This episode is about reconnecting with yourself by not depriving yourself of what you need. Our default mode as humans is to deny ourselves of that which we need, or to view ours needs as luxuries with which we occasionally treat ourselves with after we feel we have 'earned' it. The reality is, our needs are relevant and we deserve so much of what we deny ourselves in order to live a fulfilling life. We also talk about remembering that we are part of a wider, natural system which works through rhythms and cycles which allow us to move through life much easier. Our constant state of go, go, go is stopping us from accessing the flow, flow, flow of life. In order to reconnect, we need to disconnect and build rest into our lives so that we can keep moving forward happy and healthy.
In this episode, we build on the foundations of last week’s conversation. How do these beauty standards operate today? How do they effect the relationship that we have with ourselves? How do they effect the relationship that we have with each other? We also take a good look at the assumed messages the fat body sends because, if anything, a woman must be slim before she in considered beautiful. To summarise, we talk about the other ways that we can illuminate our world with different beauties, how we can support our sisters, and also how we can move forward to start creating a new way of being.
Knowledge is power. From having researched these episodes, I’ve learnt a lot about myself and the relationship I have with my own body. My hope for you is that, armed with this knowledge, you walk away from this episode with a bit more freedom than you had yesterday. If this means that you move through the world with your head held higher, more confidence, more unity with yourself and others…then that’s a great start.
…Because, honestly, it’s time to put down what isn’t yours to carry. And if you put it down, you’ll invite others to do the same.
We all know that women’s bodies are subject to scrutiny and the criticism women receive for not keeping up with normalised, narrow standards of attractiveness are tangible. From magazine covers to social media, from online forums to newspapers…the female body is heavily judged, debated, and critiqued.
In this episode, we’re looking at the historical roots of female beauty standards, and how they operate. We talk about capitalism and power relations; this is vital in laying the foundation for understanding where these impossible, ever-changing standards developed and how they operate on females today. Ultimately, it helps us in understanding the dangerous messages they send to all of us who threaten to fall outside of this beauty remit.

In this episode, I take a walk over some old ground. This stuff has come up for me again - about chasing my desires, and breaking out of my comfort zone - and I thought that if I needed a reminder, maybe someone else out there does, too.
I talk about comfort zones, identifying what my "gut feeling" sounds like, and prioritising the things that make me feel whole.
Let's not make our homes in the comfort zone - let's keep pushing the boundaries of ourself and see where life leads.
There's a lot of awareness around toxic positivity online and, in this week's episode, I explore the concept of toxic gratitude. Gratitude journalling, and using gratitude as a means of becoming more aware of what you have rather than what you lack, can be a wonderful tool for transforming one's mindset. However, in the wrong context, can it become a toxic trait that serves to undermine our own feelings and desires? Let's catch up and talk about it...

Launching this new series of the SheUncensored Podcast, I wanted to begin with this episode as I’ve finally hit the inevitable 3-0. But, before I get stuck into a new decade, I wanted to take some time to reflect on what I learnt throughout my Twenties. There was a lot to think about but had I been told some of these things ten years ago, I may not have been so hard on myself…
Anyway, I’m here to pass on the things that have helped me over the past ten years in hopes that they may be able to help you, too. We discuss on the idea of your twenties being the golden decade where you get everything done, living life a little more slowly, and how it’s absolutely, positively, ultimately acceptable if you do not have your shit together…Me, neither.

Self-Love has been bounded around social media for the last few years and tends to focus on the basic care - eating well, having a bath, and face masks. All well and good but, in this week's episode, we explore the idea that self-love is also doing the hard work of confronting yourself, of learning when to quit, learning when to grit your teeth and carry on, and how it can mean a temporary moment of pain for a future of freedom. Self-love doesn't feel like love all the time.

I’ve never been good at meditation or anything that requires sitting still for long periods of time but, lately, my new practice has been 'seven minute meditations.' This week, I talk about what happened when I tried to meditate and share the feelings that came up when I finally made time to sit and listen to myself. We discuss the idea of being enough, our lives being the perfect springboard to dive into ourselves, and how to practically find our own truths hidden beneath the layers.
