Ep. 33: My Level Up Journey
Back with a solo episode after over a year! Shanell discusses the level up journey in multiple aspects: how it started, mental health/spirituality, living situation, job, education, dating (never settling again!), and appearance/health.
P.S. How are you 30 and don't own a credit card?
Ep. 32: Black Girl Luxury
#richblackgirltiktok
What is “Black Girl Luxury” & how are Black women attaining luxury? Have you ever been called “bougie”, & if so, what for? Are Black women trying to be White women for wanting a luxurious lifestyle? Why is there a lack of natural (type 4-kinky) hair representation in the Black Girl Luxury movement? Atlanta native & Property Management Company Owner Kamaria Williams, & Your Hostess with the Mostest Shanell answer these questions as well as discuss the “soft life”, why Black women are expected to struggle, the pros and cons of luxury dating (it can get dark!), & more. We end by sharing some of our personal favorite luxuries & self-care tips.
P.S. Mental wellness is the best luxury!

Ep. 31: Black Women Are Feminine Too
Why aren't Black women seen as feminine? Is the "strong Black woman" stereotype empowering or harmful? Do we believe in the "I don't need a man" statement? Mass Media Artist Danielle Blaiq, Stylist & Designer Steffany Allen, Marketing & Data Analyst Nanthale, & Your Hostess with the Mostest Shanell answer these questions as well as discuss the adultification of Black girls, breaking out of masculinity, dating & femininity, education/career & feminity, the "Level Up" & "Black Girl Luxury" movements, & more. We end with words of affirmation to Black women.
P.S. Counting sand on the beach is better than ever proposing to a man!

Ep. 14: Black Women Relationships
#BlackGirlMagic
There is a stereotype that Black women can't get along with each other. Is there a rift in overall Black women relationships, and if so, where does this rift stem from? Why are Black women competitive with each other? Why do some Black women choose to exclusively associate themselves with non-Black women? Have we've personally been victims and/or perpetrators of meanness, bullying, and violence? Do we feel that social media, reality TV, and the news perpetuate the stereotype that Black women can't get along, or are we as Black women just hard on each other? Singer-songwriter and Actress Danielle Blaiq, Social Welfare Doctoral Candidate Alecia, Blogger and Artist Nathalie Vil, and your Hostess with the Mostest Shanell answer these questions, along with breaking down other aspects such as colorism and xenophobia. We then bring it back to the positive and discuss how Black women are "all we've got", unity, shoutout some dope Black women, give advice on what we can do to better our relationships amongst each other, and ways to heal.

Ep. 10: Homeless, Not Helpless
Homelessness is an epidemic, especially here in New York City. NYC-based Writer, Designer, & Professional Organizer Rebekah Love shares her story about how she went from homelessness to entrepreneur & self-love advocate. Rebekah breaks down what lead to her homelessness, her homelessness experiences, how she triumphed from it all, & her current/future endeavors. Your Hostess with the Mostest Shanell shares her social work experiences working in a Brooklyn homeless women's shelter, as well as working with other homeless men & women living in various NYC shelters. We discuss homeless stereotypes & problems with homelessness that we as a society need to address. We also give resources and advice to those who are on the verge of homelessness/facing eviction or are currently homeless.
P.S. We ALL can be homeless one day so show gratitude & be thankful for your blessings.

Ep. 9: Dating - Valentine's Day Edition
In this third installment of the "Dating" series, Filmmaker/Producer/Actor Maurice Keyes, Radio Show Host Michael Williams, Cousin Brittany, and your Hostess with the Mostest Shanell answer some similar questions from the previous dating episodes, along with some new and Valentine's Day-themed questions. Who should pay for dates? What is one good & one bad trait about ourselves that people we've dated told us about ourselves? Do we celebrate VDay or is it "just another day/overrated"? Do MEN hope for or expect anything from women on VDay? What do we appreciate that the opposite sex does? How do we spend VDay? Do we kiss and/or have sex on the first date? We also give advice & words of encouragement to the single ladies & gents on how to "survive" VDay.
P.S. Brittany & Maurice have an ONGOING battle regarding "Going Dutch" & Shanell needs more home-cooked meals.

Ep. 8: Incarcerated Scarfaces
After much anticipation I've finally had the pleasure of interviewing 'It's A Process!' Founder & President Andre Apparicio, Actor/Producer & 'It's A Process!' Professional Peter Celos, & Andre's lovely grandmother Ms. Veolla Loftin. We discussed their (Andre & Peter's) backgrounds, what led to their incarceration & how much time they each served, their rough incarceration experiences, address infamous rumors about prison life, their tough transition back into the "freed" world (housing, employment, relationship dynamics, etc.), their breakthrough & triumphant moments (Andre is winning awards y'all!), how they give back to the community, & give resources for current & formerly incarcerated persons. Ms. Loftin gives us the perspective of a loved one affected by another loved one's (Andre's) incarceration & how she pushed through it all. All three guests also give words of encouragement & advice to those who are formerly incarcerated, as well as to those who are dealing with a current or formerly incarcerated loved one.
P.S. You should listen to some Raekwon aka Chef.

Ep. 7: Your Hair Is Too Nappy
Four naturalistas, Hostess with the Mostest Shanell, co-host Kafaya, Artist and 'Nellie's Compass' Blogger Nathalie Vil, and Registered Nurse Tashia, discuss the history and politics of Black/natural hair, when and why we went natural (Shanell has a flashback of chemical burns), the negative and positive comments we've received while natural, texture hierarchy and discrimination (aka "good and bad hair"), recognize our loc'ed brothas and sistas, share our dating and workplace experiences while natural (someone tried Nathalie!), and recall epic and controversial moments in natural hair history (Shea Moisture, we still remember!). We also give words of encouragement and tips to those who are transitioning, newly natural, or contemplating going natural.
P.S. We are not here for R. Kelly!

In this episode we enter the minds of three lovely ladies, Brittany and Mary of Seriesly Podcast, and your hostess with the mostest Shanell, regarding dating from a woman's perspective. Ep. 4: Dating - Men's Edition
In this episode I picked the brains of three gentlemen, Khalil Perry and Jarrett Wilson of Persist Print, and co-host Dev Lahday, regarding dating from a man's perspective. I asked these gentlemen questions such as what makes a woman "dateable", what challenges have they faced while dating, does race/culture/religion play a role when dating, why lead women on or "ghost" on them, what have they learned about themselves while dating or in a relationship, what are their dating insecurities, and more.
