Happy Halloween Part 2

Happy Halloween Part 2

Halloween can be triggering for those of us with mental illness. Unresolved trauma can surface during this time. Not everyone celebrates or they may celebrate in a way that excludes gore, spookiness and fright. If that's you, I understand.

Happy Halloween Part 1

Happy Halloween Part 1

Let's talk about the scary aspect of cohabitating with others who also have a chronic illness. Does it work for you? Or does it leave you running from your home like it's haunted? Also, how do we return to "normal" after this pandemic when our version of normal never was normal?

Fall Check-in

Fall Check-in

Just checking in. Fall is upon us and that can mean cooler temps, which is great for heat intolerance, but we also welcome fall allergens -- which is not so cool. Daylight savings time and darker days can be a bummer for SAD, depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. Also, do you live with someone who also has a chronic illness? Do you find it helpful or does it make everything worse? I want to talk to you about it on an upcoming podcast, so get in touch!

Weekends with a Chronic Illness

Weekends with a Chronic Illness

Did you know that the weekends are not always the most fun for people with chronic illnesses and disabilities? Sometimes we get out and do fun stuff but a lot of times we spend it inside reading a book, watching a movie or doing something really low-key so our symptoms don't flare. If you know somebody with a chronic illness that lives by themselves, reach out and say hello. If you can, stop by for an hour or two. :) If you are someone with a chronic illness, then you know exactly what I mean.

Mental Illnesses are Chronic Illnesses

Mental Illnesses are Chronic Illnesses

If you struggle with a mood disorder/mental illness (depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, phobias, ect.) you are part of the chronic illness community.  Often times, people with mental illnesses are overlooked. You get more understanding and sympathy from having a broken arm or heart attack than you do for having to live with ongoing mental health issues.
