Self Care Is My Job

Self Care Is My Job

By Samantha Long

Hi I’m Sam!

About five years, my whole world was turned upside down when simultaneously I became a mother and abruptly left the corporate world. In what was supposed to be the happiest time in my life, I felt totally lost. But slowly through learning to prioritize real self care, not just bubble baths and pedicures, I was able to realign with my true self.

Today, I’m a yoga instructor and a Self Care Mentor for Moms. Check out my new YouTube show / audio series: Self Care Is My Job, where we’ll be talking with friends in healthcare, wellness and holistic healing about prioritizing our physical and mental health and best practices for navigating all that stuff that gets in our way of doing so.

The goal: to remember who you really are and live fearlessly and fulfilled.

Say it with me... "SELF CARE IS MY JOB!"

Episode #42: Renewed Mom's Revolution with Sara Wells

Sara Wells is a mom and founder of the Renewed Moms Revolution, based in Monmouth County, NJ, which is a business dedicated to helping moms reduce burnout and reintroduce simple pleasures back into their lives through locally based retreats.

Thank you Sara, for sharing your self care journey with us, and for all you do to give mom's a chance to prioritize themselves in the midst of all the expectations and overwhelm.

Sara shared that one of the most important forms of self care she introduced as a overwhelmed mom trying to find pleasure in her life was setting boundaries.

"As a recovering people pleasing perfectionist, I have learned how important it is to learn to say NO."  ~Sara Wells

Episode #41: Showing Up In Spite of Your Shadows with Business Coach Fi Simler

Episode #41: Showing Up In Spite of Your Shadows with Business Coach Fi Simler

Nothing will force you to take a good look at your patterns and shadows like a major life transition, which can look like changing careers, moving, having kids, or becoming an entrepreneur!  I am so thankful to Fi Simler, Founder of Astra Business Coaching, for talking with me about showing up fearlessly and authentically both in life and business in spite of our core wounds and inner critic.

We all have residual trauma from past experiences and absorbing programming, which can sometimes block us from taking steps toward the life we really want. One root of this trauma and blockage for many people myself included sounds something like: The harder I work, the more I bust ass, the more I am operate like a machine, is the only way to succeed. But, this mentality is approaching business and success as if it's a one dimensional thing, which couldn't be farther from the truth. Fi reminds us to slow down and ask the question - "Is this true?" Mindfulness through self care like yoga and meditation.

"I had to ask myself: When did I learn that I needed to break my body to be successful?" ~ Fi Simler

Fi Simler is a business coach and Instagram expert that believes it's time to give the middle finger to manipulative business practices, and that your success lies in you letting go of hustle and embracing your humanity instead! Fi helps her clients create results sustainably from space of embodiment and joy.

Episode #38: Ugly Self Care: Working on your relationships (THREE Truths You May Not Want To Hear)

Self Care isn't always pretty. In fact, sometimes it's downright uncomfortable. And to boot, our society has unfortunately done a great job at teaching us not only that discomfort is BAD, but to avoid (suppress) it at every turn. Self care is about improving your life - your wellness, happiness and fulfillment. And if your relationship are strained or even dysfunctional, you are the only one that can do something about.

In this episode, we talk about three things you need to accept about having those tough conversation that would hopefully lead to improved relationships. I would love to hear what you think! So please leave me a review or feel free to continue to the conversation with me over on instagram @the_aligned_heart.

Mom Bomb #11 Ending the War With Food With Jillian Lama

Mom Bomb #11 Ending the War With Food With Jillian Lama

In this NEW Mom Bomb episode, we're talking to NEW MOM and Certified Master Life & Weight Loss Coach Jillian Lama!
Let's talk about ending the war with food as a form of self care / self love. We need to eliminate the idea that there are "good" and "bad" foods, or there are foods we "should" and "shouldn't" be eating. The "eat this, not that " message of the diet industry only creates war with food, our bodies and ultimately ourselves.

Jillian and I encourage you not to say "screw it, I'll start again in January" as we lead into this holiday season since starting again often looks like a restrictive, short term quick fix, or even a punishment for your prior decisions, which only hurts the way we think about ourselves and our success.

