much explains what's going on and what we need to do.  To invite Jesus into your heart, pray this prayer:  “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Please forgive me. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. 3.16: The #COVID19 #CoronaVirusCrisis: Coming Attractions in the #EndTimes
Bible prophecy is fascinating! Who isn't curious? Who wouldn't want to know what the future holds? What's nice about the Bible is that it holds a lot of prophecies -- many have come true and I've spoken about them in previous podcasts on Psalm 22, 118 and Isaiah 53. What's even more fascinating is the prophecies of the future -- our future.  You look at the world today and you wonder, "What's going on?" Well, I have good news! The world isn't ending tomorrow. However, we are seeing the signs of the end times. Jesus spoke of them. He warned us.  Are you listening?  Jesus said, “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” ~ ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬ - this is repeated 14 times in scripture. Kind of gives the idea that God wants us to pay attention.  Bible Verses in this Episode:  John 14:2-7 John 16:33 Luke 21:9-11 Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. 3.14: The In-Depth Meaning of Jesus' Suffering on the Cross
Growing up Catholic, I had to memorize and recite the Apostles Creed regularly. There's the "Good Friday" part that says, "He was tried under Pontius Pilot, suffered, died and was buried. Sounds rather simple, right? But it's not. Here's an in-depth look at Jesus' suffering on the cross when he bore all of our sins, past, present and future, once and for all so that we could have true salvation and a 1-way, non-stop ticket to heaven.  Quote from Lenten Bible Study plan in the Bible app: "Journeying with Jesus" by Susan Narjala.  Bible Verses in this episode:  Matthew 27:46 Psalm 22:1 If Purgatory exists, then Jesus suffered and sacrificed His life for nothing.  Believe. 3.13: The Great Commandment: Love God and Love Your Neighbor
Today, the coronavirus pandemic crisis has taken over the news and social media. This morning on Twitter, #LoveThyNeighbor was trending. That's part of the "Great Commandment" that Jesus gave us.  In Matthew 22:36, Jesus was asked, "Which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus responded, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40 How did Jesus get 2 commandments out of the original 10?  Read Exodus 20:1-21 Believe. 3.11: More Jewish Jesus Prophecies from the Old Testament
Today we look at more Old Testament prophecies that tell of Jesus' crucifixion, death and burial. From Moses, to prophets, to psalms, Jesus is predicted all through the Old Testament.  He was the Passover Lamb. Read Exodus 12 - the story of the first Passover.  Why don't today's Jews accept Jesus as their Messiah when it's so clearly explained in the Old Testament?  Bible Verses in this Episode:  Zechariah 12:10 Psalms 34:20 Numbers 9:12 Psalm 69:21 Psalm 31:5 Deuteronomy 21:23 2 Corinthians 3:7-18 Ask Jesus to lift the veil from your eyes and open your heart to accept Him as your Savior and Messiah.  “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. 3.10: How Isaiah 53 Foretells the Pain of Jesus' Death
Martin Luther said, "If you want to understand the Christian message, you must start with the wounds of Christ." Isaiah 53 was written 700 years before Jesus' crucifixion, yet it describes perfectly how Jesus sacrificed His life to take away our sins once and for all. Quoted from Sandy Adams lesson on Isaiah 53 in Through The Word - Bible study app.  I recommend the Bible app and listening to several versions of Isaiah 53 to really allow the scripture to get into your heart.  Believe. 3.9: How Psalm 22 Details the Pain of Jesus' Death
As we read through the Gospels, we enjoy reading Jesus' parables, learning about his miracles like raising Lazarus from the dead and healing many people. We sit with them during the Last Supper, but then comes Judas' betrayal, and Jesus is arrested, tried, mocked, whipped, tortured and finally crucified. His suffering was detailed in Psalm 22 written by King David centuries before Jesus was even born.  In this episode, I break down Psalm 22 and how it can only be talking about Jesus. “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Please forgive me. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. I will follow you for the rest of my life. Thank You for saving me. Amen.” Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit. Soli Deo Gloria -- to God Alone be the Glory Subscribe & share!

3.8: Jesus is the Cornerstone: Are You Standing on it or Rejecting it?
