Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast - Ep. 22 - SummerSlam, Banks, Fiend Head

On this week's episode of the Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, we chat SummerSlam and Takeover results, Sasha Banks' return and The Fiend lantern.

This week Brandon and Jim take a closer look at the results from NXT Takeover: Toronto and SummerSlam, we talk The Fiend in-ring debut, Rollins winning the Universal Title, Raw and SmackDown, including King of the Ring and more.

This is a show definitely worth tuning into.

Show Notes:

We start by breaking down WWE's two big pay-per-views this past weekend. Was NXT Takeover: Toronto as good as other NXT pay-per-views in the past? Brandon believes one aspect of that show was top notch. What about SummerSlam? Was it an eventful show or were there just a couple of moments worth talking about?

One moment everyone is chatting about is The Fiend's wrestling debut and the lantern head he brought with him to the ring. What was that thing all about?

On Raw and SmackDown, the biggest moment of the week had to be the return of Sasha Banks. Did WWE get her return right? WWE also promoted the return of the King of the Ring tournament starting next week on Raw? Who has the best shot to walk away as the winner of that one and how predictable will the results be?

AEW announced a signing and All out is right around the corner.

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast - Ep. 21 - NXT, SummerSlam Predictions

On this week's edition of the Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, we talk NXT Takeover: Toronto and WWE SummerSlam predictions. The hosts hit each match, one-by-one and call their winners and finishes.

Calling the Johnny Gargano vs Adam Cole the match of the weekend, are there any other bouts that will make this weekend a can't miss weekend for WWE fans?

Show Notes

Brandon and Jim share their predictions and break down both the NXT Takeover: Toronto show on Saturday and SummerSlam on Sunday. Who will win, what will be the matches to watch? Will there be any surprises?

Jim notes a few unexpected ideas that he thinks might go on this Sunday and asks just how WWE intends to book someone like The Fiend in his match versus Finn Balor. Brandon wonders if there's even the slightest of chances Dolph Ziggler can pull off a win versus Goldberg.

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast - Ep. 20 - Race, AEW, The Revival

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast - Ep. 20 - Race, AEW, The Revival

On this week's episode of the Smart Marks of Wrestling podcast, we pay tribute to a legend of wrestling in Harley Race and talk AEW and the TNT debut episode plus The Revival and all things WWE.

On the 20th episode of the Smart Marks of Wrestling podcast, we pay our respects to Harley Race who passed away at the age of 76 on Thursday. We also chat the news coming out of AEW in respect to their debut episode on TNT in two months and how Cody turned Vince's words against him.

The Revival is, once again hinting at leaving WWE, this time hooking up with Arn Anderson and we talk early word about WWE SummerSlam plus do a quick review of Raw and SmackDown Live.

Brandon and Jim chat the very strange segment that was Roman Reigns being squashed by a bunch of backstage road cases and WWE backtracking on that idea, plus we chat Matt Riddle potentially ruining a SummerSlam surprise.

Is the SummerSlam show going to be worth watching? We chat about the card a little bit and set listeners up for our prediction show which will be next week.

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast - Ep. 19 - WWE Raw Reunion

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast - Ep. 19 - WWE Raw Reunion

On this week's episode of the Smart Marks of Wrestling podcast, we chat the WWE Raw Reunion, SmackDown Live, AEW's official tv announcement and speculation about NXT going up against them on Fox Sports 1.

Show Notes:

While Jim is on vacation in British Columbia, the show takes place from an irregular location. Not able to go tooth-and-nail through either Raw or SmackDown Live this week, there was enough content from YouTube videos and exclusive WWE.com content to know just what happened on the Raw Reunion show.

From The Fiend attacking Mick Foley to the new O.C. picking a fight with the oldest former factions in wrestling, the show had a lot to digest. The biggest takeaway might have been the Steve Austin interview at the end of the show and that half of the performers couldn't get cleared for any in-ring action.

We move onto SmackDown Live and Vince totally re-writing the show last minute. We cover AEW and their TNT announcement, touch on Jimmy Uso getting in legal trouble and more.

What did you think of the Raw Reunion? Are you like Steve Austin that wants to see them every year? Or, more like Sami Zayn who thinks they suck?

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast- Ep. 17 - Owens Promo and Extreme Rules

On this week's episode of the Smart Marks of Wrestling podcast, we talk the Kevin Owens promo on SmackDown, Raw taking a step backward, and predict Extreme Rules and more.

Show Notes:

Brandon and Jim break down a number of the best moments on Raw and SmackDown Live, including what might be the promo of the year when Kevin Owens dropped a modern-day "pipe bomb" on SmackDown.

We also chat about the Enzo Amore and Joey Janela confrontation outside the Blink 182 concert, LAX becoming free agents and WWE having interest in the tag team and then we move onto our Extreme Rules predictions.

Calling each match, Brandon and Jim both agree this might be one of WWE's more underrated cards of the year. With the potential for at least six match-of-the-year caliber bouts and a few surprising moments, this could be a fantastic show.

Smart Marks of Wrestling - Ep. 16 - Raw, SmackDown Under Heyman, Bischoff, Roman Reigns Interview

Smart Marks of Wrestling - Ep. 16 - Raw, SmackDown Under Heyman, Bischoff, Roman Reigns Interview

On this week's edition of the Smart Marks of Wrestling show, we talk Raw, SmackDown under Heyman and Bischoff plus exclusive Roman Reigns interview.

