Stapleford Baptist Church
By Stapleford Baptist Church
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Jesus died on the cross, rose again and through his death and resurrection we can be saved.
So, there is a warm welcome for you or anyone who visits us. We would love you to discover the God who found us and has made us His own!
We meet on Albert Street, Stapleford, Nottingham, NG9 8DB, UK

May 12th - Colossians 1v1-14, Prayer: Meet God face-to-face
Today we're taking a one-week break from our Luke series, because it's the beginning of the week of prayer. So we're taking as our starting point the model that the Apostle Paul. provides at the beginning of his letter to the Christians in Colossae - lots of thanks to God for how he'd changed the believers for the better; lots of prayer that God would continue changing the believers, and lots of praise-filled worship for what God had done for the believers. Lots to model in our prayers!

May 5th - Jesus the bearer of good news, Luke 4v14-44
Jesus Christ is often said to have been a great teacher. Well, today we take a look at (or should that be 'a listen to') Jesus' first sermon as recorded by Luke. In some ways it's Jesus' manifesto of who he is and what he does. And in giving this sermon, Jesus stirs up some anger from those who don't want to listen to his remarkable message. But, as is still true today, while Jesus' words anger some, he's greatly appreciated by others.

April 28th - Jesus the Son of God, Luke 3v21-4:v14
In today's look into Luke's record of what Christ did and what it tells us about who he is. There are very high points in today's account. And the depths are plumbed too. But through highs and lows Luke's message is plain: Jesus is none other than the Son of the God of the universe come to be a human just like you and me. Amazing!

April 21st - Jesus, greater than a prophet, Luke 3v1-20
Some years ago, one of the Royal Family visited Nottingham and did a walkabout. Crowds of people came to see her and hoped to shake her hand or to exchange a few words with her. Imagine if her reply had been 'Don't look at me, look at the person who's coming next, they're a 1000 times more important than me'! That's the sort of thing that's recorded in this second episode of our Luke series when John points to Jesus. Now, why did he do that?

April 14th - Jesus, the Son of the Father, Luke 2v41-52
Today we start a new series of sermons taken from the Bible book called Luke. He's the person who put pen to paper in order to record what he called an 'orderly account' of the life of Jesus Christ on earth. We'll see that he takes us through a series of events that show us more and more about the character and nature of Jesus Christ. At the start he's keen to point out that Jesus is the Son of God the Father.
Thank you so much for spending time with us o. We hope you have found what you have heard helpful. If you have any questions do get in touch with us- we would love to hear from you!

April 7th - An encounter with the risen Christ, Luke 24v13-35
Today we meet two people who went on a journey with Jesus ... but didn't realize who their travelling companion was! How is it possible to be in the dark about someone who is so close to us and so good? Maybe, in many respects, we're no different! Listen in and find out what the result was for the two people we meet in the Bible and figure out what the result ought to be for us.

March 31st - Christ is risen, Luke 24v1-12
So. Here we are! At the greatest day in the Church calendar when we celebrate Christ's resurrection! Because he has died, and now lives, we too can live forever with him eternally - finally free of everything that's evil. Amazing!

March 24th - Christ's humble coronation procession, Luke 19 v28-40
One week before the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. One week before what we call Easter. At the moment, everything's looking rosy - it's Palm Sunday and most people are giving Jesus the red carpet treatment (well, a green carpet of palm leaves!). But it will only be a few days before Jesus will be arrested on a trumped-up charge, found guilty, purely out of convenience to his accusers, tortured, crucified and buried. Are you a 'palm leaf wielder' or someone who'll wield a hammer to nail him to the cross?

March 17th - Confession & repentance, Ezra 10
The last episode from the Bible book of Ezra. There have been highs and lows since we started just after Christmas - and today's look at the book starts at a real low point. But it doesn't end there. Even when the characters in the book realize they've been really stupid and bad (the two often go together!), there's hope ... provided they take action! A lesson for us all?

March 10th - Learn from the past, or be doomed to repeat it, Ezra 9
It's easy to point the finger at others - in this case at the returned exiles who started to behave just like their predecessors who'd been exiled because of their behaviour. But, so often, we do the same! We've been taught a lesson as a consequence of something we've done, but it doesn't stop us doing it again! Can't we do any better? In today's talk we'll hear a bit about God's holiness - and the response we need!

