A Journey to Freedom: Mental Health, Meds, and Mindfulness - Spiritually Fit with Julie Kiddoo
Welcome to Season 5 of Spiritually Fit Yoga!  This week's episode is about Mental Health and Freedom from Suffering with Julie Kiddoo! About Julie Kiddoo: Julie lives in Eagle-Vail, (Avon) Colorado with her husband, Tom, their two children, Charlie and Catie, and their Golden Retriever, Nala. Julie is the owner of Revolution Power Yoga, Baptiste Affiliate Yoga studios in Avon & Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She is a 1200 hour certified Baptiste Yoga teacher, a LifeForce Yoga Level 1 practitioner and a lululemon Ambassador. She is the author of Bye-Polar, an autobiography of her journey though her own mental health struggles and the healing she found along the way. Julie loves being on her yoga mat, spending time in nature, road trips with her family and having fun with friends and family. After her first Baptiste Yoga class in 2007, Julie felt something different. She was touched, moved and inspired in a way that she had never been before. Through experiences on her mat, Julie learned that ultimately she was the only one who had the power to change her life. Julie's intention for her students is to inspire and empower so that they expand the boundaries of what they think is possible for themselves on and off their mat. "Don't Quit Before the Miracle" - Addiction, Recovery, Yoga. Spiritually Fit with Max Fusaro
Welcome to Season 5 of Spiritually Fit Yoga!  Enjoying getting Spiritually Fit with Max Fusaro! About Max Fusaro: Max Fusaro is an addict who has been in recovery for over 4 years now. His story is full of high highs and low lows, countless attempts at sobriety followed by relapses, struggles, and years of false hope, followed by an eventual triumph, long term recovery. Max discovered the life changing practice of yoga in rehab in 2015. He wasn’t ready to recover at that moment in time, but he felt yoga’s ability to transform and knew the practice would be there for him when he was ready. In 2018, at another rehab Max found himself in yet another yoga class and knew this time around something was different. After exiting that rehab, he found the connection and community thru yoga that would help save his life. In 2019 he became an RYT 200 and teaches to that same community today, Baptiste Power Yoga Affiliate “Hot Yoga Revolution” in Cranford & Metuchen, New Jersey. After joining Hot Yoga Revolution and discovering for himself just how empowering and transformational yoga & community can be, Max quickly realized that others in Recovery could benefit from the practices of yoga and meditation and the power of community. Max is continuously searching for new ways to help others in recovery from addiction and/or alcoholism. He speaks at rehabs and detox centers on a weekly basis sharing his experience, strength, and hope with others in early sobriety. He began to lead a “Yoga for Recovery” class which aimed to give people in Recovery a safe space to share, heal, build community, and flow together. The class begins with a 30-minute Recovery based discussion followed by a 60-minute heated vinyasa yoga practice. Max stays spiritually fit by continuing to help other people and by doing the next right thing.  Connect with Max: * Instagram: @max_fusaro * YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUEwjYOq4UvbmR0i7_1gsgg/videos * Take classes with Max at Hot Yoga Revolution (Baptiste Affiliate): https://www.hotyogarevolution.com/ "If you’re struggling don’t hesitate to reach out. Journey to Empowerment with Self-care and Gut Health - Spiritually Fit with Eleni Genagritis
Welcome to Season 5 of Spiritually Fit Yoga!  Enjoy this episode getting Spiritually Fit with Eleni Genagritis! About Eleni Genagritis: "Ever since I was a little girl, I witnessed my mother (my super hero) a Registered Nurse & single mother juggle caring for me and her patients and saw many times she overlooked her health in the process. It was difficult to watch my mom succumb to unhealthy habits and overall not feel healthy and happy herself; even though she tried her best to nurse me and her patients to health. Admiring my mother’s passion for nursing others sparked my desire to become a nurse. In nursing school, I fully became aware of the constant battle between nursing myself and nursing my patients, empathizing with my mother and other healthcare professionals. Most of the time, I would choose my health last and it was not until I noticed the remarkable difference of the care I provided for my patients when I cared for myself where I knew something needed to be done! I coined a term with my nursing friends, Michelle and Diana— “(M)ursing before Nursing” to promote care for (ME-the nurse) before caring for others. I then presented this concept at a Summit in Ohio on Promoting Health and Resilience for Healthcare Professionals. I felt and