Continuing our walk with Jesus through Lent, I'm going to be highlighting Jesus in the Jewish prophecies. We find Jesus in all of Scripture -- all of the Bible -- from Genesis to Revelation. Today we look at the song that Jesus and the disciples probably sang as they walked from the Passover meal to the Mount of Olives.  In the Old Testament, He is Predicted.  In the Gospels, He is Revealed. In the Book of Acts, He is Preached. In the Epistles, He is Explained. In Revelation, He is Expected.  Bible verses in this Episode:  Matthew 26:30 Psalm 118 Luke 20:9-19 Matthew 21:42 Mark 12:10 Acts 4:11 “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. Soli Deo Gloria -- to God Alone be the Glory

3.7: The Power of Praying in Jesus' Name
President Trump declared today, March 15, 2020, as a National Day of Prayer. In today's episode, I read from the March 15th devotional, "Praying in Jesus' Name" from "Into His Presence" by Dr. Charles Stanley.  Bible Verses in this Episode:  John 14:12-14 John 15:13-16 Pray this prayer to invite Jesus into your heart:  “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. 3.6: No Time to Waste! Come Back to God Right Now!
I've been down with a cold -- no fever -- and that silenced me for a while, but I'm back! With this whole coronavirus pandemic crisis, in this episode, we're looking at 2 Chronicles 7:13-22 as God spoke to the the people of Israel as they were returning to their homeland to rebuild the temple and the city of Jerusalem. I also quote Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:11-21 where Paul tells the people to "Come back to God!" and that's exactly what we have to do. Let's honor the Lord by humbling ourselves during this National Day of Prayer for our country.  Soli Deo Gloria - to God Alone be the Glory

3.5: How to Talk to God by Praying
When was the last time you had a conversation with God? Was it when you were a kid, kneeling beside your bed at night saying, “Now I lay me down to sleep…?” Or maybe mindlessly rattling off 10 Hail Marys and 5 Our Fathers as your penance after confession? Maybe it was the last time something went wrong and you yelled up to sky, “Why me, Lord, why me!” In this episode I explain how easy it is to pray and talk to God any time and any place.  Bible Verses in this Episode:  Matthew 6:7-13 Philippians 4:6-7 John 14:13-14 Soli Deo Gloria -- to God Alone be the Glory! 3.4: Lent is a Time to Look Inside Yourself and Think Like Jesus
Lent is a time of personal reflection. Are you striving to be  Christ-like? Are you striving to be Christ-like 100% of the time, or  only when people are watching? If Jesus was sitting next to you watching TV, at the movies, or even reading a book--would He approve? I've stopped watching these TV shows listen to find out why... Which of Jesus' miracles is the most impactful to you? For me, it's when Jesus rose Lazarus from the dead. Listen to this wonderful story from the Gospel of John, chapter 11 as we continue our journey through Lent.  Jesus said, “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” ~ ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Jesus also said, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ~ ‭‭John‬ ‭8:32‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Soli Deo Gloria -- to God Alone be the Glory!

3.2: Are you Denying Jesus' Sacrifice Like Peter Did?
Peter is an interesting fellow. He went from being a fisherman, to the first disciple who sees Jesus as the Messiah, to saying he won't betray Jesus. Then he denied him 3 times and finally preached about eternal life only through Jesus.  Are you denying Jesus' salvation when you depend on a priest for absolution?  Bible Verses in this Episode:  Mark 8:27-29 Matthew 26:31-35 Matthew 26:69-75 Acts 2:38 You must  Believe that Jesus died taking all your sins away. 3.1: Holy Communion: Thanking Jesus for the Gift of His Grace
5th Day of Lent: The Last Supper - that comes during Holy Week on Holy Thursday, but it's something most churches celebrate weekly -- at least monthly. Some call it "Breaking Bread" others "Holy Communion". Growing up Catholic, I knew it at the "Eucharist" -- which actually means "thanksgiving". When we take part in communion, we thank Jesus for His salvation.  Bible Verses in this Episode:  Matthew 26:26-30 Acts 2:46-47 1 Corinthians 11:23-32 I quote again from the Bible App Lenten Devotional "Journeying Through Lent" by Susan Narjala.  Prayer:  Lord Jesus, I sometimes get immune to the immensity of your grace. When I stop to ponder that Last Supper, I’m struck by the fact that you gave thanks for the bread and wine that represented your body and your blood. Thank you for your sacrifice. It’s something I’ll never be able to fully grasp but something that I receive with a heart of thanksgiving. Amen  Prayer to invite Jesus into your life:  “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Please forgive me. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. I will follow you for the rest of my life. Thank You for saving me. Amen.” Soli Deo Gloria -- To God Alone be the Glory! How does your church celebrate Holy Communion? 2.29: What is the History of Lent? Who started it?
