Episode 45- Bruce Penhall/The Real 45

Episode 45- Bruce Penhall/The Real 45

This is the Episode that Greg has been waiting for. Well, we have have been building up to Episode 45 and trying to determine what guest we would approach. Of course it was an easy choice with 2x World Speedway Champion, Hollywood Actor and a great mentor/hero to Greg: Bruce Penhall! As a kid, Greg wanted the number 45 which came from his hero Bruce Penhall and has stuck with him throughout his career to date. In the world of speedway, most people know who the number 45 belongs to but what more lies behind it??
This podcast brought out some interesting yet truthful stories that many don't know and that includes Greg. Much success with racing, a great Hollywood career, and family man who had a hard time getting away from racing. Following the tragic accident with Bruce's youngest son Connor, life changed quickly for the Penhall family and you too should hear how.
We could not make the trip to California to get this podcast with Bruce so it was done over a weblink which went pretty good most of the way but we ended with a severly disrupted signal at the later stage of the Podcast. We considered re-recording the podcast but the content that we got from Bruce relating to the family and accident involving his son Connor was so touching that we could not do that again and have it spelled out so clearly. Please, please accept our apologies with the late disruptions but do not be discouraged from listening to this touching story. Bruce Penhall is a true legend...

Thanks for listening. Reel 45

Episode 38- They Need to be Grounded! Erik Gundersen

This week, Greg was in Horsens, Denmark for the Danish Speedway GP and Stefan was on regular duties back in Norrtälje. On route to Horsens Greg made time to stop into Tjæreborg, Denmark and visit his longtime friend and big hero/mentor Erik Gundersen along with his wife Helle at their home.
From the early days of Greg’s European career riding in the same team with Erik to having the opportunity to live in the same house with Erik and Helle in his second season and less than a year after Erik’s career ending neck injury, it’s quite a story. Erik continues to be a hero for Greg and is the current coach/trainer/mentor to the future Danish Speedway stars.
Erik, Helle and Greg take a step back in time to talk about their careers and the life they’ve led up to present day. Erik elaborated his thoughts about teaching the kids including Greg back in the day as well as how important it is to get them grounded. Join us for this entertaining yet informative conversation with Pove Persson from Sweden’s Norrtälje Tidning newspaper. Many riders are easy to get the interview but there are also numerous that can be difficult or make you feel like you are talking to yourself as we (Reel45) put it. As we began our Podcast with Pove, he was also trying to get that interview from Greg at the same time so it seemed like he tried to trap us instead! :) Greg and Pove have a long time business relationship which has turned into a friendship at the same time. There is a lot of sarcasm within their relationship so it leaves many to wonder “whats on the record or whats off the record”????!!! Listen here and decide for yourself.

Episode 28 - Making Magic

Episode 28 - Making Magic

This week’s episode 28 is with Maciej Janowski and we are calling it: “Making Magic”! Everyone knows my log time relationship with Magic and this is truly one of the most awaited episodes that I’ve wanted. He is such an amazing kid with a huge heart and massive love for the game. I’ve had the pleasure of helping him a little on his run up to the current day but it has to be said that Magic has made it on his own. My mechanic Rafal Haj picked up Magic from an early age of about 12 years old and introduced him to me when he was 13. Magic has always had the look in his eye and that’s what had me sold on the kid from day one. He could not even speak english when we first met but he has grown to be a great human being and a massive star in his home country of Poland. I am proud to say that I know Maciej Janowski and will stand behind him always. Even though we compete against each other, we have a huge mutual respect for one another. Watch him continue to grow!! - Greg Hancock

Episode 24- Speedway Best Pairs

Episode 24- Speedway Best Pairs

Episode 24 was recorded on Sunday evening March 25th over a web link from the Hotel lobby in Gdansk, Poland. Greg was joined by Jack Holder and Darryl “Dizz” Thornton from Monster Energy Europe. Greg and Jack along with Pawel Przedpelski were teamed up for the Monster Energy Team at the Speedway Best Pairs last Sunday. Pawel couldn’t be with us but Darryl “Dizz” was our Team Manager replacing Monster Joe who was at another event in the desert. We had a cool and very casual chat about the Speedway Best Pairs, Jack Holder’s season ahead, what it’s like for Dizz to work for Monster Energy as well as his role with the company and at the Speedway Best Pairs in Torun. We believe that you will Love this episode. After you hear it, you will see that we will definitely have a follow up episode with Jack Holder! 😉😬 Cool and rather comedic at the same time. With the speedway season about to kick off, Greg brings Luke Becker back to the Podcast to discuss their first week in Europe. They’ve been plagued with sun, snow and rain along with freezing temps but that doesn’t stop them searching. It’s not all fun and games when making your first career move to another part of the world but Luke Becker seems to be in good hands anyway. Between Greg and his crew, Luke’s future is about to kick off in a big way.

Episode 21- Youth Gone Wild / Sebastian Palmese

We had a cool chat with Sebastian Palmese who is the current USA 250cc National Champion and one with a huge future in the sport. Sebastian is one of the most humble and caring people that anyone could meet. He was born to get sideways! His father Jason was a BMX National Champion from California so Sebastian has the winning ambition in his blood. He already has 2x 150 National Championships, 2x 250 National Championships but is yet to win the hugely popular Jr Speedway Gumball Rally that takes place at Industry Racing this Sunday March 11th. You will be able to livestream this event form the Industry Racing website http://industryracing.com!

Heat 20! Opening Doors with Luke Becker..

Welcome to this weeks Episode 20- Heat 20! Opening Doors with Luke Becker
Listen to this inspirational story of an only kid who truly wants to make the great and become a World
Speedway Champion. Luke Becker grew up as any other young dirt loving kid who just
wanted to go fast. His no holds barred, just give me the chance attitude is incredible. A
broken Tib and Fib in round 2 of the 2017 US Nationals is the only thing that stopped this kid
from getting the green light to race in the UK in 2018. Now he will do it his own way with the
help of fellow American Greg Hancock. Check it out!