still feel ignited and passionate about this topic of spreading awareness on all the benefits of promoting health for nurses especially when I saw how my fellow nursing student friends also struggled with their self care rituals. I desire more than anything else to create a healing space for nurses to connect to one another and most importantly connect with their mind, body, and spirit and become the lights for other nurses to do the same." The Nurse Yourself Retreats were designed to support nurses in connecting and caring for themselves through healthy rituals so they can better care for their patients and those around them. Eleni is a Registered Nurse, Integrative Health Practitioner, Retreat Leader, and a wise, young, soul. website: empoweredbyeleni.com Eleni’s Instagram accounts: @eleniyun @empowerretreats ================================== Thank you for being here! Meditation: Setting Your Intention, Sankalpa. Repeat daily for 30 days.
Welcome to Spiritually Fit Yoga! Setting intentions, or you sankalpa, is a powerful way to practice spiritual fitness.  This meditation not only allows you to cultivate a mindset of focus and clarity, it also creates a habit to relax and body and mind, and from that relaxed state, focus on your intention. Consider repeating this meditation daily, at the same time every day, and observe what happens.  When setting your intention, see yourself as your highest and brightest self, and serving the highest good.  Adding these elements to setting my intentions is my "secret sauce" to leading a purposeful life. One thing I can promise you, is that this practice will keep you focused on what matters to you, every day you repeat this meditation.  Energy flows where your attention goes. ==================================  Thank you for being here! Having a Whale of a Time! Spiritually Fit with Greg McCormack!
Welcome to Spiritually Fit Yoga! Enjoy this episode! Biography for Greg McCormack Greg grew up exploring the rural woodlands in the Farmington River area of Connecticut, and the shorelines of LaJolla, California. His passion for the marine environment flourished when he got scuba certification in his teen years and went on to work summers at the Catalina Island Marine Institute. Greg received his Bachelor of Science degree from Humboldt State University after transferring from UC San Diego. Driven by a desire to connect people with the outdoors, he has worked as park ranger in many of the nations most iconic parks, including Grand Canyon, Everglades, Hawai’i Volcanoes, Denali, Mount Rainier, Olympic and others. Southeast Alaska’s vast wilderness inevitably stole his heart when he first arrived in 1994 as a guide aboard a 36-passenger expedition vessel. He spent many summers there leading clients on sea kayak and river rafting trips. He branched out as an expedition leader, lecturer and Zodiac driver on dozens of trips to the Arctic, Antarctic, Sea of Cortez, and Caribbean. As a Divemaster, he has led divers in the turquoise South Pacific waters of Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia and Indonesia. Greg did a couple of stints for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, working as a marine educator in the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary and recently the Greater Farallones NMS in San Francisco at Crissy Field in the Presidio. Greg has done volunteer work all of his life, including the last 8 years as a guide at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. He did a 6-week long stint two years ago as an albatross census counter for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Midway Atoll in Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument in the northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Outside of work, Greg can be found trail running in the park districts near his home in Monterey, California. He enjoys active vacations with his touring bicycle, logging many thousands of miles in many of the 91 countries he has visited. His mission statement is to have first-had experience as an educator in as many of the worlds remaining intact ecosystems before more environmental degradation occurs and inspire others to become stewards of this magical blue planet we call home.  ==================================  Contact Greg on Instagram @greg.mccormack and at http://www.gregmccormack.com  ==================================  Thank you for being here! 5 minute Guided Meditation for Rest and Deep Sleep