Why don't all Christian churches observe Lent? Who started Lent, anyway? In this episode, I uncover the history of Lent from the 3rd and 4th centuries to today and we, as Christians, should personally use these 40 days, before Resurrection Sunday, for spiritual renewal.  Special thanks to Dr. Jim Denison of the Denison Forum for his insightful article: "Why is Lent Relevant for Evangelicals?" and Susan Narjala for the great Bible app Lenten Devotional that we're following.  Today's Bible Verse: Matthew 26:17-19 Prayer: "Father God, Sometimes it’s so easy to fall back on routine and ritual when it comes to Lent. We unthinkingly give up one thing or another, assuaging our guilt to quickly don a slightly self-righteous mantle. I pray for a renewed vision this Lent. Help me to come to you in true humility and allow you to prune me as you will. Amen." Susan Narjala in "Journeying through Lent" Please subscribe and share! 2.28: What did You Give up for Lent? Is Satan Tempting You?
Lent is the season of preparation for Holy Week and eventually Good Friday then Easter. What did you give up for Lent? How's it going? Is Satan tempting you?  Bible Verse in this Episode: Matthew 4:1-11 Lenten prayer from the Bible app devotional by Susan Narjala:  "Father God, Sometimes it’s so easy to fall back on routine and ritual when it comes to Lent. We unthinkingly give up one thing or another, assuaging our guilt to quickly don a slightly self-righteous mantle. I pray for a renewed vision this Lent. Help me to come to you in true humility and allow you to prune me as you will. Amen." The Steps to Jesus' true salvation: Believe that Jesus died for your sins.  Repent of your sins and stop sinning. Be baptized and wash away your sins. Receive the Holy Spirit in your heart.  Pray this prayer for salvation:  “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. 2.26: The Season of Lent: Following Jesus to the Cross
Today is Ash Wednesday, 2020 and the start of the Season of Lent for Catholics and Christians. Will you be fasting or giving something up for Lent? In the Bible App, there's a Lenten Devotional from Susan Narjala called, "Journeying with Jesus".  Here's a prayer from the devotional. (I forgot to mention it in the podcast) "Heavenly Father, Help me to worship in a way that truly takes all of me. Help me love you with not just my words but with all my soul, my mind, my strength and my heart. Let me never be content with lukewarm worship, but let me burn with the flame of faith set aglow by a deep reverence for you. Amen." Bible Verses in this Episode:  Psalm 51 Matthew 26:6-13 The David and Bathsheba story is found in 2 Samuel 11.  Pray this prayer to invite Jesus into your heart:  “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. 2.25: The Wedding Feast: A Benefit of the Salvation of Jesus
In yesterday's episode, I read that Jesus is preparing a place for us in His Father's House. Jesus is coming back for us. We don't know when, but in Matthew 24, Jesus talks about the signs and that they are the start of the birth pains. If you look around the world today, you have to admit that the birth pains are getting stronger and more frequent. It's going to get a lot worse before Jesus comes back.  But when Jesus does come back, there will be a great wedding feast. Jesus is the bridegroom and the church of true believers is the bride. Will you be let into the wedding feast?  Bible Verses in this Episode:  Revelation 19:1-10 Matthew 7:21-23 Matthew 22:1-14 Matthew 25:1-13 To make sure you're invited to the feast, pray this prayer and invite Jesus into your heart right now:  “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. 2.23: No Worries: A Benefit of the Salvation of Jesus
We all have stress. The problem is that the bad stress hormone, cortisol, really does a number on our bodies. A couple of years ago, I was doing research for a client who was opening a Rage Room in Tempe, and I wrote a couple of articles on stress. One popular one was "How To Increase the Serotonin In Your Brain [Infographic]".  Jesus talked a lot about not worrying. One of the benefits of Jesus' true salvation is His ability to take our cares and worries from on our shoulders onto His. Jesus never said that if we follow Him, we'd live a stress-free and trouble-free life. However, He also gave us instructions on how to deal with the troubles, stress and worries.  Bible Verses in this Episode:  John 16:28-33 Matthew 6:24-34 Philippians 4:4-9 1 Peter 5:7 To receive the Holy Spirit and its power, pray this prayer.... “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. 2.22: Fear Not! A Benefit of the Salvation of Jesus
What are you afraid of? That's a loaded question! Most people are afraid of death. But, that's the wonderful thing about Jesus' true salvation -- we don't have to fear death. We'll be with Jesus as soon as we breathe our last breath here on earth, that is, if you are born-again. In this episode I look at different places in the Bible where God tells the people he loves (you included) to not be afraid.  Bible Verses in this Episode:  Joshua 1:9 2 Timothy 1:7 Mark 4:35-41 Matthew 14:22-33 1 John 4:18 Romans 8:38 Pray this prayer to receive Jesus' salvation:  “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. One of the benefits for me, as a single woman with no kids, is my church family. 2.20: Truth and Discernment: A Benefit of the Salvation of Jesus