"So often self care is positioned as "take care of yourself so that you can take care of others" instead of taking care of yourself simply because we're worth it and deserve to have some pleasure, joy and peace. A smaller body doesn't fix a broken self concept." ~ Jillian Lama

Episode #36: Choosing YOU | The Work of Self Love with Jen Haddix

In this episode of Self Care Is My Job, we welcome Jen Haddix The Self Love Yogi and go deep into the work of rekindling self love and self worth. For those of us that have become aware that a lack of confidence (self trust and self worth) are what holds us back from living our full expression, we've also established that it's not as easy as flipping a switch on or off. To rekindle our sense of self love takes work. But it's a beautiful unfolding that we encourage you to explore.

Thank you Jen Haddix for this amazing conversation! Jen is The Self Love Yogi and her work is in helping you to use yoga, meditation and self love to break the matrix and change your life.

Episode #35: Self Care Over Self Medicating with Sam

Let's slow down and become aware of the ways in which we distract ourselves from discomfort at every turn.  Whether it's with alcohol or other substances or with an activity like scrolling social media, so often we have a tendency to numb, and self medicate our negative emotions and sensations. Don't worry! It's normal because it's what we were taught. But you can rip that program out and reinstall a new one. Release what does not serve you. Let go. #fall2021  If this video triggers you: ask yourself why and I love you. xo

Episode #34: Breaking the Cycle with Chelsey Wildfire

When I found Chelsey online, I realized immediately we are both on a similar mission. To help people who are stuck get unstuck by burning down the old programming and making way for the TRUTH and wisdom that already exists inside all of us.

In this episode, Chelsey shares her personal story, going from abuse and neglect as a teen to now an empowered leader. There is inevitably always major trauma that occurs early on in the lives of the leaders that I am fortunate enough to co-create with on this show. They choose to follow their intuition, burn down their trauma, and rise from the ashes. And I am ever grateful for their willingness to share their stories. We talked about the most prominent negative cycles people struggle with including generational trauma, guilt, shame and lack of self worth.

Chesley Wildfire is a Feminine Embodiment Coach whose goal is to help women burn through their fears & limitations to find inner safety, connection and pleasure. We do this by being aware of our patterns, and enacting practices to break away from the cycles passed down to us that keep us stuck.

Episode #33: All About Yoga with Andrea Powers of Powers Yoga

ALL ABOUT YOGA with Andrea Powers  of Powers Yoga

As part of a new series of Self Care Is My Job, the All About series, let's discuss all things Yoga with Andrea Powers of Powers Yoga.

I met Andrea a few years back. She was looking for yoga instructor and I taught briefly in her adorable studio in Bergenfield NJ. Covid abruptly forced her to close down the studio, but luckily since then we have continued to work together. I have trained with Andrea in both Aerial Yoga and SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) Yoga. And this October, I will be joining her to co-teach an amazing Yoga Alliance Approved Yoga Teacher Training.

Andrea's story is inspiring and interesting in that she was led to yoga through her spirituality, whereas many others are led to yoga for the physical practice and then later introduced to the spirituality. I believe Andrea's beliefs and gifts contribute to her skill as a both an amazing teacher and a successful entrepreneur. She is a joy to work with on all levels, so if you're interested in deepening your understanding of all aspects of yoga, start here! And then if you want more, we have something else in store!

If you're interested in becoming a yoga instructor or just deepening your understanding of all aspects of yoga, consider joining the Powers Yoga 200 Hour Online Training ! Reserve your spot with a deposit or save 20% if you pay in full before Oct 15th! Learn more here: www.powersyoga.com/learn   Contact me at selfcarewithsam@gmail.com with questions.

