How to Remain Steadfast
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, remain Steadfast. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 Steadfast ...immovable ...unwavering.  What images do these conjure up in your mind?  Maximus Meridius from Gladiator?  William Wallace from Braveheart?  Maybe an image of Moses and his staff leaning forward with supernatural strength against an insurmountable force? Nah - I don’t find these so great. Join in my trying on a different approach to rise up to tha challenge that Paul offers in 1st Corinthians.

The Danger of Thinking you Know
There’s an incredibly common message in the growth community that you don’t need to know “The How” - It is a POWERFUL message that combats the belief that we need to know exactly what to do in order to do anything properly. There’s a subtle other, and less talked about twist on this though.  Thinning that you DO know how ...often followed by, “And I am not capable!” I quietly suffered with this lie in my head for a few years after a vasectomy.  I was incapable of offering Whit the family she wanted, I was outside of God's plan for our marriage, and I had blown it with a selfish decision.  And it felt so true because “I know exactly how pregnancy happens ...and I’m not capable.” Or maybe - I don’t know as much as I think I do and when I see an impossible situation I will expect God to do a miracle.

Ask Steadfast: How to be Kind to Yourself
This is probably the 3rd most common myth we hear on a daily basis ...If I’m nice to myself, I’ll let myself off the hook and I’ll become complacent, lazy, and stagnant. I’d try to be more gentle and open minded with this  ...but it’s just plain false!! Try this little thought experiment: Think about that grade school teacher that you loved ...that you STILL smile when you think about.  Think about the love of learning that was lit up inside you.  Possibly only to be snuffed out by some power hungry overbearing taskmaster who could never be pleased a few years later. Now ...which teacher are you choosing to be when you talk to you?  And what is the justification for that again?  Effectiveness???

Lessons from 365 Days of Meditation
After a vasectomy reversal, Jake was looking for exercise and the ONLY option was to walk slowly.  Jake decided to use the time for meditation and before long he fell in love with the practice and continued the daily practice for an entire year. Whit Summited Mt. Langley ...PREGNANT
Whit and I had just returned from a fast paced 60 mile backpacking trip in the Sierras where Whit had noticed her body doing some strange things: Waves of nausea Dizzy spells Easily fatigued It was interesting ...but all could be chalked up to the elevations we reached on the trip.  And then we got the results of the pregnancy test!!! I Almost Drowned my Buddy - Why Belief is EVERYTHING
It was my job to read the currents and keep us safe - I didn’t do a very good job and things took a dangerous turn.  But Dan didn’t panic - with no tangible evidence Dan BELIEVED that, “It would probably be OK.” But how can someone believe that when there is a significant probability that it won’t??? Because although your BELIEF is about the future, it's FOR the present.  It’s all about where you focus your attention to maximize your ability to show up RIGHT NOW! I got in a FIGHT with Whit

Taking Risks in Real Life
I was an EXPERT high school math teacher - On the first day of school you could hear me welcoming my new students with, "Welcome to your FAVORITE class this year."  I was confident ...and I could deliver. Then one fine day I left that world and set out to build a business - BOOM!!!  Talk about a blow to the ego.  My swagger suddenly looked more like a limp. Allowing Disappointment - Whit's Story
Learn to Allow the TOUGH emotion:  www.steadfastlifecoaching.com BIG BELIEF is just so scary because it creates opportunity for BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!  I suppose you could just believe small, achieve small, love small, and live small, but if you're reading this - those kinds of solutions are not an option for you! The best solution is to build your CAPACITY to feel disappointment so that when it does show up, it doesn't have such a devastating impact. How do you do that?  You FEEL it!  You don't buffer it, you don't resist it, and you don't appease it.  You ALLOW it. Laughing through the Heavy Stuff
The best word to describe the time we've spent with Lindsey is DELIGHTFUL.  As we worked with her and watched her grow through over 65lbs of weight loss, we would consistently find ourselves blown away by 2 things: 1. Lindsey's willingness to hold her story loosely.  She had her justifications, her excuses, and her well rehearsed stories of her limitations just like the rest of us.  The difference was that she wasn't so chained to them.  When she saw them, rather than fight to defend them ...she would laugh ...HARD! 2.  Lindsey's consistency in her weight loss - as a matter of fact she has had the most steady and uninterrupted weight loss of any client we've worked with. Now she is NOT the most driven, striving, hustling, grinding client we've worked with ...hmmm, isn't that interesting. Is there something to this "laughing and adapting" technique of hers??  We think it's worth exploring in a podcast for sure!!

