The Body Activism Podcast

By Serena Nangia

The Body Activism Podcast, hosted by Body Activist and Advocate for eating disorder recovery Serena Nangia, began with a simple idea: to make conversations about bodies understandable to the everyday person. Conversations about bodies can be a lot. Serena aims to harness all the noise and dialogue about the issues that matter. This podcast includes diverse voices, bringing guests from across the world and different industries, all with the goals of debunking commonly held myths, challenging stereotypes, and educating about the realities of what it is to live in a body in the 2020s.

Slavery to Diet Culture: Exploring Oppression and Parenting with Dr. Omekongo Dibinga | Episode 7

Listen this week to an incredibly powerful conversation with Dr. Omekongo Dibinga, an international speaker, trilingual poet, TV talk show host, rapper, and professor of Inter-cultural Communication at American University, where he also serves as a faculty affiliate to the Antiracist Research & Policy Center. Dr. Dibinga and Serena talk about the pressure to look a certain way, especially Dr. Dibinga’s experiences as a Black man having grown up in an underserved, low-income community. Hear about his personal relationships with his children and how he manages conversations around body image and health with them. This chat is a real, nitty-gritty and down-deep conversation in which Dr. Dibinga and Serena challenge each other, learn from each other, and uplift each other in a way that people don’t often do publicly. The Body Activism Podcast is especially thankful for Dr. Dibinga’s willingness to chat and collaborate on this episode.