Mom Bomb Monday #10: From Numb to Powerful | Sober Curious with Amanda May

Mom Bomb Monday #10: From Numb to Powerful | Sober Curious with Amanda May

Many of us start out drinking for fun. In fact our culture totally glamourizes alcohol and we're conditioned to take our first sip when we turn 21! It's a right of passage. Then as life gets more difficult, we eventually use alcohol to de-stress (or self medicate). In fact, that's encouraged by media and culture too! (Google mommy wine culture)
But here's the thing: In your attempt to numb just one or two things, you are actually numbing everything. You're 'blacking out' the worst parts at the risk of missing the best parts. If this resonates, can we collectively ask ourselves together - is this the path we want to take?
Meet Amanda, a 33 year old sober wife and mother living in wine country. Amanda May quit drinking 10 months ago and her goal is to show other women that if she can do it, then they can too. 💖
Mothering is tough! And sometimes we want so badly to numb out at the end of a loud chaotic day wrangling tiny humans. BUT alcohol is tricky AF and it can all get out of control easily. At one point, we have to ask is this helping or hurting in the long term?? Not to mention that in many ways, alcohol, specifically wine, is marketed to moms as #selfcare, which is complete bullshit.
If you've considered lowering your intake or giving up alcohol altogether but not sure if it's even possible, let's do this together. We got you sis! I will be running an alcohol-free challenge in my Facebook group in the month of October! This should give you plenty of time to mentally prepare...
In the meantime, join the group here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/selfcarewithsam
Thank you so much Amanda for your candid and vulnerable sharing of your story! We need to hear of experiences like yours, as we can only clearly see ourselves in each other if we share and connect.
Follow Amanda on Instagram @sober_musings_with_mandy for more sober life content and encouragement!

Episode #32: Shedding Layers | Releasing Tension & Trauma with Krista Buccari

Episode #32: Shedding Layers | Releasing Tension & Trauma with Krista Buccari

So thankful to Krista Buccari for joining me on the show! I started following Krista on Instagram and loved her gua sha (facial massage) videos, but her content also includes self care practices such as non-linear movement, face yoga, and self love! In retrospect, I am not surprised our conversation spanned from anti-aging tools to releasing trauma held in the body!

Krista Buccari is a Licensed Massage Therapist who specializes in natural facial rejuvenation and supporting one's radiant aging journey. In her treatments she leverages various modalities with skillful intentional touch to increase flow within the tissues, ease and balance the nervous system, and ignite the body's healing potential. This allows for profound changes to occur within the skin, bones, and musculature of the face. She focuses on releasing tension, trauma and holding patterns, and re-educating the facial tissues into an ideal posture. The results are a lifted renewed facial contour, brightened complexion, softened and eliminated wrinkles - and a wholly rejuvenated spirit.

In this episode, Krista shares her very personal story about body image, surgeries, scarring and the emotional journey that followed. She found herself working with a myofascial specialist, which led her to eventually becoming a bodyworker herself.
Our fascia is the connective tissue that covers every organ in the body. It's part of our nervous system , highly intelligent, and is the basis of the mind-body connection. It's also where unprocessed trauma is stored, and therefore where healing through the body can happen. "Fascia remembers everything that ever happened to you. Your body is your subconscious mind. Movement is the language of the body, which addresses the light fluid body, as opposed to a deep tissue massage. " ~ Krista Buccari

Episode #31: Overcoming Adversity & Embracing Authenticity with Nicole Smith Levay

Episode #31: Overcoming Adversity & Embracing Authenticity with Nicole Smith Levay

I have been following Nicole Smith Levay for some time and I am so excited for this conversation with her about Self Love and Living Authentically!   Major life transitions always send us in a new direction.

When Nicole suffered from chronic pain, she discovered her scoliosis would put an end to her dancing career.  But her love for yoga and meditation paired with her body awareness from dancing led her to eventually acquire a Masters in Somatic Psychology.

What is Somatics or Somatic Exeriencing? Much like yoga, mediation, dance or any movement practice, somatics makes up aware of our mind body spirit access points. While some people have more access at certain points, the important thing is to reestablish the connection between the three.

"Somatic therapy incorporates body-oriented modalities such as dance, breathwork, and meditation to support patients through their healing journeys. In addition, somatic experiencing therapy sessions include talk therapy and mind-body exercises. This therapy aims to help release how a physical body holds on to stress, tension, and trauma, rather than only resolving problems verbally." - Verywellmind.com

In this episode we explore the meaning and benefits of somatics, and discuss the importance of vulnerability and authenticity in order to as Nicole puts it: "Re-Member and integrate that truth back into your existing life."

Nicole recently shared about an experiment in authenticity on social media, creating a separate account to practice sharing more openly without fear of judgement.  "I went into those outcasted parts for me and went for it, and it was so much fun. I had been shutting down parts of myself because I thought - this isn't professional - and now it's all coming back."  The first thing Nicole posted on the separate account was a picture of her body, something that so many of are fearful of. "There's this mind body split in our society. Body is only seen as objectified and for the soul purpose of procreation or sexual stimulation. What can we explore in this gray area?" Nicole Smith Levay

What would be the first thing you would share if no one was judging?

