Ivo Domínguez Jr, is an author, teacher, and ritualist. In the show we discuss some of his foundational experiences that set him out on his journey. Before getting on to his new book, The four elements of the Wise, an in-depth exploration of the elements, their lore, history, correspondences, and use in spellwork and ritual. The four elements are the pillars that uphold the manifest world and anchor spirit to matter. They are associated with a wide range of spiritual entities, from small elementals to divine beings. This book explores the consciousness of the elements, which provides a system of understanding that supports most of the magic of the West and paganism. In the Plus show we get into some of Ivo’s incredible experiences including a spontaneous possession by Ogun, a student's attempt to summon something a bit above their pay grade and the nature of Spirit communication and the ability of spirits to read the deeper levels of our consciousness. #58 / Sorita d’Este on Hekate
For episode #58 we are joined by Sorita d’Este. An accomplished author she has penned the Circle for Hekate (V.1 & 2) as well as around 20 other titles.  Aspects of Ancient Greek and Aegean religious and magical practices, as well as Ancient Egyptian, Hermetic and Celtic threads, can be found in her work that combines her experience gained in Initiatory Craft, as well as traditions preserved in other European traditions, Orphism and the Grimoires.   Today we discuss Hekate, her revival in modern witchcraft and Sorita gives us a superb background to the history of the goddess and dispels some modern myths. She has travelled extensively, visiting many ancient religious sites – including temples in Malta, Italy, Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Sri Lanka and India and in the Plus show we discuss travelling and in particular her journey to the Temple of Hekate in Lagina Turkey. #57 / Aoife Anastasia Nally on 'The Spancel of Death'
Aoife Anastasia Nally is an artist, performer, and theatre producer, who for the last few decades has been performing in the West End, London, but is currently based in rural Ontario, Canada. Today we discuss her research into the cursed play ‘The Spancel of Death' penned by her Great Uncle T.H. Nally, Abbey Theatre playwright and personal friend of the great poet WB Yeats. She is also a psychic medium, Seer, trance channel and occasional oracle. The notorious play was interrupted by the Easter Uprising 1916 and subsequently abandoned by WB Yeats eventually giving rise to the belief it was cursed. Not helped in part by the content of the play, for the Spancel that lends its name to the play is nothing less than a necromantic spell of the blackest magick and based on actual events that took place in Balla, County Mayo, Ireland in 1777. In the Plus show Aoife recounts reading WB Yeats personal magical diary and Golden Dawn notebook and her experiences as a trance medium and channel and having a history of gifted and magickal people in one's family or as she puts it ‘family business’. Good stuff indeed. Show Notes: Instagram: Facebook:  Deconstructing Erin: Support the show: TWITTER - SUPPORT - PODCAST - Music by Obliqka

#56 / Paul Weston, Landing coordinates, Cosmic Triggers and Glastonbury
For episode #56 we are joined by author Paul Weston. In an idea laden show we cover the significance of one's own landing coordinates, 'what’s happening around you in your formative years' and Paul takes us through growing up in the sixties on into the seventies and to the concept of Hauntology, which he has many thoughts on.   We segue into a lost UFO experience and unpublished book from a Glastonbury stalwart and his own book that resulted from that. We discuss how Glastonbury being a beacon connected with Extraterrestrial gnosis was actually a far bigger factor into how it developed into the New Age mecca it now is in the seventies.   We then come back round to discuss patterns through time that manifest in culture and settle in the 90’s and how its importance in time is yet to fully come to fruition.   In the Plus show we talk about the systems of control becoming more visible to the public and how this is tied to patterns through time, a very Terrence McKenna idea. We discuss Allen Greenfield version of Crowley's Liber Samekh with the names of classic UFO entities that he has associated with New Aeon English Qabalah inserted. So sign up to the patron for that excellent conversation.  We wrap up on the topic of the Diamon, creativity and building the information exchange with the HGA and ones sense of identity is not limited to time and space coordinates and there is a bigger wider thing going on circling back to the start of the show and one's own landing coordinates. #52 / Keith McCloskey, The Dyatlov pass incident
