"Now Hear This!" with Rob Roy

"Now Hear This!" with Rob Roy

This episode originally aired on Facebook Live and YouTube on July 1, 2023. Hearing safety is important for everyone’s health. Regular exposure to high decibel noise can contribute to early and permanent hearing loss.

For some professions and activities, it’s important to protect hearing while at the same time not restricting environmental and ambient sounds for safety.

Until now, earphones and buds that provide decibel protection often sacrifice environmental safety, and vice versa. But a revolutionary new technology is changing that, with a wearable device that filters damaging sound waves while permitting directional sound from the outside.

We’ll demonstrate this new device live and talk to Rob Roy, a professional producer, sound engineer about how it can benefit those working in professions including construction, manufacturing, in warehouses and at airports, as well as those engaged in activities such as hunting and attending concerts.

When should you replace your toothbrush? How frequently should you launder your clothes? How often should you take a shower? How many times a year should you test your smoke detectors?

Can we get beyond the fear, beyond the embarrassment, beyond the stigma to see the times when circumstances don't turn out the way we want as opportunities for growth. Can we even view what those around us call "failure" as something to embrace?

Lisa Steele joins the show to share her perspective on failure, as a public health and organizational development professional, and as someone who - like the rest of us - has addressed failure in her own life.