March 3rd - Humbling yourself under God's hand, Ezra 8
Today's look at the Bible book of Ezra finds the exiles collecting together, near Babylon, ready to head back to Jerusalem - a risky journey with many dangers on the way. And they need to have the right people in the assembly. What are they to do? Listen and find out!

February 25th - Set your heart on God, Ezra 7
Finally, Ezra himself appears in the book bearing his name! Many years have passed since the events of Chapter 6 and God's people have lost a lot of their enthusiasm to worship God. They need a wake-up call! And God sends someone, Ezra, who has dedicated himself to God even gets the king of the day to support Ezra's mission. Maybe if we dedicate ourselves to God we'll be able to achieve God's mission for us.

February 18th - Under God's thumb, Ezra 6
Last week we left the temple builders in a cliff-hanger - will King Darius put an end to the rebuilding? Sorry, no *spoilers* here - you'll have to listen to find out! But God's track record might give you a good chance of getting the right answer even if you haven't read the chapter of the Bible's book of Ezra that we cover this morning. But one thing's for sure - though Darius may think he's king, there's a king with a lot more power on a much more impressive throne. And that leads to a lot of Joy when we live in his kingdom, his way.

February 11th - How to go God's way, Ezra 5
So, here we are almost halfway though the Bible's book of Ezra. The exiles who've returned have been knocked back in Chapter 4, but they get themselves back into action. They've been reminded how God worked in the past, so they press on even though there are difficulties, assured that God is with them. Theses are great lessons to learn ... but sometimes we're pretty poor at learning them!

Already the 4th episode in our series on the Bible's book of Ezra. The elation and celebration are over - things take a sharp turn for the worse as the neighbours arrive and do their worst. The people who'd been able to return from captivity face a really significant challenge - what are they to do?

December 24th - A King worth Singing About, Luke 1:26-50
Almost there! It's Christmas Eve and we've reached the 4th in our Advent series. Today we meet Mary for the first time. Probably a youngish teenager, an angel surprises her, more than a little, with the news that God has decided that she will give birth to his Son - a boy to be named Jesus because he's to be the Saviour. What an astounding thing - and just as astounding is the fact that he's still saving people like you from their sin, and from eternal separation from God. Watch and listen and make sure he's your saviour.

December 17th - What's in a Name?, Luke 1 v67-80
In this third Advent season service, we're minutes later in the story from last week. Zechariah, has his voice back and uses it to praise God for his tremendous intervention - bringing rescue, redemption and the ability to enjoy God. He's got God-given words for his baby son too - that he'll be instrumental in gathering a multitude of people to God as they receive complete forgiveness, mercy and guidance 'into the path of peace'. No wonder he's excited - and so should we be!

December 10th - Praise & proclaim, Luke 1 v57-66
In our second Advent season service, we've moved on about a year. Zechariah, who was struck dumb in last week's investigation, has to give a name to his newborn son. When he indicates that the name is what God has chosen beforehand, he finds his voice and lets rip in praise to God. Everyone is amazed and asks themselves "Just who is this baby going to be?". Our service today gives more than a clue to the answer!

December 3rd - God has remembered again, Luke 1 v5-25
Christmas is coming, and SBC is getting ready to celebrate the birth on earth of our Saviour, the lord Jesus Christ - majestic King of the Universe yet also a utterly dependent baby in a cow's feeding trough. And, to get ready, today we're looking at some human relatives of his - Zechariah & Elizabeth - about 1 year before Jesus Christ was born. Zechariah gets a surprise that leaves him speechless!

November 19th - Church Weekend, Titus 2&3
Today our topic is fellowship - Christians together living for our Saviour's honour and praise. The morning service is part of our weekend of events. If you're not watching this live then we'll already have eaten lunch together by the time you view. People of very different backgrounds and interests helping each other, caring for each other and worshipping Jesus together is one of the amazing features of Christianity - because we want to become less important and we want Jesus Christ to become more important. November 12th - Remember the basics, Hebrews 13:1-17
We're nearing the end of our series based on the Bible book of Hebrews. Today we look at a whole series of key advice points that the writer gives to us, the readers. Key pointers to living as Christ wants us. They're all pretty straightforward - so why do we find it so difficult to live like this - and the answer is that we need Christ to be Lord, not just in title but in reality in each of our lives.

