Ep. 14: Habits vs Addictions
"You gotta grow through what you go through." - Giselle Perata
We wanted to try something new on this week's episode of the Fire Round and bring in a co-host. I've received a few requests to have a co-host on my Fire Rounds so you ask and you shall receive!
This week I had the honor of having my girlfriend (and quarantine partner), Giselle Perata. And we got into the topic of habits and addictions.
What Giselle researched and shared with us was so valuable!
Let's be honest...
We all have habits and addictions.
We have some good habits, and some bad habits. We probably have more bad habits than we'd like to admit.
Then, we have addictions. Do we all have addictions? Do we have good and bad addictions the same way we do our habits?
We cover that and a few other questions on this Fire Round, like:
- What is the difference between a Habit and an Addiction?
- Can we control our habits and addictions?
- We also share a few easy, quick tips to add good and remove bad habits out of your life, TODAY!

Ep. 13: Unlock Your Kid's True Sports Potential
Did you know...?
1) 20 million youth participate in sports every year?
2) 70% of youth will drop out of sports before middle school?
3) And, the average family spends $350 per month on youth sports activities?
WOW... let that soak in for a second...
When I hear those stats the first thing that comes to my mind is, that's A LOT of kids lol, and kids REALLY like to play sports. They want to be active.
Then, when you hear 70% drop out BEFORE middle school!? When I hear that, it breaks my heart. That's too young for a child's dreams to get shattered.
Parents want nothing more than for their children to become the best version of themselves and have the best experience possible while doing it. Amiright!?
But, for some reason there's a big disconnect here. If so many of our youth want to play sports, but drop out so young they must not be getting the best experience, the best environment, the best quality of coaching, the best chance of learning possible.
Yet, at the same time parents are willing to do whatever it takes to give their children the best chance of all of the above. So how do we bridge that gap?
Maybe a better question, how do we expose parents and coaches to the proper guidance and step-by-step action plans so they can give their children the best chance at unlocking their true sports potential?
That my friends, is why I'm so excited to share with you the FitKidApp. And the beautiful people behind it, my two good friends, Dee and Sangeeta Bhatia.
Dee and Sangeeta have been married for 14 years and parents of two, Dee and Sangeeta have always put family first. They have now started a journey to better the experience of youth sports and fitness for your family.
The FitKidApp is a project that brings awareness and education of sports techniques to your home.
They want to help you "unlock your kid's true sports potential."

Ep. 12: Our New Normal | Fire Round
We, here at Well-Fit are not taking this pandemic lightly and neither should you. Let’s be honest, we’re going to be at-home for quite some time. There’s never been a better time to prioritize your goals, try new things, get active, unwind, eat well, and have some fun with the people you live with.
Let’s keep it really simple, it’s pretty binary. You can either over-analyze what you think is ‘going’ to happen in the future and live in fear. Analysis by paralysis. Which ultimately can be our largest obstacle of all. Especially since the outcome and timeline is completely out of our control.
Or, you can stop thinking and just go with the flow based on your environment and circumstances. Play the best hand with the cards you're dealt. Accept, embrace, strategize, create and innovate. Develop a healthy, structured, well-rounded routine you want to follow to that of which if you follow it you’ll have accomplished what it is you set out to achieve.
Now, let’s discuss what one person needs to incorporate into their daily at-home schedule in order to achieve the staples to one’s health and fitness.

Ep. 11: Hungry 4 Success with Jon Combs
“If you give up once, it can become a habit.” - Jon Combs
Being born in Puerto Rico, father going to prison when he was in 3rd grade, mother working multiple jobs, and Jon having to help raise his brother he had to grow up quick. Jon learned how to figure it out. As he likes to call it, FITFO.
He learned to be independent early on, he is self-aware, knows who he is and want he wants out of life. He also seems to have a clear understanding of his true purpose on this planet. Which is mentoring and coaching our youth through health, fitness and sports. Jon has entrepreneurship in his DNA. And his head is down, he’s working hard and continuing to remain humble.
Jon is a former multi-sport high-level athlete, collegiate baseball player, even went semi-pro. Having to decide between continuing his dream to go pro or taking care of his grandma he chose the latter and hung up the cleats to focus on his career.
This was when he came to work with me. He was my top personal trainer/sports performance coach when we had our old gym (Total Performance Fitness Training Center). I've known Jon since he was a junior in high school. He always had something special about him. I knew he was going to go on and accomplish so many amazing things.
Jon now owns and operates Hungry 4 Success Athletics based out of Tracy, Ca. Which is a 6,400 square foot gym. It specializes in the following:
- Youth performance coaching
- Youth and adult nutrition and fitness programming, and
- Mindset coaching on how to become your best self
Jon came from nothing and is now on the rise to building a fitness empire. And today, he explains exactly how he got there.

Ep. 10: 4 Ways to Be Calm, Prepared and Win During Crisis | Fire Round
Please make smart decisions, refrain from going out in large groups, and exposing yourself to the risks. I know this is a time of uncertainty, concern, and fear. We aren’t sure when this Coronavirus pandemic will come to an end and we will all be able to get back to our “normal” lives.
So, until then, how do we leverage this current obstacle to where it moves us forward? How do we win in the weak moments? How to we look at this as an opportunity to grow, innovate and get better opposed to the glass being half empty?
“Where you get your hope from is from changing your behaviors” - Margaret Rutherford
I’m sure you’re asking, “so how do I change my behaviors?” Right?
Well, if you’re currently living scared, fearful and anxious right now then this message is going to be super powerful for you. Even if you feel you have it all together I feel you can gain something from this message today as well.
Your thoughts become words, your words become actions, your actions dictate your behaviors. So, let’s change our thoughts which ultimately will change our behaviors. When we change our behaviors we change our environment. This changes our hormones, our stress levels and our overall mental and physical well-being. What you think can and will affect your physical state. Not just mental.
This approach allows us to develop this sense of strength and hope we didn’t know existed. This is where hope stems from! This is how we change behavior!
Now, let’s discuss the four ways to be calm, prepared and win during crisis...
I hope you enjoy this episode

