Single-cell analysis for biopharmaceutical in research projects of STACCATO PhD students

Single-cell analysis for biopharmaceutical in research projects of STACCATO PhD students

By STACCATO ITN

Biopharmaceuticals have revolutionized the treatment of chronic diseases. The industry is under considerable pressure to produce “first-in-class medicines” in a cost-effective and safe manner. STACCATO, an EU-funded project under the Marie Sklodowska-Cure Action of Horizon2020 brings together talented PhD students that tackle the challenge through their individual research projects.

Beyond STACCATO: a casual chat of early stage researchers to conclude the series of STACCATO podcasts.

In the final episode of the STACCATO podcast series, Ryan (ESR6), Marco (ESR7) and Nikolaus (ESR8) sit down for a casual conversation over Zoom to discuss a more personal side of their STACCATO experience. The initial interaction between ESRs and the development of strong friendships over the years is discussed. The ESRs reflect on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the personal connections made and conclude by giving their thoughts on what the future holds for the STACCATO researchers.

Insights from BD Research Centre Ireland, Cancer Immunology, and a PhD

Insights from BD Research Centre Ireland, Cancer Immunology, and a PhD

In this episode, Teresa who is an early stage researcher (ESR1) in the STACCATO consortium introduces us to Padraig Fitzgerald who is BD’s senior R&D  director. Padraig gives us an introduction to BD, their research centre in  Ireland and why they became a partner in the STACCATO consortium. We then dive  into some recent results that Teresa has generated as part of her PhD project,  which uses many of BD’s exciting portfolio of instruments and reagents.

How is it like to be a PhD student in science?

How is it like to be a PhD student in science?

Join the true PhDs meeting. Two early stage researchers from STACCATO, Filip (ESR9) and Elham (ESR10) are talking to Naphang and Alex, two PhD fellows who explain their projects and share the experiences they had while working in the Lab. While they both work in CAR-T cell field, they have their own unique and interesting projects. Alex has experience with both academic and industrial sectors and he gives us an overview of how they might differ. Naphang explains how he manages in-vivo experiments and gives some tips on how to write a PhD thesis.

Defining the future of biomanufacturing using high resolution transcriptome profiling

Defining the future of biomanufacturing using high resolution transcriptome profiling

With this episode, join James Clubb, early-stage researcher (ESR4), as he sits down with his father and discusses all things STACCATO. They talk about the promise of oncolytic virotherapy, a new promising treatment for cancer and the manufacturing bottle-neck which limits sufficient supply for trials, hospitals and patients. James also explains how single-cell transcriptome analysis is being used to guide gene-editing strategies, to improve production efficiency of cell lines used in oncolytic virus biomanufacturing.

Have you thought about doing a industrial PhD?

Have you thought about doing a industrial PhD?

With this episode, Kelly and Brian, early stage researchers (ESR11 and ESR5) are introducing STACCATO, an EU-funded PhD training program. They are talking about, what is an industrial PhD and how is living and working in Sweden. In addition, they explain the principle of single-cell transcriptome analysis and how we are using this method for our PhD projects.
