#95 Thoughts & Feelings From a Funeral
1st funeral I’ve gone to since my grandfather died when I was 18yo, puts things into perspective.
Life is short.
Time flies.
Spend it with people who matter & if people who matter are not in your life atm, reach out to them so you don’t have any regrets.
Because one day you may get a call like my friend @bigdanrath that his 61 yo father who was in perfect health suddenly died skiing in Whistler
RIP Terry Rathgeber, thx for teaching me & Dan how to snowboard when I was 18 🏂
The funeral was in a community gym Dan & I used to play 🏀 in, 1st gym I ever had a dunk in a game. Great speeches Dan, your dad would be proud.
PS I just found out today the Founder of my fav cafes, Waves Coffee franchisees here in Vancouver just died in his 50s.
That is why I’m doing all I can to get my parents out here to the west coast 🌊 bc my biggest fear is losing a parent, now that my dad is 80, that fear is getting real.

I filmed this a while back & didn't publish it because I try to stay away from "religion & politics" but thought with the state of the world people may need some support & faith that they have the time to consider it over Easter.
I think the best argument of having faith/religion/spirituality as I mentioned is looking at it like a practical business decision of having insurance: if you buy a house or car, of course, you get insurance for it, right?
Then why wouldn't you protect your most valuable asset, your soul, with insurance?
Even if there is any small chance that there is a heaven or hell, wouldn't you want protection to cover you to make sure you spend eternity in the good place, not the bad one?
Anyway, I am not trying to preach which religion is best, I've been to multiple meditation silent retreats in Buddhist temples in Asia, I did Birthright Jewish trips to Israel, have attended mass at the Vatican in Rome.
For me, after attending services at Anglican, Protestant & even Evengelical, the Roman Catholic Church is where I am @ each Sunday as it is the right fit for me, BUT you have the right to believe in any, or none.
*And it's all good*
I'm not here trying to convert anyone, and Lord knows I am soooo far from perfect, just sharing my perspective during this Holy Week and creating a conversation about the reality of death that is more real now that it ever has been due to this pandemic that many people have lost family / friends too.
& I may lose some podcast YT subscribers that don't agree, but that is also all good.

#86 Intense Personal & Professional Life Update + My Korea COVID19 Quarantine Exodus to Canada
I'M BACK & ALIVE! This has been the longest podcast break between episodes EVER but as you will hear, its for good reason.
My personal & professional life has been utter chaos the past while so much so I packed up my entire life in Asia after 9 years and moved back to Canada in the middle of a global pandemic.
If you are stressed about your current situation, in this episode you will feel better in comparison of all the drama / trauma I have gone thru life:
-Getting a TEDx talk, practicing / prepping for 6 months then being deleted / censored from conference 24hs before the event
-finding out my girlfriend was cheating on me with someone I knew
- illegally being laid off from my university, then suing them after 2 lawyers, the labor board and Ministery Of Education told me I would win the case
-finding out my previous landord screwed me out of 6K in the past 6 years.
-moved buildings into a new beautful apt
-then 3 months later having to move from that apt to flee back to Canada and the new renter stealing all my furnishings and screwing me out of about 1K and a months rent.
- Getting last flight allowed out of Korea with 2 passengers behind me testing positive for CORVID19.
Going into a 2 week self isolation quarantine upon returning to Canada.
So, hope this makes you feel better, I am not trying to play the victime sympathy game, just give and honest & authentic update on what has been going on in life personal & professional life.

I don't play "victim" to my experiences, however I have allowed these life experiences to jade me and turn me into a man I am not proud of. I was raised by a prostitute who later became known as a famous murdered the media called the "Black Widow of Texas". I had to make the hard decision to testify against my mother in court for murder after she asked me to frame someone else for the murder she committed. I never planned on saying anything until she later tried to convince others that my brother was responsible.
I've been deployed to Iraq and I've even attempted to take my own life at one point. I have spent these last 31 years of living trying to please everyone else... trying to make everyone else happy... trying to be what I thought everyone wanted me to be. I would become a chameleon to my environment just to try and earn love that I had craved since childhood.
Recently I lost my unborn son, and it sparked something inside of me. I have 2 children that are my life, but I've spent the majority of their life away working and trying to build an empire in my own business. As soon as I noticed this, I moved my family out of the city onto an 18 acre homestead in Texas. I am now going through my own journey of self realization and self transformation. I am spending however long it takes to learn about myself. To overcome the ghosts of my past. To figure out what it is that actually makes me happy.
I know nothing about myself. To be honest, I'm scared. To be fully transparent, if things don't change I know that this life would end a lot sooner than it needs to. As a man, I have children that need me... I am not teaching these children how to live if I don't take care of myself first. It's now time for me to be selfish so that I can become everything I'm supposed to be and the father they deserve!"

This is the most important and also most personal topic I have covered in this podcast series and it has taken me months get up the courage to release this, and I am choosing to it today, March 5th which is my son Ethan's 15th birthday.
(Which I have sent emails to his mom to have a skype call set up with him and to be able to send him his presents, and got no reply, which is unfortunately common and not surprising basically happens every year...
What is surprising is how a person/parent can be so sociopathic to rob their child from a healthy loving relationship from their other parent and tell the child 'they don't need that other parent in their lives")
Very few people know the whole story of the absolute hell I have been through to not only maintain a relationship with my son, but to even have contact with him after his mother and I broke up years ago, which resulted in a 10 year intense court custody case that I basically got completely screwed over in, and I for the first time ever reveal all the details in this episode...
As a result of these 10 years in court fighting for my fatherly rights, I basically lost all my 'rights' as we settled out of court and in doing so it has been 5 years since I have been 'allowed' to visit my son, for zero reasonable reasons other than his mother saying he has a new dad now, that being her new husband.
Thought looking at the facts from a surface level, guys like me, Eric and millions of other parents who are not living with or spending tons of time with their children may appear to be "dead beat dads / moms" however you never know the circumstances or the legal reasons why they are not invited or allowed to have the unrestricted access to their own children because of this 100% corrupt family court system.
Which is so sick and twisted I could rant on forever about that.