Welcome to Spiritually Fit Yoga!  This week's episode is an offering of a short meditation to invite you into rest and deep sleep.  Here is the United States we just turned out clocks forward for daylight savings time, which means some of us are experiencing the challenge of waking up an hour early and maybe feeling sleep deprived.  Use this meditation to put yourself to bed earlier, even if the body clock is feeling like it's not ready to go to bed.  Like jet lag, it can take some time to shift the body into a new time zone.  This guided meditation is short and sweet.  It ends in silence. Enjoy! Background music: "A Dreamy Night" composed by Music Of Wisdom - Licensed from www.meditationmusiclibrary.com. --------------------------- AWAKEN YOUR FEMININE POWER - Spring Women's Yoga Retreat! March 19-20, 2021 This episode is sponsored by http://SpirituallyFitYoga.com.  If you are a woman feeling like you could use some self-care, time to yourself to nurture your body, mind, and spirit, and maybe wishing you had clarity about what your purpose in life is right now?  One thing I have learned from my own personal experience of fatigue, specifically chronic fatigue syndrome, is that when I am spinning my wheels, seemingly just doing, doing, doing, without joy or purpose, I experience burnout.  In fact, I set myself up to make myself physically sick. Through what I have discovered to create balance in my life, discover my sacred purpose, and specifically tap into my unique strengths as a woman, I teach the tools I've applied to myself, and share them with students!  I created the upcoming Awaken Your Feminine Power to deep dive during 5 hour yoga retreat!  In 2021, I am offering this as a virtual retreat for the first time.  I will simultaneously be teaching to a small group of in-person students and because those spots sold out so quickly, I decided to offer virtual spots via zoom.  Find out more here March 19th FRIDAY 6-8pm PST Welcome, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Reiki, Journaling March 20th SATURDAY 9am-12pm PST Welcome back! Invite a Veteran to Yoga - It Could Save Their Life. Spiritually Fit with Dan Nevins!
Welcome to Spiritually Fit Yoga! Today's guest is Dan Nevins, veteran, master storyteller and yoga teacher. Dan shares his riveting story which inspires military and civilians around the world.  You will hear how he stays spiritually fit and requests: "Invite a veteran to yoga, it could save their life." Dan Nevins is a professional speaker who has been inspiring audiences around the world with his message of perseverance, resiliency and hope for more than a decade, and has been featured on the Steve Harvey Show, Good Morning America, BuzzFeed, Fox News, CBS News and ABC News among others. A highly decorated soldier, Dan was severely injured during combat in Iraq in 2004 after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated beneath his vehicle. He lost both legs below the knee, and lives with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and the emotional wounds of war. Dan credits Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) with his successful rehabilitation, which instilled a “can-do” attitude, positive outlook and passion for helping his fellow wounded warriors. He quickly became an advocate for the organization, inspiring both his peers and the public to create positive change for themselves and those around them, simply by sharing his powerful story.  In 2014, Dan discovered the life-changing power of yoga and meditation, which has enabled him to heal from the invisible wounds of war in a way that nothing else could. He quickly realized that other wounded warriors could benefit from yoga in the same way and knew he had to become an instructor. Dan began teaching yoga in 2015, and is now a Tier 3 Certified Baptiste Yoga Influencer. Dan incorporates the notion of “yoga for every-body” into his speeches and classes, encouraging people from all walks of life – and veterans in particular – to take up the practice. Dan is continuously searching for new ways to help other veterans. He is passionate about his work with Wounded Warrior Project and Warrior Spirit Retreat, a non-profit that he founded, which empowers warriors to greater possibilities by providing them with new tools for healing from the invisible wounds of war. The holistic retreats offer a curriculum centered on yoga, mindfulness and meditation, and are free of charge to veterans. Wanji has been part of AYP since her first class in 2009. After that first class she made up her mind that yoga was what she wanted to do with her life. She became a certified Baptiste Yoga Teacher through AYP's 200-hour training and has been teaching yoga for 10 years. She has since completed Baptiste Level 2, Baron Baptiste's Leadership Workshop and numerous other trainings in Kenya, Mexico and the US. Wanji's experience as a yoga teacher ranges from free outreach classes in the community where she grew up (Kariobangi, a low-income neighborhood in Nairobi) to private lessons for ambassadors and the UN community in Nairobi. She has attended  Hanuman Festival in Colorado and has taught yoga on 5 AYP fundraising tours at yoga studios across the US. Kiss the Ground. A movie review and meditation with mantra: Plant a seed. Heal our soils. Heal our planet. Heal ourselves.