In January 1959, ten experienced young skiers set out for Mount Otorten in the far north of Russia. While one of the skiers fell ill and returned., the remaining nine lost their way and ended up on another mountain slope known as Kholat Syakhl (or ‘Mountain of the Dead’).    On the night of 1 February 1959 something or someone caused the skiers to flee their tent in such terror that they used knives to slash their way out. Search parties were sent out and their bodies were found, some with massive internal injuries but with no external marks on them.    The autopsy stated the violent injuries were caused by ‘an unknown compelling force’. The area was sealed off for years by the authorities and the full events of that night remained unexplained. Using original research carried out in Russia and photographs from the skier's cameras, author and researcher Keith McCloskey joins us today to explore  what happened to the nine young people who lost their lives in the mysterious ‘Dyatlov Pass Incident’.   All of the known negatives taken from the group’s cameras were examined in great detail. What they show is that not only were the group present on Mountain of the Dead that last night, but they were also watching something that was going on in the night sky.  Keith also discusses the Mansi, the tribes people of the area, their spiritual beliefs and folklore and how they fit into the mystery.   In the plus show Keith discusses the occurrences of lights in the sky in the area including meteors and how the bodies gave off traces of radiation and what he believes this to indicate. Theories of KGB involvement. Show Notes: Keep in touch? TWITTER - SUPPORT - PODCAST - Music by Obliqka

#51 / David Southwell, Hookland, Psychogeography and Landscape Punk
For episode 51 we welcome author, landscape punk and creator of Hookland and AvalonCon speaker David Southwell.    As some of you know Spirit Box is the official podcast of AvalonCon and David is the first in the series of guests that will be appearing on the show in the run up to the event.   This was a fascinating conversation and one I greatly enjoyed. David traced the creative origins of Hookland back to sharing a taxi with J G Ballard through to the developed concept providing a magical perspective on the landscape as an act of a re-enchantment.    We also discuss Hookland’s function as a resistance to fascist claims on folklore. From there we go into David's childhood, growing up in Essex, being a 7 year old necromancer and the Southern TV interruption incident in 1977.   In the Plus show we discuss the Usborne supernatural books that had a big influence on us both and the haunted hotel in Glastonbury where a lot of the AvalonCon attendees are no doubt staying. We touch on David’s time as an end of pier fortune teller, classism in the Occult and much more.   Show Notes: Hookland: David’s twitter:   AvalonCon: Keep in touch? A fun and interesting show we chat about the trials and tribulations of starting your own podcast, imaginary friends, spirit portraits and developing a relationship with a fae entity. #47 / Phil Hine, The Cannibal Club: The British Empire and Erotica
For episode #47 we welcome back author Phil Hine to take us through his research into the opaque yet notorious Cannibal Club, a collection of British upper class victorian men who shared an interest in anthropology and the creation and collection of erotica. The podcast covers a range of subjects from obscure esoteric history to how India appears in Victorian erotica to the case for phallic worship as the root of religion. To give fair warning the show does touch on some difficult ideas from an historical context principally the racist and sexist ideas of the more deplorable members of the Club and the influence these ideas had on anthropology. For episode #46 it’s my great pleasure to welcome Mr Devin Hunter.  Devin is the bestselling author of the Witch Power Series and is the creator of (Podcast, Blog, Magazine), as well as a professional psychic medium and occultist.  He is part owner of The Mystic Dream in Walnut Creek, CA, and an initiate of multiple occult orders, including his own, Sacred Fires and is the cofounder of the Black Rose Tradition of Witchcraft. He has been featured in multiple publications and is a frequent presenter and keynote at conferences, and festivals throughout the US.    We talk about the formative psychic experiences that led him down his path. We discuss how his witchcraft is unique to him but how one's journey or ‘The lonely road’ as he calls it is something we all will undertake if we’re called to this territory. He outlines how we must honour our individual experiences and not always try to rationalise things from a left brain perspective. That the goal should be to balance both the left and right sides of our brains  Devin gives his view of a crystal I picked up many years ago (check out the show art). #45 / Pierre Sabak. New Ufology, Occult Symbolism and Angelic UFOs.
