From Nothing to Notable with Ryan Avery
Episode 56. From Nothing to Notable with Ryan Avery How do you use stories to stop being "a" leader and become "the" leader? What's the problem with motivational speakers? And why should you NOT step out of your comfort zone?  Welcome to The Storypowers Podcast, the show about the power of stories, the people who tell them and why you should be doing it too. I’m your host, keynote speaker and storytelling coach, Francisco Mahfuz. My guest today is Ryan Avery. Ryan is one of the nicest people you could ever meet, but he’s been making me feel guilty for a decade. And then Ryan, at age 25, became the youngest World Champion of Public Speaking in history, only 8 MONTHS after he joined. Thanks for that, Ryan. Episode 33. Tell Stories to Land Your Dream Job with Ben White  How should you tell the story of your career? What's the best way to answer the questions every recruiter asks? How can companies and recruiters use stories to bring in the best candidates?   Welcome to the Storypowers podcast, the show about the power of stories, the people who tell them and why you should be doing it too. I’m your host, keynote speaker and storytelling coach, Francisco Mahfuz.  My guest today is Ben White. Ben is a Director at Titus Talent Strategies, and he is an expert on all things recruitment. He is making a name for himself on social media as a respected voice on talent acquisition, retention, leadership and culture.  As you might have noticed, Ben is not a storyteller, professional speaker, marketing or branding expert, so what is he doing on my podcast?  Well, he’s here because I wanted to explore how storytelling fits in someone’s career, from the story told by your CV and past experience all the way to the stories candidates and recruiters tell about themselves and the companies they represent.  You can find Ben on LinkedIn, and also at Titus Talent Strategies.   If you like the show, please leave us a rating on Apple podcasts, share it and SUBSCRIBE! 23. Crushing Social Media through Video Storytelling with Alex B Sheridan How do you turn a talent for rap, comedy and storytelling into a social media business? From Son of a Pimp and an Orphan to Successful CEO with JeVon "JT" McCormick
22. From Son of a Pimp and an Orphan to Successful CEO with JeVon "JT" McCormick How does the son of a pimp and an orphan with the name of a Scotsman, living impoverished, in squalor, grow up to be a corporate hero and leadership scholar? How can you be empowered by your story - and not defined by it? And why is achieving the American dream not always a reason to be proud of where you came from?  Welcome to The StoryPowers Podcast, the show about the power of stories, the people who tell them and why you should be doing it too. I’m your host Francisco Mahfuz. My guest today is JeVon "JT" McCormick.  JeVon shouldn't have succeeded. He was born the mixed-race son of a drug-dealing pimp father and an orphaned, single mother on welfare. He was raised in the slums of Dayton, Ohio, suffered incredible abuse and racism, and had multiple stints in the juvenile justice system. He barely graduated high school and has no college degree. But none of that stopped him becoming the President of two multimillion-dollar companies. Currently, JeVon is the President and CEO of Scribe Media. What’s Behind A Popular Talk, and Why You (Probably) Shouldn't Do One with César Gómez-Mora
13. What’s Behind A Popular Talk, and Why You (Probably) Shouldn't Do One with César Gómez-Mora  Are TED (and TEDx) talks exactly as you see them online? Who should give a talk - and who shouldn't? What would public speaking look like if you could make PowerPoint fun? Welcome to The StoryPowers Podcast, the show about the power of stories, the people who tell them and why you should be doing it too. I’m your host Francisco Mahfuz. My guest today is César Gómez-Mora, one of the Godfathers of public speaking in Spain. César organises both TEDx and Ignite events in Valencia, where he also coaches most of the participating speakers. César runs his own coaching company, saving the world from boring presentations one speech at a time. He was also a National Champion of Public Speaking. Luckily for me, he mostly competed in Spanish, or I’d probably have a few less wins to brag about. You can find César at fourthwall.es. If you like the show, please leave us a review, share it and SUBSCRIBE! The support is very much appreciated. And please send me your comments on what you'd like to hear on future episodes. You can connect with me on LinkedIn, where I post daily (or as close to that as my children will let me), and on storypowers.com. You can also check out my book "Bare: A Guide to Brutally Honest Public Speaking" on Amazon. Show Notes A couple of clarifications: TED is the main event, which happens typically once or twice a year (usually in Vancouver). Most of the famous talks you think of as TED talks come from those events. TEDx are essentially franchise events organised by volunteers all around the world, which have to follow strict guidelines set up by TED. There are thousands of these a year, but only a very select few are promoted by the main TED website, ted.com. You can only give a TED talk if you're invited to so so, whereas it's a lot easier (but not easy) to do a TEDx talk. Toastmasters International is the largest organisation of public speaking in the world, with thousands of clubs all over the place. If someone calls themselves a "Champion of Public Speaking" (as I do) what they usually means is that they won't a Toastmaster competition at either national or international level.
