In conversation with the Irida Women's Centre

This episode, we talk to Lydia Siapardani from the Irida Center about the work they do to support women in the area. The centre aims to provide support to women in all areas, offering protection services, legal aid, education, recreational activities, social connections and emergency response. Politics of Pity with Dr Cathy Elliott

Politics of Pity with Dr Cathy Elliott

In this episode, we speak to Dr Cathy Elliot from the UCL School of Political Science about the 'politics of pity'.

The ways in which we, as those who are frequently the providers, as opposed to the beneficiaries of financial and other forms of aid, view and relate to those we seek to help is a notoriously complex issue.

When people are only motivated to help others to dispel their own feelings of discomfort, upholding respect and dignity, and providing empowering aid becomes difficult.

In this episode we explore the concepts of saviourism, compassion fatigue, and storytelling as a means to effect change.
