E43 | Seeking First the Kingdom

E43 | Seeking First the Kingdom

We reach the climax of our week today with the final episode of the 5 in 5: Seeking first the kingdom of God.

Seeking first the Kingdom of God is this: rightly prioritizing, longing for, and desiring oneness with the kingdom of God and coming into agreement with His standard of righteousness.

It is to seek after these things so much so, that you become them.

It is being chiefly concerned with seeking His mind, His will, His way.

What is one way that we can do this?  By elevating His purposes above our own. Our earthly pursuits should not overshadow our highest purpose of seeking first the kingdom of God.

When we seek God's kingdom and righteousness in sincerity and truth, we can rest knowing that we will be graciously rewarded by God as He in turn provides for our natural and basic needs.

Scriptures:

Acts 4:12

1 Kings 3:1-14

Matthew 6:33

John 3:16

In this episode:

- A word of caution about becoming passive about the things of God or time spent in the Word.

- What "having a heart after God's own heart" looks like.

- King Solomon's example of seeking first the kingdom of God and all things being graciously added to him by God as a result.

It's a Wrap!

Well, we did it again!

I hope you found great value in the 5 in 5 this year.

Continue to feast on what the Lord is saying. May your mind be sober, your heart soft, and your feet planted as you seek first the kingdom of God this year.

E42 | Forsaking in Order to Win

E42 | Forsaking in Order to Win

The first strategy Believers will need to implement is forsaking in order to win.

What do we need to forsake?

Sin, distractions, mindsets, and attitudes that exalt themselves against the knowledge of Christ. The list goes on.

Forsaking in order to win is putting off the old self (and all its branches) in order to put on the new self who is mirrored after Christ.

Do you really want to win?

Do you desire to hear the Lord say "well done"?

In episode 42 - Forsaking in Order to Win - I pray for you and give you practical steps on how to create a "forsake" list and things to consider when doing so.

E41 - Not for Nothing

E41 - Not for Nothing

The Free Dictionary defines the term “Not for nothing” as “for a specific or worthy reason.

Each avenue that we have taken in years past and that we will take this year are for a specific or worthy reason.

If we apply the 3 key ingredients from episode 40, then we know that our feet are not only planted, but our steps are ordered.

Thus, we can rest assured that our doings and experiences are not for nothing.

Each chapter of our lives - yes, even the trials - serve a worthy purpose.

All the mundane serving is for a worthy reason.

And perhaps, when you have felt the lowest, or the least seen by God, a transformation has taken place deep within your soul.

There isn’t a second wasted with God. Don’t grow weary in well doing despite the outcomes - and be careful not to get stuck on the outcomes.

One day it will be revealed that things that were tedious, painful, or even unnoticed were not for nothing.

Scripture:

Galatians 6:9

E38 | Unpacking Comparison with Shanna Ream (pt. 2)

E38 | Unpacking Comparison with Shanna Ream (pt. 2)

Unpacking Comparison (pt. 2)

The Bible makes it pretty clear that to compare is to demonstrate a lack of understanding. As we compare to the standards and ideals we assign to others, we at the same time lessen our own value and take our gaze off of the only standard - Christ Jesus.

Today, Special Guest & Blogger - Shanna Ream - thoughtfully guides listeners through hearty scripture and reminds us to stay true to the calling placed on our lives and the importance of staying in our own lanes as we move toward freedom from the web of comparison.

Shanna is a Christian, wife and mother of 3. She has a passion for encouraging others in their walk with Christ, sharing practical advice all the while keeping the focus on the One who deserves it. In addition to blogging, she enjoys graphic design, hand lettering, and singing. You can normally find her curled up on the couch with her family, with coffee in one hand, and a good book in the other.

In this episode:

  • Understanding our spheres of ministry and what happens when we step outside of that sphere.
  • Focusing on our own glory rather than giving God the glory.
  • Factors that weaken and dilute our purpose.
  • Indicators to look for when determining if you may be headed for the comparison trap.
  • Contentment as a means of countering comparison.
  • Deeply understanding the intrinsic value and differing currencies that God placed on each of us.
  • Other struggles that the practice of comparison leads to like pride, envy, and more.
  • Asking this sobering question when we're drawn to what others have going on that Christ Himself asked: “What is that to you?”
  • 5 steps that you can take toward overcoming and healing from comparison.

E37 | Unpacking Your Pain Story

E37 | Unpacking Your Pain Story

In episode 37, Hannah shares her personal narrative and insights into the transformative power of acknowledging and unpacking our pain. Have you ever thought that it was possible to not only survive but to flourish in the presence of suffering?

Today we explore the significance in unpacking our pain story, the value of community as we unpack pain, and the myth that we won’t or shouldn’t feel pain as followers of Christ.

There is danger in not feeling pain (or aspiring to not feel it). Consequently, we dismiss our struggles and “church” them away or “Bible verse” them away so that we can look and feel the part of a Believer.

This is a disservice to us, as we never experience the Dunamis power of God’s transformation. Unpacking pain requires letting Christ into our mess and others.

Quotes to Remember:

“Tragedy does not go away because you walk with the Lord, and sometimes it can actually intensify.”

“Though Jesus was on their ship, they felt the shaking.”

“Our pain can create such a smokescreen that can oppress, depress, numb us, and throw us off course.”

“The plight of the Believer is that they have hope.”

“In order for Him [Jesus] to come into their messes and bring about healing, the mess had to be revealed.”

“It is through the Dunamis power that all things become possible.”

Scriptures:

I Peter 4:12-13

Revelation 12:11

2 Corinthians 11:24

Psalm 133

Proverbs 17:17

34 | Best of the Best Rerun Pt. 2 (Our Healing is Activated by the Blood of Jesus

34 | Best of the Best Rerun Pt. 2 (Our Healing is Activated by the Blood of Jesus

Many of you grew up hearing people around you pleading the blood of Jesus.

Maybe this happened during a prayer for protection or even physical healing.