Your Worth is NOT a Number on a Scale
When Chelsie started her time with Steadfast Life Coaching, her biggest obstacle was that she didn't believe she was worth the tough choices required to reach her goals.  She was plagued by lies running on repeat in her mind that had been so well practiced they now felt like truth. The journey away from one framework of belief to another can be extremely uncomfortable, so Chelsie started off by borrowing belief from Whitney and I ...and her supportive husband.  As she kept doing the work she built some belief in herself and the progress was even faster. Recently she began to include her faith in Jesus as she sought this transformation ...and that adjustment has changed EVERYTHING!!! Life After People Pleasing with Shanna Nail
You've been there before.  You're committed.  You've got a plan.  You've prepped your veggies and protein.  This is the week you're going to make the changes.  And then it begins: "Mom - I'm not going to be able to eat before practice tonight." "Is it OK if Maddy spends the night?" "Hey babe, let's do date night Thursday night.  What do you say to going out to a nice restaurant and getting appetizers AND dessert!?!?" Maybe you even get the words out, "I had planned to eat healthy this week." But the rebuttals come in, "Oh come on - you deserve a night out."  "One dinner won't make that much of a difference." And deep down, you agree, but mostly because you think the same stuff.  It's not going to make a difference, I'll just blow it in a few days anyway, it's so selfish to ruin everyone's night since I never even stick with it." ...and there it is.  You go to the back burner, your weight stays the same, you have plenty of fuel to beat yourself up for failing again. But at least other people are happy ...for tonight. What if you could end that cycle?  What if you could fill yourself up with so much love and validation that you become the example you dream of being for your family?  How would you show up differently at your ideal health? Is it really selfish to make some difficult choices on the way to that change? I like the way Shanna puts it, "NO!" How to Overcome Impossible
As Whit and I get back to life after taking 12 teenagers on a 7 day wilderness adventure, we reflect on some of the insights that came up while the kids were staring at challenges with NO BELIEF that success was possible.  Then what they learned as they leaned into the impossible hard enough to make it possible. The key is the fuel ...the emotion ...the feeling that you are experience as you are taking on a difficult challenge.  I KNOW you have a "mountain" of your own - that challenge in your own life that just looks impossible from here.  I believe that these lesson learned in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California are the same lessons that help you to climb yours. You've Got to Believe it to See it.
"I'll believe it when I see it" - we've all thought it, we've probably all said it, but what if the entire premise is wrong. Every time I've tried to chase down a scary goal or make a big change in my life I do a risk/reward or cost/benefit analysis in my head.  Ultimately I come to the same conclusion - if the result was guaranteed by certain date and come a certain way, then the goal wouldn't be scary.  The scary part is all the risk and all the reward have to be put in up front and reward is "out there" somewhere. One thing I know for sure - if I DON'T put in the work I will FOR SURE miss out on the reward.  So the conclusion is this ..."I need to see it to believe it." is a cop out.  It's a trick that our lizard brain uses to keep us safe and comfortable.  The truth is that we need to believe it FIRST, then we'll take the actions that will allow us to see it. What if Backwards isn't Worse
Whit and I went on a 5 day mountain climbing expedition.  There were so many things that happened, so many choices that had outcomes, so many times we tried to evaluate if those outcomes were better or worse than before we took action.  At the end of the day, things that we thoughts were great were more of a hindrance once we knew the whole story, and by the same token, things that we thoughts were errors turned out to be JUST the outcomes that ensured a successful summit of THE TALLEST MOUNTAIN in the Lower 48 States.
