So Do We Still Like This?Aug 04, 2019
Episode 300 - 300
300. Damn. Episodes. Absolutely wild! I'm joined by wife who was there when it all started to once again rub it in her face that I have somehow done this for 300 weeks in a row. We briefly discuss the show itself, but we mostly talk about the movie 300! Get it? Cuz like...the movie name matches the episode number.
I also mentioned in the episode that I would give a shout-out to our frequent, and even one time, contributers so here we go. *deep breath*
Thank you (in no particular order) to - Wife, OG Sam, Sam Also, Rob, Kim, AK, my brother Chris, Jordan, Wadhah, Breanne, Laurel, Marianne, Kyle, Drea, Curtis, Outlaw Vern, Patrick Tumblety, Cassie Daley, Hailie Piper and Jessica Guess! ...that still doesn't even feel like everybody. Thank you all for your time and dedication! The show is nothing without you!
Episode 299 - Whiplash
A health scare isn't going to stop me from the final episode before episode 300! AK and I talk about the 2014 movie Whiplash and how it makes us never ever want to learn a new skill. Too bad, I was so ready to put in the work too but oh well.
Episode 298 - The Day of the Door and Chicken Run
Laurel Hightower has a fantastic new book called "The Day of the Door" and to keep in line with last year, we tried to see if we could make it fit alongside an early 2000's Mel Gibson movie. This time we went with Chicken Run and Laurel absolutely did her homework on this assignment.
Go buy Laurel's book! - https://ghoulish.rip/product/the-day-of-the-door/
Episode 297 - Home Improvement
*confused grunt noise* *grunt laugh* *double grunt laugh* *destroys appliance* *sad grunt noise*
Episode 296 - Beetlejuice
Podcast! Podcast! Podcast! There's a legacy sequel just around the corner and Kim has never seen Beetlejuice and Beetlejuice is amazing so there's three amazing reasons to do an episode about it!
Episode 295 - The Ring Two
Almost 20 years ago my friends and I came very close to walking out of the theatre during The Ring Two. Surely time has only been kind to this sequel right? ....right?
Episode 294 - Crossroads
There's no better gift from the Easter Bunny than for the Britney Spears movie Crossroads to be widely available to watch for the first time in years! So once you're done the easter egg hunt, gather the family around and listen to OG Sam and I talk about it.
...But also probably don't because even though this movie is PG as hell, I'm pretty sure we still curse a whole lot.
Episode 293 - The Butterfly Effect
This feels like EXACTLY the kind of episode we made this podcast for. A movie that we absolutely loved in 2004 is given a rewatch 20 years later and...well we have some things to say. Just like in the early days of this thing!
Episode 292 - The Village
It has been almost 20 years since The Village seemed to completely divide audiences. I was not on the positive side in 2004. Kim has always been on that side. Time to finally settle this and see who has the objectively correct opinion.
Episode 291 - Splash
Splash is turning 40...or actually just turned 40 yesterday...because Father Time is a cruel SOB and our own mortalities draw closer every day. So may as well enjoy our time with a breezy 80's comedy where Tom Hanks bones a mermaid!
Episode 290 - Solo: A Star Wars Story
It's time to continue taking Renee through the Star Wars stories and after the travesty that was the Holiday Special, it's a relief to upgrade to something that is merely "fine".
Episode 289 - Sliver
That's a wrap on Boning Month for 2024 and...wow. I think we can officially file this idea into the failure category. Look I don't think we expected much from 1993's Sliver but it couldn't even pass that low bar!
Episode 288 - Jade
Boning Month continues to be "JanuAgony But Sometimes with Sex" as we hit another bad movie that I clearly didn't research enough. AK and I are here to talk about David Curoso's attempt to launch himself into the world of film before being kicked right back into television. Time for Jade!
Episode 287 - Indecent Proposal
We welcome Tiff back to the show for what I thought was a 90's film classic, but it turns out nobody liked it then and well...we aren't big fans of it now either.
Episode 286 - Body of Evidence
One themed month ends and another begins! Say so long to JanuAgony and hello to Boning Month! This month we're doing another theme within a theme and watching nothing but 90's erotic thrillers! We kick things off with Body of Evidence - a movie literally about whether Madonna had sex with a dude so hard that he died. It's...unfortunately not as interesting as that makes it sound.
Episode 285 - Money Plane
Money Plane! JanuAgony comes to a close and Money Plane is the movie that will close it out. Money Plane. Who is watching Money Plane? I am watching Money Plane and my brother Chris is also watching Money Plane. Money Plane.