For episode #45 we welcome Pierre Sabak. He is an expert on ancient symbolism and etymology and is widely recognized as a leading academic in the fields of religion, mythology, mysticism and the esoteric. New Ufology is the Study of Occult Symbolism to deconstruct the Ufological tradition, a restricted teaching equated with the Flying Saucer and its occupants (a Crewmember of a Vessel). A completely new field of research, the focus of New Ufology is Skaphology (the Study of Angelic Boats within Religion and Mythology). Pierre Sabak's work on the Saucer Cults details a Secret Alien Code within Language which he calls the Artefact, one that is identified archaically with the ‘Angelic Sailor’ and its human and non-human Hosts. Sabak contends that it is only through studying the occult tradition that we can truly comprehend the UFO phenomenon, its astrological origins and more importantly its intentions for mankind!  -  to that end, what are its intentions for  mankind? Quite a bit to unpack there and some interesting twists and turns from the regular themes on this show. Which is good. No one and no system has all the answers so it is important to get off the map sometimes. Enjoy Show notes: Pierre's website: Pierre's YouTube: Support the show: TWITTER - SUPPORT - PAYPAL -

#44 / David Tidman and I discuss building the Sigil Engine
For episode #44 we welcome my creative partner in the creation of the Sigil Engine, creative technologist and photographer David Tidman. In the show we go through the how the project came about and unpack the creative and esoteric concepts behind the engine. We breakdown how the project was technically approached and the challenges that arose from attempting to create a magickal tool via digital methods. We discuss what people are using it for, how the engine has a global user base and what's next for the project. The fundamental question is 'does it work?'. The first ever sigil created on the live tool was for a successful launch and in roughly10 days there were 100k sigils created and we're currently closing in on 150k. It was so successful we had to upgrade the server. So 'does it work?', time will tell for users, but it worked for us. Incidentally the project had a little write up on Boing Boing. In the patrons plus show we discuss our photographic work and reflect on a few of our mountain adventures over the years. Show Notes: Keep in touch? TWITTER - SUPPORT - YOUTUBE - Music by Obliqka

#43 / Dana Fox, The Valley of the Four Houses
For episode 43 I have the great pleasure of welcoming back Dana Fox to discuss his new project ‘The Valley of the Four Houses’ Firstly, it’s the name of the book he’s writing. Secondly, it’s the name of an ongoing series of talks and lectures he’s giving on Patreon.  The talks encompass film reviews, but not in the usual way. Dana present’s theories about particular films. It’s experimental. It’s a type of magic. The magic for me is learning to discount nothing, to see tiny hints of something which might lead you in an unexpected direction.  Links as always in the show notes.   In the show we cover all of the above and we talk about some of the paranormal subject matter, magick, philosophy and some rare and tragic cryptids.  There were some audio issues during the recording so there is some background noise in places but nothing too unbearable.   Show Notes: Keep in touch? #42 / Moon Laramie, Blavatsky unveiled

Blavatsky's original occult masterpiece, Isis Unveiled, covers a wide range of topics from ancient Egyptian Mystery schools and cosmogenesis to the conflict between science and spiritualism. It’s a psychedelic ride through a world of seances, skeptical scientists, multiple earths, Atlantis, Lemuria, Giants and a vastly different view of human history. #33 / Mme Vendredi on seduction magick, servitors & sigils for Desire. Djinn stories
For episode #33 of the Plus show we are joined by Mademoiselle Vendredi. Mademoiselle Vendredi began her earliest foray into the world of magick around the age of ten when she stumbled on a book in a local library on the history of superstitions, witches and ghosts. Trying to summon a storm using a piece of cord and looking for evidence of the Evil Eye in a glass of water in which oil had been poured came as naturally to her as making up imaginary Gods and praying to them for something magickal to happen. High school brought into sharp relief her "desires to be noticed and adored by the guys in the popular crowd" which is how she discovered her penchant for Magickal head turning. Since then, a significant focus of her practice has been dedicated to Magickal seduction and enchantments of illusions, love and material and carnal desire. To achieve her aims, she uses Servitors and Sigils to create a 'great veil of fascination' and to remove "obstacles to attraction". In the Plus show we talk Djinns and having grown up in the Middle East Mademoiselle Vendredi has plenty to share on subject.   