Bear hosts the podcast for the very first time. Bear and Gilbert have a discussion about how being self aware plays such an important role in life. #38 Emotional Trauma with Phillip Rendon & Victor Vega

#38 Emotional Trauma with Phillip Rendon & Victor Vega

As Humans we are born as close to emotionally flawless as we will ever be. As kids we are molded by our experiences and the people in our lives. We are so impressionable in our youth that some sort of emotional trauma is inevitable.

There may be different levels of severity that one may suffer from. All the way from the child that was sexually abused and now feels ashamed and worthless to the child who was over protected and wanted for nothing, but now as an adult feels inadequate and hopeless.

No matter the life circumstances, there is no escaping emotional trauma. There is nothing we can do as parents or guardians to prevent our children from experiencing it in one way or another. We will not stop future generations from feeling this pain, but we can put a stop to to their suffering of it. A good way to start accomplishing just that is for us adults to talk about how emotional trauma has effected us and more importantly what methods we have used to turn our suffering into empowerment

#35 - 48 Laws of Power Series Law 7 "Get others to do the work for you, but always take the credit"

#35 - 48 Laws of Power Series Law 7 "Get others to do the work for you, but always take the credit"

Judgement: Never do for yourself what the efforts of others can do for you. Use their wisdom and knowledge to further your own cause. In doing so, you will appear intimidatingly efficient and knowledgeable. Ultimately, those who worked for you will be forgotten and you will be remembered. If you think it's important that you do all the work yourself, you wont get far. Consequently, find those with skills you lack and find a way to either take their work as your own or hire them and put your name on their efforts. However, to do this effectively, your position must be secure, as otherwise people will call you out for deception.

Gilbert tells his story of how when he started his first company he was a sub-contractor for a bigger company. He did all jobs through them and from the outside it looked like he worked for them as an employee which later come back to haunt him...

#34 - 48 Laws of Power Series Law 6 "Court attention at all cost"

Judgement: Everything is judged by it's appearance; what is unseen counts for nothing. Never let yourself get lost in the crowd, then or buried in oblivion. Stand out. Be conspicuous, at all cost. Make yourself a magnet of attention by appearing larger, more colorful, more mysterious than the bland and timid masses.

In this episode, Gilbert tells his story of how he used this law as a teenager to change his image in a desperate attempt to stop from being bullied and to fit in.

The 48 Laws of Power Series

Is going to be a great way for future students and parents of students to learn about my wife and I, the founders and Operators of Solid Foundations.

In this series of podcasts we will be discussing the Laws of Power and how we either use them or they use us. I’m sure if you are listening to this podcast you are familiar with Solid Foundations Mission, you know everything we do is to instill confidence in our youth. With that being said I thought it would be cool to start a mini series that allows us to tell stories of our past particularly as a teen and into our early 20’s. These stories will describe how we personally fell victim to, or used to our advantage each of the 48 Laws of Power that Robert Greene wrote about in his book.

Don’t worry, of course we will continue to do our regular program, we have plenty of guest lined up and will continue to keep uploading those important interviews.

As always, I hope we deliver some value to you through our podcast.

These episodes will best serve those who want POWER, observe Power or wish to arm themselves against POWER...

#23 You can't move away from your past with Albert Carrasco

Albert grew up in an abusive home, at the age of 6 an incident at home got himself along with his brother and sisters sent to an orphanage. Albert was forced to grow up fast and felt alone most of his childhood. He started hanging out with the wrong crowd as a teenager and soon found himself relying on violence to not only survive, but to fit in as well. Right after high school he left his home town of San Diego and moved to Santa Barbara where he attended UCSB and joined the Marine Reserves. He later opened up his own business and had legitimate success, but his past along with a relationship gone bad sucked him back into depression and without knowing how to cope with this Albert began to drink heavily. Before he knew it he had hit rock bottom. It was then that Albert started to turn his life around. He used fitness specifically body building as therapy and now is on a mission to teach the youth the powers of Fitness.

