Sisters Who Saga: A Sci-fi/Fantasy Recap Podcast

The siblings are excited to embark on their first sci-fi journey together as they begin their recap of the Netflix show Black Mirror, Season 6. Episode One (Joan is Awful) brings viewers on an awful journey in multiple dimensions with an involuntary participant. Cringe along as the sibs discuss the downfall and eventual redemption of a regular Jane, or in this case, Joan. Don’t miss commentary on the stellar casting, terrifying AI technology and terrible wig situation.

This week the siblings discuss the second episode of the sophomore season of “Shadow and Bone," entitled "Rusalye." They wonder if they may be spotting some chemistry between Alina and Sturmhond (aka stroopwafel), they gush about the awesomeness of each Crow member (a pastime that will undoubtedly continue throughout the season), and they celebrate the return of Zoë Wanamaker as Baghra.

In What Has Enchanted Them this week, Libby talks about season 3 of “The Mandalorian,” MK wraps up the group's discussion on “Daisy Jones & The Six,” and Ted gives his review on “History of the World, Part II.”

The siblings kick off their coverage of the Netflix fantasy series "Shadow and Bone," diving into the newly released second season, and giving a short (and possibly confusing) recap of the first season. Watching the first season is highly recommended to give context for this season's shenanigans with Alina/Mal and the Crows. A few important things are discussed including: Are all pirates just privateers, is Mal afraid of the power of women, and is Ben Barnes actually evil in real life?!

In their final recap of season 1 of “Willow,” the siblings who saga let loose on the series that has let them down at almost every turn. Ted’s sass levels are at an all-time high, MK questions whether or not the series might be a spoof, and Libby volunteers to drink the Wyrm’s evil liquid just to stop watching the episode. Although it’s safe to say “Willow” was not their favorite show to cover, they sure do have fun talking about it!

The siblings give their final thoughts on “Willow” and then move on to the shows they’ve been watching. They of course discuss “The Last of Us” on HBO and Libby contemplates if her mushroom obsession will continue after watching the show. Libby talks about why you should watch another HBO post-apocalyptic drama called “Station Eleven,” and Teddy discusses the animated sitcom “Ten Year Old Tom” while Libby falls asleep.

Let’s wrap up Disney’s Willow Season 1 with as much humor and wit as we can! The long-awaited recaps for Episodes 7 and 8 are out now! We will make it through this … we swear! “Dirt makes you hotter and everyone knows that,” is just one great insight from this week’s episode of Sisters Who Saga.

The crew unfortunately had a technical issue and lost the audio for the recap of episode 5. But worry not! They do a quick overview of the 5th installment of Disney+’s “Willow” at the top of this episode. They then dive into episode 6, discussing the purpose of Christian Slater’s character Allagash, the comedic gold of the weirdly formal and polite trolls, and how the length of Prince Arik’s hair correlates to his likability.

At the end of the episode, MK discusses her thoughts of the film “The Menu,” Libby and Ted agree that Noah Baumbach’s latest film “White Noise” was bizarre and hard to watch, and Libby shares the interior design shows that have been inspiring her.

The siblings are back from winter break and ready to discuss Willow episode 4, “The Whispers of Nockmaar.”

Things get spooky as Willow and his crew attempt an exorcism and drama unfolds in Queen Bavmorda’s castle. This episode gives a lot of backstory on the Crone and Bavmorda’s villain journey which will most certainly be useful in the journey going forward. We also catch a glimpse of the Immemorial City.

Things that enchanted us this week include “The Invitation,” “His Dark Materials” on HBO and an anime show of some kind ...

The siblings are back from holiday break to cover episode 3 of "Willow." They also ask the important questions, like "Is Willow a great sorcerer?" "What is a canker?" and "Can an episode be a filler episode if characters die?"

In the final segment, MK and Libby discuss the second season of "White Lotus" and Libby explains why the new adaptation of "Dangerous Liaisons" on STARZ deserves the second season it will never get.

The siblings begin their journey recapping the new Disney+ series "Willow" starring Warwick Davis. Magic, adventure, and "the power of friendship" abound in the first episode of this much-anticipated show. Let the cheesy, 80's inspired fantasy story of a brave wizard and his Gen Z counterparts begin! 

Enchanting recommendations this week include the documentary "Val," the Amazon series "The Wheel of Time," and the seasonally appropriate film, "Spirited." 

