Just Show Up
By Benjamin Hillman
This podcast is where I flesh out some ideas and try to stretch my mind about new topics. If you hate rambling, this isn't the podcast for you.

Just Show UpApr 17, 2023
Burnout Legends... but also don't burnout this week!
Don't burn out. Don't burn out. Don't burn out.
Last Week's Thoughts:
- Launched Paddle Studios, where I can showcase the work I'm involved in.
- Went a little too hard there, bud! Got close to burn out
- Burst of creativity... I guess I write songs now?
- Did pretty much everything I said I would
This Week's Plans:
- Mission statement: make it easier to make stuff
- My mission is to make it easier for other people to make stuff too, working through whatever barriers you may have whether it's financial, personal, etc... You make what matters to you.
- Don't burnout this week
- Lot of work left to do for Beyond the Budget: a podcast the looks at the person behind the CFO title.
Taking Charge: Setting Aside Time for Personal Projects
This week has been a rollercoaster of emotions and progress.
Last Week's Thoughts:
- I pondered over the incomplete projects and the need to prioritize them
- I reflected on the importance of work-life balance, especially when working from home (and taxes)
- I expressed my concerns about juggling multiple interests and not being able to focus on one particular niche
- I analyzed the challenges of finding a balance between personal passions and professional goals
This Week's Plans:
- Launch Paddle Studios, where I can showcase the work I'm involved in
- Prepare research questions for an upcoming interview with a project collaborator
- Work on the script for a new podcast trailer
- Dedicate a certain amount of time each night to working on my personal projects, such as video scripts and organization
Feels Like I'm Playing House
Welcome to "Just Show Up," a podcast where I, Ben Hillman, share my personal journey of self-discovery, creativity, and personal growth as I navigate through the ever-evolving landscape of life. After a two-year hiatus, I'm back and ready to tackle the challenges ahead, from working on exciting projects at my job to cultivating a fulfilling personal life. Each week, I will recap my experiences, discuss what's coming up, and provide valuable insights and advice to help you face your own struggles and triumphs. If you're looking for an honest and relatable podcast that will inspire you to show up, face your fears, and embrace the unknown, "Just Show Up" is the perfect place to start. Join me on this incredible journey as I learn, grow, and share my story with you.
Ben discusses his recent feelings of melancholy and the importance of working on personal projects alongside his professional work. He talks about his current job at Paddle, where he creates podcasts and videos, and how he still yearns to work on his YouTube channel. Ben shares his realization of feeling like he's "playing house" in his adult life, as well as the satisfaction and contentment he's found with his current situation. He touches on his anxiety disorder and the methods he uses to cope with it, including focusing on one task at a time through the use of to-do lists and productivity software like Notion. Finally, Ben sets goals for the upcoming week, which include creating a trailer for a new podcast, preparing a website launch, and keeping other ongoing projects on track.
I may have a few too many side-projects...

Why do YouTubers have studios? That's something I've wondered for a while. I want a big space with multiple different areas where work can take place... but is that just to feed my ego or is it somewhat necessary?

How to Persevere on YouTube in 2020

The biggest lesson I've learned recently is focusing on Actions instead of Results. If you want to Persevere on YouTube in 2020, you need to focus on what you can influence (your actions) instead of what you cannot directly control (views, subscribers, etc). I talk more about that in this episode.

Therapy has been immensely helpful for me. I understand that it isn't something that works for everyone but from my experience, I'd be remiss to say that it is helpful. My friend Briana Callahan and I started a podcast called Out of Network

We're all connected to each other with the touch of our button. We've never had this sort of relationship with each other before. Is an internet relationship the same as a "real world" relationship? Should we be using social media as a replacement for interactions or is it something that enhances our experience? Frankly, I don't know. But I'd like to find out.