Show notes: Keep in touch? The Gnome Manuscript is a part of a set of three books including, The Gnome Grimoire and The Gnome Compendium, the later two being due for publication with Troy Books.  All three are based on the works of J.H.W. Eldermans concerning gnomes. The original source manuscript is lost but a copy is held in the Museum of witchcraft and magic at Boscastle. The artwork in the manuscript is remarkable, some of which you can see in the YouTube version of the podcast.  It’s worth having a look to get a sense of the complexity of this work. We discuss the elusive and complicated figure that is Eldermans. We discuss the importance of stories, place and community in our lives. In relation to Gnomes Wilmar proposes the areas most associated with Gnome mythology were previously lands of Celtic tribes and a residual belief of those people. Wilmar also reveals an unexpected possible origin myth of the Gnomes. Witte Wieven, also make an appearance. Translated the White woman who have almost identical mythology to the Banshee and Wilmar warns that if you see a Witte Wieven you have to run, they are not friendly. In the Plus show we further discuss what was Eldermans trying to achieve with the book and the stories about his engagement with local people regarding the Gnomes and a secret grimoire Eldermans penned covering a remarkable range of occult subjects, hinting at an ambition of producing a larger body of work of which the Gnome manuscript was a part. Wilmar goes on to discuss the sexual component to Eldermans work and what his view of magick was and what was needed to practice it. We also go through a story around Eldermans connections with Occult groups. If that sounds like it floats your boat join the Patreon  and you'll get access to all previous Plus shows and much more. #30 / Stephanie Connolly on Demonolatry and the nature of Demons
For Episode 30 we welcome Stephanie Connolly. Stephanie   is an American author of books about Daemonolatry and magick. She has been practicing Daemonic Magick since 1984, and has been an initiated Daemonolatress since 1990. She is actively practicing and has over 35 years experience in Goetia and grimoiric magick as well as traditional craft. Also a Rosicrucian, she holds a Master of Metaphysics from ULC Seminary. She has taught online classes in Qabbalah, Gematria, Magick, Daemonolatry and Meditation since 1999 and regularly speaks at conventions, trade shows, and conferences on a variety of topics. She is one of the foremost experts on the topic of Daemonolatry and the author of over 25 books about Daemonolatry specifically, including the bestselling The Complete Book of Demonolatry. In the conversation we get into Demonolatry as a practice of self development, the nature of demons as divine intelligences and her own metaphysical experiences.  We talk about the creative spark and how her practice has given her the discipline to write over 80 books. Which is just an incredible achievement. An interesting note from the conversation is Stephanie’s views on what Demons are and what they aren’t. She makes a clear distinction between them and energy eaters which is how she describes parasitic entities. I think this is an important distinction and one that is often missed in conventional western spiritual thinking In the Plus show we discuss what demons get from us in exchange. What possession means from the Demonalatry perspective and more pointedly how magick and real long term change means commitment and hard work. #28 / Jerry Marzinsky, Schizophrenia and parasitic entities
Joining us on the Spirit Box for episode 28 is Jerry Marzinsky. Prior to retirement, Jerry was a licensed psychotherapist. He has over 35 years of experience working with schizophrenic and other psychiatric patients in state hospitals, state prisons, and hospital emergency rooms. Jerry’s formal academic training comprises a B.A. in Psychology from Temple University, a Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Georgia, and two years of study in a Ph.D. Psychology program. This show is quite an important one for me after my own experiences and research and I had previously cited Jerry in my own lectures juxtaposing his testimony against the concepts of Obsession and Waswas. You can find that lecture in the show notes.  