Today's episode is inspired by the Netflix documentary, "Kiss the Ground."  As a response to this powerful documentary, I was inspired to plant seeds, literally in my garden, and plant the message that each one of us has an opportunity to heal our planet by healing our soils.  I highly recommend watching this informative movie, narrated by Woody Harrelson, and teachings from scientists and farmers around the world, on how we as humans can regenerate damaged, parched lands, to let Mother Nature do what she does best: to thrive and provide for us.   It's up to us to put our "thank you" into action, by offering healing practices into our soils through mindful planting, composting, and stopping methods which harm our soils.  And, harming our soil ultimately harms our crops, animals, and ourselves.  This is my way of planting seeds, to use my voice and small platform to ask you.  What will you do to make a difference?  Watch the movie.  This movie is refreshingly not about politics.  It's focused on science, agronomy, and agriculture, and done in a way which left me feeling hopeful and inspired.  I hope it impacts you in a positive way as it has done for me.   And, enjoy my short meditation, with the mantra "Plant a seed. Heal our soils. Heal our planet. Heal ourselves." It's an offering of lovingkindness, metta, to our planet, to Mother Nature.  As always, thank you for tuning in!  I will be back with another guest interview next week, to hear how my guests stay spiritually fit!  Let me know if something shared here was helpful or inspired something in you.  Let me know in a review or DM me.  I appreciate you tuning in! Black Lives Matter - listening and learning
My unscripted, transparent, in the moment thoughts on racism, and police brutality, from me, a POC (person of color), Asian-American. I'm not an expert or authority on Black Lives Matter and I've been listening and learning, to be better and do better. I share my thoughts on why SOME of the yoga community SEEMED to be quiet during BLM. And, wrap up with a 8:46 silent meditation in honor of George Floyd. 🙏🏽 I admit this unscripted episode is not polished but, it's me talking to you, freestyle. I might edit down the road but right now it's me being honest and sometimes rambly, with the intention to share ideas and resources to support Black Lives Matter. I find myself admitting I was both on the receiving end of racial slurs and born into a family who was sometimes racist. And, while I wanted to share honest examples of racism I was not proud to speak aloud, I share how it's possible to do a u-turn from unfair judgment to acceptance. Shining light on the darkness, instead of ignoring the problems, is a step towards transformation. Just because you sweep those dust bunnies under the couch doesn't mean the dirt is gone. It's time to awaken and be courageous enough to look where the dirt is hiding. Eyes, mind and heart open my friends. ***** My episode notes are an important part of my contribution to you and the BLM cause. I humbly offer my perfecly imperfect thoughts and a handful of resources on how to support our black community and get educated on Black Lives Matter. When we know better we can do better. ❣️ Amelia ***** Resources mentioned during this episode: instagram accounts: @shaunking , @grassrootslaw , @wejustwill @spirituallyfityoga ***** Uncover Your Hidden Prejudices meditation by Justin Michael Williams on Insight Timer app: https://insig.ht/PtSR4ffy26 ***** Listen to podcast: “Motivation for Black People” Episode 123: https://apple.co/305XZJf ***** Read article “6 Ways Asian Americans Can Tackle Anti-Black Racism in Their Families” by Kim Tran https://bit.ly/3gREgTI ***** More links: https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/ https://www.naacp.org/campaigns/we-are-done-dying/m https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/03/parenting/kids-books-racism.html ***** If you would like to donate to some local Bay Area organizations, here are some (of many) great places you can do so: https://www.gofundme.com/f/bay-area-bail-fund http://www.crc4sd.org/contribute https://www.antipoliceterrorproject.org/donate Supporting local black-owned businesses is also a great way to show support. 60 min Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga - starting with core and adding HIIT to stoke the inner fire.
