S2: Episode 07 - Caught After Death: Reverse DNA / Forensic Genealogy Exposes Michael Sumpter

Thanks for dropping by and listening to Solve Crimes’ series, “Caught After Death”. With recent advancements in Reverse DNA / Forensic Genealogy searches, law enforcement detectives working on cold cases are excited to close some of their most frustrating unsolved murders.

Michael Sumpter terrorized the city of Boston in the late sixties through the mid seventies. Sumpter had a lengthy record with many sexual assault charges, but no murders. While serving 15 years for a 1975 assault of a Boston woman, he was released to hospice care and died of cancer in 2001.

In 2018, with the help of Reverse DNA and Forensic Genealogy, the brutal truth was revealed what Michael Sumpter really was - a cold blooded killer. Thankfully, three families finally have closure on who killed their loved ones fifty years ago.

The problem is that these families will never see Sumpter pay for his crimes. He’ll never hear a heart wrenching or angry victim’s impact statement from them. He will never be formally charged, tried, convicted, sentenced and serve prison time for taking their loved ones away from them.

S2: Episode 04 - Caught After Death: Reverse DNA / Forensic Genealogy Exposes Kenneth Gould

Welcome to Season 2 of Solve Crimes!

Thanks for dropping by and listening to Solve Crimes’ new series, “Caught After Death”. With recent advancements in Reverse DNA / Forensic Genealogy searches, law enforcement detectives working on cold cases are excited to close some of their most frustrating unsolved murders.

Another recent success is from the Cascade County Sheriff's Office in Montana. They may have just cracked the oldest cold case using Reverse DNA  or Forensic Genealogy last month in June 2021 - 65 years after the double homicide of two young kids in Great Falls, Montana.

Cascade County Sheriff Detective Sgt. Jon Kadner took over the case in 2012 and quickly got to know the ins and outs of the case that dated back to 1956 when a 16-year old girl and her 18-year old boyfriend were accosted and their lives taken that night.

With the help of Bode Technology - a Virginia based company and the same firm that helped investigators nab The Golden State Killer in 2018 - and some relatives willing to provide DNA samples, they were able to definitively confirm that Kenneth Gould was their killer. Gould - who lived roughly a mile from the female victim - had died in 2007. He quite literally got away with murder his entire life.

Kenneth Gould was never questioned by law enforcement. Not as a witness, not as a suspect.

S2: Episode 02 - They Killed Their Parents: Edmund Kemper and Joel Guy, Jr.

S2: Episode 02 - They Killed Their Parents: Edmund Kemper and Joel Guy, Jr.

Welcome to Season 2 of Solve Crimes!
Thanks for dropping by and welcome to Solve Crimes’ new series, “They Killed Their Parents”. One thing we want to make clear is that we will attempt to tell stories of interest in the True Crime genre, not to glorify these killers or their horrible acts.

This - and other series - will be documentary style for those of you who find True Crime fascinating and intriguing. In between the cases that we are actively investigating, we’ll be posting true crime content like this. We hope you find them interesting and entertaining.

Let us know in the comments if you like this particular series and want us to make more. You can also let us know if you have any specific requests and we’ll absolutely look into it.
By the title alone, you can tell that this a pretty dark topic and these two convicted parent killers committed acts as dark as you could possibly imagine.

We’ll first take a look at Edmund Kemper, III. We will be doing a deeper dive on Mr. Kemper in the near future since he is not only a parent killer but an overall serial killer, so we’ll pretty much focus on the topic at hand for this episode. Not only did Ed Kemper kill a parent, he also killed his paternal grandparents when he was just 15 years old.
In the second half of this episode, we’ll present “Diabolical Stew”, the story of Joel Michael Guy, Jr. This is a more recent case from 2016 with Guy being sentenced just this past October 2020. He murdered both of his parents in Knoxville, Tennessee on November 26, 2016. Then he dismembered them and tried to dissolve all traces of them in a mixture of harsh chemicals. All because his parents planned on cutting him off financially.
Buckle up. These are a couple of horrific stories we’re about to tell.

S2: Episode 01 - Sara's Truth, Part 01: What is the California Department of Justice Hiding?

(This episode is proudly sponsored by Anchor.fm)

Welcome to Season 2 of Solve Crimes!

In this episode, we discuss the death of Sara Matthews Easton on August 16, 2015 in Yuba City, CA – a Solve Crimes EXCLUSIVE – and why the California Department of Justice has buried the case for nearly six years, leaving the Matthews family without answers to what happened to Sara. Could what they are doing have anything to do with the US Senate campaign launched in 2015 by then California Attorney General (and current US Vice President) Kamala Harris? If not, then WHY have they apparently given up on providing Sara's family with simple answers to simple questions like, "What was the manner of Sara's death?"

Sara was the wife of the police chief of the Marysville Police Department at the time of her death. Her husband said she killed herself with his service weapon. Our sources tell us that – while that is true – she had TWO bullets put into the left side of her head...and Sara was right handed.

Help us – and Sara's family – as we seek to uncover Sara's Truth and provide the family with some closure so they can move forward once and for all. You aren't going to want to miss this case as it unfolds.

After you listen to this episode and you can take a few moments out of your day to help the Matthews family, here is the contact info where you can request/demand that Sara's case be finalized. Please be respectful and brief in your requests.

Episode 21 - Introducing Sara's Truth: The Mysterious Death of Sara Matthews Easton

Episode 21 - Introducing Sara's Truth: The Mysterious Death of Sara Matthews Easton

This episode is proudly sponsored by Anchor.fm!