Tune in as the siblings wrap up their House of the Dragon Season 1 journey with a recap of the season finale, "The Black Queen."

There is much to debate and ponder over the next year or two (or three?) until Season 2 premieres. But one thing is sure - it's going down! In this epic final episode, we get a true sense of the complex motivations behind the war that is to come. None as sad as the loss of one of Rhaenyra's sons and his teen dragon at the hand of his one-eyed uncle.  

The siblings close with their enchantments from the week, Libby gushes over "Vikings Valhalla" on Netflix and Ted and MK list their top 5 horror flicks in honor of spooky season.

The new king is crowned and Rhaenys makes an unforgettable escape that is possibly the most exciting part of the season. Mk and Libby throw a few feminist rants into the mix and call Teddy out on some very concerning ideas he has about the 90's and Britney Spears... #freebritney

Stick around for the final segment where the siblings discuss their enchanting recommendations for the week, including "Last Night in Soho," "The Case Against Adnan Sayed" from HBO, and "Sorry to Bother You," on Netflix. 

MK flew out of town this week on dragonback, so Libby and Ted recap HotD episode 8 without their Gen Z counterpart. But don’t worry, she sends letters by owl throughout the show to share her wisdom from afar!

The elder siblings discuss who should lead Driftmark, the importance of legacy, and the tragic death of a second son who just couldn’t keep his mouth shut. They cheers to Paddy Considine as he leaves the show and brings King Viserys’s story to a stunning conclusion. His epic Grandpa Energy will be missed, although we can’t say the same for those disfiguring skin sores. Reconciliation between the Greens and the Blacks seems possible for a brief moment, but hopes are dashed by hot-headed teenage boys and a deathbed misunderstanding.

Don’t miss some enchanting recommendations in the final segment where Ted updates us with his thoughts on the "Rings of Power" (Amazon Prime) and Libby shares her favorite design show, “For the Love of Kitchens” from Magnolia Network.

Sisters MK and Libby continue their recap of the first season of House of the Dragon and Episode 7 entitled “Driftmark” does not disappoint. Back by popular demand, Brother Ted provides the recap again this week. Everything really is better when you have someone to mansplain it for you, right!?

The plot thickens as House Targaryen and House Valyrian are brought together for Laena’s funeral at Driftmark and not everyone gets along. The siblings reluctantly discuss the long-awaited “coupling” scene, the incredible she-dragon bonding moment, and the theatrical fight sequence between Rhaenyra and Alicent (soon to be the Blacks and the Greens.) Fans rejoice as their dragon dreams come true during that epic dragon shot containing the most dragons we've seen convened in one place. It's like a dragon party! (*Many nerd noises and cheers*) We end with a very unconventional wedding that might not have everyone in the realm celebrating.

The sisters let their brother Ted try "the art of recapping" on for size in this new episode covering House of the Dragon, Season 1 Episode 6 entitled "The Princess and the Queen." They discuss the episode as best they can, despite a 10-year time jump which leaves much to be desired in terms of plot holes and character development. But the new, aged-up cast brings their A-Game to help make the transition a little easier. The sisters hate on Alicent, love on House Strong and revel in Rhaenyra's unexpected love of motherhood. Theories abound, the future is discussed and a villain is born ...

The sisters are excited to head to Westeros this week to cover the royal wedding of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon. Blood will be spilled, the King will faint, the Queen will wear GREEN, and Daemon will wreak havoc ... but, by the Light of the Seven, the couple will be married by the end of the episode! 

Brother Ted is back again to help discuss all of the fun wedding drama, the swift and tragic departure of badass lady of the Vale Rhea Royce, and predictions for the second half of the season. The characters will be "aging up" next week and things are really going to heat up - hopefully with the help of lots of dragons. We want more dragons, please!

In this episode the sisters have chosen to recap an episode about incest with ... their brother! Woops! How were they to know House of the Dragon Episode 4 "King of the Narrow Sea" would be so messy? They power through the discomfort and dive deep into the most intense episode of the season. They discuss the male gaze (or in this case, the female gaze), the proper term for a whore house (sex worker facility?), and why there was a rat spotted in the King's bedroom. Patriarchy prevails in a show claiming to provide a feminist angle to the GOT universe, and they all feel confused by the empathy they feel for Otto when he's fired as Hand of the King.

Stick around til the end for a few delightful recommendations from the crew - Mainly "Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin," season 2 of "Only Murders in the Building" and something called ... football? Futbal? Footsball? GO SPORTS!

