Finding A New View
In this episode, Jeff and Bill work through 1st and 2nd Chronicles to bring us to the close of the Old Testament. Not Forsaken

Hope For The Hopeless
In this episode, Jeff and Bill tackle the book of Jeremiah. Often called the "weeping prophet", Jeremiah calls the Jewish people to repentance even though their capture and exile is eminent. As we read this text it is easy to get caught up in the despair and seeming hopelessness, but if we look closely we can see the hope and promise of redemption if only we too would repent and return to God.
As you are following along, if you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out to us at shadows@redeemercommunity.com.
Vanity and Love
In this episode, Jeff & Bill tackle Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs. As we consider the implications of the vanity’s impermanence and how to love our spouses well we should also look for shadows of Christ and the Gospel.
Songs and Wisdom
In this episode, Jeff and Jerica give us a brief overview of Psalms 1 & 2 and dive into the book of Proverbs.
What Do We Do With Job?
In this episode, Jeff welcomes Jerica Moore back to the conversation to discuss the book of Job. Amidst difficult-to-pronounce names you may find that Job is one of the toughest books to read because on the face it seems as though God is cruel for allowing everything to happen to Job. However, Jeff and Jerica try to help us zoom in and see how God is working in the midst of Job's, and even our, suffering.

Some Major Red Flags
In this episode, Jeff welcomes Jerica Moore, Brian Kane, and Carter Wine back to the conversation as we attempt to tackle the minor prophets. The prophets can often be some of the most confusing books of the Bible so we may skip over them. At this point in the text, we not only see the idolatry of the people of Israel but also their intense desire to build their own empire. Though the prophets proclaim impending judgement and destruction, let us not miss the hope of salvation for those who would repent and turn back to God.
Have We Lost the Plot
In this episode, Bill welcomes guest co-hosts Savanah Medlock and Ken Rock to the conversation. As we continue to make our way through, we must consider how often we are unfaithful to God. Not only do the prophets speak to the people of Israel, they speak to us calling us back from our idolatry to remember who God is and who He is making us to be.
Suffering Servants
In this episode, Jeff and Bill take us through the final part of the book of Isaiah. As one of the most quoted Old Testament scriptures in the New Testament, Isaiah plays a significant role in the teachings of Jesus and his followers, so you may find many familiar passages along the way.
Woes To The People
In this episode, Jeff and Bill take us through part 2 of 3 through the book of Isaiah. As one of the most quoted Old Testament scriptures in the New Testament, Isaiah plays a significant role in the teachings of Jesus and his followers, so you may find many familiar passages along the way.
"I Hate All Your Shows"
In this episode, Jeff and Bill take us through part 1 of 3 through the book of Isaiah. As one of the most quoted Old Testament scriptures in the New Testament, Isaiah plays a significant role in the teachings of Jesus and his followers, so you may find many familiar passages along the way. We hope that as you make your way through with us you find the unity of the text to be clearer.
Covenantal Idolaters
In this episode, Jeff and Bill explore the rise and fall of the kingdom of Israel. Throughout 1 & 2 Kings we begin to realize that Israel’s biggest problem is their unfaithfulness to God, they have forgotten the call to be set apart.
Wisdom and Division
In this episode, Jeff and Bill zoom in on the life and reign of King Solomon. Throughout his life we see great wisdom and great foolishness, the wisest, richest king by the end of his life corrupted by lure of power. After his death we witness the division of Israel, once one kingdom, now two divided.
A Man After God's Own Heart?
In this episode, Jeff and Bill explore the life of King David. As they walk through the text it may seem that David isn't quite better than Saul, and yet at the end of his life we are told that he was man after God's heart. How can it be so? That is one of the questions they will try to answer in the discussion while also linking David's life to that of Jesus.
Israel Wants A King
In this episode we find ourselves at the beginning of the “age of the kings” for Israel, which in many ways is a the beginning of an end. As Jeff and Bill walk us through this next section in the Bible, they stop along the way to point out where God is moving in the midst of a continuously rebellious people. In the midst of familiar stories, may we pause to look deeper at the Text and encounter God in new ways.
More Violence In The Story?
In this episode Jeff and Bill welcome Jerica Moore to the conversation as they discuss Judges and Ruth. Throughout Judges we see the cycle of Israel forsaking God, being captured by their enemies, crying out to God for help, and being rescued by a judge happen time after time. While the book closes with, "everyone did as they saw fit," we also see that God is still working in the midst of their betrayal. In Ruth, we are confronted with another example of the outsider being welcomed in to the family of God. As we continue to make our way through the Bible, let us pause to see where God continues to work in the most unlikely places and often through the most unlikely people.
The Conquest in Canaan
In this episode, Jeff invites Carter Wine from behind the camera to join the conversation. The book of Joshua offers one of the most popular children's stories, but when we peel the curtain back we are confronted with what seems like God condoning the mass slaughter of whole people groups. As we wrestle with questions like, "Is God a moral monster," may we pause to consider that there is more happening in the text than meets the eye. May we be a people who engage with the Bible literarily and not literally. As Jeff and Carter discuss this book, they acknowledge that there is no way to tie this book up with a bow but perhaps there is still something beautiful happening in the midst of so much violence.
More Laws to Follow?
In this episode, Jeff and Bill tackle the rest of Deuteronomy and setup the first 5 chapters of Joshua. They take time to explore what we would consider to be outrageous/outdated parts of the Law and show how we should respond to the message God is trying to teach the people about who they are and who He is. Then they set the stage for Joshua as we come face to face with the Israelites takeover of the Promised Land.
On the Cusp of the Promised Land
In this episode, Jeff and Bill discuss the first part of Deuteronomy as the Israelites have been wandering the desert for almost 40 years and are about to enter the Promised Land. However, one issue persists, they don't quite trust God and cannot enter the Promised Land without God.