Show Notes:

We're finally able to talk about our interview with Roman Reigns! The Sportster was lucky enough to be granted a chance to chat with Roman Reigns as he promotes his new Hobbs and Shaw film and through Lipton Brisk, "Cans of Whup Ass." We got some great insight into what he thinks of the WWE brand split, AEW and his future in WWE.

We also talk the first Raw and SmackDown Live episodes under the Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff regime and chat AEW's Fyter Fest.

All this and more.

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast Ep. 15: Bischoff, Heyman, Rollins, More

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast Ep. 15: Bischoff, Heyman, Rollins, More

Bischoff and Heyman hired by WWE as Executive Producers for Raw and SmackDown? This and more on Ep. 15 of the Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast.

A few hours after we finished recording this week's show, big news dropped that Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff were being brought in by WWE to take over creative and run Raw and SmackDown Live as Executive Producers, reporting directly to Vince McMahon.

What will this mean for the two shows? Will they see facelifts and Bisch and Heyman get creative dominance over either or both shows? Or, is this more of people being brought in, offering their opinions and Vince still doing what he wants?

Show Notes:

Also on this week's show, we talk Stomping Grounds which was actually a strong PPV for WWE. We chat Raw and SmackDown Live which were also good. We talk Drake Maverick, Seth Rollins picking a beef with Will Ospreay and then almost everyone else and the Firefly Fun House friends showing up on Raw and SmackDown Live.

Brandon and Jim chat AEW Fyter Fest which is this Saturday and the card as it stands plus we talk about the greatest wrestlers on the planet right now.

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast Ep. 14: Stomping Grounds, Banks, AEW, More

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast Ep. 14: Stomping Grounds, Banks, AEW, More

On this week's episode of the Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, we cover the road to WWE Stomping Grounds, AEW news, a Lars Sullivan injury and give our feedback on Raw and SmackDown Live.

Show Notes

Does anyone care about Stomping Grounds? A pay-per-view being presented by WWE, the only reason a number of fans know who is wrestling on the card is because 75% of the matches have already happened. Competitors have either fought each other at Super ShowDown or WrestleMania 35 so the bouts feel recycled and less-than-anticipated.

But, will WWE pleasantly surprise fans?

Meanwhile, there is news that AEW is offering employment contracts to Superstars vs independent contractor deals, Sasha Banks retweeted a promotional video for AEW and the Road to Fyter Fest and All Out are much more exciting than anything WWE is putting on these days.

Finally, Lars Sullivan has gone down to a huge injury and could be out until WrestleMania 36. Karma? Maybe.

Drake Maverick wone the 24/7 Title, Will it show up at his real-life wedding? There are whispers of a possible Club Reunion? Mike and Maria Kanellis re-sign and more.

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast Ep. 13: Goldberg vs Undertaker Disaster

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast Ep. 13: Goldberg vs Undertaker Disaster

On this week's Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, many in the wrestling community are defending Undertaker vs Goldberg? Are we wrong to be critical?

Show Notes

The Undertaker versus Goldberg match was a disappointment to say the least and a disaster as categorized by many who saw it. Something that should have been 3 to 5 minutes tops, was booked to go 20 and went just over 9 before producers called it due to injury.

On this week's show, we talk the match, we talk response, we talk wrestlers feedback and call to be kind to both stars who did what they could. Who is to blame for this match?

We also get into AEW's Fyter Fest PPV being offered for free, we talk Bray Wyatt's new vignette, we get into Raw, SmackDown Live, title changes and more, including Sasha Banks doing work with WWE on the WWE2K20 game.

Smart Marks of Wrestling Episode 12: Moxley IWGP, Super ShowDown, More

Smart Marks of Wrestling Episode 12: Moxley IWGP, Super ShowDown, More

On this week's episode of the Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, we woke up Wednesday to see Jon Moxley was an IWGP Champion. Plus Super ShowDown news.

Jon Moxley has made waves since leaving WWE. He rode out his contract, put out a video minutes after it expired, debuted in AEW at Double or Nothing and is now the IWGP United States Champion after defeating Juice Robinson. Perhaps there's no other former WWE star that has seen his stock rise as quickly as Moxley's since leaving WWE.

Show Notes

Jim and Brandon start by talking about Moxley's work since leaving WWE, they move onto a breakdown of NXT Takeover: XXV, Raw and SmackDown Live and a closer look at Super ShowDown this Friday. Most of the conversation revolves around Goldberg vs. Undertaker, but some time is spent discussing the rumors surrounding Brock Lesnar and his cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase.

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast - Ep. 11 - Double or Nothing, Moxley Interview

Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast - Ep. 11 - Double or Nothing, Moxley Interview

In this week's episode of the Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, AEW's inaugural PPV is in the books and Jon Moxley tells all about his WWE exit while speaking with fellow AEW star Chris Jericho.

Episode 11 talks Double or Nothing, Jon Moxley's debut with AEW and his tell-all interview on Talk Is Jericho where he speaks openly about the final months of his stay in WWE. Moxley (formerly Dean Ambrose) doesn't mince words when describing the creative process in WWE, what he thinks of his former boss Vince McMahon and the exact moment he knew he was leaving the company. While entertaining, this interview doesn't shed a positive light on WWE.

He talks to Jericho for over an hour about how frustrated he was with the ideas being pitched to him, how much he had to fight to change things and the red tape that performers have to go through in WWE to not look like fools. The "WWE Machine" that is the infrastructure of the writing staff is what he believes is killing the company and he sends out a challenge to McMahon to improve the process.