Live recording from May 13, 2020 class for Baptiste Power Yoga San Francisco. 60 min rigorous Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga - starting with core in beginning of class and adding HIIT (high intensity interval training) with mountain climbers to stoke the inner fire. This class is best suited for experienced yogis. AND, anyone is welcome to this practice. Baptiste Power Yoga is traditionally practiced in a 90-95 degree room without music. You're welcome to add heat in your practice space to ramp up the sweat and detox. As an option, I have included a playlist for your background music throughout the class starting with the first "song" named "Silent Track", which is 4 min of silence. You might opt to practice in silence and wait until savasana to start the song "Aum." Spotify playlist link included below. Because the beginning of the live recording is missing I've recorded a separate segment to start this class. You will hear a change in the volume and audio quality when the live recording kicks in. May you flow with breath, sweat and detox, and be up to something bigger than yourself! Meditate to ease anxiety during this pandemic and invite peace & calm. Option to use essential oils.
Week 9, phase 2 of shelter in place, and corona fatigue might be kicking in where you're just getting fed up with this pandemic. I'm here to tell you I get it, I'm frickin' tired of this too, and I encourage you to hang in there, that we can do it together. And, to offer this meditation to ease anxiety and worry and invite peace and calm. As an option, I also invite you to use the doTerra Adaptiv essential oil to enhance your meditation. Other oils: wild orange, lavender, copaiba, spearmint, neroli, sweetgum. Breathe in presence, let go of anxiety and worry. Repeat: "I am peaceful. I am calm." 🙏🏽 Namaste, Amelia Andaleon

Yoga nidra to dispel fear and invite deep sleep (essential oils optional)
The recent announcement to extend shelter in place another month in California felt like someone moving the finish line further away, like the proverbial pandemic carrot got f#in yanked away. The struggle is real. For me, to stay spiritually fit is to trust in a higher truth especially when tempted to give up, collapse in a heap of worry, eat emotions (please no more carbs!), or lose sleep numbing out with Netflix . So many of us are not sleeping well right now and it’s one of our most effective ways to keep our body, mind and spirit fit. When sleep-deprived we can succumb to self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviors. Keep the course to self-care. I offer this yoga nidra to invite a deep rest, to release fear and trust that you are safe, now and in the future. As an option, I also mention essential oils to enhance your yoga nidra. Consider using lavender, peppermint, cinnamon, black spruce, or any other oils with the properties to dispel fear. Breathe deep and slow and relax the entire body. I wish you peace and a sweet, deep, restful sleep. If you are enjoying these episodes please share with others and leave a review to let me know you appreciate my podcast! Namaste 🙏🏽

Rise Up
Rise up because you can. Rise for the weary and the hungry and the grieving and the gone. Rise because your lungs breathe and fuel a life to heal and to serve. Rise for our brothers and sisters who stand in the face of fear. Rise up for those who can’t. Rise up because YOU can. I rise up for you. And, when I can’t will you please rise for me? Rise up for those warrior women and men. Rise up to say “thank you” and “Amen.” - Amelia Andaleon

Get curious, not furious - a meditation to shift emotionally charged reactions to peace and calm.
"Get curious, not furious" is a powerful mantra in this 15 minute meditation to shift emotionally charged reactions from a state of stress to peace and calm. Use this meditation as a tool to break the habit of lashing out with undesirable words or behaviors, towards others or towards yourself. This exercise trains the body and mind to relax, observe your feelings, pause, and choose calm over habitual knee-jerk reactions.