Nicole is a former professional dancer turned Energy Coach who integrates somatic therapy, meditation, and breathwork into healing sessions and classes for women who struggle with anxiety and depression.  Her work through Power Within Healing creates a safe integrative space for those overcoming adversity, and embraces the philosophy that pain is a teacher, and awareness through somatics is the medicine. Episode #30: The Big Shift with Bridgit Norris

Episode #30: The Big Shift with Bridgit Norris

Coach and Freedom Facilitator Bridgit Norris joins me for a conversation about self love, self trust and remembering that you're free to live your life and run your business any way you like! Sometimes we feel the need to reevaluate everything in life or business, and in this conversation we make of point of normalizing that! Often it's labeled as "flaky" or "irresponsible" but that's coming from a place of negativity and judgement.

"There is a thing, there is YOUR thing! You can pass it because you're rushing and pushing. You walk right over the obvious. They say slow down to speed up, but actually it's more slow down to reconnect." - Bridgit Norris

We are all conditioned to fit in and fall in line, so we tend to do whatever society or the guru says is right, or whatever our peers are doing. We also tend to over-consume content and rely too heavily on training and tools. When you can reconnect to your Truth, you are able to genuinely Know what is sitting well with you and what isn't, what is aligned and what isn't.

Thank you Bridgit for this enlightening conversation and for all you continue to share! You can find Bridgit Norris and her offerings online here: https://linktr.ee/bridgitnorris https://www.instagram.com/bridgitnorris/

Episode #29 - Summer of Love: My Self Love Journey

Episode #29 - Summer of Love: My Self Love Journey

If you love everything about yourself, and you never beat yourself up about anything, this episode is not for you. Truth is most of us do battle feelings of never feeling like we are enough as we are. We beat ourselves up for not living up to expectations we didn't create or agree to and it's time to put the bat down. We all have a story of not being seen or heard, feeling judged, hiding. Noticing this pattern and becoming dedicated to a healing journey, possibly enlist support to do so, is the highest form of self love.

In this episode, I am vulnerably sharing parts of my healing journey back to self love to encourage others to start vocalizing their truth and in the hopes that I can be a mirror for someone to see ways in which they can work to heal themselves.

Episode #28: Stress Free Parenting with Tia Slightham

Episode #28: Stress Free Parenting with Tia Slightham

Parenting can be SO TOUGH! As parents, we can beat ourselves up for not knowing the solutions, losing our shit, worrying about doing damage to our kids etc.  Since I like to get the root of things here on Self Care Is My Job, let's address how in reality, we are not given all the tools we need for parenting and how self care can help us regulate so we can respond instead of react.  Parenting Coach Tia Slightham joins us on the show with LOTS of parenting solutions and advice!

She reminds us that we are in control over our relationship and connection with our children. Just like everything else in life, if it's broke let's fix it. It takes work and dedication but it's worth all the effort for your mental health of you and your kids.  "Don't stay stuck. We get the choice to have our life be how we want it to be. It's important to say I want to make a change." ~ Tia Slightham

Mom Bomb #9 : Self Love & Boundaries With Melissa Salmeron

Mom Bomb #9 : Self Love & Boundaries With Melissa Salmeron

Life Coach and mother of three Melissa Salmeron joins me for this amazing conversation about motherhood, relationships, self awareness, and effectively setting boundaries with your loved ones. Once again, we discuss the concept that as women, we are programmed to go after this "white picket fence" lifestyle and then when we finally achieve that, we feel unfulfilled because we aren't connected with our truth and purpose. Luckily, we have resources and support available to us to help us realign. Much like on my own journey, through therapy and coaching, Melissa was able to remember her gifts and get out of her own way to make major transformations in her mom life and career.

Melissa has had much success when working with coaches specific. "Someone can see clearly a belief that you hold and help you  work through it and shift it." Thank you Melissa for sharing your story with us!

Episode #28: Beyond The White Picket Fence | Healing the Mother Wound with Krista Kathleen

Episode #28: Beyond The White Picket Fence | Healing the Mother Wound with Krista Kathleen

Heal the Mother, Heal the World.

