Episode - 9 Breaking the Cycle

Episode - 9 Breaking the Cycle

Studies and research, have revealed that the environment in which a child grows up plays a significant role in determining the child’s future. Adverse childhood experiences like abuse, trauma and neglect have been linked with negative health indicators in adults.

What children experience while growing up has huge implications for who they become as adults.  It is not uncommon for children who are impacted by adverse childhood experiences to have parents that also experienced abuse, trauma or neglect as a child. It is unfortunate but this can create a vicious cycle that can last generations.

In today’s podcast, we talk with Juan Solis an Amazing Dad that is breaking the generational cycle of trauma and creating a new legacy for his family.

Episode 8 - Disrupting The Landscape of Social Services

Episode 8 - Disrupting The Landscape of Social Services

Countless studies have shown that the role of a father is integral to the well-being of a child and ultimately the family. That’s why fathers are often challenged to step up and be actively engaged in their lives of their children. But what often goes unnoticed is the lack of support available for fathers. Historically social services designed to support families have leaned heavily towards women and children with very few programs and services specifically for fathers.

One organization that is disrupting the historical narrative is the Black Female Fatherhood Scholars Network.  A network of black female scholars who are committed to uplifting the black community through the study of Black fatherhood and Black families.  In today’s podcast, we will talk with Dr. Brianna Lemmons (Founder & President) and Dr. Latrice Rollins (Vice President) of the Black Female Fatherhood Scholars Network, about the important role Black Women can play in supporting Black fathers and families.

Episode 4 - Black Fathers of Waco

Episode 4 - Black Fathers of Waco

In an article entitled The truth about Black fatherhood Alecia Eberhardt-Smith address the stereotype of Black fathers as “absent” and Black children as “fatherless”. According to a 2013 National health statistics report report by the CDC, Black dads—whether they live with their children, or not—are more actively involved in their children’s lives than their counterparts of other races.
The commitment of Black fathers can be seen in the recent formation of “Black Fathers of Waco”. “Black Fathers of Waco” is an organization started in Waco Texas that provides a space for Black Dads and their families to connect and find support and community in their parenting journey. In Today’s podcast we are speaking with Drexel King and Darius Brown the founders of “Black Fathers of Waco”.

Episode 3 - The Life of a Stay-at-home Dad

In Today’s podcast we are speaking with David Anderson. David breaks the mold of the traditional father, for more than a decade he has been the primary caregiver for his family.  David is an Amazing Dad and today we will talk to him about the life of a stay at home dad.
