Gary, Marty and Me - My story of surviving two brain tumours.

In this episode I talk about my past faith, how I lost it and how I turned to faith in medical science to get me through my brain surgery.

In my podcast I have so far only focused on events from my perspective but when our daughter Charlotte visited the UK from New Zealand I took the chance to interview her and our other daughter Rebecca on the rare occasion that I had them both together.

We chat about the impact of my diagnosis on them and how our quiet steady lives were totally disrupted by a brain tumour diagnosis. I found it very moving to hear what they felt and went through.

In this episode I look back over the first 5 days of my recovery post operation and try to give some comfort and encouragement to anyone who has such an operation coming up.

In this episode I am out and about for the first time since getting home from the hospital on a beautiful day in Harrrogate, watching with envy as my wife goes for a run, while I had to wait 6 weeks before starting again.

You can tell from my voice that I am glad to be alive after surgery and glad to be free of hospital wards and my bedroom.

In this episode I remember the first time that I needed glasses and how they gave me a new clarity of vision. My diagnosis had the same effect, making me try and see life in a new way, appreciating every detail and moment.

In this episode I look back at my childhood Christmas's and my first Christmas with Gary and Marty.  I talk about a meeting with my Glioma Neurosurgeon because of worsening symptoms but despite this it ended with my wife and I in hysterical laughter.

My first meeting with my Neurosurgeons suddenly made this whole experience feel very real!  Hospitals are familiar ground for me thanks to my 36 years married to a Radiographer so I wasn't worried about my time that was planned to be spent on a ward.

In the first episode, I talk about the power of words to change your life and how the direction of our lives changed completely with the words "I'm sorry Mr Hannah but you have two brain tumours". In this series I will talk about the coping mechanisms that have got me through some dark moments and the fact that you can still find humour in even the most difficult circumstances.

I hope this podcast will help those diagnosed after me to understand what is to come and take some of the mystery and fear out of the process.
