No Duh with Stacey Gotsulias

By Stacey Gotsulias

No Duh is a pop culture podcast for Gen Xers. We'll be discussing TV shows, movies, and music from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s—from the obscure shows that only lasted 6 episodes to the videos that dominated MTV when MTV still showed videos to the movies we grew up quoting so much that our parents threatened to ground us. It's all here on No Duh.

No Duh Episode 6 - A conversation about Xanadu with Paul Francis Sullivan

No Duh Episode 6 - A conversation about Xanadu with Paul Francis Sullivan

In 1980, a movie was released that the world wasn't ready for, it starred Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly and Michael Beck and it was called Xanadu. Billed as a musical fantasy film, it didn't do well at the box office because it was too much for the ordinary movie-going audience, but in the years since its release, it has developed a cult following and has also become one of my favorite movies. When I first mentioned this episode as a possibility, my friend Paul Francis Sullivan, a.k.a. Sully Baseball said, "I will do the Xanadu episode with you." And I was thrilled to find someone else who loved it as much as I did and loved it for what it is.

Sully and I have a conversation about the movie, about its stars, about the music, about other movies of its time and much, much more. I hope that when you're finished with this episode, you appreciate Xanadu as much as we do and I hope that you learn some facts about the film that you may not have known before.

Enjoy!

No Duh Episode 5 - A Conversation with Mike Gianella of Baseball Prospectus Part Deux

No Duh Episode 5 - A Conversation with Mike Gianella of Baseball Prospectus Part Deux

In this episode of the No Duh podcast, part two of my conversation with my good friend Mike Gianella of Baseball Prospectus.

We cover everything from '80s fashion (no, we didn't always wear neon) to our '80s crushes (Lea Thompson in Back to the Future for Mike and Lea Thompson in Jaws 3D for me). We discuss how we chose our sports teams as kids, we remember our first live baseball games and we discuss everything from The Simpsons and It's Garry Shandling's Show to the 1986 Mets and how being a Yankees fan wasn't fun in the '80s. We also talk a bit about sports in the '90s and 00s because we couldn't help ourselves!

Enjoy!

No Duh Episode 4 - A Conversation with Mike Gianella of Baseball Prospectus

In this episode of the No Duh podcast, part one of my conversation with my good friend Mike Gianella of Baseball Prospectus. We cover everything from local NY commercials from the '80s to Friends and Seinfeld to '80s TV shows that didn't last long enough for our liking. We even have a brief conversation about Drake even though the only thing '80s about him is his birth date.

Enjoy!

In today’s episode of No Duh, Stacey will be looking back fondly at Degrassi Junior High. We’re talking about the OG Degrassi kids like Joey Jeremiah, Stephanie Kaye, Lucy Fernandez and Caitlyn Ryan. Along with Snake, Wheels, Spike, Kathleen, Melanie, Arthur and Yik.

First, Stacey gives you some background on the show in case you never watched it and then she’ll get into specific storylines/episodes that you may or may not remember as vividly as she does and she’ll also give you her opinions as to how the show looks to her now as a nearly 45 year old woman rewatching the episodes.

No Duh Episode 1: An intro to the podcast and to Stacey's cheesy music mix

No Duh Episode 1: An intro to the podcast and to Stacey's cheesy music mix

In the inaugural episode of No Duh, host Stacey Gotsulias explains why she started the podcast, what you have to look forward to in future episodes and then she embarrasses herself by revealing the music she relies on when she has a big writing assignment. Hint: It's a mix mostly comprised of 1970s and 80s soft rock/LiteFM music. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) she can't play any of the music but if there are stories to be told about the songs and why they're on the mix, Stacey tells them.