What is truth? God is truth. And the word "truth" is found 193 times in the New Testament (NLT). With so much fake news going around and both Jesus and John warned the followers about false teachers and prophets that would be coming around spreading lies, how do you know what's the truth or what's a lie? That, my friends, is one of the benefits of the Holy Spirit.... Bible Verses in this Episode:  John 3:3 John 4:23-26 John 14:6 John 14:16-18 John 15:26 John 16:12-14 John 8:32 Pray this prayer to receive the Holy Spirit right now.... “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. 2.19: Standing on Solid Ground: A Benefit of the Salvation of Jesus
Earthquakes and hurricanes. I've lived through both. Well, tremors in Puerto Rico in the 80s. Imagine having the ground underneath you -- which you think is solid -- start shaking.  In this episode, as I continue the benefits of Jesus' true Salvation, I talk about Jesus being a solid rock to stand on and what you need to have that assurance... Bible Verses in this Episode:  Matthew 7:24-27 Luke 6:47-49 Psalm 40:1-5 Psalm 26:9-12 Psalm 18:31 Jesus said, “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” ~ ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬ - this is repeated 19 times in the New Testament. However, Jesus tells us exactly what we have to do to ask for help when we need it.  Bible Verses in this Episode:  Hebrews 4:12-16 John 16:33 Matthew 7:7-8 John 14:13-14 John 16:23-24 Philippians 4:6-7 1 Peter 5:6-7 Believe, repent and be baptized!  Check out my blog.... 2.16: A New Sense of Purpose: A Benefit of the Salvation of Jesus
Back in the 60s and 70s people were going out to "find themselves", which was going in the wrong direction. You need to find your purpose in Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit seeking God's will in your life.  There's an Ethiopian church that meets at one of my church's houses. They trace their beliefs to 2 people in the Bible. Those 2 people had a purpose.  What's yours? Bible Verse in this Episode: Acts 8:26-39 If you want to find your purpose in life, first become a born-again believer by praying this prayer... “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. 2.15: A Light in the Darkness: A Benefit of the Salvation of Jesus
I remember in November of 1965, when I was 10 years old the great blackout of the Northeast. It affected not just New York, where we lived, but several other northeastern states as well as Ontario, Canada. Living through 13 hours of darkness, one gets to appreciate the light of a simple flashlight or candle.  When we accept Jesus into our heart and lives, we get another wonderful benefit -- His Light! In today's world that's covered in darkness, the light of God that is freely given to us by His Grace and Mercy is a welcome sight.  Bible Verses in this Episode:  John 1:1-9 Isaiah 9:1-2 Matthew 5:13-16 Luke 11:33-36 Ephesians 5:1-14 You can receive this light right now by praying this simple prayer.... “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. God is omnipotent -- all-powerful--almighty. We can tap into His power when we accept Jesus as our savior, repent of our sins, acknowledge Jesus are our savior and get baptized.  The word "power" appears over 1000 times in the New Testament (NLT). What does this power feel like? How can you get this power and strength? Bible Verses in this Episode:  2 Corinthians 4:7 2 Timothy 1:7 Isaiah 40:29 Psalm 40:1-10 To get Jesus' true salvation, pray this prayer:  “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. 2.12: The Fruits of the Spirit: A Benefit of the Salvation of Jesus
Yesterday I talked about the Spiritual Gifts that we receive when we accept Jesus' true salvation and the Holy Spirit comes to live in our hearts. What are they? Listen to today's episode with readings from the letter of Paul to the Galatians.  If you're ready to accept Jesus as your Savior, pray this prayer.... “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. One of the benefits of the salvation of Jesus Christ -- besides your one-way, non-stop ticket to heaven -- is spiritual gifts. 2.10: A Benefit of the Salvation of Jesus: The Holy Spirit
Growing up Catholic, I knew the Holy Spirit (or Ghost) as part of the Trinity. However, not having Jesus' true Salvation, I was missing the benefits of having the Holy Spirit in me -- in my heart.  Jesus said in John 14:26 (AMP): “But when the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of Truth who comes from the Father, He will testify and bear witness about Me." Once I was baptized, it still took me a while to fully grasp all the benefits of the Holy Spirit living in me.  Bible Verses in this Episode:  John 14:19-20 John 14:26 NLT & AMP John 15:26  John 16:5-15 1 Thessalonians 5:19 Revelation 3:20-22 Jesus is knocking. Won't you let him into your heart? Just pray this prayer wholeheartedly.  “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. But that's not the hope I'm talking about.  Are you walking around with a sense of hopelessness?  Listen to this and you'll learn about the confident hope that only God, through Jesus can give you as a benefit of His Salvation.  Bible Verses in this Episode:  Hebrews 11:1 Jeremiah 29:11-13 Romans 5:1-5 Romans 4:18-25 Romans 8:20-21 Colossians 1:3-6 Ephesians 1:18 “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. Don't Rely on a 'Hail Mary' Play for Last Minute Salvation