As a lover of old hymns, when I think about the blood of Jesus, I instantly start hearing this sweet song:

What can wash away my sins?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Beloved Sister, it was the shedding of this blood that changed our trajectory. Because of the sinless blood of Christ and His sacrifice for you and I and ALL mankind, we have a tremendous hope.

Sin doesn't grip us anymore and through His spilling of His blood in our place, we ARE HEALED. Not only from physical ailments, but from mental anguish, oppression, distress and every other creeping emotional and mental sentence.

Today's episode, Our Healing is Activated by the Blood of Jesus, is an encouraging reminder of just that. We talked a little about who Jesus is, His Deity and authority to cleanse sin, and the countless ways that the blood operates. We also talked about the healing in His blood, and why blood.

E33 | Best of the Best Rerun (Understanding Who God Is)

With summer in full-swing, we are going down memory lane on the show! During the months of July and August, we will be highlighting the most popular episodes before the kickoff to season 4 in September!

Today's "Best of the Best" rerun is episode 003 "Laying Foundations: Understanding Who God Is".

Hannah admonishes listeners to become students of the Word, become aware of God’s conditions for His people, and of the dangers that lurk when we are ignorant to who God is and what He says in His Word about our lives/circumstances.

One of the things that happens when we begin this journey of knowing God and his nature and who He is, is that we begin to understand the load we are intended to carry vs. the load meant for God to carry.

E32 | Fatherless No More

Today's episode is a lifeline to a special audience: Fatherless Daughters.

As many celebrate the men who have played a phenomenal role in their existence and who they've come to be, we hold space for those women who may not share such sentiments and experiences.

In a rare occurrence, Hannah pulls back the curtain and shares with listeners her journey as a fatherless daughter. As she tells her story, she concludes episode 32 with 3 life-giving steps that other fatherless daughters can consider as they work toward processing, healing, and moving forward in their stories. Something good can still come out of your story!

In this episode:

- The far reaching impact of fatherlessness in the United States and on girls and women

- Hannah's journey from pain, confusion, and resentment toward her father, to restoration, acceptance, and forgiveness

- Forgiving when the other person can't or won't take accountability

- Bondage, Rejection, and the Spirit of Adoption

- When elevating our parents becomes toxic

E30 | Marinating in the Wait w/ Karen Mejeur

I am thrilled to, for the first time in "She's Marked Podcast" history, host guest interviews.

You're in for a wellspring of wisdom as 3 of our featured "For the Moms" women are joining me here on the podcast. These talks aren't simply limited to motherhood. We touch on marriage, forgiveness, singleness, surrender, simplifying, and SO much more.

May is the month for nourishing, equipping and stirring Mothers. Tune in several ways to fill your cup all month long: She's Marked Podcast, The Marked Life Blog, The MRKD Store and enjoy a special tribute poem to Moms over on Youtube.

Joining me today to talk about marinating in the wait is Karen Mejeur. Karen - who is from Cape Cod - has been married for 17 years and has 2 boys, ages 15 and 14. God has poured so much into her through the years that she believes now is her time to be able to give back by pouring into others.

Moms pour out all they are and all they have for their children, and they need someone to come alongside them to refresh, encourage, and build them up. Karen feels that the Lord has called her to be a mom to moms (#themomsmom).

If she can help moms be emotionally healthy and strong, then she will be impacting their homes, their children, and their husbands. She believes healthy moms raise healthy children. Karen's Coaching Program, "A 90 Day Guide on How to bring Transformation to your Family and Revitalize your Life", empowers overwhelmed Moms who deal with constant demands to prioritize themselves so they can be the superwoman their family expects them to be. She helps them learn to maintain peace in the midst of chaos and stress, better manage their time, and find purpose in the mundane.

In this episode, Karen shares on:

- Waiting on the Lord for His perfect timing

- The willingness to put off our desires for God's best

- Healed moms birthing healed homes

- Life as an "old" mom

- Victoriously healing from the pain of your past

E28 - The Tragic Absence of a Village (Motherhood Edition)

E28 - The Tragic Absence of a Village (Motherhood Edition)

The old African proverb may have been directed at children, but the tragic absence of a village is fraying Moms.

It takes a village to raise a child, but all too often, many mothers and fathers are swirling to take on multiple roles in their children's lives, with little support.

This is leaving Mothers - who are often the main caretakers - burnt out and stretched thin.

Hannah shares an insightful article from Mother.ly regarding the absence of the village and shares some of what she learned about the severe impact that the absence of a village is having on today's Moms.

More in this Episode:

- Tips on how mothers can establish their village

- The benefit and power in numbers and community

- Practical ways that we can offer support to the mothers around us

- For the Moms annual blog series

- and MORE!

E27 - Holding Fast to What You have

E27 - Holding Fast to What You have

When was the last time you counted your trials as joy?

A life with Christ doesn't mean a life void of troubles. We have to keep our aim in view, holding fast to what we have; our confession of faith, our righteousness, and being steadfast. The issues we encounter- though intense - are temporary. Hold on and don't lose your inheritance and who you were called to be!

It is so easy in a moment to feel the pull of wanting to tackle issues head on and fix things, prove your point, and defend your stance. In the midst of this, you can be swept up in anger, offense, confusion, entanglements, lusts, pursuits, and so much more. Especially when others don't respond the way that you expected or hoped for, or even needed. The injustices of life can shake you and really pull you out of character. The natural exhaustion that comes from all of our toil can make it a task to remain in Godly character and in mindset.

It is critical to have an accurate depiction of what the life of the Believer will look like here on earth. Scripture forewarns of the many tribulations before entering the Kingdom of Heaven. However, blessed is the one who stays steadfast and remains. If they pass the test, they will receive the crown of life.

Listen in to Episode 27 as Hannah goes deeper on this topic, what we should be holding fast to, and how to keep our aim in view.

E26- But I thought I was Healed?

E26- But I thought I was Healed?

Not too many people would list "brokenness" and "neediness" as attributes that attract or draw them to people.

