Where Have You Been? What's Up?
Just a show about what I've been doing and where the show is going. Also, a great email today from Geoff and an update on my Silk Road Wars Campaign.
All About Terrain
The title says it all for todays chat.
Wargaming the Great Game
In this episode, I attempt (lol) to explore tabletop wargaming the Great Game. I walk through how I scenario build; I do a scene watch-along to the movie Kim (1950) with Errol Flynn and Dean Stockwell; I do a review of the new line of Central Asian Sarbazes & Colonial Russians from Tiger Miniatures; I answer some listener email and I've included another episode of The Silk Road Adventures of Rammstammer on the tail end of this mega episode. Please enjoy!
Pulp Potpourri
Kind of a hodge podge program today, Pulp gaming thoughts, French Foreign Legion thoughts, email response, and a look at Under Two Flags (1936) movie with Ronald Coleman
Lead Pile!
I'm overcome with projects! So, I ramble about this. LOL
The Silk Road Adventures of Rammstammer (4 Episodes)
I have been having a lot of fun with writing and reading this old school radio serial. It features Major Rammstammer of the Czar's Own Household Cameleers as he adventures thru the Central Asian steppe during the mid 1800's Great Game era, while running into friends and foes from every direction. Here are the first 4 Episodes. I'm not sure if I should title them or not, so I might do that later. I'm sort of doing this on the fly. I hope you enjoy.
Solo Wargaming / Serial Listening
In this episode, I talk about my experience in Solo Wargaming and what I listen to while painting and introduce my first Serial called "Rammstammer: The Silk Road Adventures".
We Need A Great Game Documentary
I was watching the Cold War documentary series narrated by Sir Kenneth Branagh and I wish there was an in depth Great Game Doc too. Also, a new feature called "Great Speeches that Never Happened". Thank you for listening!
1/72 vs 28mm Buildings & Emails
Just some talk about the differences when building terrain vs purchasing terrain and I received a few emails that I answer. Thank you for your support!!
Wargaming the Crimean War
My first attempt at long form podcasting with this show's theme being the Crimean War with a Movie Review, Miniature Figure Review, a Movie Watch along, historical synopsis and an interview with an historical figure. Please let me know what you think at @shotandshield on Twitter. I do hope you find it enjoyable.
Short Form vs Long Form
Just a rambling podcast for this episode and looking for some feedback on twitter @shotandshield.
55 Days At Peking Watch-A-Long
Trying something different, do a scene watch-a-long with the great movie, 55 Days At Peking. To preface, bring up your movie to 1 hour 11 minutes (the start of Charleston Heston and team kicking the boxers off the wall.
Game Dispatch: Coup De Ta in Merv
Here is a game report of a Solo game I played where Merv forces split, some joined Persian forces, and in the end moving Merv into the Russian sphere of influence ... in my game campaign.
The Crown & A Confession
Just some randomness in this episode as well as some thank you's
Game Report: Russia Invades Herat
Wars On The Silk Road: Persian Field Force
Wars On The Silk Road: Kashgari Field Force
In this episode I cover how I built the small but colorful Kashgari Field Force using the rule set, The Men Who Would Be Kings. You can see some of the pictures in my twitter feed which have already been ... um tweeted ... to see what I am speaking about. Thank you.
Silk Road Magazine & Sample Game Report
My Wonderful Wife and I went shopping and while at a book store I found a great resource magazine on the Silk Road, also, I've put together a sample game report which I intend on doing for this podcast and putting on YouTube with pictures and video. Thank You for listening!
Interview: Tsar Alexander II
The Flying Column & When Puppy's Invade
The Men Who Would Be Kings Rule Set Review
A quick review of the Colonial Wargaming Rule Set known as The Men Who Would Be Kings by Daniel Mersey and Osprey Publishing.
The Great Game Synopsis
Quick and abbreviated Cliff Notes version of the Great Game between Imperial Russia and Colonial Britain plus some ramblings regarding why I think Central Asia is an interesting arena to tabletop wargame.
Movie Review: Waiting For The Barbarians
Every now and then, I will be reviewing movies or TV shows that have a bent toward Colonialism, and this is one of those times. The movie is called "Waiting for the Barbarians" starring Johnny Depp, Mark Rylance and Robert Pattinson (I think I said Patterson in the cast, don't kill me). The question is: Did this movie inspire me to paint miniatures? Listen and find out! lol
Technical Update
I just wanted to give you a technical update, thank you
Large Table vs Skirmish / Scenario Creation
I take a surface view of why I prefer a skirmish game as opposed to a large table conflict. Also, I convey my view of scenario creation other than a "best person wins" or a "capture the flag" narrow focus.
Scott Did What?
Sun Rises Over The Empire
As the beginning of the Colonial Era opens, so does this show which, hopefully, gives you an insight into it's purpose and point of view regarding tabletop wargaming and historical preferences.
