This episode’s guest is Justin Newell the Assistant Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance and Operations at Kenyon College and CEFMA 2020 - 2021 president. Justin’s path started working in endangered species after graduating college before finding his way into the world of college athletics. He rose through the ranks in college athletics working at schools such as Tulane University, Jacksonville University, Auburn University Montgomery, and Michigan. Through his journey, he found a home at the division three level. Justin discusses the lessons he learned through what he describes as the phases in his career. He opens up about his mistakes and how trying to understand himself has helped him be a better leader.

From a Small Town in Iowa to Sharing Stories on the Big Stage, Bri Lewerke
The guest of this episode is Bri Lewerke a Strategic Marketing Associate for SportsEngine. She has been there for nearly five years. Bri is also a freelance photographer that has done work for Sports Illustrated, SLAM, Bleacher Report, Nike EYBL, Overtime, and the WNBA. Bri's passion lies at the intersection of sports, storytelling, and digital media. She is one of the biggest basketball fans we know and we dive into where that love came from. Bri didn't get her start in sports until her senior year of college doing an internship with the Washington Wizards. They were one of two teams that called among 50 applications she put out there. She knew from that point on that sports is where her life needed to be and she has not looked back since.

Executive Director of Operations for the Future Legends Complex, Casey Katofsky
Today's guest on the Sports As A Job podcast is Casey Katofsky. He is currently the executive director of operations for the Future Legends Complex. The Complex will be completed in 2021 and when finished will be a 118-acre premier complex for sports and events. He was born and raised in Southern California. He decided he needed to explore outside his bubble and moved to the East Coast where he graduated from Georgetown University's master's program. From there he went on to work for Under Armour in Business Development. He found out that the large sports corporate world might not be the best fit. In this episode we discuss how moving out of your comfort zone is a benefit to your development and how he is becoming a transcendent leader in the sports industry.

The Sports As A Job podcast guest is Emily Chenery. She is a freelance producer and storyteller. She has previously worked with organizations such as ESPN, SEC Network, Flordia Gators, and the CrossFit Games. Emily has worked in the social media field since 2007. Traditionally like many others, she began her career path working full-time. There was a transition where she decided to pursue freelance work but also e the manager for her sister who became a Youtube Beauty Influencer. In this episode, we talk about her childhood, how she got her start in sports, and her social media strategies. What seemed to be a traditional career path ended up being everything else but normal. She is about empowering others in their own journey, lifting heavy stuff, and constantly testing out new social media strategies.

Smith has also managed events for Louisiana State University Athletics, Tulane University Athletics, University of New Orleans Athletics, New Orleans Babycakes, and Landmark Event Staffing Services over the years.

We are joined by Lisa Rubin, from Kansas State University, who serves as the Assistant Professor of Student Services in Intercollegiate Athletics in the College of Education’s Department of Special Education, Counseling, and Student Affairs. Dr. Lisa Rubin teaches courses in both the Student Affairs and Academic Advising programs. Lisa’s job is to advise and help student-athletes with their career goals. Dr. Rubin is active in N4A: The National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals, serving on the Board of Directors, planning the 2010 national convention, and being recognized by her peers with the Professional Excellence Award in 2019 and the Professional Promise Award in 2009. She was named one of the Top 25 Woman Leaders in Higher Education and Beyond by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education in 2017.
