Ep 36: "Unveiling the Hidden Texture Tax: The Real Cost of Beauty Products for Black Women" Let's Make It Rain Podcast w/ Davinia

I'm thrilled to share my story with you in this special episode. Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with Davinia on the "Let's Make It Rain" podcast, and I'm excited to bring that conversation to my own podcast.

During our chat, I shared my experiences of starting the new year on Necker Island with Richard Branson and other incredible entrepreneurs, which was truly inspiring. We also delved into the pressing issue of the "texture tax" that black women often face when it comes to haircare products, and how Treasure Tress is working to address this disparity.

I opened up about how my niece inspired me to create Treasure Tress, and my deep commitment to investing in the next generation of young women. We also discussed my perspective on building wealth and creating options for ourselves and our communities.

I can't wait for you to join me on this journey as we dive into my story, my vision for Treasure Tress, and my unwavering dedication to empowering black women. This episode of She's Obsessed The Podcast is not to be missed!

Ep 35: "You need to know the game that you're playing... position yourself to get the bag!" w/ Mandy Nyarko

An episode filled with so many "aha" moments! This was an episode I'd been looking forward to recording for a long time and it did not disappoint!

I was joined by Mandy Nyarko MBE - VP at Ada Ventures and Co-Founer of the Start Up Discovery School.

Mandy and I discussed:

  • the fact that pursuing your purpose is a privilege
  • you should be pursuing purpose and profit!
  • your purpose changes as you change
  • balance is a thing, but there are cycles
  • female entrepreneurs have to wear many hats, and inherit roles which impact their journey
  • cultural attitudes towards money

Follow Mandy @mandy_nyarko to keep up with her journey.

Ep 34: Creative Entrepreneurship: "I can do ANY thing but I can't do EVERY thing.. at once" w/ Jevetta Boyce

Ep 34: Creative Entrepreneurship: "I can do ANY thing but I can't do EVERY thing.. at once" w/ Jevetta Boyce

Building a brand teaches you many lessons and requires a variety of skills. Multitasking and exercising your creative muscles appear at the top of that list of skills!

Doing everything in your business is a blessing a curse.

The blessing - you know how everything functions and can train others.

The curse - you're strapped from time and capacity.

Creativity is a necessary ingredient for the formulation of any brand yet how does one protect their ideas? Pitching to clients is essential for B2B businesses but how do you avoid your ideas being stolen?

We switched positions for a second episode, and in this episode Jevetta Boyce asked me (Jamelia Donaldson) a few burning questions she had on the start up journey of TreasureTress.

We hope you enjoy!

Episode sponsored by @motorolauk A few months ago I announced my partnership with Motorola to gift someone with a brand new g100 and offer free mentorship for a month. While I shared my own experiences, I equally learnt a ton from Chantelle and her fresh approach to business. Episode 28: "Guidance and Leadership > Management. Managing people is difficult' w/ Darren Tenkorang CEO/founder of Trimit

Episode 28: "Guidance and Leadership > Management. Managing people is difficult' w/ Darren Tenkorang CEO/founder of Trimit

On this episode of She's Obsessed The Podcast, I caught up with Darren Tenkorang CEO/Founder of Trimit to explore his founding story, his growth to date, lessons he has learned throughout the years and the words of advice he has received from his investors.

My favourite takeaways were:

  • As a founder it is important to create the infrastructure and allow people to do what they're good at.
  • A leader has to be in servitude of their team and their company.
  • The ultimate goal is to inspire people to work harder as a leader.
  • Things do not get easier but you do build muscle memory!

If you haven't already seen Trimit on Channel 4's Money Maker, you can learn more about Darren @drntnk and trims @trimit

Let me know your thoughts and be sure to share with your friends and family

Episode 21: "Character is more important than skill, the wrong character can kill a business" w/ Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon

After some time away, I am back with a topic which is amongst the top questions I have received during my start up journey. How do you build a dream team? I couldn't be more excited to introduce you to my next guest Dr Anne Marie Imafidon MBE (YES - DR!). Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE is a British computing, mathematics and language child prodigy. She is one of the youngest to pass two GCSEs in two different subjects while in primary school. Imafidon founded and became CEO of Stemettes in 2013, a social enterprise promoting women in STEM careers.

We discuss all things required from a team perspective to grow businesses from scrappy start up's to well established SME's. This was a conversation I myself needed reminding of, so I hope you find it as useful as I did.

