Episode 114 | Think Like A Mind Reader | Guest: Jonathan Pritchard
This episode I speak with Jonathan Pritchard, International speaker/trainer focusing on the power of applied psychology in sales, negotiation, and beyond. 20+ years as a professional mind reader. Jonathan's words; I've entertained the troops stationed overseas, performed on Vegas main stages, appeared on national television, and checked off every box for success an entertainer could think of, but I still felt like something was missing. I realized I enjoyed talking with people after the show about how I'd found a way to make a living doing what I love, and helping them dream bigger in their own lives. These led to my first coaching clients, and ignited my passion to share what I know. That's when I decided to open the curtains and explain how the psychology I use on stage to get people think I can read minds is exactly the same psychology that drives effective communication, influence, negotiation, and sales. This led to the founding of my experiential design company "Hellstrom Group," writing the book "Think Like A Mind Reader" to help with the mental side, and establishing a martial art community to help with the physical. Born to a white mother and black father in Detroit in 1967, only weeks before the terrible race riots that brought a major city to its knees, the author was taken to a foster home and then adopted by a white minister and his wife, already the parents of three biological children. In this fascinating memoir, Hofmann reveals the difficulties and joys of being part of this family, particularly during a time and in a location where acceptance was tentative and emotions regarding race ran high and hot. Hofmann shares with readers the pressures and joys of being part of a family that navigated through tumultuous waters, and came out the victors in an old and oft-fought battle. Episode 82 | Choose Your Struggle | Guest: Jay Shiftman
This Episode I am joined by Host of Choose your struggle Podcast, Jay Shifman. We talk about addiction and Jay shares is personal story of his walk with addiction and the decision he made that changed his life. This show speaks to us all weather you have struggled or someone you may know such as a family member, a friend, spouse, parent we all have struggled with something and Jay's story may sound familiar to some of you. Tune in to grab some tools to add into your tool box to be able to help someone you know or yourself. Here are details about Jay in first person: I live by one mantra: Choose Your Struggle. For much of my early life, I was told that I was living with a debilitating issue of Mental Health. As my condition worsened, I was prescribed more drugs at ever higher doses until, in my early 20s, I was daily taking more than the estimated lethal dosage of one drug and abusing many others while living with a full-blown Substance Misuse Disorder thanks to prescription pills. At 23, after two suicide attempts, an overdose, and time spent in an inpatient hospital and a rehab facility, I decided enough was enough and pledged myself to withdraw from all of my prescriptions. My symptoms disappeared almost immediately. After entering recovery and rebuilding my life, I pledged myself to one mission: choosing my struggle. In a world where many don’t get a first chance, I realized just how lucky I was to get my second. I decided to dedicate my life to making a difference around the topics of Mental Health and Substance Misuse & Recovery. After years of having my struggle chosen for me—to simply make it through the day—I finally chose what to struggle for. Along the way, I have served in a variety of roles aimed at bettering the communities I’ve lived in. I’ve succeeded in increasingly elevated nonprofit fundraising roles, including Cincinnati Ballet and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and served as the Political Director for the bipartisan consulting organization MainStream Strategy. Additionally, I have written for publications including David’s Voice, New York Minute Magazine and Guy Talk. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, I live with my wife and dog on Daniel Island, South Carolina. A graduate of Northern Kentucky University with a B.A. in Psychology, I strive every day to end the stigma around the topics of Mental Health and Substance Misuse & Recovery by telling my story and helping others tell theirs. I have certifications in Psychological First Aid, Drug Policy and the Social Contexts of Mental Health and Illnesses, Suicide Prevention, and Coaching, among others. Additionally, I am the Founder and Principal Consultant at Ornelas Station Consulting. You can find my podcast, the Choose Your Struggle podcast, on Stitcher, iTunes, Castbox, Spotify, and wherever else you get your podcasts. Want to see more? Follow me at all my links today. Episode 77 | Not Created Equal | Guest: Mona Johnson
I have an authentic talk with Mona Johnson, who is an Arab Muslim-immigrant to the US and retired lieutenant colonel with the US Army. She is believed to be the first Arab Muslim-immigrant woman to serve in the United States Armed Forces. Born in Cairo, Egypt, Johnson and her family were exiled to Saudi Arabia before immigrating to the US in 1960. Acquiescing to a marriage to a Muslim man at a young age, she endured years of mental and physical abuse before escaping with her two daughters. She began her career with the US Army as a single parent before marrying again. She shares her story to educate younger generations on immigration and assimilation of Arab-immigrants into the fabric of modern America. Throughout her journey, she felt the brunt of discrimination and stereotyping from Eastern and Western cultures. Mona pursued a life of equality, even while hiding her religious heritage from the US Army. Mona lives with her husband Phil in South Bend, Indiana and is a devoted mother and grandmother. Learn more about Mona and her work at She is also