In this episode of our Fire Round we dive deep into some gold that can possibly help you finally unlock that friction and begin to create an everlasting healthy relationship with yourself, your health and your nutrition.
“One must eat to live. Not live to eat.” - Moliere
Do you think about food non stop? Do you always want something sweet and salty? Or crave pizza 24/7? Or do you look at food as fuel? And just energy I must consume in order to achieve my daily goals? Is that more like you?
I'm curious to hear, please leave a comment on my latest Instagram post and let me know which type of relationship you have with nutrition.
Show Notes
1. More gyms, yet higher obesity rates (where’s the hands-on nutrition component?)
2. What you want right now you want more than what you want tomorrow
3. What’s the latest food fad you’ve tried?
4. Most fads don’t work because they’re not realistic

7. What are your specific nutrition goals? - For health purposes? - For vanity? (burn fat, build muscle, body recomp?) - For performance? (marathons, cyclists, sports athlete, competitor, etc.)
8. You need your nutrition to align with your mission. If your nutrition doesn’t align with your mission you’ll never achieve your ultimate goals. So, what’s your mission? What are you striving for? Base your nutritional needs on that.

Ep. 7: Look Where You’re Going | Fire Round
Ep. 6: Inside the Mind of a Full-Time Bodybuilder with Dave Nunes
“They don’t want it bad enough”
“Back in the day, when I competed everyone brought it. This wasn’t a pageant like it is today. Everyone on stage brought their best.”
If anyone has stayed true to himself since the beginning, it’s Full-Time Bodybuilder (and my father) Dave Nunes. Dave got his nickname “Full-Time Bodybuilder” from former 4x Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler. He and Jay became good buddies after my dad asked for Jay to make an appearance at his grand opening for his latest gym, Ironworks Gym in Tracy, Ca. My dad is now one of the only businesses to stock Cutler Nutrition supplements. My dad was given this name, because he’s been in the industry his entire life, everything he does has to do with bodybuilding, and running his gym.
Hit feats include having amazing kids 😉, to winning first place in multiple car shows and bodybuilding competitions, opening a fitness franchise, to visualizing and creating his very own hometown family gym with his son, me. It was truly the dream come true.
We started with his childhood, and how he ended up being raised by his grandparents. To moving away from his hometown while in the prime of high school, to how he had to learn all instrument music notes even though he only played the drums. He always had to be in something to keep him focused and give him purpose. Something he goes into talking about was his early-life depression. He went from being so passionate about cars and car shows, to playing the drums in front of large crowds, to not knowing what he wants to do with the rest of his life. He just had his son, didn’t like his job, didn’t know what he wanted to do, didn’t have a plan nor any idea of what he was going to do.
He says he got his responsible work ethic from within. Nobody taught him that diligence and responsibility leads to success. Sometimes you don’t have to be taught something to learn what’s right and what’s wrong.
I had the incredible opportunity to be raised by this man who showed me what passion, dedication, hard work and commitment was all about. If you listened to Episode 1 you heard how I was raised. My living room was a weight room!
In this episode my dad talks about the day he went in to Gold’s Gym to buy a tank top, that was the day he met his first professional bodybuilder, Scott Wilson. He quickly became intrigued with getting big, training like the pros and transforming his body with the “training” mentality where all he did was talk about lifting, talked about sets, reps and what to do during your rest time. All the way to bringing a bucket on leg day. Because they planned on pushing themselves so hard they puked. Talk about “old school” right?
He went on to compete in numerous bodybuilding competitions and by the last show he knew he wanted to open his own gym. But reality kicked in and he realized he didn’t have the funds. But he told himself, “before I die I’m going to own a gym.” And that’s exactly what he did. All this and so much more on this episode of Inside the Mind of a Full-Time Bodybuilder, with Dave Nunes.
Thank you so much for listening.

Ep. 3: If Not You, Who? If Not Now, When?
We have this “victim” mentality. It’s never our fault. It’s the cards we were dealt. We like to point the finger out rather than point it in.
If we can’t begin taking responsibility for where we are in our lives then we’ll never get where we ultimately want to go.
My friends, in this episode we dive deep into the top three reasons we don’t take the action. Fear, Homeostasis, and Execution.
For some reason, we like to put obstacles in our way rather than move them out of the way. We like to stay comfortable. We like to take the easy route. Even though we know that if we challenge ourself and push ourself we will achieve our goals, for some reason there’s still something stopping us from taking action. From a scientific perspective but also from a wiring perspective. Once we begin to understand that when we intentionally push ourselves further than we did yesterday, once we understand that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself, once we understand that taking the first step is the first step...that is when the magic happens. That is when your life begins to change. That is when you start to become the person you ultimately know you can become.
Let’s stop waiting for someone else to inspire us. Let’s inspire ourselves. Nobody will pull you out of bed, you have to do it yourself. Nobody will care for you as much as you will care for yourself. But you have to be willing to face your fears, you have to be willing to step outside your comfort zone, and lastly you must overcome paralysis by analysis and throw your excuses out the window. And just simply TAKE ACTION.
Who cares what other people say. What you do say?
If you don’t do it, who will? If you don’t do it right now, when will you? Make today the day.
Thank you so much for listening, please be sure to subscribe, leave a rating and comment if you feel pulled to doing so.
Be kind to yourself, have amnesia and let’s start with a clean slate. Because each day we you awake, is another chance to change someone’s life. Why not make it yours?