You Can Take the Person Out of Egypt, But Can You Take Egypt Out of Them?
In this episode, Bill Jolley welcomes Brian Kane to join the conversation. As the story progresses from the marriage at Mt. Sinai one thing remains clear, while the Israelites have been physically taken out of Egypt, Egypt is still very much still inside of them. This becomes evident in the people's struggle to trust the God of Abraham by their rejection of Moses's leadership and the Law. However, with so much upheaval would we not respond in the same ways? The Torah invites us to enter the story and learn to trust God, so as we find shadows of Jesus may we also find the faith to trust a story that isn't finished yet.
A People Set Apart
In this episode, Jeff welcomes Leya Martinez as a guest host to wrap up Leviticus and begin Numbers. During their discussion they tackle questions about stoning, the principle of the Law, and the curses and blessings. We hope that you are challenged to think about the books of the Law in a different way as you process the implications for us today.
Becoming a Nation of Priests
At this point in the journey, the Jewish people have gone out into the desert and are now receiving the Law given to Moses so that they might become a nation of priests to bring God's blessing to all nations. In light of this, the question for Christians often becomes, "how is this relevant to me?" As Jeff and Bill lead our discussion they try to answer that very question by making connections between the sacrificial system and Christ's life, death, and resurrection.
The Marriage at Mt Sinai
In this episode Jeff and Bill review the last part of Exodus. Their discussion leads them through situations like Moses receiving the two tablets of the law, the golden calf, and even questions like, "does the Bible really condone slavery?" They also take time to look back through the text for any shadows of Jesus before setting up the last few chapters Exodus and the beginning of Leviticus.
If you have any questions, you can reach us at shadows@redeemercommunity.com.
Captives in Egypt
In this episode Jeff and Bill review the first part of Exodus. As they move through these chapters they zoom in on some key moments in the exodus story like the plagues and the hardening of Pharaoh's heart. They also take some time to point out hints of Jesus and to setup the last half of exodus as God and the Israelites go out to the desert to get to know each other.
The Patriarchs
In this episode, Jeff and Bill review the last half of Genesis where we meet the Patriarchs and confront some very confusing stories. Then they discuss some of the shadows of Jesus in these stories, and end by setting the stage for the book of Exodus.
