Jason Martinez, FOX 29 Philadelphia Anchor - SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show

Jason Martinez, FOX 29 Philadelphia Anchor - SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show

On this episode of the SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show, Wayne Kimmel interviewed Jason Martinez, an Anchor at FOX 29 Philadelphia.

Martinez joined the FOX 29 News team in June 2019, as co-anchor of The FOX 29 News broadcasts weeknights at Five, Six, Ten and 11 p.m.

An Emmy Award-winning anchor/reporter, Martinez moved to Philly from San Diego, where he was the morning anchor at KGTV the prior four years. His experience there includes anchoring non-stop coverage of the devastating Lilac Fire, which destroyed more than 200 homes, the international border conflict, immigration issues and California’s cost of living crisis.

Prior to San Diego, Martinez spent five years as an anchor at WPLG in Miami, covering some of the wildest "only in Florida" stories of his career. He covered Presidential elections in the swing state, US-Cuba relations, fake plastic surgeons, a violent face-eating incident and two Miami Heat NBA championships.

Martinez's experience reporting in the field has taken him through floods, crime scenes, presidential elections, plane crashes, tornadoes, and hurricanes. In Fresno, CA, Martinez won an Emmy Award providing coverage for a devastating freeze that destroyed Central California's citrus crops. He also worked in Los Angeles, where he earned his fourth Emmy Award for team coverage of Michael Jackson's shocking death.

After graduating from Chapman University in Orange, California, Martinez began his career as a reporter at WTVG in Toledo, Ohio. There, he covered several major stories including the November 2002 outbreak of tornadoes, "The Big Blackout," and he interviewed a young high school kid named LeBron James, who was good at basketball.

Being a "Daddy" is Martinez's true love and he is the proud father of four children: Jagger, Carson, Angelina and John-Michael. He and his wife Lissette are involved in the "Live Like Bella Foundation," which benefits research to fight childhood cancer.

Just days after he was born, Martinez's son Carson nearly died after contracting a blood infection. His remarkable recovery motivated Martinez to get involved with causes that benefit Children's Hospitals across the country. He lost his grandfather to Alzheimer's disease, which is another cause near and dear to his heart. He has been a partner with the Alzheimer's Association for many years.

Martinez's other love is music. He has been a drummer since the age of four and has shared the stage with great musicians covering a variety of genres such as funk, country, jazz, Latin, R&B, soul and rock.

A former college baseball player, he is a sports fanatic who, as a kid, played travel baseball with former Phillies great Chase Utley. He is also an avid golfer who cannot seem to find the fairway.

Matt Foss - SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show

Matt Foss is former owner of two companies, CEO of a PE backed business and Division 1 football captain at Indiana University.

Foss understands the emotional and physical toll it takes to build something exceptional. He has experienced the highs and lows and thus many painful mistakes. Foss justified employing colleagues who were underperforming for longer than I should have, wrestled with my beliefs to ensure we made the Q4 shareholder targets, and been frustrated with my team because “HE” was unable to communicate a clear vision to execute on.

Foss knows that it doesn’t have to be this way. His mission is to show you that there is a better way to gain the traction you crave!

As a natural implementer, Foss has always brought people together in a way that puts the vision first. Once the vision is clear, forging a united team that prioritizes group success over individual acclaim is critical. To get traction, you must be able to have tough conversations with skill and grace because no one likes addressing complicated personnel problems. Foss is here to drive you to accomplish the hard work because entering the danger zone is where the big gains happen.

Foss is also a Strategic Partner to the SeventySix Capital Sports Advisory agency.

Angelo Cataldi - SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show

Angelo Cataldi - SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show

On this episode of the SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show, Wayne Kimmel's guest is Angelo Cataldi, former sports radio personality and author of Loud: How a Shy Nerd Came to Philadelphia and Turned Up the Volume in the Most Passionate Sports City in America. Cataldi's journey to the microphone began in 1977 with a pen as a writer for the Providence Journal and later for the Philadelphia Inquirer throughout the 1980s. Here, he had the privilege of crafting narratives that captured the essence of the games we all love. Fast forward to 1990, when a new chapter unfolded as Angelo took the reins as a talk show host on the iconic 94 WIP Sportsradio, a platform that would become his stage for the foreseeable future.

For over thirty years, Cataldi proudly occupied the airwaves as the unmistakable voice of 94 WIP Sportsradio, which ultimately shaped his identity as “Mr. Philadelphia’s Sports Talk Radio.” With a voice that could rattle the very foundations of Veterans Stadium and Lincoln Financial Field, he brought passionate discussions, expert analysis, and unfiltered opinions to the ears of countless listeners. It was during these broadcasts Angelo became a voice not just in the city but in the hearts of sports enthusiasts far and wide.

Outside the studio, Cataldi embraced his role as a husband and family man. Moving from the charming shores of Rhode Island, Angelo and his brood found a new home in the heart of Philadelphia. His journey has seen him through the highs and lows of life, including a divorce that reshaped his path and a remarriage that brought him a sense of completeness.

Cataldi is a true Philadelphia loyalist, passionately supporting all four of the city’s beloved sports teams. Although he could commandeer any press box, he often chose the comfort of his home, where Angelo watched more sports on TV than he attended in person. With a keen eye for the game and an insatiable appetite for the latest scores and strategies, Cataldi reveled in the thrill of competition from the comfort of his living room.
