Matt Shafer currently serves as the Deputy Director at the National Center for Interstate Compacts at The Council of State Governments. Matt works with state legislators and stakeholder groups to support the enactment of compacts for cosmetology, massage therapy, social work, dietitians, and dentistry. Matt has vast experience developing and building consensus on policy options for state legislators.
Matt has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Kentucky.

In 2022, Olivia earned a Masters in social work with a specialization in community, policy, and political social action. While Olivia was completing her MSW, she served as the NASW-NYS Chapter’s policy assistant. In this position, Olivia coordinated the Chapter’s first in-person advocacy day, assists with developing the Chapter’s policy priorities and provides information to members on New York state policy relevant to the social work profession. Olivia became the Policy Coordinator at NASW-NYS in March 2023.

Michaella Conteh, MSW, ASW is a Child Welfare Social Work Supervisor, and University Adjunct Professor for the Department of Social Work. Michaella graduated from California State East Bay University with her Masters in Social Worker and as a Title IV-E student. Michaella also graduated from Sacramento State University with her Bachelors of Art in Child Development. In June 2021, Michaella wrote and published a book entitled, "How To Survive as a Child Welfare Social Worker." Michaella’s motivation for writing this book is to have a resource available to child welfare social workers and social workers who are considering entering the child welfare field. When Michaella is not working as a Child Welfare Social Worker, she loves spending time with her husband and her adorable daughters, travel, exercise and just enjoy life.

This episode is a little different, you will hear me be interviewed as a guest on the Courage Over Fear Your Tube Channel by Amanda Fludd, LCSW. This was part of her series for Social Work month on what it means fo Break Barriers in Social Work.


Amanda Fludd is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Entrepreneur combining her expertise in Psychotherapy and Coaching to create experiences and transformations for her clients.  Her life-changing work is done through retreats, group coaching, speaking, and one-on-one sessions. As a Mental Health Expert for over 15+ years, she understands the unique connection our minds, bodies, and traumas play in how we show up (or don’t) in our business and other relationships.

Amanda is also an avid runner and travels all over the country, participating in running events, including a Half Marathon in Alaska. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, she now resides in NYC with her husband and two kiddos.