Jerry outlines his journey from the conventional psychiatric understanding of schizophrenia as an internal problem to a position of believing it to be an external one. An external one that is the result of parasitic entities that prey on human beings. In the first hour he describes the patterns he spotted in patients throughout his career that led him to his position and in his opinion the failings of conventional psychiatric treatments. He goes on to describe his conversation with the entities themselves through his patients and their warnings to him culminating in a startling experience that left him deeply shaken. In the Plus version for Patrons we get deeper still and talk about how entities can work with their hosts to reveal hidden knowledge. Hidden knowledge which often leads to poor life choices and destructive behavior. We discuss the impact of Meth use and why prisoners call it ‘the Devils drug’. Jerry goes on to detail how intrusive thoughts affect us all and how these entities access our memories to use them against us and what our defence is against these parasites and their intrusion. You can join the patron via the links below. At 33 minutes the connection went and I got booted from the call so you will hear a drop out. As you no doubt know with this kind of subject matter this is a regular occurrence. OK just a warning, there are references to serious mental health, self harm and suicide that some listeners may find upsetting. I want to be clear that the object of this show is the exploration of ideas and to listen to the testimony of Mr Marsinsky and not to diminish any individual's personal experiences. He is the editor of The Catholic Exchange and resides in Colorado where you can often find him discussing preachers, ghosts, and churches of the Old West. The book narrates the true story of Father Gabriele Amorth, the former chief exorcist of the vatican who performed more than sixty thousand exorcisms over a thirty-year period in Rome. The book details the experiences Fr Amorth had during his career like the windows icing over during an exorcism in summertime in Rome, dealing the results of magical attacks and some startling manifestations including a possessed young man producing nails from his mouth. We compare elements of the accounts and techniques detailed with the Islamic equivalent and look at the reasons while individuals can be open to obsessions and possession and discuss the fate of fallen angels from both the catholic and fairy lore perspectives. #24 / Joshua Cutchin & Timothy Renner on 'Where the Footprints End: High Strangeness and the Bigfoot Phenomenon'.
This week we are joined by Joshua Cutchin and Timothy Renner to discuss the book they co-authored, ‘Where the Footprints End’, an exploration into the high strangeness surrounding the bigfoot phenomena. Joshua is an author and musician, and a well known figure in paranormal circles having appeared on some of the best known paranormal podcasts out there. Timothy is also a musician and author and on top of that he's a brilliant illustrator and host of the superb Strange familiars podcast.  So, what’s the premise of the book? Despite their apparently physical nature, bigfoot and its hairy hominid kin consistently appear mired in High Strangeness—the peculiar, ineffable, and nonsensical absurdities so often encountered in paranormal phenomena. Some sightings seem more consistent with mythology than biology. Bigfoot often present supernatural attributes, like luminescent eyes or the ability to pass, ghostlike, through structures. Anomalous lights are regularly seen in areas of frequent sasquatch activity. Footprints persistently, if rarely, display odd numbered toes, and—most bafflingly—bigfoot trackways suddenly terminate in the middle of open, untouched terrain. In Volume 1 of Where the Footprints End: High Strangeness and the Bigfoot Phenomenon, authors Joshua Cutchin and Timothy Renner carefully examine not only the intersection of hairy apemen with global folklore—of poltergeists, faeries, extraterrestrials, magic, witches, ghosts, and archetypal women-in-white—but also question the fundamental assumptions underlying contemporary cryptozoological beliefs surrounding bigfoot. #23 / Fr Dwight Longenecker on immortal combat, spiritual warfare & the invisible world.
As you know the point of this podcast is to look at all sides of the puzzle of non-physical non human intelligences, this week we’ll be looking at things from a Catholic perspective. To that end our next guest, Fr. Dwight Longenecker talks to the Catholic concept of Spiritual warfare detailed in his book Immortal Combat - Confronting the Heart of Darkness Brought up as an Evangelical in the USA, Fr. Dwight Longenecker earned a degree in Speech and English before studying theology at Oxford University. He served as a minister in the Church of England, and in 1995 was received into the Catholic Church with his wife and family. The author of over twenty books and booklets on Catholic faith and culture, Fr Longenecker is also an award winning blogger, podcaster and journalist. He is pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Greenville, South Carolina. Fr Longenecker maps out how Catholicism changed to a more ‘love and light’ position and in doing so lost its awareness of actual evil forces. We discuss the danger of pretending evil doesn’t exist and his personal experience with exorcisms. There are some sections I’ve bleeped out to remove names and location of those involved in the exorcism. #19 / Morgan Daimler on 'The Good People', real Fairy experiences, fairy Lovers and possession.