However, we see in the Word, that Christ Himself said He came for these people. Those who were sick, broken, and oppressed.

Maybe God has healed you from brokenness, but you’ve found yourself on a downward slope, unsure of what is happening in this season or if you will ever come back.

Are these troubled times making you worry that you may never be healed at all?

Today, these 2 truths are highlighted:

  1. Everyone who is in Christ is a new creature.
  2. He is looking on you with compassion.

Remember, healing is a process, and after the healing must come the “filling”.

Tune in to episode 26 now:

  • Red flags of rebellion
  • Paying attention to areas of resurfacing pain and what to do when this happens.
  • How our stumbling reminds us of our need for Christ.
  • Ways that the enemy tries to defeat us when we are in the pit and how to overcome.
  • Christ is acquainted with our sorrows.

Quotes to Remember:

“Don’t let the enemy make you stumble in condemnation or rebellion."

“While you may be hiding from the Lord, consider that perhaps He is looking on you with compassion rather than judgment.”

“Even when the Lord has healed us, there is re-learning and reconditioning that has to occur.”

E25 - In Christ Alone

E25 - In Christ Alone

We conclude the "5 in 5" week with Episode 25: In Christ Alone

Our hope, our redemption, and our purpose is found in Christ alone.

We surf through deep waters today with deep questions of our future, our mortality, and our salvation.

Life is certainly a vapor, and we are all on borrowed time. So, what are you doing that will last?

What are we doing? What are we building? What are we aiming for?

In episode 25, Listeners are charged to build their treasure in Heaven. For those who may not know how to do that, it starts with understanding that we are all born of a sin nature. We can never measure up or live up to all of God's laws and righteous standards in this state, hence our great need for a Savior. Without this Savior - Jesus Christ - and His shed blood, we remain guilty and unreconciled to God.

This newness of life, hope, and power is found in Christ alone

Quotes

"I'd rather not feel good and at least know that I have the truth, than to be warmed and fuzzied and accepted...in a total state of deception and lies."

"There is no other god, no other esteemed person, name or prophet, that walked the face of the earth, that is not still in the grave. Jesus Christ is the only one who rose from the grave."

"While you work here on earth with your hands and your mind, with your skills and your strengths, never lose sight of your eternal destination."

E24 - A Lesson from Nature about Maturity?

E24 - A Lesson from Nature about Maturity?

I unexpectedly learned a lesson from nature about maturity.

It began when I researched trees and learned that there are two types of trees; evergreens and deciduous trees.

"D-what"?

I then learned what this interesting word means, and the definition was even more capturing than the word itself.

Are you ready? Deciduous literally means "falling off at maturity".

So, you're telling me that in the Spring when the tree's leaves seem to be coming to life and fast forward to the Summer when they are full and lush isn't actually when they have matured?

What world have I been living in for nearly 38 years? Surely, I've been fooled!

The leaves are mature when they basically die and fall off. I can't lie, this lesson from nature intrigued me. Can you sense where I am going with this lesson when I think of maturity in the realm of God's Kingdom and in the spirit?

As I went about my search, I happened upon this quote by John Bevere:

"Physical Maturity is bound to time. Spiritual Maturity is bound to obedience".

Obedience is a type of death. It's death of pride, selfish ambition and intentions/initiatives. It is a surrendering. a foregoing of your own directives and leadership. Oh, how profound, that as we surrender, as we die, as we lose our lives in obedience to the will of God, we live, we mature.

How are you growing?
How are you maturing?

This also sheds light on the fact that you can be in the faith for years and years and still be immature due to perpetual and chronic disobedience. You can be forfeiting your deciduous moment. Failing to mature.

Tune in to Episode 24 as we dig more into this lesson from nature and how to mature in our walk.

Quotes to Remember:

"As we mature, there is a shedding that has to take place. And, as that shedding takes place (with our obedience) we begin to die to our flesh nature, we begin to die to our own leadership and governance and become strengthened."

"What is it that needs to die in your life in order for you to reach full maturity?"

James 1:22
Hebrews 12:5-14
James 1:2-4

E23 - Will Your Anchor Hold? Staying Grounded with Life Verses

E23 - Will Your Anchor Hold? Staying Grounded with Life Verses

What comes to your mind when you hear the word "anchor"?

I usually think of water, boats, and ships.

Secondly, I think of grounding, security, and weight.

I think of attachment and protection and safety.

I think of immovability.

I also think of storms and severe weather.

Anchors essentially keep vessels from going adrift. How the anchor is crafted and where it's planted play significant roles in the outcome of that vessel too.

Some anchors are crafted to claw in or dig into the bed of the water. Some are extremely heavy and due to that heaviness, they keep the vessel in place.

Why are anchors used in the first place? To keep a vessel in one place, and to combat strong wind and currents that want to move the vessel from its place.

Today we explore the depth and weight of our "anchors". With this in mind:

How firm is your faith?

How deeply rooted are you in preparation for the future winds of life that are guaranteed to hit?

Are you digesting the Word of God, allowing it to transform you and build you?

One such way to strengthen and anchor our souls is through cleaving to life verses.

Listen in to find out:

- What a life verse is
- Why you need one
- And, how it can cement you and breathe life into your spirit.

*You won't want to miss the prayer toward the middle of the episode. I'll honestly be listening to this entire episode a couple of times to encourage myself.

Quotes to Remember:

"This is a different type of scripture that you will choose to rest on. That is what a life verse is."

"Sometimes God doesn't answer the prayer, but He gives us the grace to go through it."

"God is sovereign. It's up to Him whether He answers our prayers and how He answers our prayers."

"Lord, if it be Your will that I continue to walk through this fire, would you dear Lord give me the grace to endure?"

"God even wins when it seems that satan is victorious."

"We don't want to forfeit the work of the Kingdom. Our life is kingdom work. We are about our Father's business."

"Saturate, equip, and prepare yourself through the Word of God."

Scripture References:

Hebrews 6:19

2 Corinthians 12:9

Hebrews 4:12

E20 - Jesus Peace

E20 - Jesus Peace

2022 is a wrap!