Episode 284 - A Good Man
Look, we all know that Steven Seagal is an objectively terrible person. I haven't seen any of his output from the last ten years or so, but I've heard the legends and wanted to finally see what was going on. Turns out...not much. Not much at all really. Sorry Sam Also!
Episode 283 - Cool Cat Saves the Kids
Kim continues on a weird tradition of having to watch a bad cat movie every year and this time...wow. This doesn't qualify as a movie or a PSA or cool or whatever else it claims to be. Come join us as we discuss Cool Cat and how he weirdly doesn't save a single kid!
Episode 282 - Fateful Findings
It's one of my favourite themed months - JanuAgony! A month where we purposefully watch a bunch of bad movies because sometimes you just need to point at something lesser than you and laugh.
Rob and I are once again kicking things off almost too strongly as we finally tip our toes into the world of Neil Breen.
Episode 281 - The Faculty
The last episode of 2023 and we decided to give ourselves a treat and discuss a movie we (Sam Also and I) know we like. Let's bring in the New Year together and celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Faculty!
Episode 280 - Scrooged
It's Christmas Eve everyone! Or it was when this went live, it may be like March now when you're listening to this. Kim and I watched the cynical 80's Bill Murray take on A Christmas Carol - Scrooged!
Episode 279 - Gremlins
Ok it's time to move away from awful Christmas movies with an actual classic! It's time for us to cover the other movie that gave us the PG-13 rating!
Episode 278 - Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas
We seem weirdly determined to only do terrible Christmas movies this month. Unlike The Star Wars Holiday Special, at least this one is hilariously bad. Kirk Cameron is here to make up a bunch of wild nonsense about Christmas and buying the DVD pays off way more than I ever could have expected.
Episode 277 - The Star Wars Holiday Special
It's December! Time to gear up for Christmas by looking at a bunch of holiday classics and we're kicking it off with...oh no. Ooooooooo nooooooooo.
Episode 276 - Inspector Gadget (1999 Movie)
Go Go Gadget Podcast! It's almost impressive that 276 episodes into this thing and we still haven't found the bottom. AK and I watched the 1999 live action Inspector Gadget movie and it may very well be the worst thing I've had to watch for this podcast. If you take a look back at our previous episodes, you'll realize just how wild a statement that actually is.
Episode 275 - Save the Last Dance
It's a rare blind spot for me in the world of early 2000's classic teen movies! Come hear us struggle to come up with meaningful stuff to say about 2001's Save the Last Dance!
Episode 274 - Talk to Me
Look...if there's one thing we've learned around these parts it's that sometimes podcast records fall apart (for completely justifiable reasons). If there's another thing I've learned, it's that I'm surrounded by amazing people who will step in to help ensure we don't lose our 274 episode streak.
We've mentioned the recent horror movie Talk to Me on several of our "what are you currently enjoying segments" so now it's time to go all in and spoil the shit out of it. Please watch the movie before you listen to this!
Episode 273 - How to Score Points in Nintendo Games
Kids today with their fancy internet have access to all kinds of video game cheats and walkthroughs at their fingertips all the time. Back in our day though, if you wanted the hottest Nintendo tips you had to pay $19.99 plus shipping and handling to have some random dude show you how to kinda but not really beat video games.
Today, Rob and I learn all the hottest tricks from World Video Game Champion Skip Rodgers and we're here to pass those tricks on to you!
Episode 272 - Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum
AK and I aren't going to let colds and Covid stop us from talking about Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum because it's Halloween damn it! Found Foctober comes to an end but don't shed any tears yet! We have one more for you before chaos reigns in November and we can do whatever we want again (and according to this episode, apparently what we want to do is the live action Matthew Broderick Inspector Gadget movie).
Episode 271 - Hell House LLC
Kim is back for a second dose of Found Foctober! I've spent years hearing about Hell House LLC and surely a horror movie that has three sequels HAS to be good. Let's get our creepy clown mannequins on!
Episode 270 - As Above So Below
Tiff joins me to talk about a movie I was lukewarm on when it released, but have spent nearly a decade hearing is a super under-appreciated masterpiece. We're going to provide the objective answer!
Be sure to visit Tiff's website to view/purchase her work and keep up with what she's up to - Tiffany Michelle Brown – Horror Writer (tmbwrites.com)
Episode 269 - Noroi: The Curse
Found Footage October (or Found Foctober as the cool kids are calling it) rolls on as we move to a movie neither Sam Also or I had ever even heard of. It's 2005's Noroi: The Curse, a movie we respected so much that we do our damndest to not spoil any of it.
