Discussing prison abolition often feels like an uphill battle, especially with people unfamiliar with the concept or unsure why criminals deserve empathy at all. The West Memphis 3 which stirred up controversy across the country when three teens were given life sentences based on confessions which did not match up with the evidence found at the crime. We discuss this case and how labelling this crime as an occult crime and using standard police interrogation techniques lead to convictions as opposed to finding the truth.

After mass shootings, our society starts to focus on criminals and what rights they should and should not have in efforts to prevent future tragedies. Today we discuss the question of what criminal means and what that term means when people use that term. We get into whether focusing on criminals is the best way to focus on prevention and other methods that might be helpful.

Does society need prisons to function? We discuss the history and some current alternatives to prison. We also share stories about the consequences of a "just lock 'em up" attitude and what we think might serve society better.