The Mother Wound refers to the generational trauma passed down from mother to daughter due to the expectations placed on women in a patriarchal society.   The purpose of this isn't to shame mothers of grown children or induce anxiety upon mothers who are actively parenting little ones. It's an important conversation that needs to happen for self awareness, the first step to healing.  "What we don't own we project, what we don't heal we pass on." - Bethany Webster (author of “Discovering the Inner Mother: A Guide to Healing the Mother Wound and Claiming your Power") https://www.instagram.com/themotherwound/

Patriarchy can be triggering word for some people so let's define it. (n) A society where the father or eldest male is head of the family, men hold the power and women are excluded from the power.  Women's rights and equality have a come a long way, but the Patriarchy is still so strong and embedded that women self police themselves to fill the unrealistic expectations society has set for us.   Women are conditioned to believe that their place is to be small, quiet, submissive, subservient and for mothers specifically - self sacrificing. That conditioning is like a wound, a traumatic mindset that is passed from generation to generation. So even as the world evolves, the wound is there.  "Women will continue to feel stuck as long as we believe our safety is contingent on compliance with patriarchal standards and expectations."  - Bethany Webster (author of “Discovering the Inner Mother: A Guide to Healing the Mother Wound and Claiming your Power")

Women can work to heal the mother wound by living life on their own terms and we can do this by way of important forms of self care like speaking and living your truth, resting, asking for help, setting boundaries, and releasing the attachment to fulfilling society's expectations. Ask mother wound expert Bethany Webster says: "Feel the guilt and do it anyway."

I want to thank my friend and fellow Life Coach Krista Kathleen for joining me on this episode and bringing this important concept into the spotlight! Her book "Beyond The White Picket Fence", which is available NOW on Amazon, is a perfect example a women healing this mother wound. It's all about how Krista, after many years of building what some would consider the "perfect life", pivoted and transformed her life to live on her own terms.

Episode #26: Heal, Transform, and Parent: Embodied Parenting with Jannae Rice

Episode #26: Heal, Transform, and Parent: Embodied Parenting with Jannae Rice

Parenting can both beautiful and complicated, rewarding and depleting. It's quite the emotional rollercoaster, and being in constant reaction to our kids can put our nervous system through the ringer.

In this episode, we're talking with Integrative Mental Health Specialist and Founder of Embodied Parenting Jannae Rice all about using our triggered moments as growth opportunities to parent from a place of deep connection.

Jannae offers this explanation for when we are triggered by our child's behavior: "Because of past triggers and traumas, it's hard to differentiate is this the past or the present? Our system gets glinchy, and then we are reactive versus responsive and there's a BIG difference."

She also offers this advice for moving into embodiment (being in our body and present): "When we are HERE, we have access to so much more. We can access to choice in our sovereignty to participate in our life unfolding in the way that we want."

Episode #25: Safe In Your Body | Pelvic Floor Health with Jennifer Collard Forns

Episode #25: Safe In Your Body | Pelvic Floor Health with Jennifer Collard Forns

It's another Month of Mom episode and we're chatting with Jennifer Collard Forns, PT, RYT 200 about Pelvic Floor Health.

Disclaimer: if you're not comfortable with the terms vagina penis vulva or labia...you can skip this one!

Mamas, there is so much they don't tell us before becoming a mom, am I right?! All we hear about is how beautiful and rewarding an experience it will be. But we aren't fully prepped for what it will mean for our body. Many mothers experience urinary incontinence, painful intercourse and other issues post partum, and in many cases they are in need of physical therapy for their pelvic floor muscles.

Jenn Forns wants you to know: "NO amount of leakage is acceptable!" Meaning your wellness and quality of life is IMPORTANT, especially for mothers. You are worthy of prioritizing your wellness and correcting these fixable issues. Just like therapy you would receive following an orthopedic procedure, therapy after childbirth is just as important!

** BONUS ** Join my Facebook Community Self Care With Sam for special bonus material provided by Jenn! Educational videos and a list of her top recommended LUBES!

Episode #24: Ask Dr. Drew! | Integration over Balance in Motherhood with Psychotherapist Lisa Drew

Episode #24: Ask Dr. Drew! | Integration over Balance in Motherhood with Psychotherapist Lisa Drew

It's May and it's the Month of Mom on Self Care Is My Job!  In this episode, Psychotherapist & Leadership and Empowerment Coach Lisa Drew and I discuss how balance in motherhood is a farce!