Has this year simply pummeled you with grief? Disappointment? Loneliness and Isolation?

Have you frantically been searching for deep peace through external factors like finances, therapy, health and fitness, or relationships?

Do you feel unseen or maybe even misunderstood or heard as a result of your past and all that you’ve been through? Do you desperately long for acceptance and embrace?

Throughout scripture we see God’s promise of peace; peace that can’t be shaken through:

  • Rightful reconciliation to Him
  • Harmony of relationship with him
  • The promise of the blessed hope that is to come in Him

Today, Hannah shares her heart on the unshakeable, incomparable peace that flows from being known by and reconciled to God, and standing in right covenant with Him through Christ.

Listen in and learn how to walk in the peace of Christ our Mighty Counselor and have a lasting peace that can be neither shaken, nor broken.

You won’t want to miss this episode filled with comfort and insight.

Here are some highlights:

  • The Lord Jesus was there through the rough terrain that we experienced in 2022 and throughout our lives.
  • The peace that He leaves with us makes us complete, and cannot be stolen, broken, or taken.
  • We are able to have this peace despite the curveballs of life.
  • God knew us before we were formed in the womb - He doesn’t need to get to know us.
  • It is the Lord carrying us through storms - oftentimes without us realizing it.
  • Following God’s commands brings about safety and peace.
  • The significance and beauty of being deeply known by God and the peace that it brings.
  • Your life story needs no recapping or retelling. Christ was there during every event that impacted you.

  • The compacted heart and the barriers it creates in being known by others.
  • The biblical definition of true “shalom” and its boundless impact

Quotes to Remember:

“He was there when you were overlooked, cheated on, lied on, forgotten. Jesus was there.”

“With just one word, you can be made whole and you can receive peace from Yeshua the Messiah.”

“When we follow His commands, our peace multiplies.”

“When we abide and dwell in the secret place of the Most High, we abide in a perpetual state of peace.”

“The peace that comes from above does not fluctuate or waver based on what is happening around us.”

“The peace that comes from Christ and Christ alone is something that is deeply rooted even when we are uprooted.”

“The peace of knowing Christ and being known by Him transcends all your nuances.”

“Your life story needs no recapping or retelling. You never have to fill out a getting-to-know-you intake form. Jesus was there.”

E019 - When You're Feeling Discouraged

E019 - When You're Feeling Discouraged

At first it felt like the right thing to do, but as challenges start popping up left and right, you no longer feel so sure.

Maybe you thought you could “handle it”, but lately you’re feeling so defeated.

You’ve been disciplining yourself to give it to God and trust Him, but when you’re feeling discouraged, some days you find yourself still picking it up and doing things your way – only to realize that your way isn’t error proof.

Discouragement can quickly partner with anxiety, and together they can birth an overwhelming urge to act now. Do something to ease the discomfort. Together they can falsely convince you that there is no hope, and no time, so you’d better move now.

Not so.

This leads to half-baked decision making, careless words, and even dangerous methods of self-soothing.

Listen in on today's episode as we talk about practical steps you can take to help you:

- Practice resisting the pressure to act quickly when you’re feeling discouraged.

- Walk by faith in the throes of your circumstance

- Shift your sight from the crash to the cross

Quotes:

"Feelings may not totally go away – and some days they may spike – but it doesn’t stay at the same intensity forever."

"The best thing to do when you feel tempted to act during moments of discouragement, is to do nothing."

"Practice resisting the pressure to act quickly when you’re feeling discouraged. Resist the lie that you must act NOW in order to be okay."

"Remember – You desire His perspective. Not yours."

"Can you resolve being still in this present difficulty, shifting your eyes from the crash and onto the cross?"

Scriptures:

James 1:19

Psalm 46:10

Romans 8:28

Hebrews 11:1,6

E018 - It's Time to go to Class

E018 - It's Time to go to Class

Let’s celebrate the start of season 3!

The biggest question to ponder in episode 018 is, “Whose voice are you listening to?”

Avenues for advice and direction are within reach for most of us in 2022; social media, self-help books; master classes; therapy; friends and family. The list is endless. But whose voice are you listening to?

Sister, it’s time to step into the Lord’s classroom and be taught by Him.

We also dig into the 4 reasons why we’re in the Lord’s classroom, but we’re still not learning. They are:

  1. Lack of trust
  2. Underdeveloped or erroneous viewpoint of God
  3. Exhaustion
  4. Lack of time in class

In this episode:

  • The 2 things we are promised to have when we are taught by the Lord, and several other blessings that flow when He is Guide
  • A recap of the “Laying Foundations” Series and its necessity in preceding our emotional deliverance
  • The practice and wisdom in seeking God’s face and direction for the circumstances we face.

Quotes to Remember:

“Trust Him that, even if this thing does crash and burn, He is carrying you through. Trust Him and abide.”

“When we are taught by the Lord, our prosperity and peace are great, and we are not left wanting.”

“We are in His classroom, but we’re still not learning.”

“Whose wisdom are you relying on?”

Scriptures:

John 10:5

Isaiah 54:13

Psalm 23:1

John 8:28

Psalm 119:102

Isaiah 28:26

E017 - Faith Over Feelings

E017 - Faith Over Feelings

Is your faith based on what you can see?

Would you still have faith if God never answered your prayers?

How many times have you been in a situation that flooded your emotional and mental bank with all the feels? In an instant (or a slow fill) you were overcome and maybe you took the wheel of your life and made some decisions as a result of those feels.

Feelings, while they may be real, are not to be trusted. Why? Feelings change and feelings don't tell the entire story. Remember, Feelings are not king. God is raising up His daughters to be women of true grit and character. Women who don't tread according to the demands of their feelings, but instead, in obedience due to His word, and His promise.

Today, I share some of the hardships my family is currently walking through, the impact and reach of grief, and oh yes - feelings.

In this episode:

- Why the Believer should aim for a faith-motivated life rather than a feelings motivated life.