Today, Superbowl Sunday, I talk about the "Hail Mary" pass often used in football and other circumstances as a last ditch effort. In football, however, it's seldom successful.  It comes from the "Hail Mary" prayer from Catholicism. I dissect the prayer along with playing an excerpt from Through the Word on John 2 - the Wedding in Cana -- featuring Pastor Sandy Adams, Senior Pastor at Calvary Chapel Stone Mountain in Atlanta, GA. sandyadams.org.  Bible Verses in this episode:  Acts 4:12 Hebrews 7:24-25 John 2:1-11 Jesus said, “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” ~ ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬ - this is repeated 14 times in scripture. Kind of gives the idea that God wants us to pay attention.  Jesus also said, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ~ ‭‭John‬ ‭8:32‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Soli Deo Gloria -- To God Alone be the Glory!

1.31: The Birth Pains of the Last Days are Getting Stronger
What in the world is going on? We are living in the last days.  The worst swarm of locust attacking East Africa. Over 1600 earthquakes have struck the SW portion of the little island of Puerto Rico since Dec. 28, 2019.  The coronavirus has been declared a worldwide epidemic and health risk by the WHO.  Gaza is bombing Israel and tensions in Iran and Iraq are brewing.  Volcanoes are erupting in Mexico, Japan, The Philippines, Italy and Hawaii. Earthquakes in Turkey, off the shore of Jamaica (that was felt in Miami), the South Pacific, Panama, Peru and other countries all over the world.  Christian persecution is increasing. Jesus warned us of increasing these "birth pains" increasing in strength and frequency. 1.30: Struggling with sin? What you need to know if you are...
Today I discuss the Apostle Paul's letter to the Romans verses 7:14 - 8:14 I struggled with sin as a kid growing up Catholic, later as an adult attending a progressive church and even after I was baptized.  Do you find that when you want to do what is right, you inevitably do what is wrong?  Where do you find freedom from being a slave to sin? The answer is Jesus Christ our savior, redeemer and Lord who gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit when you invite him into your heart.  What's life in the Spirit like?  What you need to do to follow the Spirit Jesus said, “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” ~ ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬ - this is repeated 14 times in scripture. Kind of gives the idea that God wants us to pay attention.  Jesus also said, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ~ ‭‭John‬ ‭8:32‬ ‭NLT‬‬ My Website & Blog Soli Deo Gloria -- to God alone be the Glory! Anyone who has Jesus has Life!
Again I read from the John MacArthur's Bible Study on 1 John.  Jesus is the Son of God - the Roman Centurion said so (and so did God, BTW). Are You Absolutely Sure that You're going to Heaven?
Americans and the world are mourning and talking about the tragic and unexpected death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi, along with his pilot and 6 other friends.  They were going to a game. I’m sure that when they boarded the helicopter, the thought that this might be their last night alive didn’t occur to any of the passengers. That’s just it. We are going to die. We are humans. That’s the way it works. However, what we don’t know is when or how. You Don't have to Fear Death: What You Need to Know
A few years ago, I needed to have a lump removed from my neck. It was  outpatient surgery, but my doctor told me that he'd have the lump  biopsied for cancer. When he said that, a great feeling of dread swept  over me. It wasn't the fear of dying, but the fear of the treatment if  it was malignant. Praise God that it wasn't. A dear friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 4, metastatic ovarian  cancer. It had spread to her liver, stomach and other major organs.  Doctors prescribed chemo treatments, then surgery, then more chemo and  if all went well, she should be cancer free. Conduct Unbecoming a Christian
If you’ve served in the military or watched any war movies, you’ve  probably heard the phrase, “conduct unbecoming an officer.” It’s a  charge with sometimes severe consequences if an officer does something  that an officer shouldn’t do. As Christians, we are supposed to act like Christ — Strive to be Christ-like. It’s expected of us. In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he stresses this: Philippians 1:27a: Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. What’s important are the first two words: “whatever happens” – that means at all times, in all circumstances, no matter what. There’s no Excuse for not Behaving like a Christian! It’s not easy. But God gave us two invaluable tools: the Bible and the Holy Spirit. Read more.... Why the Protestant Reformation was Crucial
October 31 is not only Halloween, it's also Protestant Reformation Day - a pivotal point in Christian History. It started with Jesus and the Resurrection when he defeated death by dying on the cross then he was raised from the dead. Then Pentecost when God gave us the Holy Spirit. Then Paul's missionary journeys to spread the Gospel to not just Jews, but Gentiles (non-Jews) also. Emperor Constantine converted from Paganism to Christianity declaring that the Roman Empire was now all Christian in 4th century. Though there are many more pivotal points in Christian History, besides the ones mentioned above, the Protestant Reformation is the most crucial. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther, a German monk, posted the 95 Thesis on the door of the Catholic church in Wittenberg, Germany. It listed 95  ways that the Roman Catholic Church of the time, did not follow the  Bible. Videos and more of the story on my blog.... Are You Shocked by Sin?