Live Panel “Create the things you wish to see - Intrapreneurship”

Live Panel “Create the things you wish to see - Intrapreneurship”

More often than not Founders and Entrepreneurs are given all of the credit for the work done to build their business from scratch, with little recognition of the women (and men but mostly women 😉) working behind the scenes to bring the vision to life. For our latest panel we were excited to introduce you all to our Panel of intrapreneurs - Intrapreneurship involves creating and discovering new ideas, solutions and opportunities within a company. Someone who is creating value, innovating, building and creating true impact. An intrapreneur is a person who practises intrapreneurship. Each and every member of a business is a key player. We are here to empower and remind you that you do not need to be a CEO to be changing the game, in fact, most founder's speak on the importance of having a powerful team. Jamelia will have the pleasure of interviewing an array of women from different industries, it is with great excitement that we announce that the evening will consist of both Curly Couch Conversations - Intrapreneurship with Shanon Stanislaus - New Product Development & Marketing Brand Manager at Africa's Best and the mastermind behind their new Africa's Best Original Coconut Oil Range. Followed by a panel with Shanon and the following powerful women: Amanda Maxwell - A board member and community manager of women in music network shesaid.so and a regular contributor to panel talks on subjects related to inclusion, representation and equal empowerment within the creative industries. Alongside this Amanda also manages a London based DJ Ellie Prohan and most recently moved on from her Boiler Room role as their Open Dance Floors programmer and project manager ensuring the company looked across their platform for intersectionality and social-political issues intertwined with music culture. She will be sharing the reasons why she has been a key team player throughout her career. Siobhan Gowdie - Brand Director at TreasureTress has been a key member of the company. Siobhan is a photographer, make-up artist, brand consultant and all-around creative. Her many talents have been pivotal to the growth of TreasureTress, Siobhan has a solution for everything allowing the company to thrive. She'll be sharing all her tips and tricks, motivating you to self-start, self-learn and achieve. Frances Acquaah - BET International Marketing Executive describes herself as a ‘storyteller’ and has bylines in The Guardian, The Independent and RedBull Amaphiko. She has also contributed to Open: A Toolkit for How Magic and Messed Up Life Can Be and she was previously the Editor of Live Magazine. Frances has worked with BBC, Channel 4 and BET and this year she was listed on The Dots ‘100 Trailblazers redefining the creative industry.’ Now if this isn't the CV of a successful Qween, then what is? She'll be spilling all the tea on how to become a successful intrapreneur.

Episode 3: “Adopt the confidence of a mediocre white man” (live panel pt2. Q&A)

She’s Obsessed The Podcast was officially launched on 5th March at Peckham Levels with a panel discussion. I had the honour of being joined by 4 special ladies who are all killing it in their different fields. What do they all have in common? Their strength, motivation and focus, real Black Girl Bosses. What else do they all have in common? They're all breaking barriers, whether it be in the beauty, media or music industry, they have made their passion and talent a groundbreaking tool in their respective industries and businesses. Breaking barriers is more easily said than done. We're talking with thought leaders and change makers who are explaining to us what it takes to truly build a business from scratch and excel in succeeding in business. We hope you enjoy hearing from myself: Jamelia Donaldson - The Founder and CEO of TreasureTress, THE biggest monthly subscription box for women with natural curly/kinky hair. Jamelia is not only redefining haircare but beauty standards for Black women across Europe and the Middle East. See her Forbes article here. Bernicia Boateng - The Founder and CEO of Bernicia Boateng Studios, a rising name in the British make up industry. Bernicia is on a "mission to help others find what they love in themselves through the creativity of makeup." Her motto is "After all when you look good you feel good and when you feel good you do good." She must not be lying, Bernicia has worked with BBC, MTV, Nike, Vogue and many celebrities. See her interview here Charlotte Williams - An epic Freelance Marketing Consultant. You may have caught her at a beauty event or with top UK leading influencers. Charlotte has been a key actor in the growth of small and bigger brands. She has recently decided to launch her very own business called 'SevenSix Agency", a boutique agency specialising in modern marketing championing diversity and equality. Zelica Jones, Founder & CEO of Vass, a Virtual Business Support Service in communication, social media, accounting, marketing and admin. A multi-talented Boss who supports service-based entrepreneurs who do not enjoy and/or lack the time in completing tasks necessary in running a business. From admin, executive assistance, book-keeping, social media management, event coordination and more. Through personal and professional hardship, Zelica has kept her head high and eyes on her goal and is now highly recognised for her work. Adelaide Lumor, a vibe setting, community gathering, sisterhood loving DJ and a part of the Born N Bread collective. Now, this is what we call talent, sisterhood, they are the definition of Boss Babes. They have made it in the music scene and expanded their roles from Qweens of the dancefloor to Consultants and Content Creators. They are the perfect example that art can become business whilst staying authentic. Adelaide has also entered the events scene and is now curating activations and vibes in Peckham Levels. Now isn't this some serious #marchmotivation for you? The panel ended with a Q&A, which consisted of amazing questions paired with some hilarious and deeply truthful responses.
