S1 E10: "Curiosity is the Key"

S1 E10: "Curiosity is the Key"

How do we bring our minds and our communication to a place of openness and trustworthiness? By letting go of judgmental thinking. Sounds good, right? Well, how do we do that? We can start by being more curious about ourselves and others. It's impossible to be both curious and judgmental because curiosity is inherently open and wants to learn. If we can put ourselves in that mindset, we can open up our thinking and our communication. This podcast offers ways to practice thinking in a different way and how that might impact your communication.

Into the Wolf: S1 E9, "Storytelling"

Into the Wolf: S1 E9, "Storytelling"

It is difficult to communicate information to an audience without putting that into a story. It is also difficult to have your story heard if you aren't aware of the stories that are already out there. Communication rarely happens in an uncluttered space, so we have to be aware not only of our own story that we are telling, but also of the stories that already exist. This podcast is meant to give some examples of how we can be better storytellers and understand how our stories fit within a bigger frame of reference.

Into the Wolf: S1E8, Situation vs. Character

Into the Wolf: S1E8, Situation vs. Character

Why do we have such a difficult time understanding how people receive us, and how can we give people better feedback on how they're behaving. It helps me to know that the way that we look at our own behaviors is fundamentally different than the way that we look at other people's. Everything that I do has a legitimate reason based on the situation I'm in, while everything that you do (from my perspective) looks like you just being you. The better we understand this conflict of perspective, the easier it is to understand why we struggle to understand each other and have a positive impact on each other.

Into the Wolf: S1E7 Impact versus Intention

Into the Wolf: S1E7 Impact versus Intention

"Nobody cares what you know unless they know that you care." -Teddy Roosevelt

In this episode I talk about the value of understanding the real differences between our intention and our impact in our communication. We often communicate with this assumption that everyone will (or should) understand our intentions and that our impact doesn't matter. The truth is that most of us care more about the impact we feel from our communication with others than we do about their intentions (or at least we like to assume we understand their intentions based upon the impact). The better we are at aligning our impact with our intentions, the more effective we are at communicating with clarity and trustworthiness.

Into the Wolf: S1E6 Speak your own truth

Into the Wolf: S1E6 Speak your own truth

What gets in the way of understanding each other? When we often talk about strategies and ideas it quickly devolves into a debate about "right and wrong" rather than a sharing of ideas. This is true whether it's about politics or where to go for dinner. In this podcast I talk about the importance of identifying what is an absolute (capital T) Truth and what is a personal (lowercase "t") truth. The better we are at owning what is our own personal truth (Peppermint ice cream is my favorite) rather than trying to make them absolute Truths (Peppermint ice cream is the only kind of ice cream worth eating), the easier it is to both share our perspective and influence others. This episode discusses vulnerability, clarity and owning your own truth, which can lead to better communication and greater collaboration.

Into the Wolf: S1E5 Self-trust versus Self-doubt

Into the Wolf: S1E5 Self-trust versus Self-doubt

"Self trust is the first secret to success." -Emerson

Have you ever felt like an imposter? If so, then you're in good company. I find that the leaders (and parents) who are most aware of themselves and the impact they have on others tend to be the ones who doubt themselves the most. The delusional people are the ones who never feel that pang of self-doubt or uncertainty. This doesn't, however, mean that we can't learn to trust ourselves more and quell that nagging feeling like we are failing in some intrinsic way. In this podcast I offer suggestions on how you can change your mindset and stop entertaining the illusion that you will ever be perfect (safe from failure) or that you don't actually belong (imposter syndrome). You are the only one of you that we've got, and we need you.

Into the Wolf: S1E4 Own your excellence.

Into the Wolf: S1E4 Own your excellence.

We live in a world that is often defined by what we do, but what we do does not automatically create trust in others. The more you are able to from a place of genuine humility, belonging and self-awareness, the easier it is for people to trust you and relate to you. In this podcast I talk about how you can communicate your value without feeling like you have to justify or prove your credibility. Own your own excellence.

Into the Wolf: S1E3 Build trust by creating more space.

Into the Wolf: S1E3 Build trust by creating more space.

How do we build more trust with a group or a team? How do we hold the room in such a way that people will listen and hear us and each other? The goal is to create enough space in the room for people to feel calm and engaged. This episode I will explain different ways that you can create more space in the room by noticing and releasing the tension in your own body. Breathe and release to create a calmer presence.

Into the Wolf: S1E2 Emotional awareness is the key to better communication

Into the Wolf: S1E2 Emotional awareness is the key to better communication

What do feelings have to do with our communication? What do they have to do with our presence? Turns out quite a lot, especially when we are unaware of what we feel. In this episode I offer ways for you to become more aware of what you are feeling in a given moment and how to translate that feeling into clearer communication. The greater your awareness is of your emotions, the easier it is to communicate clearly.

Into the Wolf: S1E1 - Communication is about connection

Into the Wolf: S1E1 - Communication is about connection

Everybody wants to be heard and understood, but there are so many things involved in communication that being heard and understood is nearly impossible. If we focus less on communicating a message and more on building a connection, we can improve the channel and therefore the relationship. The better the communication is, the better the relationship will be. The stronger the relationship, the easier it is to trust and understand each other. This podcast is an explanation of ways that you can improve your communication and your connection so that you can be heard and understood by your audience.
