EP 59 : Sailing in a Storm: Making a crisis work for you | A discussion with the Author - TN Hari
The COVID-19 pandemic was a bolt from the blue. The world never expected it; neither was it prepared. This is a kind of crisis that most of us are unlikely to experience more than once in our lifetimes. Individuals and companies are trying hard to cope and adapt. The truth though is that we constantly deal with crises in our lives. A crisis can be a great opportunity for innovation. Almost every great innovation has been in response to a crisis of some sort. We have seen this in recent times, and we have seen this throughout history. Sailing through a Storm, by TN Hari and Sanjay Swamy, brings us this hope. An inspiring read, this comprises beautiful stories of women and men who dealt with adversity, how they emerged strong and successful, and how drawing from their lives we too can turn the storm around to make it work for us.   Join Roshan in conversation with Hari as we try to understand more about the inspiration behind his latest book.

Byte 12 : Marketing is a force multiplier | Roshan Cariappa
Most startups bias towards sales and product in the early days. It’s right for leadership to invest most of their time and energy into enabling the first few successful sales reps or working with product teams building product, of course. But, soon enough this isn’t the best use of Leadership time and any additional effort only gives a marginal increase in gains. If you want your sales to extend beyond people and relationships, if you want to add more depth to your product, then you have no other way out than to invest in marketing to increase lead velocity and brand awareness.

Byte 11 : The perfect employee fallacy | Roshan Cariappa
The perfect employee fallacy goes like this - if a person on the team is fantastic at something, but lacking in other areas, we should enable him/her to improve on his/her weaknesses and measure progress on that basis.  But, only a machine capable of producing reliable, quality work through all of those good characteristics. And humans are not machines. They have their natural proclivities and tend to bias one way or another.  In this episode, we'll be talking about why you should avoid this mindset at all costs.

Something we should beware of as operators and entrepreneurs is being under-leveraged when this crisis passes over eventually. The greatest temptation as a leader is to just do it all yourself. And it's an alluring thought - because, you can hold yourself to the expected standards without any dependencies.