When you get on social media or watch TV or movies, have you become desensitized?  Are we condoning sin when we shouldn't?  We are as a society, less and less shocked. We are the proverbial frog in a pan of heating water, unaware of our danger. What would Jesus do about the lack of concern over sin? Wouldn't He want to restore sight to those who are blinded by the  deceitfulness of sin? A healthy fear of God is a good way to restore our  sense of right and wrong, sin and righteousness. Idolatry and Immorality: Jesus Speaks to the Churches - Revelation
I love the Book of Revelation. It's the last book of the Bible and it's awesome! I must have done over 20 Bible studies on Revelation. The first time you read through it you may think it's something between a fantasy, sci-fi thriller and fire-and-brimstone preacher with a little "Ghostbusters" mixed in. It isn't easy to understand. However, the BEST Bible Study on Revelation is one I discovered in the Bible.com app by Pastor Kris Langham of ThroughTheWord.org. How to Have Your Own Epiphany: 3 Gifts from Jesus
Today many churches celebrated Epiphany or 3 Kings Day. Actually, 3 Kings Day is Jan. 6th. In old Spanish traditions, they didn’t celebrate Christmas, but 3 Kings Day when the 3 Wise Men brought gifts to the baby Jesus. Spanish children found gifts by their beds when they awoke. Puerto Rico claimed not only the old Spanish traditions, but adopted American ones, too. So as a lucky Puerto Rican kid, I got gifts both on Christmas and 3 Kings Day. As an adult, I learned that 3 Kings Day was also called “Epiphany”. What is an epiphany? It’s an ah-hah moment when you realize something or something makes sense. The dictionary defines it as “A sudden insight or intuitive understanding.” For the 3 Wise Men, it was an intuitive discovery of the Christ child that was prophesied. In Luke‬ ‭2:25-32, we read the story of Simeon who also had an epiphany of sorts… Mary and Joseph had taken Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord. “At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. "That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, Simeon was there. Luke‬ ‭2:25-32"He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, ‘Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people…’” Salvation. Salvation from ALL our sins. In Romans‬ ‭6:23‬ ‭Paul writes... “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”‭‭‬‬ Just like the 3 Kings brought Jesus 3 gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, Jesus gives us 3 gifts through His grace.  He freely gives us salvation from death through the forgiveness of ALL our sins — once and for all, by His death on the cross.  He gives us peace of heart and mind as He lifted the guilt of sin from our shoulders and carried them on the cross. He gives us the Hope of eternal life in paradise with Him. Just like He told the criminal who hung next to Him... As told in ‭‭Luke‬ ‭23:39-43‬ … “One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!”  "But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.”  "Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”  "And Jesus replied... Read more.... Why the Urgency of Jesus' Good News? Why Now?