Let's face it - it's very rare that we actually acquire balance for more than a moment before it's gone again. Especially in motherhood, when every part of our lives as mothers is effected by the needs of our kids, balance is fleeting. But that's OK! Lisa suggests that we throw out the term Balance, and replace it with Integration. Balance suggests everything is perfectly 50/50 but to integrate is to combine (one thing) with another so that they become a whole. We can accept that everything together as whole is exactly as it should be.

Mom Bomb #7: Letting Go of Emotional Blocks | Releasing Limiting Beliefs With Whitney Warmka

Mom Bomb #7: Letting Go of Emotional Blocks | Releasing Limiting Beliefs With Whitney Warmka

In this episode of Mom Bomb Monday, I am welcoming Whitney Warmka, a single mother and caregiver from Wells, Minnesota. Whitney is also an Energy Healer, Reiki Master, and Emotional Freedom Techniques Practitioner. She is the owner of Love, Whit where she blends Reiki, Emotional Freedom Techniques, activation & guidance to help you get unstuck and bring you back to the truth of who you are.

We had a powerful conversation about Letting Go of emotional blocks that hold us back from living our most fulfilled and authentic life. Often we cling to old stories told to us by voices of authority or learned from isolated incidents in our youth. These stories become belief systems that we tend wear as part of our personality, even though these beliefs do not serve us in anyway. Through coaching and self care, like emotional freedom technique (tapping), and other healing modalities, we can learn to release these emotional blocks, cultivate self love and self trust, and step into our full power.

Episode #22: Letting Go of the Go-Go-Go | Balancing Masculine and Feminine Energy with Ankhara Rose

Episode #22: Letting Go of the Go-Go-Go | Balancing Masculine and Feminine Energy with Ankhara Rose

It's an honor to welcome back Ankhara Rose to the show! Ankhara is a Sacred Songstress & Breathwork Facilitator. She helps women activate and awaken the power of their voices, heal their relationships with themselves & use song to enhance their offerings.

In this special episode, we discussed embracing our feminine energy - the natural tendency to slow down, process, flow, SING- and releasing some over- expressed masculine energy, which promotes the need to go go go, and always be doing!

This understanding paired with meditation and breath for a presence practice has been so instrumental for me in letting go of a ton of pressure I put on myself to always being offering more and producing results and fast! I think many of us suffer from the feeling of "not enough". We discuss all of this so join in the conversation!

If we could just SLOW DOWN, we would remember how to listen to our bodies and our hearts. This natural feminine gift is often programmed out of us in the patriarchal society that values only the doing, the going, the results.

We are human BEINGS. Not human DOINGS.

Episode #21: Letting Go of the Past | Releasing Old Patterns and Trauma with Heather Natoli

Episode #21: Letting Go of the Past | Releasing Old Patterns and Trauma with Heather Natoli

The fascial system is a layer of intelligent connective tissue that coats nearly everything inside our bodies. It's proven that not only do we hold trauma from adverse experiences in our bodies in this complex system, but we also inherit the effects of trauma from generations before us. We carry it into our adult lives by way of language, not just with words but also in body language. We take on physical and emotional patterns that stay with us. Until we are ready to let it go.

Heather Natoli is a massage therapist, homeopath, and owner of The Fascia Clinic. She works with the fascial system to help her clients release lifetimes and potentially generations of held pain. In this episode, we define and explain the importance of the fascial system, discuss epigenetics as well as how we can become aware of the ways to break the cycle of held trauma for future generations. Her offices are in Manasquan NJ and Lincroft NJ.

Episode #20: Release What Does Not Serve You | Letting Go With Sam

Episode #20: Release What Does Not Serve You | Letting Go With Sam

Spring is here and there is a rebirth in program. But in order to reemerge and bloom, we have to let go of what's holding us down or back in life.

This month on Self Care Is My Job we are talking about the concept of Letting Go. Detoxing your life of people, emotions, things, or thoughts that do not in some way enhance your life.  What could you release in your life that would have a positive impact? What's holding you back? What weight are you carrying? What is something you can let go of that is not serving you in life?

For me it means: Letting go of resentment and bitterness to improve my relationships. Letting go of the idea that I have to do more, offer more, be more than I already am. Let go of the masculine energy of hyper productivity and Go-go-go to embrace the feminine, slow down, and flow.  I even polled Facebook to see what letting go meant to other people. Let's dig in!