Firstly, they are called 'The Good People' now that we've got that out of the way please welcome author Morgan Daimler.   Morgan has been a practicing witch since the 1990's and studying Irish folklore and mythology since the mid-90's. Growing up around the Irish-American diaspora contributed to this interest which came to include other Celtic language speaking cultures, such as Scottish and Welsh, and eventually the more loosely connected Norse, with a focus on folklore relating to fairies. Morgan began teaching and writing about fairies in the early 2000's and has presented workshops on related topics in the United States and Ireland as well as presenting as an independent scholar at the University of Ohio's 'Fairies and the Fantastic' conference in 2019.   I got huge amount out of this conversation, and I'm very grateful to Morgan for her openness and for sharing the wisdom and knowledge she's gained researching and engaging with this subject matter. It brought the phenomena of Jinn and 'The Good people' a lot closer for me. In fact it's really solidified what I already suspected in that this is a phenomena that communicates using the symbols that are culturally relevant to the witness. We even had the classic technical problems when discussing how dangerous these entities are which is essentially a paranormal badge of honour and a clear indication that we were in the right territory.   If you have your own experiences be sure to leave them in the comments below or reach out to me.    Show notes:    Keep in touch? Our use of written language sets humans apart from many of the other beings on earth. It is also apparent the we share this method of communication with the ultraterrestrial intelligences who come here still.    As if that’s not enough we talk phantom airships, Kenneth Arnold, Black Triangles and  Ghost rockets. #08 / 'Waswas' the whisperings of demons
Episode 8. For the title of this lecture I’ve used the Islamic term ‘Waswas’ in place of Christian term ‘Obsession’ to describe the experience itself but used the Christian / Western term ‘Demons’ in place of Djinns to illustrate the universal aspect of this experience. Please note this is not to diminish either faith it’s simply that the parallels offer a good reference point for my listeners.  I would ask for the duration of this podcast to park your assumptions and keep an open mind as we explore this subject.   There are some very obvious parallels between Waswas and mental health problems. I'm not suggesting that mental health problems are all Waswas, that is clearly not the case.  I do suggest the sources may not all be internal. Either way if you are experiencing some of the symptoms described in this podcast go and see both a mental health professional and seek spiritual guidance.    Sources: Original video: 'Miracles and the Miraculous in Medieval Germanic and Latin Literature' edited by K.E. #07 / The Dark Horseman and The Fairy Wind
Episode 7. This podcast is made up of two recordings, the Dark horseman and the Fairy wind.  The Dark horseman covers two stories from Lady Wilde's book 'Ancient legends of Ireland'. These stories feature the common themes of the 'Dark horseman' trickster that leads the protagonist awry and is quite unnecessarily cruel and spiteful on travellers he meets along the road. The stories include the visit to the fairy palace and all its beauty and joy and then things take a darker turn and the human visitor gets an unpleasant supernatural brush with death.  The stories propose that the reason for this unnecessary cruelty is a grudge the fairy folk have against humanity, much like the Djinn. I then breifly discuss the startlingly similar origin myths of the Fairies and Djinn. The Fairy wind refers to a method of travel employed by the fairies and how if one is stuck by the wind, you are not long for this world. The interesting point here is the Jinn are famously associated with wind, being born of the scoring wind of the desert and travelling via it across great distances. Another remarkable similarity between  jinn and fairies. The interviews with Marco Visconti are coming soon to the podcast but are already available on my YouTube channel: Marco's first appearance Marco's second appearance  Music by Obliqka -

#06 / The mythic geography of the northern polar regions & the lost book of Inventio Fortunata