- Identifying when our feelings are tempting us to go "dark"

- Exactly why we can trust God's promises when our world is upside down

- Emerging as a pillar of faith during life's trials

- What to do if you are feeling overcome, swayed, or heavily influenced by your feelings

- The benefit and reward of standing in faith and obedience even when you won't see the promise

- How faith is a vital component to spiritual maturity

- The dangers of being feelings-motivated

And so much more!

Quotes to Remember:

"The Lord calls us to live a faith-motivated life, not a feeling-motivated life."

"Feelings don't tell the entire story."

"You can't trust yourself because you always only know in part."

"God is going to take what you cannot see to create something that you can see."

"What if God is calling you to suffer? What if He is calling you to be the pivotal caveat in someone else's life?"

What if your situation may never improve? Will you still serve? Will you still follow? Will you still love?

E016 - Will you Follow Me?

E016 - Will you Follow Me?

(Note: this is episode 016, not 015 which was incorrectly stated in the recording)

What does it mean to be saved and how do you "do it"? Here's a hint, it doesn't involve simply reciting a "Sinner's prayer".

Today, we take a look at the one thing that Jesus told everyone whom he called - follow me. In this chock-full episode, you'll need to grab a pen as Hannah outlines the erected challenges in following Jesus, and the 6 vital and digestible steps that are required in order for us to follow and follow well.

In this episode:

- Are you struggling with doubt and unbelief, and trusting Jesus?

- The biggest thing that is required in order for us to follow

- How and why we begin to take on the image of the idols of our hearts (and what happens when we do)

- Our necessary response to salvation vs. simply reciting a prayer

- The 6 vital steps requires for following Jesus:

1) Willingness to follow

2) Absence of resistance

3) Acknowledgement and understanding that you don't know where to go

4) Detaching from where you currently are

5) An ability to trust Who is leading

6) Endurance to keep following and pressing on the gas

Quotes:

"The essence of what we do in this journey as Believers is following Jesus"

"What Jesus came to earth to do was to beckon us to follow Him"

"If you refuse to move, you're not going to be able to follow"

"It takes humility to follow"

"If we're totally honest with ourselves, and we reflect [on] the nature of our heart, are we struggling with unbelief? Are we struggling with doubt in who Christ is? Is that the reason why it's difficult for you to follow?"

"As we devote more and more worship to the idols of the heart, we begin to take on the image of that idol"

"Whatever we are constantly surrounding ourselves with or focusing on, we begin to take on the form and the image of that thing"

"We need fuel and endurance to run this race"

"Learn to rest in the rest that the Lord provides."

"It's not saying the Lord's prayer that saves you, it's following Him."

E015 - For the Moms is Back (and it's Gonna be GOOD!)

E015 - For the Moms is Back (and it's Gonna be GOOD!)

In speaking with countless new Moms over the years, it became quite obvious that absolutely nothing can prepare you for Motherhood except Motherhood itself!

There are so many thoughts and feelings that come along on this ride and oftentimes women feel so ashamed to say, “I need help, I don’t know what I am doing!”.

For the Moms is an annual written blog series which aims to ignite and connect Godly Women in various stages of Motherhood toward the revelation of their Divinely given assignment and their impact as the gatekeepers of the home.

Since its inception in 2020, For the Moms has received over 2,500 views in almost 30 countries! In 2022, my goal is to increase those numbers and our impact.

At the heart of For the Moms is the heart to reach this profound group whose jobs are often thankless and endless. A group whose role is critical to the very nations we inhabit as we are raising the next generation. A group who holds such profound weight in the lives of their families and in the sight of God; Mothers.

There is purpose untold in motherhood. It is an assignment to be both understood and accepted. And what is paramount, is that as Daughters of the King, we come into alignment with His vision and purpose in our Mothering.

For the Moms is such a movement. One whose purpose and mission is to elevate Christ and conceptualize Godly character in Motherhood – and to reach down and pull up those Mothers who are just starting, who are understandably worn, or who have somehow lost their way. Further, For the Moms is a movement that is calling to attention the warriors within us for the times in which we live. We will aim to unravel the mistakes and cycles of generations past. We will wage war for our families. And, we will diligently seek the Lord’s face concerning His will for our children and who we are becoming through our Motherhood.

So, if you’re a new mom, or a seasoned one – this is for you!

If you’ve ever been in question, or weary, or alone, or afraid – this is for you!

If you’re a woman – this is for you!

If you know the goodness of God – this is for you!

If you have a woman that you love who is a mom or hopes to become one – this is for you!

If you are humbled by the Treasure of Christ who lives in you and makes everything you do possible – then this is for YOU!

*Stay tuned to the end for a sweet message from the Smith Girls!!!

E014 - When Trauma Becomes Our Trip Up - Pt. 2

E014 - When Trauma Becomes Our Trip Up - Pt. 2

Contrary to common belief, time doesn’t necessarily heal all wounds. Some healing will require a decision to be made. Some healing requires intentional ongoing maintenance, one step at a time.

In the conclusion of this 2-part series, Hannah discusses making the critical decision to heal. We can’t control whether we experience trauma, but we can make a decision to heal following that trauma.

We gaze again at the woman with the issue of blood. She had had enough, and she knew the time for her to get healed had come because the Healer (Jesus) was within reach. She got into the crowd in her condition, intending to touch Jesus’ cloak, and when she did, she got healed.

It is also evident that how we view trauma is dependent on how we view God. Consider everything that Job went through; he lost his children, his finances, and his personal health. Job had all the reasons to curse God, but he never did it. He chose to believe that God would heal and restore him, and that God’s sovereignty did not change.

Hannah shares practical steps that we can take in our journey toward healing, including the first steps which is understanding and accepting that Jesus is the true Healer.

Listen to this episode as we dig deeper into healing, restoration, and not idolizing trauma.

