"Just Step Over It!" How to Maneuver Through Life's Obstacles to Find Your Purpose with Shawnte Mckinnon

"Just Step Over It!" How to Maneuver Through Life's Obstacles to Find Your Purpose with Shawnte Mckinnon

Ep. 36 Shawnte Mckinnon is an unconventionalist. Her path has been marked and shaped by the conundrums of life, which has placed her on a journey of non-traditional choices. Shawnte clearly believes there is definitely “more than one way to skin a cat.”

“I believe that there are walls designed to block ‘you’ in particular. Whether it’s physical, mental, or spiritual, there are walls that present themselves from the moment you are formed in your mother’s womb. The key is not to be consumed by those walls, but to work around them by any means necessary. The method is your choice. You can climb over it, pick the wall apart brick by brick, go under it, or walk around it; however, get past those walls. The walls were never designed to move for you—their job is to block you, but you were designed to move beyond it.”

It was Shawnte’s walls that led her to enlist in the United States Air Force and subsequently earn her business degree where she then forged a successful career all while working her way up the corporate ladder. Shawnte has now added entrepreneurship to her growing list of accomplishments. Shawnte’s own tumultuous journey of life fueled her passion to help others heal, release and be restored. This passion became the catalyst that led Shawnte to birth her own platform, where she serves as host, creative director and executive producer of The Shawnte Mckinnon Show. Shawnte is also a self-published author of the book “I’ve Got to Comb my Hair,” a riveting story of how God uses pain to direct the paths of our lives and how that pain can be reflective in something as simple as how a woman wears her hair. In addition, Shawnte has worked as a financial professional for more than a decade and even founded her own tax firm in 2014. Shawnte is always striving to help people pursue their best selves—as an author, a business executive or a media personality.

A Family that Builds Together: A BYOBLIVE recap with Ramona and Taylore Woods

A Family that Builds Together: A BYOBLIVE recap with Ramona and Taylore Woods

Taylore is founder of TayloreMade, LLC

In 3.5 years, she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications graduating at the age of 20. She purchased her first home by 21 and second home by 25.

Taylore has spent the last five years growing Ashtae Products while teaching seminars to both young and middle-age adults about small business growth hacking and social media marketing strategies.

In her spare time, she manages 7 residential properties through her property management business.

Michael and Ramona Woods have been married for over 22 years and are the parents of two daughters Taylore and Ashley. In 1994, the couple co-founded Ashtae Products, Inc, a multicultural hair care distribution company that sells products to beauty salon across the US, Canada, and Caribbean Islands.

In 1994, Michael and Ramona Woods, President/CEO and Vice President/CFO respectively, decided to take their experience and passion for the beauty industry to a new level. They recognized the need for a multi-cultural hair care company that served professional salons with high quality products and education. Most of all, the couple sought to help future clients grow their own businesses and prosper. So the couple began their quest by mortgaging their home and sacrificing personal items to raise the necessary cash to start their multicultural hair care brand ASHTAE.

The company, Ashtae, is named after their two daughters, Ashley and Taylore. As difficult as it was in the early years of the company, Michael and Ramona never lost sight of their vision. They began by distributing their high quality hair care products from a barn behind their home. Mistakes made during the youth of the company taught them lessons that they now share with other new businesses. Their passion lies in helping people to balance family, faith and finances in order to reach their full potential.

Why Self-Care is the First Step Before Marriage with Sacoya Jenkins

Why Self-Care is the First Step Before Marriage with Sacoya Jenkins

Sacoya Jenkins is a Wedding Planner and Day of Coordinator for the modern, yet classy, and sophisticated bride, in Charlotte, NC (and Beyond).

She actually never wanted to own her own business, (so weird), she is not your typical, been selling lemonade since I was 3 years old girl boss. She actually never sold a thing a day in her life before joining the wedding industry. She is also a teacher by day and have always known she wanted to be a teacher.

She has always unofficially planned events for her family since she was very young and it just always felt natural to do so since she is SUPER type A and nit picky, but never dreamed of being in the wedding industry, and having a “business”.

Two years ago she started planning her own wedding and 2 months before her wedding she said to her husband “I could do this for other girls”, he said “ok honey” and that’s that, she booked her first Bride and her wedding date was a WEEK after Sacoya's and she had no idea.

Jenkins Wedding and Co is based in Charlotte, NC
and is so passionate about celebrating true love and the precious journey of marriage and have been providing award winning service for 3 years now!

