On this episode of SPARK the Podcast, Jana Klosowsky shares more about God’s plan for community and connection in our lives. God uses other people to encourage us, speak to us and refresh each other! The importance of intentionally seeking community with other Christians is HUGE. The people we choose to do life with, that inner circle, those people you can be vulnerable with, pray with and for, encourage each other - those people are who we go to when things get hard and we can trust with our stuff.

When we live in communities, life is just a little sweeter. It’s not perfect or without hardships, but practicing life like this within our communities of faith is part of how we become more like Christ. 

Galatians 5:6 - “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”  

Today on SPARK the Podcast we are going to be talking all about the hope the resurrection gives us!  We just finished celebrating Easter and the good news that death could not hold our Lord.  After being put to death on the cross, Jesus rose on the third day, defeating death and sacrificing himself for our sins so that we can have relationship with Him!  Let's dive into the hope the resurrection brings to our lives, and how this truly changes everything.

Today on SPARK the Podcast, we are talking about big life intersections and following God's direction with Rebecca Haymes!  Becca shares, "Recognizing these big intersections- whether in the moment or in hindsight - gives me such an appreciation for how great and vast and good God is. If we pay attention it also shows how intimately He cares for us and pursues us. Matthew 10 tells us God knows how many hairs we have on our head. Psalm 139 says God knows when we sit and when we rise, and that it’s God who created our innermost being.  Psalm 44 says God knows our hearts. It’s one thing to read about God’s attention and affection for us, but it’s another thing altogether to experience & recognize it in our lives. Recognition is key. Because we can experience His goodness and be too enthralled with the gift and miss the Gift-Giver. So when I experience His goodness, and recognize it, my appreciation for Him & His ways/plans/purpose grows, and consequently my trust for Him does too.

Welcome to our first SPARK the Podcast of the New Year! We have spent the first few weeks of 2023 praying for God’s will, asking for Him to give us a vision, and we have started setting goals for the year.  Today, we are excited to share more about what is in store for the podcast and what we feel God is calling us to share more about this year.

This year we are going to be focusing on deeply rooting ourselves in our relationship with God.  The word we are focusing on this year is Abide.  It comes from the verse John 15:4:

“Abide in me, and I

in you. As the branch cannot bear

fruit by itself, unless it abides in

the vine, neither can you, unless

you abide in me.”

Something we have grown to love at SPARK over the years is reading the Christmas story together from the Bible, and that is what we are going to do today.  We are simply going to share the story of Christmas, found in the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  God’s word is a living word, and we pray together that this story speaks to your heart today.

She is a lifelong resident of NJ and has worked tirelessly raising support and reaching fundraising goals for many Republican candidates throughout the state. Darlene was elected as Bergen County State Committeewoman in 2013, and became the Vice Chairwoman of the NJGOP in 2021.  For seven years she has been the executive Vice President of operations for J. Shotmeyer. She volunteers in many women’s and children’s ministries in her community. She and her husband Chuck have three children and live in Franklin Lakes, NJ.

Between getting to work with disabled athletes in college and experiencing changes in her own ability level soon after, she became passionate about accessible, universally designed products in the fashion world and beyond!

Holly Silva is a singer and song writer of pop country and contemporary Christian music. She loves expressing herself in her writing by pulling from life experiences. Her most recent song, Jesus Eyes, was written about the passing of her beloved mother, Marianne Silva, who entered Heaven August 7th, 2021. Through her hardships, specifically the loss of her mom, her faith took on a whole new meaning to her. Today on SPARK the Podcast, Deanna shares her testimony!  Deanna is the founder of ‘Resilience is Beautiful’. A platform dedicated to sharing her journey with a rare neuromuscular disease and the importance of Medical Service Dogs. Her speaking events include motivation speaking, relationship building and communication in the wake of trials, awareness of rare diseases, service dogs and patient advocacy. Recently, Deanna was a guest panelist at the World EPA Congress, Europe's largest congress in market access, pricing and evidence; where she spoke on patient and provider Emotional Intelligence. Deanna has done several local commercials, speaking events and award presentations at colleges. Thank you again Deanna for sharing with us today!

Watercolorist Michele E. Struss was born with a form of dwarfism, causing short stature and orthopedic complications. Despite the challenges and setbacks, her physical disability is what God has used to shape her faith and perspective on life. Michele is confident in who God is and who He has made her to be. Despite the many challenges and limitations she lives with, God has enabled Michele to go on the heights in her faith, life and art all to unveil His glory and power. Her story and paintings motivate others, from young to old, to look beyond what the eyes see…to what is unseen and limitless.