Things get real crabby as MK and Libby discuss House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 3 entitled "Second of His Name." Brother Ted helps mansplain a few things with some valuable backstory while sharing a story or two of his own. Listen on to learn which of the three has their own homegrown fantasy epic that is still to be published, and enjoy as they all work through things they should really be working through in therapy! Daddy issues, the power of vulnerability (thanks Brene Brown), and the true meaning of masculinity. Most importantly they discuss who really is worthy of being a "fantasy fan" based on working knowledge of imaginary worlds that don't ACTUALLY exist!? No fake fans, please ...

In the end, Ted and Libby give their initial feelings on the new highly-anticipated Lord of the Rings prequel series, "The Rings of Power" from Amazon (alllllll the nerdy feels, gorgeous costumes, where da hot elves at?), and MK shares complicated thoughts on the newest Jordan Peele horror flick, "Nope."

The sisters are starting their recap on a brand new show and that show is “House of the Dragon” (HotD), the “Game of Thrones” (GOT) prequel on HBO Max. MK and Libby decided to invite their brother Ted on the pod to get a different (nerd) perspective on the GOT and HotD universe. They dive deep into the first episode and discuss what worked and didn’t work for them. They also debate the level of celebrity of Matt Smith, predict what might happen in the rest of the show, and drool over Sir Criston Cole. At the end, they discuss what they’ve been watching recently, including “The Black Phone,” “Not Okay,” “The Bear,” “Men in Black,” and “The Mitchells vs. the Machines” (which made Ted sob).

In this episode, MK and Libby discuss the season three finale of “Britannia.” They ponder the important questions, like, “Did the writers base certain scenes on personal acid trips?” “Do we support women who worship satan?” and “Is this England?” At the end of the episode, the sisters talk about the Hulu show “Becoming Elizabeth” and Apple TV+’s “Shining Girls,” in addition to doing their best Love Island UK accents.

In the latest episode of Sisters Who Saga, MK and Libby discuss the penultimate episode of season three of "Britannia." They especially delight in discussing the epic fight at the end of the episode, and wonder if things could possibly get worse for the “Fellowship of the Spear.” Then at the end, the sisters discuss Hulu’s "The Great," the Sandra Bullock/Channing Tatum film "The Lost City," and FX’s "Under the Banner of Heaven." In this episode, MK and Libby recap the fifth episode of "Britannia." They reminisce about Hella asking Aulus, "Sure you want the other fellow to know?", Antedia detecting Divis' virgin status, and Quant's hilarious improvised song. Libby also discusses her thoughts on Disney+'s "The Book of Boba Fett" and MK regales  Libby with her opinions on the new "Scream" movie and the Hulu film "Fresh."

MK and Libby have a lot to say about the fourth episode of "Britannia," but in a good way! They ponder Lucius' beauty routine, praise Cait and her badass speech, and argue over what exactly the "great vision" actually was. At the end, MK talks about watching the newest film iteration of Libby's favorite musical, "West Side Story," and Libby finally gets to talk about her (unhealthy) obsession, "The Last Kingdom." We can't forget that a new line was also added to Hemple's best quotes list: "Thank you pretty tits."

MK and Libby continue their coverage of "Britannia" with a recap on the third episode. The sisters add more favorite Hemple quotes to their list, including when she asks Aulus if he's "a bit trembly wembly?" The Cait/Antidea team-up gives MK more of the Cait she knows and loves, and just like Aulus, MK and Libby wonder why he is Willa and the Veran's baby. MK talks about a new reality dating show with "old" people that she watched called "My Mom, Your Dad" and Libby discusses her disappointment with HBO Max's "The Gilded Age."

MK and Libby continue in their recap of "Britannia." In this episode, they discuss what goes down in season 3 episode 2, which to be honest, isn't much. Join in as they mourn Vitus, discuss Aulus' villain status, and gush over Antidea. At the end, Libby talks about "the sports" she's been watching and MK talks about her experience watching the South Korean zombie movie "A Train to Busan."

Sisters Who Saga is kicking off with EPIX and Amazon Prime Video’s "Britannia." We are recapping season 3 episode 1. "Britannia" is the story of the Roman invasion of Britain in 43AD that forces rival kingdoms to join forces. This may not seem like a fantasy show at first glance, but "Britannia" includes trips to the underworld, demons, prophecies, and more.