Episode #19: Moment of Truth | Releasing Your Programming with Denise Mortimer

Episode #19: Moment of Truth | Releasing Your Programming with Denise Mortimer

"Your first response is your conditioned response. Your ancestral response, generational response, the "supposed to" response. But your next response is going to determine your moment of Truth. Choose differently." - Denise Mortimer

As we dive deeper into the Spirituality series and the connection to Self, it's important to address how we can become self aware of our programming - the ideas and beliefs that are embedded from childhood and tend to govern our actions and decisions, but aren't necessarily aligned with our Truth. If we want to live a more fulfilled and authentic life, we have to start choose differently.

Denise Mortimer is a Trauma Release and Business Coach. She helps people to move past energetic and emotional blockages so they can step into their full potential and start thriving businesses. She uses Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Rapid Transformation Therapy, and Hypnosis among other modalities to help her clients achieve their goals. Her favorite self care practices are meditation, affirmations and hypnosis.

Episode #18: Sacred Visions | Mindset & Manifestation with Danielle Marggraf

Episode #18: Sacred Visions | Mindset & Manifestation with Danielle Marggraf

Danielle Marggraf, Mindset and Manifestation Coach, joins me on this episode to discuss how we can align with our true nature to attract what we want into our lives. Like many healers and coaches, Danielle explains how she "woke up" after a pivotal, life transformation years ago and began to live authentically incorporating more spiritualism into her life. Now she helps people to manifest their sacred life vision and wealth consciousness.

As she puts it: "Our self image is a predictor of our results. And so it's time to take off your social mask, and put on your sacred mask." Once we can start living in our Truth, only then can we ask the Universe for what we truly want for us and only us.

Thank you Danielle for joining me in conversation about prioritizing forms of self care to create space for self awareness. It's important to have time and space to ask ourselves what we really need and want and commit to taking inspired action toward that vision. The Universe, Source, God (whatever you   believe in) will respond by sending you more of what you are intentionally working toward.

Episode #17: Coming Out | Mind Body Spirit Integration with Zephyr Williams

Join us for another amazing episode as part of our conversation on Spiritual Self Care in the Mind Body Spirit! This week I was lucky enough to go deep with yoga instructor, creator of Haus of Zeph, host of the @misfitmondays podcast, and Beautiful Human Zephyr Williams !!

Zeph and I are addressing why so many people are disconnected from a self care practice, the importance of "coming home to yourself" and aligning with your true essence. We are also making the connection that identifying as LGBTQIA or disconnecting from the concept of gender entirely is part of a spiritual journey - a "coming out".

Spiritual self care is about connection to Self (capital S), connection to each other and potentially connection to something bigger. As Zeph puts it:  " When I belong to me, I belong to we"

Episode #16: Spirituality & Connection | F*ck Woo Let Your Curiosity Flourish

As we enter March 2021, we're focusing on SPIRIT OR SOUL in our Mind Body and Spirit series on Self Care Is My Job - YouTube Show & Podcast 💕😁🙏🏻✨ Let's have this conversation. So many of us hesitate to voice publicly our thoughts around our connection to Self and to the greater consciousness - God, the Universe, SOURCE.

Let's normalize these types of BIG PICTURE discussions. Whatever you believe in. That is your path to a spiritual self care practice. It's important to believe in something. Let's discuss the benefits of a spiritual practice. On this episode, I share all about my own spiritual journey.

Mom Bomb #4: The Discomforts of a Spiritual Journey and Motherhood with Katrina Johnson

Mom Bomb #4: The Discomforts of a Spiritual Journey and Motherhood with Katrina Johnson

Katrina Johnson and I met through a meditation group on Facebook. Recently, she expressed interest on her social page in sharing the truth about just how hard motherhood really is. I connected with this idea right away, since I majorly value speaking the truth about all the things that this world likes to simplify and categorize. The world paints a picture of how motherhood "should" feel or look. But the world needs to heard that it's way more nuanced than that.

Katrina is a Reiki Master and Akashic Records Practitioner. Her goal is to help women release limiting beliefs to improve relationships.

Mom Bomb #3! Biohacking Your Hormone Cycle with Anna Herendeen

Mom Bomb #3! Biohacking Your Hormone Cycle with Anna Herendeen

We're about to drop another #mombomb!

Menstruating humans! You need to hear this!

What if you could biohack your hormone cycle to optimize your mood, energy, and productivity? What if we could stop beating ourselves up for feeling depleted and embrace our natural feminine flow?