Have you seen the news lately? Have you been on social media?  Scary, isn’t it?  The Apostle Paul predicted today’s culture exactly in 2 Timothy 3: 1-5:  Paul was writing to his young apprentice, Timothy.  “You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.  They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly.”  And then he tells him, “Stay away from people like that!” Easier said than done, right?  Over in Matthew 24: 1-8, Jesus and his disciples were leaving the Temple grounds in Jerusalem… …”his disciples pointed out to him the various Temple buildings.  But he responded, “Do you see all these buildings? I tell you the truth, they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!” Jesus here was predicting the Roman invasion and destruction of the temple which happened in 70 AD. “ Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?” This is typical of humans. We want to know the future. We want to be prepared.  ‘Jesus told them, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.’ Folks, the birth pains are getting stronger and more frequent. You can’t deny this.... Read more... From Progressive to Born Again Christian: Surviving Unemployment
So at the end of part two of my testimony,  I was heading for Arizona (fleeing hurricanes) with two cats and  singing the song, “The Potters Hand”. I was trusting God to lead me in  the right direction, because I had no idea what was ahead of me. The Phoenix area had several United Church of Christ churches. I was  looking for one that had contemporary music. I ended up attending the  one closest to my apartment, but their concept of contemporary music was  performing classic hymns with band. There were other things in that  church that made me feel uncomfortable. I’ll talk about those at another  time. This church closed down for the month of August for vacation, or  maybe just to not have to pay for air conditioning in the hottest month  in Phoenix. So I went to a small Calvary chapel near my apartment and I liked it.  They had good contemporary music and I felt free. I could raise my hands  in worship if I felt like it, I could say “amen” if I felt like it and I  didn’t feel weird. A year after moving to Phoenix, I bought a house and I started church  shopping near my new location. Again, I was looking for a contemporary  service in a nondenominational church. That’s when I found First Christian Church of Phoenix known as FCC. I loved the music and the sanctuary was really cool being a historic  Frank Loyd Wright building. I attended what they called at that time the  “101 Class”, which explains what the church’s beliefs were and what it  was like to become a member there. The pastor at the time, Scott Pixler, brought up baptism by immersion.  I’m thinking, here we go again. And somebody else in the room asked  about being baptized as a baby. I thought, at least somebody else has  the same question as I do. Then Pastor Scott said, “There’s no sprinkling in the Bible.” Huh? That got me to thinking because I had done so much research for my novel which takes place in first century Italy about the first century churches. I remember reading something about baptism. So I went home and I dug up my notes and I found instructions on baptism from the early church fathers back in the 2nd century in a document called the "Didache". See back then, the idea was to get all new converts baptized as soon as possible. ... The Rest of the Story... Are you following Jesus or a church? From Prodigal to Progressive: Surviving Hurricanes
My Faith Journey - Part 2 In part 1 of my testimony, I had survived college and was living the good life working on a cruise  ship and God had answered my prayer in finding a new boss. Here’s the  next major stage of my life as God continues to guide me in the right  direction, but I stubbornly try to do things my way and listen to “false  prophets.” I ended up working for three years on several cruise ships in various  different jobs. Besides hopping to just about every island in the Caribbean, I  visited Venezuela, Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico. Did 3  trans-canal cruises and 2 summers in Alaska out of Vancouver. I also  visited Seattle and Long Beach, CA. After a while, I got tired of living like a gypsy and I wanted to  settle down. I knew that I didn’t want to live in Puerto Rico soI  decided to move to Miami. A friend of mine from the ship was living  there and she was willing to let me stay with her for a few days until I  found a place to live. I also wanted to find a church and start working my way back to God. I  stayed a few weeks in Puerto Rico with my parents as I planned my  one-way trip to Miami. I started watching Christian TV shows and I  started reading the Bible. Now, we didn’t have a regular Bible in our home — we had one of those  huge family Bibles that I think must’ve weighed about 50 pounds. It was  the only thing I had so I started reading it. It was a King James in the  old English — that was interesting. And I had no idea what I was  reading. So when I moved to Miami I started church shopping. I knew nothing  about the different denominations who they followed or believed in. The  first church I went to was the one where my landlady went to. I was  renting a garage apartment. It was a Baptist church. Now, coming from  Catholic background and going to a Baptist church, I was totally lost.  It was a huge church and I started going to the singles ministry which  met for about an hour before the service started. Now as a Catholic, I was baptized when I was six months old. The  people at that church kept asking me when I was baptized and I said when  I was six months old. And they kept saying well, now, you need to be  baptized again. But nobody explain to me why I needed to be baptized  again. It didn’t make any sense to me. When I moved to another apartment in North Miami, again I went church  shopping and I went to a Church of Christ and they sing without music.  Growing up, I always sang in the choir at school and in college, so I  knew I wanted to sing in the choir and I played music so I liked music. One Sunday, I try the church that was three blocks away from my house  — it was a United Church of Christ (UCC) and very friendly people  welcomed me. Once I sat down, the pastor walked up the aisle and  introduced himself. And in talking later with the pastor’s wife, I  mentioned I was interested in singing in the choir. She immediately said  oh “We rehearse on Thursdays, we’ll pick you up.” I told her I lived three blocks away I can walk. She insisted, “We’ll pick you up.” She wanted to make sure that I showed up. So I started singing in the choir, going to Bible study on Sunday  mornings before service. We studied the whole the Bible — the Good News  Version — which was easier to understand. I felt the Catholic church had  deprived me of the true Word of God. I was seeking... The Rest of the Story...