In our continuing series of talks based on the Bible book of Hebrews, today we are grabbed by the urgency of living not as ordinary earthlings, but as citizens of God's eternal kingdom. There Jesus reigns perfectly and peaceably over citizens who joyfully accept his rule. There God has made every citizen perfect. We haven't arrived physically yet, but we can arrive spiritually, guaranteeing an eternal citizenship of unimaginable good.

Having been introduced, last week, to the first few remarkable stories of faith at work, join us on-line to discover more about living faith. Sometimes amazing (and positive) actions are achieved ... even resurrection; but the same living faith can also be discovered in the hearts of those who go through immense suffering, even dying at the hands of their enemies and in those who mess-up, big-time. The same faith, recognized and accepted by God just the same. Something we all need.

October 8th - Persevere & draw near to God, Hebrews 10 v19-39
Over the last few weeks of our studies in the Bible book of Hebrews we've been looking at how great Jesus Christ is. And that's been a super encouragement to be a 100% Christian. But the writer of that book knows very well that all kinds of difficulties come our way, so today the book's message is to press on when such difficulties face us by drawing nearer to God. When pressures mount and God seems far away, then is the time to fight to get closer to him. This weeks "Kids Resources" are here: https://staplefordbaptist.org/community/sunday-gathering/

October 1st - Christ's sacrifice is the perfect sacrifice, Hebrews 10:1-18
In many ways, today's service picks up on the same subject as last week - the marvellous nature of Christ's sacrifice on the cross to take away the punishment that each of his followers should be bearing for themselves. But there are so many wonderful aspects that even 2 Sunday sermons can never expect to unpick all it's draw-dropping aspects! So, whether you heard last week's or not, join us to be amazed, very amazed!

September 24th - The blood of Christ is a better sacrifice, Hebrews 9:11-28
The first readers of the Bible book of Hebrews were in danger of overlooking the greatness of the sacrifice that Jesus made for then when he died on the cross. And we may be in the same danger! So, this week, our aim is to inspect the power, the finality and the wonder of Jesus Christ, dying in our place. September 17th - Worship in the earthly temple points to Christ, Hebrews 9:1-10
The Jews thought that their temple worship was the best of the best, but the writer of the Bible book of Hebrews says it's only a pointer ... but what a pointer because it points the Jesus Christ. The temple the writer was talking about was destroyed almost 2000 years ago, but the lessons it taught about Jesus Christ still need to be learnt today - by us. And that's what we hope to do in this podcast.

September 10th - The new covenant of Jesus, the Great High Priest, Hebrews 8
Today, we return to our series of studies in the Bible book of Hebrews. We left off at the end of Chapter 7,so today we loom at the whole of Chapter 8 - and find the writer of the book pointing out yet another facet of the uniqueness of Christ - he's a bit like the Jewish High Priest, but much more so and coming with a much greater promise - a promise that each one of us should to take notice of.

September 3rd - New Beginnings, Joshua 1
As we begin the Autumn programme at SBC, we've chosen, for the first Sunday, to consider a biblical new beginning. Joshua, who has been Moses' helper for many years suddenly has to step into the role of leading the march of a huge number of men, women, children and livestock across a deep river and into enemy territory. It' definitely a new beginning for him and, ignoring the fact that rivers are made of water (!) it's a baptism of fire. How will he cope? Join us and find out ... with plenty of lessons for all who are facing their own new beginning. Thank you so much for spending time with us on the Stapleford Baptist Church YouTube Channel. August 27th - God provides a substitute, Genesis 22
Finally, after a long wait, the key human in our Summer series - Abraham - has got the son God promised him and for whom he's been waiting for absolutely ages. And now God asks him to sacrifice his son. WHAT! As the story unfolds we find that God wants to teach Abraham, and us too, a vital lesson. Evil needs punishment. It's so bad that the ultimate punishment is due ... it will destroy every one of us unless God himself steps in to take the punishment himself. And that's what Jesus Christ has done for everyone who trusts him.

August 20th - A tale of 2 sons, Genesis 21
In this next part of our look at the life of Abraham we see Abraham being commendable and not-so-commendable, while God remains faithful in every relationship. God cares about the results of the times when Abraham trusted God and also about the results of those times when he did not.