Episode 268 - Grave Encounters
It's somehow already October which means a month of horror and this year we're doubling down with a theme within a theme! Not only is it all horror - but it's all found footage horror!
We start things off with Grave Encounters, a movie I last watched when completely high on pain killers. Let's see what Kim and I think of a pain killer free watch!
Episode 267 - The Rundown
It's the 20th anniversary of The Rock's big action debut "The Rundown" or apparently "Welcome to the Jungle" as Rob has always known it. Let's see how far he's come in the last twenty years but mostly let's argue about Taylor Swift and Tom Cruise!
Episode 266 - Sinister
Science once determined this is the scariest movie ever made (though apparently it has since been dethroned) so let's expose AK to it for the first time and see if the science is correct!
Episode 265 - Simon Sez
It's the back half of our weird Simon Says/Sez double bill! This week we have the 1999 "action" "comedy" "thriller" Simon Sez with Dennis Rodman. Oh and Dane Cook is there to make sure you never, EVER, want to see Dane Cook again in your life.
Episode 264 - Simon Says
While this plan doesn't quite touch the strangeness of last year's "Swimfan September" we're still going a little weird to kick off the month. We're doing a Simon Says/Sez double bill! An obscure slasher movie from 2006 and an obscure action movie from 1999! And no, we absolutely have never seen either one.
We're starting off with the slasher as Sam Also and I indulge in some good old fashioned Crispin Glover weirdness.
Episode 263 - Can't Hardly Wait
It seems insane that we hadn't done this movie yet but it's nice to know we still have banger topics to pull out by episode 263. Let's delve into the world of teens and their teen problems with Can't Hardly Wait!
Episode 262 - Baby's Day Out
Children's movies from the 1990's don't often work out for us here but surely one where a baby almost inadvertently murders a bunch of dudes will come through right? OG Sam and Jordan join me to find out! It's Baby's Day Out!
Episode 261 - A Walk to Remember
It's our second journey into the world of Nicholas Sparks after doing The Notebook about 200 episodes ago! This time Marianne joins me to see if this walk is indeed one to remember or one to simply pass the time before doing something cooler besides just walking.
Episode 260 - Barbarian
Once again I continue to prove I have no concept of what movies Kim actually enjoys as I unleash Barbarian on her! Yes this movie is not even a year old but don't worry we justify it!
Episode 259 - Super Mario Bros (1993)
It's about time we got to the OG Super Mario Bros movie! Is it appropriately maligned or an underappreciated classic? Or just some boring middle ground? AK and Sam Also join me to get to the truth once and for all!
Episode 258 - The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Episode 257 - Showgirls
Sonora Taylor and Tiffany Michelle Brown join me to talk about one of the greatest works of our generation - 1995's Showgirls!
Buy Sonora's books!
Buy Tiffany's new book "How Lovely to be a Woman"!
Episode 256 - F**k it, We're Doing Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey
Ok yes it's only a few months old but there was zero chance we weren't going to chat about that movie where Winnie the Pooh and Piglet murder a bunch of women in the woods.
Episode 255 - The Star Wars Prequels
An episode that has been literally years in the making has finally come to fruition! Renee continues her journey through the Star Wars movies for the first time as we knock out episodes 1, 2 and 3 in a single go.
And yes, we have indeed already done an episode on Phantom Menace but when has that ever stopped us before?
Episode 254 - Ready or Not (the early 90's TV Show)
It's a double dose of things called Ready or Not! We did the movie, now it's time for the TV show. OG Sam and Breanna join me to talk about the show but also mostly sex ed and periods.
Episode 253 - Ready or Not (the 2019 movie)
After The Thing I promised Kim some strong women in the next movie we watched and I felt I delivered! Did Kim like Ready or Not? Was she too distracted by Samara Weaving to even notice if the movie was good? Come find out!
Episode 252 - Freakylinks
Remember this short lived "X-Files meets The Blair Witch Project" from the year 2000? Because I sure do! It's time to find out whether the show was ahead of its time or just a pale imitation. Or some other third option I guess.
Episode 251 - Dr. Giggles
The journey to episode 300 begins! As you know the goal is always to make an episode longer than the source material and we absolutely crushed it this week as we break down the 1992 slasher movie Dr. Giggles. Joining me on this journey is returning favourite Laurel Hightower and newcomer to the show Patrick Tumblety. Be sure to check out the links to their work below and enjoy the episode!