Key Talking Points of the Episode:

[02:16] Seeing past the smoke

[05:06] Emotional healing and restoration of God’s way

[07:17] The woman with the issue of blood

[08:47] The essence of counseling

[12:32] Trauma that seeks to exalt itself against the knowledge of Christ is where we find our downfall

[14:20] How you view trauma is largely dependent upon how you view God. Do you have a low or high view of God?

[16:45] Allowing Jesus - not your trauma - to be king

[20:00] Why do we need not to idolize our trauma

[22:00] Dwelling in the place of trauma hinders emotional and spiritual sobriety

[26:00] Seeking safety through Godly counsel.

[30:30] Stewing and chewing on Isaiah 55: "The Free Offer of Mercy.”

Quotes from the Episode:

“Some of us may find that we become the toxic person after we become wounded, and that woundedness then becomes infection, and then that infection then becomes bitterness.”

“Healing is a decision. It’s not an easy decision. It’s not an overnight decision, and it doesn’t happen all in an instance.”

“If you are a believer, and you’re looking to stay on the path of holiness and righteousness, you have to be very cautious of who you’re taking counsel from.”

“The enemy uses trauma to strip us, weaken us, and abort our purpose and mission. God uses this trauma to strengthen, mature, build and discipline us. When we hold his hands through the turbulence of life. We are refined. We become resolute and our fate.”

“How you view trauma depends on how you view God.”

“You need to transform areas of weakness in your life into strength.”

013 - When Trauma Becomes Our Trip Up

013 - When Trauma Becomes Our Trip Up

Episode 013 is all about the other dark side of trauma. What happens when trauma becomes our trip up? Hannah talks about the responsibility we hold in our healing journey after we have faced trauma. Negating this responsibility puts us at risk of idolizing our trauma and perpetually dwelling in it and tripping over it.

Just one touch from Jesus healed the woman with the issue of blood. It was her faith despite her past that made her whole. This same healing is available to us, should we reach for it. It won’t be easy, but with God, ALL things are possible. It is God’s grace in the wilderness that will carry us. Don’t miss out on part 1 of this 2-part series!

In this episode:

  • The lies of trauma
  • The enemy's lies that trap us in trauma
  • God’s truth that crushes those lies
  • Identifying how we graduate from the pain to perpetually abiding in the pit of trauma, and hence, that trauma becoming our trip up.
  • The dangers of paralysis by analysis
  • Becoming toxic and blame shifting
  • And more!

Quotes:

“Life does not end and life does not have to end because of trauma.”

“Just one touch. One word. From God almighty will heal. One touch will erase the past. There is grace in the wilderness.”

“Trauma becomes our trip up when and only when it becomes an IDOL.”

“We overcome the ramifications of trauma because of the grace of God.”

E012 - The Hey Hey Episode

Hey Hey Listeners!

We kick off the new year with a relaxed episode 012. Nothing structured or specific, just Hannah sharing her current happenings and what she’s got in the queue including the launch of The MRKD Store and becoming a certified Biblical Counselor.

E011 - The Knocking at the Door

E011 - The Knocking at the Door

We cap off with the final podcast recording of 2021.

Today in episode 011 - The Knocking at the Door - Hannah takes listeners on a deep look within as we check our mindsets and heart-sets in preparation for 2022.

We reflect on many Believers' struggle with the issue of compromise; a struggle that can rob us of holiness and can lead us to continuous people-pleasing and fear of man. Hannah shares of her own recent battle with compromise in a relationship, and how she had to choose to shut the door with love in order to guard her heart from the enemy’s compounding lies.

In this episode:

  • Identifying areas and relationships in our lives that tempt or cause us to compromise, including identifying people who are peace makers, peace fakers, and peace breakers.
  • Making the choice to shut the door with love and what that actually means.
  • Understanding and responding to the most important knocking at the door as revealed in Revelation 3.
  • Maturing in our spiritual walk for this new year and evaluating our hearts position according to Jesus’ message to the churches in Revelation 3.
  • The urgency in picking up the assignments that God has for us in 2022.
  • Answering the call to salvation.

Reflective Questions

  • In what ways am I compromising?
  • What am I choosing to overlook and why?
  • Is this relationship or connection bringing me further to God or further away?
  • If I am stuck in a trend of pleasing people, what is driving this need? Fear? Acceptance? Approval? Companionship? Relevance?

Quotes:

“The Lord wants us to grow. He wants us to go from spiritual milk to spiritual food.”

“Ask, ‘What are those things that are causing me to compromise? What are those things that are knocking at the door of my heart?’”

“At times, we do have to ‘lock the door’, in order to maintain a standard of holiness and righteousness. Those are the two things that the enemy tries to steal from us - holiness and righteousness - so he will tempt us to compromise.”

"Without that 'love' piece, our hearts and our minds become a breeding ground for seeds of resentment, anger and pride, and bitterness and pain; I have lived that.”

E010 - Passion, Power, & Caring (Warning, this Message isn’t for the Faint of Heart)

Be prepared to get a little uncomfortable.

There is a time for everything. Today, gentle reminders and encouragement give way to an introspective and sharp message that stirs both Hannah and her listeners to reflect on the genuine posture of their hearts toward the things of God.

This strong word and reflection touches on truly caring about the kingdom, the dangers of manufactured purpose, repentance, faulty self-helplessness, and the haughtiness we are all so guilty of.

Hannah boldly challenges us to deeply ponder our motives and to think about how our claims of faith line up with our willingness to even be interrupted by God. This message certainly isn’t for the faint of heart. You won’t want to miss it.

In this Episode:

  • Agonizing Prayer
  • Are you willing to be interrupted by God?
  • The heart of passion, power, and caring as reflected in the life of Elijah
  • How our ignorance leads to unrest
  • How our tendency to lead and direct can attempt to usurp God’s plan in our lives
  • Exposing the notion that we are helpless and incapable of living a righteous life
  • How to turn from the things that are separating you from God and holy living
  • The dead end in purpose-chasing
  • Whose "Well done" are you working for?

E009 - The 5 Dangers of Self-Pity

E009 - The 5 Dangers of Self-Pity

Hats off to Season 2!