In this episode, Rick & Gavin give a brief overview of a case they've been investigating for months; the death of Sara Matthews Easton on August 16, 2015 in Yuba City, CA – a Solve Crimes EXCLUSIVE. Sara was the wife of the police chief of the Marysville Police Department at the time of her death. Her husband said she killed herself with his service weapon. Our sources tell us that – while that is true – she had TWO bullets put into the left side of her head...and Sara was right handed.

Because of local conflicts of interest, the State of California's Department of Justice – headed by Attorney General Kamala Harris at the time – took over the case but in nearly six years has yet to provide Sara's family with a conclusion. Was it suicide or was it murder? Why have they not closed this case?

Help us – and Sara's family – as we seek to uncover Sara's Truth and provide the family with an answer once and for all. You aren't going to want to miss this case as it unfolds.

Episode 20 - Psycho Killers Ed Kemper, Harold Shipman, Louis Garavito and Rex Krebs

This episode is proudly sponsored by Anchor.fm!

In this episode, Rick & Gavin discuss a few upcoming YouTube episodes featuring well-known psycho killers: Ed Kemper, Harold Shipman, Louis Garavito and Rex Krebs. What makes a killer psycho? Do they ALL come from crappy childhoods, is it genetics...or a combination?

These killers were prolific and horrific. Louis Garavito was known as "The Beast" in Columbia where police have confirmed over 100 murders while Garavito says it is more than 300. The worst part? ALL of his murder victims were children.

Episode 19 - Will We Be Exhuming Amanda Wienckowski's Body...Again?

This episode is proudly sponsored by Anchor.fm!

In this episode, Rick & Gavin discuss the new Amanda Wienckowski YouTube video which explores whether or not Amanda was tasered before being killed. We believe that she was and in order to prove that, we are preparing to have her body exhumed – for a second time. Since the Erie County Medical Examiner's office refuses to look at any new evidence, we will have to provide it in court and force them to change their findings to murder.

On December 5th, 2008 at 6:00PM, 20-year-old Amanda Wienckowski stepped inside the home of Antoine Garner at 157 Spring Street in Buffalo, NY's East Side. That was the last time anyone saw her alive. She was found seven weeks later stuffed naked, frozen solid, and upside down into a Buffalo, NY garbage can. The Erie County Medical Examiner's office ruled her heath an accidental opiate overdose. In today's episode, we're proving why that cause and manner of death is wrong.

Episode 14 - What Happened to 'Instagram Influencer' Alexis Sharkey?

This episode is proudly sponsored by Anchor.fm!

We’ve talked about high-risk people before. Drug addicts, prostitutes,  runaways, etc. In this episode, we're talking about Alexis Sharkey. On  the surface, she wasn’t what most people would consider to be a high  risk person. Alexis was an Instagram influencer. She was glamorous, but  as we scratch just below the surface of her public persona, we'll  discover that she actually was pretty high risk.

Alexis Sharkey was found dead and naked alongside a frontage road in  Houston, TX. According to her sister, she hated the word “influencer.”  She preferred “businessperson.” But because she had a pretty big  following on Instagram and TikTok, and because she was beautiful, her  death got a lot of attention.

Episode 08 - EXCLUSIVE Interview with Carol Beth Hilburn's Birth Daughter!

((This  episode proudly sponsored by Anchor.fm!)) - The 50-year-old Sacramento, California cold case of Carol Beth Hilburn (11/14/70) is still an active murder investigation. We were pleasantly surprised when we were contacted by Lynda Pinochi who is Carol's birth daughter. In all of the research we have done into Carol's case, there was never a mention of her having any children. Listen to this interview to find out why.

In this episode, we talked exclusively with Lynda about her journey of discovering how her birth mother met her end. She discusses how that knowledge has impacted her entire life, why she is now fully committed to solving Carol's murder and why she chose Solve Crimes with Rick & Gavin as her partners to solve this crime. In fact, we have actually identified a brand new suspect that has never been discussed in relation to Carol's case and we will be talking about that in our next episode about Carol Beth Hilburn.

((This episode proudly sponsored by Anchor.fm!)) - Sacramento, California's Judith Ann Hakari’s life was taken. She was murdered;  her body dumped in a shallow grave.  After 50  years, we’re looking for justice for Judy Hakari and the community that  was rocked by her death.  We need your help.

The time between was rough on Judy's parents, her fiancé, the homicide investigators and the entire Sacramento community. We discuss Judy as a person and where she was in that moment before she was taken. How she was planning her June wedding, refurbishing a family heirloom piano for her and Ray's new home after the wedding, her engagement photo session that ended up being the last photo of her...taken on the day she died. We also talk about what her parents were going through during this time. The anguish of not knowing and feeling helpless and unable to do anything productive. Her father called this time period "Hellish". The local media updated the public each day with new information, but hope was waning as the weeks went on.

And then April 25, 1970 a missing person case suddenly became a murder investigation.

Episode 01: The 50-year-old Cold Case of Sacramento, California's Judith Ann Hakari

Sacramento, California's Judith Ann Hakari’s life was going according to  her very detailed plan. She was a young professional woman with a great  career. She was an RN. She was engaged to be married. At 23, she had a  promising future. It all came to a violent end on March 7th, 1970  sometime after eleven thirty at night. She was taken. She was murdered;  her body dumped in a shallow grave. Some people think her death was the  work of a serial killer.

Could it have been the Zodiac Killer, or maybe  even the Golden State Killer? Whoever did it, it was done just a few  feet away from her apartment where her fiancé was inside brushing his  teeth, waiting for her to come home. He couldn’t hear what was happening  outside. And then it happened again. And again. And again. After 50  years, we’re looking for justice for Judy Hakari and the community that  was rocked by her death.
