Did You Know? - With Sister Nazzie

Muslim Americans serve their country every day.  They are police and military soldiers.  

Did you know a Muslim woman competed in Beauty Pageants? She changed the way Americans looked at hijab and pushed the limits of the fashion industry until the fashion industry pushed the limits of her Islamic lifestyle. 

This poem summarizes the many stories told on this podcast.  It gives voice to the American Muslim and our rightful place in American history retold. MY country tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty, of Thee I sing. 

Did you know that the first hillbillies were likely Muslims? Sir Francis Drake marooned over 200 Moorish slaves that he had captured from the Spanish, on the Island of Roanoke.  The Colonist disappeared and so did the Moorish slaves - likely into the hills to become the first Melungeons, also known later has hillbillies. 

Muslims not only discovered America, but also explored it way before Columbus did.  They brought 2000 ships, elephants, and all kinds of supplies. 

Did you know that one of the world's greatest calligraphers is an American? Mohamed Zakariya became a Muslim in 1961 when he was only 19 years old after he traveled to Morocco to learn more about calligraphy. He's best known as the artist of the Eid Stamps.

Did you know that US Lawyers regard Islam as one of the greatest sources of law.  Symbols of this can be found in several American law institutions such as Harvard Law School, the Supreme Court, and at one time, the Manhattan Appellate Court. 

Contrary to popular belief, Roger Bacon and Sir Isaac Newton were not the first to discover Gravity.  Al-Khazini discovered theories of gravity many years before these Western scholars. 

Did you Know Yusuf Islam was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2014?  

Jabir Ibn Hayyan, also known in the West as Geber, was able to establish modern chemistry out of the study of alchemy by systematically observing and measuring various chemicals and organic materials.