When she is not planning she is usually at Brunch with my girlfriends or on a romantic date night with Hubby, or teaching or being a bonus mommy or doing #allthethings lol!

How Motherhood Helped Nichole Grant Shift Into Business and Impacting Her Community

How Motherhood Helped Nichole Grant Shift Into Business and Impacting Her Community

NICHOLE  GRANT- ColorMeActress Born and raised in Charlotte N.C., Nichole Grant has always known that theater was her passion.  After a successful tour with the Raiders AND Saber Debate Team from Charlotte N.C. , where she utilized her skill of writing, public speaking and her natural gift of theatrics to take medal winning victories in competitions, the stage became a firm landing for the inspired Nichole Grant. 3M Productions, a local production company in her hometown, opened their door giving Nichole opportunity and creative space to hone her skills and enlarge her vision.  However, Nichole is no new face to the dramatic arts.  Postured firmly on her path to pursuing purpose, this versatile performer continues to prove no role is too large or too small. Her contagious energy and passion for life allows her to pour her heart into each character she portrays. Whether she is cast into roles that are comedic or emotionally charged, Nichole always delivers a compelling performance.  After landing roles in plays such as, “This House Is Not My Home”, “The Quack”, “Movin on Up”, “The Porch”, “Love Misunderstood”, “Bloodline”, and “A Christmas Treasure”, to name a few,  the opportunity was presented to Nichole to assist in writing the stage play, “The Verdict”.   She graciously accepted the writing challenge and, of course, she wouldn’t stop there. Always stirring and expanding her gifts to inspire others, Nichole Grant is quickly becoming recognized as a powerhouse acting coach, performer, writer and director.  In May of 2016 Nichole was honored, recieiving the prestigious Peach Theater Award as 2016s Up & Coming Actress.....while crusing the clear blue waters of Conzumel Mexico. Ms. Grant has written and is currently directing an inspirational stage play, “Lovin’ Christmas Radio”, “Eye on Him” and “Wrongs Made Right”. Ms. Grant has now launched her first series of acting workshops, Actin’ Up Beyond the Stage…..teaching adults and youth the ends and out of theater performance. How Pulmonary Hypertension turned LaKeshia Orr into an Entrepreneur

How Pulmonary Hypertension turned LaKeshia Orr into an Entrepreneur

LaKeshia Orr grew up in Cali, (aka Keshia from Cali) but grew a love for moving from city to city to experience life to the fullest. She moved to DC to attend Howard University, then to New York, Chicago, San Jose and San Diego all within a short time period. She had such a nomadic spirit, always on the move (literally lol).  The major shift she experienced came with my diagnosis of Pulmonary Hypertension in 2017. Her Pulmonologist took her off of work; told her she could no longer live alone; and put her on the NO FLY LIST. Talk about a major shift in my lifestyle!!  Imagine her sitting home, without a job, and unable to go anywhere. Smh! If you know Keshia you know she is waaaay too ambitious to sit at home and do nothing every single day. So she had to shift the plan.  Links mentioned in this episode: Project Management: https://monday.com/product/ Shiftmakers to look out for: Daymia Orr: https://www.instagram.com/memoriesmadebymya/ Connect: IG: @Keshiafromcali Website: https://www.lova.business/ Shift The Plan - @shifttheplan Rhonda D. The Best of Shift The Plan 2018

The Best of Shift The Plan 2018

Today's episode is a flashback to the best episode of the year for Shift The Plan. It's a look back with Sierra Howard, Cute and Broke Don't Mix.
It's also a reminder to stop procrastinating and start the level up right now.
This is the opportunity to wrap of 2018 with a bang and go into 2019 super focused and productive. The word for 2019 is ACTION. Let's make some action happen.
While your here shout out a #Shiftmaker! If you know someone who is doing some amazing works out here and is going under the radar, let me know.
Enjoy the episode!
Sierra Howard is a personal finance coach who helps college graduates achieve financial freedom without restrictions. After college, she ruined her credit, was living paycheck to paycheck, didn't have a savings, and was "living her best life". (or at least she thought she was lol).

One day she tried to sign up for a real estate investing program with her boyfriend and was embarrassed to talk about my money/credit in front of him. She then realized that she didn't want to be in the same situation when she turned 25, so she decided to turn her finances around!

Now she's on a mission to help other college graduates achieve financial freedom.