Last week I completed a 4 Day Hormone Detox, which was co led by Anna Herendeen. Anna is a wealth of knowledge on an optimal diet to support both healthy liver function (detoxing) and for woman's cycles (hormones).  The 4 Day Detox was eye 👀 opening to say the least and today I finally get to chat with Anna about all the questions and discoveries that came up in the process. As always, understanding WHY promotes self awareness so that we can make more informed decisions when the situation presents itself.

Mom Bomb Monday #1: Starting A Meditation Practice As A Busy Working Mom

Mom Bomb Monday #1: Starting A Meditation Practice As A Busy Working Mom

YAY for our first of many #mombombmonday episodes!  I am so excited to bring the moms into our conversation, a group of women who struggle to prioritize themselves because of so many societal expectations. I am here to bring to light these concepts and help moms to prioritize their self care.

Are you thinking about starting a meditation practice?

Lisa Castellano is a busy working mother of two. She has recently started a daily meditation routine and it's going great! Specifically, she says she's more mindful of her words and actions at work and can make decisions with more clarity as long as you meditates in the morning.

Through several conversations with Lisa about her experience, we realized there are some clear concepts that beginner meditators should definitely know about. For example, meditation is not about "turning your brain off". The act of noticing and becoming a witness to your thoughts, instead of an active participant is itself the practice.

Episode #10: Confronting the Mind Stuff | Talk Therapy & Coaching with Life Coach Krista Kathleen

Episode #10: Confronting the Mind Stuff | Talk Therapy & Coaching with Life Coach Krista Kathleen

Slowly but surely, we are normalizing talk therapy for managing anxiety, stress and improving our mental health overall, but how often do you hear someone talk openly about their experience in therapy?

Sharing your past traumas, self discoveries, and lessons can be a very vulnerable. But Krista Kathleen, has done just that on this episode of Self Care Is My Job.   Krista Kathleen is a Life Coach from St. Louis, MO. She has chronicled her journey from labor and delivery nurse to life coach, and her growth process to begin prioritizing her own needs and desires in her book Beyond the White Picket Fence, to be released. Through coaching, she now helps women start online life coaching businesses.

I want to thank her for brave and forthcoming shares on social media about her experience with therapy, as this only helps to destigmatize therapy as a form self care for mental health. You can find more information about Krista and all of her offerings at kristakathleen.com.

Episode #8: Mind Body Spirit 101 & Self Care to Support the Whole Self

Episode #8: Mind Body Spirit 101 & Self Care to Support the Whole Self

January 2021 is here and we are all working to set and keep our new years resolutions! #AmIRight

Here's just a suggestion. Instead of making a bucket list of to-do's for 2021, consider setting an intention to support your Mind, Body & Spirit this year. Contentment and fulfillment comes from the the balancing of an uniting of the three.

Think less about what you should do and more about who you want to be, or how you'd like to show up in the world. Ask: how can I bring balance and health in to my life so I can show up authentically as my Whole Self?

January through March, I will focusing on the Mind Body & Spirit in that order on the show. I already have some amazing conversations scheduled with experts in wellness. Today I offer sharing an intro episode -  Mind Body & Spirit 101.

Please do feel free to email me with feedback or requested topics at selfcarewithsam@gmail.com.

Episode #4: Bringing Pleasure Back | Breath, Presence, and Body Love with Ankhara Rose

Episode #4: Bringing Pleasure Back | Breath, Presence, and Body Love with Ankhara Rose

Self Care doesn't have to look a certain way. "It doesn't actually matter what it is,  all that matters is what it does for you." - Ankhara Rose

Breathwork and meditation are great forms of self care to develop mindfulness, or what our guest this week refers to (I think more accurately) as a "presence practice". In this episode of Self Care Is My Job, we discuss breath and presence as a mode to cultivate self-awareness. Self-awareness is a way to come home to our body (to "get out of our head").  That connection allows us to experience real pleasure again, which is something we have lost touch with in a world that devalues stillness and the savoring of a moment and only rewards constantly striving and achievements.

Meet Ankhara Rose! She is a modern day mystic with over 20 years of teaching breathwork, mindfulness, meditation, and sound healing. Her calling is to help people release hidden traumas through breath and sound healing so they can move past blockages and come back to pleasure.  You can view all her offerings at ankhararose.com and look out for a Pleasure Portal Breathwork Group Coaching Session coming December 2020.