From Catholic to Prodigal: Surviving College
My Spiritual Journey Testimony from Catholicism to the Wild Life.... (Part 1) I was born into a Catholic family on a Catholic island, Puerto Rico.  When I was 2 1/2 my dad decided that he could make more money living in  New York, so he went there first & got a job in sales and then he  sent for me and my mom. I remember growing up and going to church with my mom every Sunday  —never failed rain, snow, sleet, we went to church on Sunday. My dad  never went to church—he had an excuse that he had a knee injury and that  didn’t allow him to kneel in church. God forbid he couldn’t kneel in  church. Missing church was a mortal sin. Maybe my dad had a special pass  from the priest. Once I did my first communion, we had to go to church on Saturday for  confession to confess our sins that we committed that week, to be able  to receive communion on Sunday during mass. I remember sometimes making  up sins. So, yes, I lied during confession. In the early ‘70s we moved up upstate New York to a small town called  Chester. The Catholic Church there, wanting to be hip, started doing  folk masses. I joined the choir and I played guitar with them. We sang  songs like “They’ll know we are Christians by our love”. I actually  enjoyed going to church. When I went to college in ’73, I went to a small town in Vermont and I  went to the Catholic Church there. It was old-fashioned and boring. I  decided I’d rather go out and party on Saturday nights and sleep in on  Sunday mornings. That started my life as a wild child. I was a party  girl. I’m really surprised I survived college. First let me mention that my dad was a recovering alcoholic. He had  stopped drinking, then met my mom and got married and had me. I have a  very high tolerance for alcohol. Now, at that time, the drinking age in  Vermont was 21 but in New York it was 18. My school was a half a mile  from the New York border. Two very smart entrepreneurs opened bars just  over the New York border on either side of my school. I could drink  anybody under the table. My college was an all-girls school and to go find guys we had to drive  anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half to another school. One of  my favorite schools was RPI, in Troy, NY. It was an hour and a half  drive. In my sophomore year, my dad gave me a car. Because I had a car, I  was very popular and I would chauffeur many gals to the various frat  parties at the other schools. Back then we usually passed around a bottle of wine on the way down,  partied hardy, drank a lot of beer at the frat parties and then I drove  back from Troy — an hour and a half. And it wasn’t a straight-line  highway. The roads were country roads and we had to take this road and  then take that road and then take that road, before I got to school. Miraculously, I would wake up safe and sound in my dorm room, on my bed, not remembering the drive —but we made it back! I was there for four years, so imagine how many frat parties we attended. After college, my mom inherited the house she grew up in in Puerto Rico and we move back there. Living in Puerto Rico, I continued my wild-child lifestyle. I was  looking for love in all the wrong places. I was searching for something —  trying to fill a hole in my heart and as it turned out I was looking  for Jesus. However, I didn’t know it yet.... About Seeking the Gospel Truth
Hi, my name is Giselle Aguiar and I’d like to ask you an important question. Are you absolutely sure that you’re going to Heaven when you die?  If you’re Catholic, you’ll probably say yes. However, I’ll go back to — are you absolutely sure? Are you confident?  Or are you walking around with a false sense of salvation?  I grew up Catholic. But I felt like I was missing something. I eventually discovered that the Catholic church doesn’t tell the basic truth of the salvation of Jesus Christ.  Through this podcast, I will try to explain what you, as a Catholic, are missing. And it’s a very important part.  Now, I’m not into Catholic bashing. And I know that the Catholic church does great charitable works around the world.  The first 3 episodes are my personal Christian testimony. I’m not an ordained minister. I’m actually a social media marketing coach. I’ve lead singles ministries and bible study groups in several churches. I don’t want to see Catholics miss out on Jesus’ true salvation.  And God has put in my heart to tell the truth about the Gospel of Jesus Christ - the Good News of the salvation that only Jesus Christ can give you.  Why now? Look around the world. As Jesus put it in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 24 — they’ll be wars and rumors of wars… kingdom will rise against kingdom… and this is just the start of the birth pains.  Well, the birth pains are coming faster and stronger. We are in the last days. Jesus could come back for His church at any moment. Will you be left behind?  If you’re not 100%, positively sure that you’ve got your ticket to Heaven, then listen to this podcast and subscribe so you don’t miss an episode.   I have a blog called Seek the Truth Soli Deo Gloria - to God be the Glory!