Episode 6. The idea that there must be a large mountain of lodestone called Rupes Nigra at the North Pole to account for the earth's magnetism goes back to at least the 13th century, not long after the invention of the compass.  It was held to be surrounded by four islands with inward- flowing rivers, great mountains and inhabited by Pygmies. The source of this mythical polar geography is a lost work by an unknown author of the 14th century. The book was called the 'Inventio fortunata'.  The book is said to be a travelogue written by a 14th century Franciscan friar from England who travelled the North Atlantic region in the early 1360s,  conducting business on behalf of the King Edward III. He described what he found on his first journey to the islands beyond 54 degrees north in a book, "Inventio Fortunata", which he presented to the King. The geography attributed to it described bear remarkable resemblances to Hindu, Islamic and Buddhist cosmologies. The description dominated the depiction of the Polar regions on European maps with up to the 1700s, yet we know almost nothing about the contents of the book save a summary in a second text, the "Itinerarium," written by a Dutch traveller named Jacobus Cnoyen. By the late 16th century, even Cnoyen's text was missing, so most of what we know of the contents of the "Inventio Fortunata", other than its use on maps, is found in a letter from the Flemish cartographer Gerardus Mercator to the Anglo-Welsh astrologer and occultist John Dee dated April 20, 1577. #05 / 'Living with Djinns - Understanding and Dealing with the Invisible in Cairo'
Episode #5 is A reading from the book 'Living with Djinns - Understanding and Dealing with the Invisible in Cairo' by anthropologist Barbara Drieskens.  This book explores the importance of storytelling in Egyptian society and recounts first-hand experiences of djinns.    A unique ethnographic study, it investigates possession, manifestations, and concepts of person and space.  The djinn is an invisible spirit with a will of its own that may lurk at the bottom of your teacup or seep through your pores to possess you; they  have long been an explanation for illness and misfortune or an excuse for unconventional behavior.   Barbara Drieskens is an urban anthropologist and an assistant visiting professor at the American University of Beirut. The personal experiences that drove this development and the healing techniques from Shamanism that exposed Dr Alcorn to how the spirit world is interacting with the human world on an industrial level.   We discussed the nature of schizophrenia, waswas and the energy drain associated with spirit attachment.   This of course brings us to the Djinn and in Dr Alcorn’s own words the ‘woowoo’ experiences he had with the Jinn during shamanic journeying. But also his clinical experiences of working with clients under attack from the Djinn.  We spoke about what they are? And interestingly how they are ‘not’ demons but in fact elemental beings.   The previously mentioned show on the Catholic view on Spiritual Warfare and degrees of Demonic possession got bumped for this show but will be up soon. #03 / The Aghori, India's cannibal holy men
I first gave this lecture at Treadwells Occult bookshop in London. It documents my experiences photographing the Aghori while working as a photographer travelling around India. The Aghori are a Shaivite sect who practice cannibalism and commit profane acts living in and around the spiritual capital of India - the ancient northern Indian city of Varanasi where I spent two weeks tracking them down to shoot the work referenced in this podcast. The Aghori believe that nothing is blasphemous or independent from God. The Aghoris are distinct from other Hindu sects and Sadu’s (priests) by their alcoholic and cannibalistic ceremonies. Skulls and other human bones are obtained from the cremation grounds and used due to having life-force which they believe can be harnessed for ritual purposes. They are also alleged to pull bodies from the river Ganges, which are then eaten.  They do things which a common man finds to be terrifying, so they overcome fears by facing them and acting out horrors, since they do it regularly it is a common thing for them. They have been known to consume human flesh and human waste and use alcohol and drugs as part of their religious practice. It is said that they are crazy or ‘God-possessed’. They call this transcending of boundaries; ‘Non-discrimination’. It’s worth orientating westerner occultists. These Sadhu’s are Left hand path in their ritual practices but the outcome of these rituals is not necessarily designed to attain a dark outcome. #02 / Interview with the Jinn - The Red King's daughter.
In 2002, an article appeared on an Arabic Internet web site that purported to be an interview with a female jinn who had possessed a human being. The article was written by a 'Mr. Abdalrazzak'. The interview is set in Damascus, Syria, and includes discussion of jinn kingdoms and the phenomenon of jinn possession. The article consists of various conversations between the author and his paternal grandmother, Husna Khanum, which took place, as he put it, 'when I was quite young'. The dialogues were not literally with his grandmother, he says, but rather with the jinn that had possessed her. The spirit had taken possession of her many years before, during the French occupation of Syria in 1920, when the constantly exploding shells had caused her psychological trauma’s and opened her to jinn possession. The manifestations of the female jinn would come and go, depending on circumstances, over the years. At times, Husna Khanum would seem totally normal; at others, the personality of the jinn would take over. The writer's discussions with his possessed grandmother are recounted in this episode.