August 13th - How to reason with God, Genesis 18 v16-33
Sometimes, the prospect of what is about to happen is so awful that we really want God to intervene and stop the bad thing from happening. In our look at the story of Abraham in the Bible, today we arrive at an event like this in Abraham's life. What is he to do? Well, he tries to negotiate a better outcome with God. Will God listen to him? Join us to find out ... and to find out how we can talk to God about our fears. Thank you so much for spending time with us on the Stapleford Baptist Church YouTube Channel. August 6th - Abraham meets the lord, Genesis 18v1-15
Abraham's encounters with God ramp up to a new level in today's look into the Bible book of Genesis. God had spoken to him several times before but now Abraham meets him face-to-face. And God announces that the promises he's made to Abraham many years earlier are about to be fulfilled, never mind the apparent impossibility of that happening. Can Abraham and his wife, Sarah, trust God in such a situation when their brains shout out 'impossible'? Can we trust God when seemingly impossible situations face us?

July 30th - A one-sided covenant, Genesis 17
In today's look into the Bible book of Genesis we see how unreasonable God is - he is super generous, even to those who doubt his generosity and power. In this excerpt from the life of Abraham, we find God being amazingly good and Abraham laughing in disbelief. But while Abraham's initial response may have been to doubt God, he did respond in obedience to what God asked of him. And that turn-around is a lesson for each one of us. -

July 23rd - The eyesight of faith, Genesis 16
Today in our look at the story of Abraham, as recounted in the Bible book of Genesis, we encounter Abraham wih poor faith-sight, a slave with good faith-sight and God with 20-20 vision, even of people's hearts. We find that God sees the good and the bad, the suffering and the joy ... and asks us to respond as he responds even to those who refuse to look at him.

July 16th -Abraham gets a wild promise ... and believes it
Continuing the story of Abraham as recounted in the Bible book of Genesis, we encounter God making an astounding promise to Abraham in Chapter 15. Despite it seeming wildly improbable, Abraham takes God at his word and gets far more from God than he could have imagined. God hasn't changed. He still gives huge promises that are so difficult to fully grasp - but he still keeps those promises. Let's find out today what he's promising us.

July 9th - Genesis 14, Abraham rescues Lot
After a short break, today's sermon picks up the story of Abraham as recounted in the Bible book of Genesis, Chapter 14. His nephew, and all his nephew's family and belongings, have been raided by a posse of minor kings. So Abraham sets out on a rescue mission ... and he's very definite about thanking God for its success. Maybe we can learn something today about seeing God at work in our lives and worshipping his goodness towards us and in us.

July 2nd - Acts 8 v 26-39, Baptism: the who and the when
Jesus' followers in the first century were baptized outdoors in any available piece of water. Today we (and Andy) were fortunate enough to have water indoors for the purpose! But the reason and the requirements are just the same as they were for an Ethiopian government official as we'll hear about today. Is it time that you were baptized?

June 25th - Jesus the Greatest of All Time
You've dropped in on a guest service ... so a special welcome if you are a guest. The service today is a little shorter than normal because the kids are staying in with the adults all the time. To keep the attention of as many as possible, the talk today is broken up into small chunks, too. But the subject is the key to Christianity, to life and to death., to the whole universe - it's Jesus Christ, the Greatest human who ever walked on earth.

June 18th - Genesis 13, Relatively Closer to Christ
Today's look at the life of Abraham takes us to one of the key decision points in anyone's life - whether to live on the basis of what seems like a good thing to do or whether to live by faith in God who promises far better than we can see or grasp. A powerful lesson that we all find difficult to learn.

June 11th - Genesis 12v10-13v4, Even good people fall
Abraham gets a good press in the Bible ... mostly. But like every human (except Jesus Christ) he's fallible and can be corrupt. In this second look at his life we find him running scared and making some very bad decisions - with fallout in every direction. In fact, he's uncomfortably like us even though he lived about 4000 years ago! This weeks "Kids Resources" are here :- http://staplefordbaptist.org/community/sunday-gathering/

June 4th - Genesis 11v27-12v9, The Promises of God
Today we start our new series from the life of Abraham as recorded in the Bible book of Genesis. In this first look we find God making promises to Abram (as he was then known). Why? Because God is merciful! Why not join us each Sunday over the next couple of months as we track through the many interactions between Abram/Abraham and God.