#22 Regretful past and early years of sobriety With Daniel Andrade

#22 Regretful past and early years of sobriety With Daniel Andrade

In this episode I talk with Daniel Andrade an old homie of mine from back in my teenage years. We both claimed the same neighborhood and partied a lot together. As time went on we started making different decisions which lead us on separate paths. In his story you will learn how he went from drinking and smoking weed while partying to becoming a full blown drug addict. His curiosity of wanting to try coke eventually lead to even harder drugs like Glass and Heroin. Drug use took over Daniels life and to this day he regrets actions he took during those times. After years spent in county jail and a trip to prison, Daniel was given the chance to attend the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Program in Santa Monica. I’ve interviewed other graduates on the Solid Foundation Podcast from the same Program and from what I’ve learned, it’s a powerful place of healing. I truly hope that Daniel, like the other men I’ve interviewed before him becomes a productive member of society and has the heart to help others in need. Daniel is just over 3 years sober and knows he has a long journey ahead of him, but like he says...all he can do is take it day by day. With that being said, I hope you find value in this episode. If you find value in this episode, please share. I also wanted to let you know that Solid Foundation classes will be allowed to open again soon. If you’re a parent that wants your kids to gain confidence through work ethic, martial arts, fitness and family values e-mail me at

#14 Honor roll to gang member with Gilbert Regalado II

#14 Honor roll to gang member with Gilbert Regalado II

As far back as I can remember my mother made it a point to be home with us and put her heart and soul into raising not only her children, but also many cousins around my age.  Our days were filled with trips to the park and hours upon hours at the beach. Another way we learned to enjoy ourselves was when my mom would have us put on the gloves to box each other or go at it wrestling. Inevitably someone would start crying, but we we’re never to quit and when all said and done we shook hands and went on playing. Another great memory is my dad coming home from work and somehow always finding the energy to play with me, it just so happens one of my favorite things to play with him was to fight. This was especially enjoyable because unlike fighting my older cousins in the front yard, in these fights I somehow came up on top every time or at least that’s what he lead me to believe, but either way it did wonders for my confidence. I must say, I was absolutely lucky to have such loving parents and very fortunate to have the childhood I did.

Now after hearing what I just shared about my childhood, it would be pretty hard to believe that for some mysterious reason as I hit puberty and became a teenager that I would consider the very parents that showed me so much love and support, now my enemies. Also for reasons I couldn’t understand, I became absolutely terrified of fighting which lead to me not sticking up for myself, which lead me to be seen as weak and therefore picked on regularly.

I often self reflect on the choices I made as a teenager and all the bad things I put my parents through and I can remember even back than having a sense of guilt of why I felt and acted the way I did coming from such a loving home. I would see others around me who had it real bad at home, but in my young mind that didn’t make me feel better, it actually lead me to feel even worse about myself. After battling with all these negative thoughts day in and day out, it was only a matter of time before I just decided to stop feeling any type of emotions at all. I’m sharing all this with you to spread awareness that our youth, no matter their background can fall victim to all the evil things this world has to offer. Good parenting is a solid foundation no doubt, with that being said, it’s only natural to start to rebel against our parents or any childhood authority figures for that matter as we become teens. It’s my belief that at this time that we also need something else we can be a part of, to be heard and seen by others. Other peers we can contribute to and gain significance from. Some may find it in a positive form like school, sports or a job, others may follow a more negative path and turn to drugs, unhealthy relationships or breaking the law.

The following is my story and how I went from a Honor Student to Gang Member…

#13 Gangs aren’t going away with Phillip Rendon

In this episode I speak with an older homie of mine, Phillip Rendon. Phillip came up about 2 generations before me, though still we share a lot in common. We are both family men and entrepreneurs, but before that we both had been jumped in to the East Side Krazies by the age of 15. Fortunately it didn’t take long for us to figure out we were setting ourselves up for failure with the choices we had been making as young teens. We noticed a lot of homies were dying, going to prison or becoming dope feens and that if we didn’t change our actions, we would suffer the same fate. In the following discussion we speak about events that helped us start making better life decisions and the path we have been on to help others to do the same.

Podcast 11: Bears experience with boys

Podcast 11: Bears experience with boys

On this episode I sit down with my youngest daughter Bear. It’s a talk that many daughters and fathers dread or neglect to have, even worse a lot of teenage girls don’t have a positive male figure in their life to even speak to if they wanted to. Our talk is about “boys” and in particular bears relationships to boys. As a teen myself, I witnessed firsthand, some girls who were told by parents they couldn’t talk to boys, they had to dress a certain way and would be punished if their parents found out otherwise. Typically these girls would come to school wearing one thing leaving the house only to change into something else at school. They also were the ones Who were the most wild and miss treated by boys. Unfortunately these young ladies acted like that because they didn’t know any better and didn’t have someone who loved them to teach them different. It is my hopes that this episode helps to create more open conversations between parents and their children. Also that it serves as a source of knowledge for those young ladies who can’t talk to someone about these topics.