author of "Not Created Equal: An Immigrant Muslim Woman’s Pursuit for Equality in her Family, the Army and America" follows a fearless quest to conquer Islamic stereotypes and bias in two cultures. If you like relentless determination, battling bigotry, and stories of unsung American heroes, then you’ll love Mona Johnson’s revealing memoir. She suffered domestic violence and cultural discrimination. Can she build a new life as a single mom and military officer? Mona Johnson dreamed of a world where a Muslim woman could be treated as an equal. After escaping a politically divided Egypt, she and her family lived in exile in Saudi Arabia before immigrating to the US in 1960. But assimilating into American culture was far from easy, as the values of her heritage clashed with her pursuit of being a modern feminist. Giving in to her mother’s wishes, she became trapped in a seven-year abusive marriage. Forced to endure reprehensible acts of mental and emotional abuse, to include physical attacks, she eventually escaped with her two daughters and with her father’s encouragement, began a career in the Army Nurse Corps. Defying years of prejudice and gender inequality, Johnson became one of the first immigrant Arab-Muslim women to serve in the US Armed Forces and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel. In this unflinching memoir, Johnson shares for the first time her heartbreaking and joyful journey. Drawing from her experiences as a single parent, army officer, and Muslim, she demonstrates incredible perseverance traversing Middle Eastern and Western societies. Website:

Episode 76 | Leave Your Light On | Guests: Shelley Buck & Kathy Curtis
This episode I spoke with Shelley Buck and Kathy Curtis, Co-authors of "Leave Your Light On". An incredible journey of love, courage and spirit is chronicled in “Leave Your Light On,” a new book by Shelley Buck about the life and death of her son Ryder, who co-authored the book posthumously through his writings. Ryder Buck is the son of Disney director Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and artist Shelley Buck. Ryder, a singer-songwriter, was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 at the age of 22. After undergoing surgery and extensive treatments he was cancer-free within eight months of his diagnosis. Six months after defeating cancer, at the age of 23, Ryder tragically died after getting hit by a car on a freeway after his car broke down. Chris Buck dedicated his 2014 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature for “Frozen” to Ryder’s memory. Ryder was an inspiration for the song “The Next Right Thing” from “Frozen 2” and the film’s character, Ryder Nattura, was named after him. The Disney+ series “Into the Unknown: The Making of Frozen 2” features a segment about Ryder. “Shelley has done an extraordinary job capturing the impact Ryder had on us and the world during his short life,” said Chris Buck. “Ryder was the type of person who inspired others to be and do their best and he was such a gift to us in so many ways.” “Leave Your Light On” is the story of how Ryder adapted to life after learning he had cancer and how that inspired him and changed his relationship with his parents and the world around him. Told through first person accounts, recollections from friends and family and Ryder’s own words from his journals and social media posts, the book shows a parent-child relationship challenged by an unrelenting illness and a young man’s determination to live life on his own terms. The book was co-written with writer Kathy Curtis, with the title coming from a song written by Ryder about maintaining a positive attitude. “His legacy lives on through this story, which I hope will inspire many people who are faced with the difficulty of hearing and processing bad news,” said Shelley Buck. “We can’t always change what happens to us, but we can choose how we respond to it.” Ryder was a young man with an unstoppable dream to lift people up through his music. While cancer should have beaten him, Ryder rose above it all to live from a place of passion. In this uplifting and powerful story, readers will meet an unforgettable person determined to accept his own quirks and flaws with humor and see a parent-child relationship tested by an unrelenting disease followed by the grief of an entire family. Episode 33 | Stand Up and Claim Some Space | Guest: Eliza Vancort
Eliza VanCort, CEO | Mother | Speaker | Communicator | Belly Laugher. WHAT I DO I own a communication consulting firm, VanCort Consulting I reached out to Eliza VanCort some weeks ago to talk about her book, Titled A Woman's Guide to Claiming Space. Our conversation lead into a deep talk about many of the issues we face today in America. This episode was recorded prior to the recent protests around police violence and killing(s) that have been taking place.  These are the authentic conversations we need more of and are often times not willing to be heard by everyone on all sides. We can all agree change needs to happen, Change is happening slowly and is going to take everyone shedding old beliefs and understanding true humanity.    In a spiritual reality we are all connected, race does not play a factor.  It is my hope that you listen with an open mind, willing to understand and process the information. When we come from a place of EGO it becomes difficult to relate to others. Growth in 2020, it is time to challenge your old beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. Divided we fall, but together we can stand tall.  The U-N-I-T-E-D states, think about that for a moment, United! it does not state only if you are a certain race.   We hear so much about the history of the country, Do more research, do you own research go way back, as far back as you need to to help paint the picture. Thank you, Shanta G.  Please see below for information on Eliza Vancort LINKS & WEBSITES:  Here is the "Make America Better. Now” link, just to make it easy.