We've trucked our way through a longer than anticipated Season 1!

We arrive at the doors of season 2 with an understanding of the 4 Principle Foundations that Hannah taught on in Season 1:

  1. Understanding Who God Is (E003)
  2. Understanding Who We are (E004)
  3. Understanding Who Satan Is (E006)
  4. Understanding our Fight, and Who it is Against (E008)

With these foundational principles laid in place, Hannah prepares to directly address a number of emotional mountains and complexities in Season 2, and how Women of God can navigate and overwhelmingly conquer with the strength of Jesus Christ. We begin with Self-Pity.

In this Episode:

  • Giving God Your Pain; The Pain is NEVER in vain
  • Overwhelmingly Conquering in Trials
  • Learn about God's Sovereignty and purpose for our pain as outlined in Scripture
  • Hannah's Transformative Vision and it's meaning

E008 - Laying Foundations (Understanding Our Fight & Who it is Against)

E008 - Laying Foundations (Understanding Our Fight & Who it is Against)

In the fourth and last installment of the ‘Laying Foundations’ series, host Hannah explores the need to understand our fight and who it’s against. In our spiritual journey towards becoming free, it is essential in recognizing that identifying where the fight comes from and who it’s against will liberate us from the fears and temptations that can harm us and instead, will empower us to become closer to God. In this episode, Hannah speaks on the importance of the struggle beyond what we can see, why it is beyond flesh and blood, and why ignorance, complacency, and indifference can make us victims to excessive burnout and unnecessary battles. Growing in your faith is also about standing up for righteousness.

The Laying Foundations Series is a 4-part series and contains the essential things everyone should know in our journey toward freedom. These parts include understanding who we are, understanding who God is, understanding who Satan is, and understanding our fight and who it is against, which will be tackled today.

[4:26]

Today’s episode’s scripture references come from Ephesians 6:1 and Peter 5:8. Ephesians 6 begins by teaching us who we are fighting against and how we are fighting principalities, power, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places—not other humans.

Christians’ Casual Attitudes

[06:39]

Some examples of casual attitudes in our faith and why it’s the greatest WRONG you do to yourself

[07:29] Reference from Dr. Charles Stanley’s book, Confronting Casual Christianity

1 Peter 5:8

[8:42]

We are not to be ignorant of Satan’s vices as he wanders about like a lion, looking for the next victim. It’s Satan’s job to bring us out of God’s will.

Who God has Purposed Us to Be

[11:14]

We are image-bearers and co-heirs with Christ. We are sons and daughters, the righteousness of Christ, and more than conquerors.

[12:07]

Some mountains that cause you to doubt God and withdraw from God are self-pity, regret, rage, depression, anxiety, offense, loneliness, rejection, fear, and guilt.

[15:23]

Go into actual battle, which is prayer, intercession, and the Word of God because it is a reminder not to attack the human being, but the root.

[16:08]

You begin to see how the enemy works through unaware people when you start becoming more discerning.

E007 - Picking back up the Mic: Pressure, the Pandemic, and God's Amazing Grace

E007 - Picking back up the Mic: Pressure, the Pandemic, and God's Amazing Grace

Welcome back! It's been a year since my last episode. Today, I talk about the reason why I took a break from podcasting and all that I've been up to during this time. I also talk about my new stirring new eBook, Through the Turbulence: Prayers from the Diary of a Broken Heart - available now on Amazon.

“People need to hear what we have gone through so that they can see God in their lives and know that He is able.” - Hannah

In this episode:

  • Why I haven’t recorded for an entire year.
  • My pregnancy journey and a 10-pound surprise!
  • Pregnant + Rainbow Baby + Pandemic. A perfect recipe for fear and anxiety and even more perfect ingredients for God’s power and grace.
  • My new eBook Through the Turbulence - Prayers from the Diary of a Broken Heart now available on Amazon.
  • How God strengthens and molds us during our lowest moments, and the power of sharing your testimony after overcoming hard times to help others know God’s ability to heal.
  • The second annual For the Moms Bold and Brave Series – powerful stories of Biblical Motherhood from women from around the world on the Marked Life Blog.

The Return

[0:52]

The last episode for this podcast was in July of 2020. It has been a year since Hannah has stepped in front of the mic, talking, and sharing with her audience.

Why Hannah stopped making episodes

[2:15]

Hannah didn’t intend to stop making episodes, and it certainly wasn’t her intention to stop podcasting. But without any warning, when she recorded her last episode in July of 2020, she found out several weeks before that she was pregnant.

[3:17]

Hannah gave birth in February 2021 to a beautiful, almost 10-pound baby girl. She spent last year being pregnant and overcoming intense morning sickness, needing all of her energy and time to get through her pregnancy.

Certified #GirlMom and The Big Baby!

[3:44]

Hannah found out that her newborn baby girl was much bigger than she expected just days before her due date.

Challenges of the Rainbow Pregnancy

[6:06]

On Mother’s Day of 2019, Hannah had a 2nd-trimester pregnancy loss. So her newborn baby meant so much to her. She faced tremendous anxiety, along with the challenges of the pandemic. And having to experience that alone was very intense for her.

[7:17]

To experience pregnancy in such a fragile and delicate time in the world and her personal life was very intense for Hannah. It was very difficult for her to even think about podcasting. She focused all her little energy on taking care of herself and going through the obvious motions and emotions of pregnancy, all while being home with two little children in the process.

Through the Turbulence - Prayers from the Diary of a Broken Heart

[8:38]

During the pandemic, Hannah was able to muster up the strength and release her ebook Through the Turbulence. The ebook is available on Amazon. The full title is Through the Turbulence: Prayers from the Diary of a Broken Heart.

The Power and Necessity of Our Testimonies

[10:21]

People need to hear what we have gone through so that they can see God in their lives. And they can know that God is able, that God is faithful, not only to deliver us from those tough times but to mold and shape us in those tough times.

2nd Annual “For the Moms” - Bold & Brave

[12:05]

In May of 2021, Hannah launched the second annual “For the Moms - Bold and Brave” series.

