Understanding PCOS, Insulin Resistance/Blood Sugar Balance & Perimenopausal Changes with Brie Wieselman, Integrative Practitioner (From Personal & Professional Experience Helping Women THRIVE).

This week Rye & Jess chat with Brie Wieselman, licensed primary care provider and medical director of Brie Wieselman Integrative Health. Besides being an expert in hormone balance, fertility, and perimenopause, Brie specializes in helping people heal digestive problems such as IBS, Ulcerative Colitis, parasitic infections, Candida overgrowth, and SIBO to rebuild a bulletproof microbiome.

During this conversation, Brie shares her experience getting diagnosed with PCOS as a teen, and how she was able to relieve severe symptoms through lifestyle and nutrition adjustments. Brie explains how PCOS is diagnosed, the connection to insulin resistance, and actionable steps to become more insulin sensitive. Brie shares her honest opinion on herbs and supplements for PCOS and insulin resistance, and when it’s necessary to use medication like metformin and spironolactone, as well as thoughts on hormonal birth control.

Brie also gets vulnerable about the ups and downs she experienced in perimenopause – including being pregnant with gestational diabetes, having a baby at 40 during covid then experiencing back to back life-changing circumstances in her personal life.

We are so grateful to Brie for being so honest with us, as well as for the incredible work she does helping women every day!

In this episode, they discuss:

Life/Podcast UPDATES w/ Rye… Let us Know What you Think About THESE New Episode Ideas!

Life/Podcast UPDATES w/ Rye… Let us Know What you Think About THESE New Episode Ideas!

In this week’s mini episode, Rye shares some work/life updates, plus some MAJOR podcast news!

As Rye explains in this episode, we are considering switching to 4 new episode styles and would LOVE  to hear from YOU (and in exchange for providing your feedback, you'll be entered to win a 20 count Ultima Electrolyte variety pouch, 30 lemonade canister + water bottle!). Tune into the episode for more details!

To recap, these are the 4 episode concepts we're considering switching to (alternating between them every other week)

#1: Coaching style episodes w/ @bodyblissbyjess. Think: 45min episodes, 1 hot topic at a time, pulling from what she’s learned helping hundreds of clients over the past 7 years...to help YOU achieve your health goals. (@ryeburch will interview Jess in some of these interviews)

#2- Stories from women who’ve overcome difficult life experiences that impacted their health/self/relationships, etc…including taboo topics like miscarriage, infidelity, drug / alcohol addiction, postpartum, plastic surgery, grief, divorce, etc. We want to reduce the shame associated with many of these topics and provide helpful advice for anyone going through these experiences!

#3- Monthly solo sister chats, such as our best + worst habits or daily rituals that are working or not working for us!

#4- Conversations with our mom, Hormone Health Educator, Candace Burch (MA), either in a roundtable format, or 1:1 with either Rye or Jess. We will review hormone health related trends and controversial news stories – giving our two cents – to help reduce the confusion and overwhelm in the hormone health world!

To provide your feedback on these episode concepts and enter to win our giveaway (running through 10/21/23), head over to the @solo2.0podcast on Instagram and leave a comment on the post that clearly says “we want your feedback!” If you are listening to this after the giveaway period has ended and want to share what topics would be most helpful to you, we are always open to feedback and you can DM us @solo2.0podcast or email us at Solo2.0podcast@gmail.com

THANK YOU for your support of our podcast so far 🙏

We can’t wait to hear what you think!

Exploring Unconventional Approaches to Fertility, Pregnancy and Birth with Nathan Riley, OB/GYN. Including Thoughts on: Male Infertility, C sections, Circumcisions, Home Births and Egg Freezing!

Exploring Unconventional Approaches to Fertility, Pregnancy and Birth with Nathan Riley, OB/GYN. Including Thoughts on: Male Infertility, C sections, Circumcisions, Home Births and Egg Freezing!

It's time for part 2 with Dr. Nathan Riley, the "Holistic OB/GYN," who helps us explore alternative or "unconventional" approaches to fertility, pregnancy and birth that provide greater autonomy AND support for women, their partners and (future) children.

(If you missed our last episode with Dr Riley from 12/2022, you can listen HERE. That episode reviews the flaws of our current medical system - from Dr Riley's perspective as an OB/GYN, having spent years working in hospitals, tending to women's health issues and delivering over 1000 babies).

IN THIS PART II CONVERSATION WE DISCUSS:

  • Concerns regarding surgical interventions in pregnancy (c-sections, vitamin K shot, circumcisions)
  • The connection between c sections and gut issues
  • The origin story of midwifery
  • Benefits of home birth VS. hospital birth (who is right for?)
  • Difference between a midwife + doula
  • Fertility optimization for women AND men
  • Male infertility factors
  • Insights on egg freezing

And finally, we talk about Nathan’s incredible new course the “born free method” - which you can check out at bornfreemethod.com. It’s a 12 month mastermind for soon to be parents who want to feel empowered, confident and informed about their pregnancy and childbirth journey (with an emphasis on home births). >> USE CODE "SOLO10" for 10% off the Born Free Method Course

MORE ABOUT DR RILEY

Dr Riley is a board-certified OB-GYN and fellow of ACOG who left the medical industrial complex due to his disillusionment with the “standard of care” within the conventional maternity care model. This was hard because “going with the flow” of hospital-based practice was providing him financial security. On the other hand, standing in his truth from having sat with over 1000 births and connecting with women and their families has provided him a lifestyle more in alignment with fatherhood, deepening his connection with his wife, and caring for people in the way that he had anticipated long before stepping into practice.

Dr. Riley now focuses his time on upholding the traditional practice of midwifery. He supports midwives as a collaborative physician in over twenty states. He is an advocate for home birth and still attends births for those in need. He boasts a c-section rate of

Dr. Riley is the father of two, the second of whom was born at home, and he is proudly married to his highschool sweetheart.

  • How incentive structures work at hospitals
  • How to communicate with your doctor and advocate for your hormone health
  • How the traditional western model of medicine came into existence

The Ups + Downs of Entrepreneurship in the Health + Wellness Industry. Intro w/ Rye (sharing some REALNESS); Interview w/ Top Female Founder, Krista Berlincourt, CEO / Co-Founder of Kensho Health

Today is an episode focused on the realness of becoming an entrepreneur / building a brand in the health + wellness space.

Ryan shares some REALNESS in the intro, pulling back the curtain a bit to share what it's been like building Your Hormone Balance over the past 4+ years...SPOILER: It's not been easy!!

Our guest is Krista, Co-Founder of Kenshō Health. We dig deep into her journey from multi passionate student from Eugene, to the start of an extremely successful career before she even graduated college!

Like most entrepreneurs in the health and wellness space, Krista experienced her own major health struggles, which really became a turning point in her life and ultimately led to the birth of Kensho health- which started as a high-touch service providing patients with personalized provider recommendations in the functional / integrative care space, based on symptoms and health goals. But based on user feedback, extensive research, and bringing on Classpass's former CEO Michael Wolf as an advisor, Kenshō decided to move into the Health Coaching space.

Kenshō now offers a proprietary health coaching program that pairs members with elite certified Kenshō Health Coaches to drive awareness around health goals, put these goals into action, and hold them accountable along the way.