Michele’s work has traveled the world, hanging in the humblest homes in developing countries as well as in the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, TX along with works by Michelangelo, Andy Warhol, Mary Cassatt and John Singer Sargent. Regardless of where her paintings call home, her realistic style draws the viewer into her work as if they themselves are standing before the subject which demands a response.  We are so grateful to have Michele Struss share her story on SPARK the Podcast today.

On this episode of SPARK the Podcast, we chat with Jenna Shotmeyer about the launch of her new book Are You Drowning?.  A personal account of injury, depression, growth, life, and healing, Are You Drowning? chronicles Jenna Shotmeyer’s uphill battle of recovering from a traumatic brain injury that took place at the start of her college career. Jenna had her entire life planned out, her career goals defined, and a spot on her college tennis team when it all got pulled out from under her. The tides of her life rose after her injury left her unable to do basic tasks. She was tossed into a sea of uncertainty, but her faith and hope were a lifeboat.

Today we are going to be hearing part one as Natasha shares her marriage story and talks about the importance of biblical submission and how God calls us as wives to submit to our husbands, in all things! 

Natasha shared, “Much like you can’t have two people drive a car at the same time, having two people in charge of a family is problematic. In Ephesians 5:24, God tells wives to submit to their husbands as we would submit to the Lord in everything. He doesn’t say submit to your husband when he makes great choices, or whenever he seems to be right, or just in ancient Bible times. The Bible tells us to submit in everything. Natasha talks us through how we can put the responsibility for our family on our husbands shoulders and, as wives, respect that leadership, come what may.

We are accepting Jesus’ sacrifice to have our sins washed away, putting to death and burying our old life of sin and separation from God, and being raised to a new life of following Him. On this episode of SPARK the Podcast, Laura K Eldredge shares the importance of knowing and sharing our testimony.  Laura used to be a full-time musician.  She traveled and played, living her dream, building her kingdom.  At the height of her career, she sensed God asking her to lay it down as she heard, "It's going to be difficult for your to glorify me in a career that is self-glorifying." Laura listened to God, and has found freedom, forgiveness, and a life that is centered around a full, fun, thriving relationship with God.

On this episode of SPARK the Podcast, Caroline Shea shares her testimony and about forgiveness.  When Jesus died on the cross for us, He forgave our debt of sin and took our place, giving us life through Him. One thing God calls us to do is to forgive others as He forgave us.  Forgiving ourselves can often be even harder than forgiving others. This week on SPARK the Podcast, Jenna Shotmeyer shares all about forgiveness.  Jenna was only 18 and in her first semester of college when someone dropped a cooler from a balcony and onto her head, giving her a traumatic brain injury and completely changing her life.  Over the years, God radically healed Jenna physically.  Through His grace and forgiveness of us, God showed Jenna that forgiving others that owe a debt to us is something we can do, because through His love and mercy, He sent His only son to forgive the even greater debt we owe to Him.     

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. - Psalms 103:8-12

The Christmas season is here!  The season of Advent, the anticipation of the coming Savior. This is such an exciting time, and one we look forward to every year. It is a time to pause and orient our hearts, homes, and minds to the true meaning of Christmas.  The birth of Jesus is such a beautiful gift from God, the gift of hope in a dark world. In this first week of December, we want to talk about why Jesus coming into the world is so important and how the birth of this baby, God’s only son, changed everything for our lives.

It is November and the holidays are just around the corner! While this can be a wonderful time of anticipation and joy, it can also be a really tough time for many. The holidays naturally bring about memories from our past and our childhood, and that can be difficult if we have lost loved ones, or if our family dynamics have changed.

This month on SPARK the Podcast, Mekina and Amy dive into faith and business! They talk through their thoughts on including faith in business and chat openly about what it looks like for them. Mekina and Amy also take a look at what God calls us to as business owners.

We have talked about it before, but we know we are not meant to put God in a box.  When we become Christians, God calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow him.  Galatians 2:20 says "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

Our lives are hidden in Christ.  Not just a part of our lives, our whole lives.  As business owners, it is impossible to separate ourselves from the love, joy, and hope that God brings to our lives.  We have hope in Him, because He is a good God.  He has plans for our lives.  We want to be faithful to follow Him, and give Him all the glory.