E006 - Laying Foundations Pt IV (Understanding who Satan is)

E006 - Laying Foundations Pt IV (Understanding who Satan is)

We’re talking about some of the things that have been going on in my world, and I get back to the series, “Laying Foundations”. Today in part 3, we are discussing, “Understanding who Satan is”. This concept, while seemingly gloomy and dark, is necessary and even advised biblically. In 2 Corinthians 2:11, Christians are warned to not be ignorant of Satan’s methods and strategies.
This means that we have to know our enemy and his nature. Why is this important? It teaches and equips us on how to pray, how to resist, and ultimately how to fight. If there is a time that we need to know how to do these 3 things, NOW is that time.
In this series we have been focusing on the foundations that I believe are necessary for emotional and spiritual freedom and deliverance. As we dig deeper into each of these concepts, I realize that they will be important for our ongoing spiritual walk in general, not just for those seeking emotional deliverance. As a reminder, the 4 foundations that are covered in this series are: Understanding who God is, Understanding who we are; Understanding who Satan is, and Understanding our fight and who it is against.
Satan is the exact and total opposite of everything God is. God is light, Satan is darkness. God is truth. Satan is the father of lies. God is peace, Satan is confusion and destruction. God gives abundantly, Satan comes to steal. God convicts and transforms. Satan is the accuser of the brethren. Satan is counterfeit (Rev. 13:14 and 2 Cor 4:4)

Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.) John 8:44 - ...he was a murderer from the beginning Genesis 2:17 - But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die. 2 Cor 11:14 - For even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light 2 Cor 11:3 - But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 2 Cor 4:4 - In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Isaiah 14:12–15 - How you are fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into Heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit. Ezekiel 28:12-17 - You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God…You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.

E004 - Laying Foundations Pt III - Understanding who We Are

E004 - Laying Foundations Pt III - Understanding who We Are

We’re back today with part III of the series, “Laying foundations” - Understanding who We are.

We live in an era that is entangled in self-worship. We invest a ton of time, effort and money in our minds, our bodies, our looks, our well being, everything. We are so wrapped in us. What makes us happy, what makes us comfortable, what makes us powerful, what makes us better than the next.

One of the most profound things I have learned and am still learning about my identity in Christ, is that I am nothing. Realizing this allows us to surrender and "lay down" so that God can be in the lead.

We will never experience healing and deliverance or be open to it, until we realize that we are spiritually bankrupt because of sin. Pride is what keeps us self-sufficient and blind.

Once we understand our position and need, then we can begin rebuilding our broken identities by accepting who God says we are in His word: We are chosen, called, given grace fully and freely, we are loved, we are forgiven and redeemed, we have been given authority, we are children of God.

E003 - Laying Foundations Pt II - Understanding who God Is

E003 - Laying Foundations Pt II - Understanding who God Is

We’re back today with part II of the series “Laying Foundations”. In episode 002, I introduced what I believe are the 4 vital foundations that must be laid as we move toward deliverance:

1) Understanding who God is

2) Understanding who we are

3) Understanding who Satan is

4) Understanding our fight and who it is against

Once we know who God the Father, Our Father is, then we position ourselves to begin understanding things like:

  • The load we are intended to carry vs. the load He is intended to carry
  • Our true identity as Daughters of God

As I was gathering my thoughts on this series, I thought of the term “fine print”. A lot of mistakes  and pain experienced in our lives is due to the fine print of our spiritual lives being overlooked, misunderstood, or not taken seriously. The details are always in the fine print.

God fills every crevice of space. He is so right under our  noses, that we cannot be ignorant of Him. As Stephen Charnock puts it, "As he [God] cannot be comprehended in His essence, He cannot be unknown in His existence".

Some of the attributes of God discussed are God's:

Sovereignty

Holiness

Omnipotence

Omniscience

Wrath

Love

Immutability

E002 - Laying Foundations (Part I)

E002 - Laying Foundations (Part I)

Before we can dive into emotional wounds, healing, and the challenges that we face as women, it is important to lay a foundation.

In today’s episode, 002, we talk about some of the foundations that I believe are necessary in the journey toward emotional healing and deliverance. Had I had this foundation, a solid understanding of it, I may have not went on living under so much pain and weight for so many years. The list of these foundations is not all inclusive, but it does consist of some of the foundations that have played a crucial role in my own personal journey of deliverance:

1) Understanding God's Nature

2) Understanding who We are

3) Understanding who Satan is

4) Understanding our fight and who it is against

Scripture References:

Ephesians 6:11-12 (Modern English Version) - "Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.  12 For  our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,  against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and  against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."

Job 13:15 (MEV) - "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him...."

I Peter 4:12-13 (MEV) - "Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery  ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though some  strange thing happened to you.  13 But  rejoice insofar as you share in Christ’s sufferings, so that you may  rejoice and be glad also in the revelation of His glory."

Acts 14:22 (New International Version) - "strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the  faith. “We must go through many hardships (trials) to enter the kingdom of God,”  they said."

John 8:32 (MEV) - "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”

II Corinthians 4:16 (MEV) - "For this reason we do not lose heart: Even though our outward man is perishing, yet our inward man (spirit) is being renewed day by day."

II Corinthians 10:4 (MEV) - "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds."

Matthew 19:26 (MEV) - "But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

E001 - What's this Really all About?

E001 - What's this Really all About?

In episode 000, we talked a little bit about the vehicle, podcasting - and some of my motivations for podcasting. In this episode, we’re going to be digging deeper to talk about the vehicle make up. What is this podcast really all about, who is it for, and why “She’s Marked”?

Today we dig in a little to talk about holiness and what it means to be set apart. Many times as Christians, we miss this piece completely, and produce fruitless and ineffective lives filled with religion. We also discuss the big difference between believing in Christ vs. living for Him.

Other points cover the tons of lies we believe (and the outward sources we look to) regarding our identity and worth. These lies and sources drive us to build outwardly, while crumbling inwardly.
