Happy New Year 2022 ! Last year I watched 314 movies including documentaries, plays, standup specials, and tv series. Most were good, some were great, and some I could have done without. Having not watched feature films in 2020 I loved going back and watching them again. On today's podcast I'll list 10 movies among those 314. I won’t spoil stories but will try to make arguments as to why you should watch them or might want to. I’ll also mention some that were incredible but didn’t make the list.

Death hadn't shook me like this ever before. I woke up to the news that Norm Macdonald has died after nine year long battle with cancer. He has talked about death, meaning of life, and joked about death so much that is seems unfair not to take his passing in the same manner. He lived for comedy. He was great at it. In fact he was the funniest comedian of all time. Maybe not the most famous, maybe not the most successful, but definitely the funniest. His book 'Based on a True Story' is a work of creative genius and the amount of profound ideas he's shared throughout his career takes him a grade above your standard "comedians". He was to me, as for many other, a great source of joy and a master who showed with example how to look at life. And also, how not to look about life. He was a great gambler and today finally the house have won. With all naivety I actually thought I'd meet him someday. Well, goodbye Norm. I love you.

I recently watched and read some pieces of art that were surprisingly similar in themes they dealt with. The novel Atonement, the film The Straight Story, and the short story बखतेले आमा मार्यो, they all talk about the ideas of growing old and living with some unresolved issues. Today let's talk about making amends. What it means to make peace with things you can't resolve. How ageing, death, and the guilt of having to survive with death all around changes people.

Burden of dreams is a documentary that follows the making up process of Fitzcarraldo, a 1982 film about a would-be rubber baron Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald, an Irishman known in Peru as Fitzcarraldo, who is determined to transport a steamship over a steep hill to access a rich rubber territory in the Amazon Basin. It was directed by Werner Herzog and is considered one of the most troubled production of all time. Like the story of the lead character Fitzcarraldo, this saga of making a movie against all odds has a bitter sweet ending as well. 

Today let's talk about the documentary Burden of Dreams,  about Werner Herzog, and about to what extend should one go in order to achieve their dream.

Today's episode is about being yourself. What does it mean to be yourself ? How can we be ourselves ? Is there even such a thing as what we are supposed to be like ? How do we find out ? Today, let's talk about being ourselves and how this idea affects our life.

Krapp’s Last Tape is a one-act, one-man play by Irish avant-garde writer Samuel Beckett. Krapp is elderly and emotionally depressed writer. It is his 69th birthday. To mark the occasion, Krapp first listens to a tape he made on his thirty-ninth birthday to record important events and thoughts of the past year. Today let's talk what an artist pays for their artistic pursuit and if the mere possibility of success is enough to abandon the people and things we already have.

I recently saw Bo Burnham record himself turning 30. It was one of the most eye opening moment from his special. To be aware that you're constantly changing, ageing each year, crawling towards the inevitable. As Heraclitus mentioned “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man” I wanted capture/record the person I was at this time. I have been very lucky with life. This episode is my contemplation on mortality and denial to the fact that I am no longer 21.

Bhanubhakta Acharya was a Nepali poet, translator and writer. He was the first writer to translate the Hindu epic Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali. Because of his contribution to Nepali language he is revered as AadiKavi all across Nepali Speaking parts of the world. He was born on 29th Ashadh 1871 B.S. Each year during the time of his birth date some misogynist excerpts of his texts are brought to light and his legacy is questioned. Today let's talk about how we should see figures like Bhanubhakta Acharya in the modern times.

Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter have evolved into major public platforms for the communication and information. Sometimes their policies regarding speech and censorship can be tricky. It has stopped harmful and possibly dangerous contents to infiltrate people's timeline but at the same time has lead to censorship of silly hastags as well. Today I talk about how there is little place for ambiguity or satire in social media. I take examples from my own experience regarding censorship and suspension.

Bo Burnham is an American comedian, musician, actor, film director, screenwriter, and poet. He recently came out with his third comedy special called Inside. He wrote, filmed, edited, and performed it himself. Filmed in his home during the COVID-19 pandemic without a crew or audience Inside has received rave reviews and has been lauded for it's music, technical qualities, and introspective elements. Inside is one of the most fascinating work of art I've seen in a long time. Today I talk about it's complex satire and it's ambiguous nature. I talk about the complexities of such satire and how it can backfire as well.

Today's episode is probably the most rawest episode I've published. This is more of a musing on a topic than a formal episode. I speak about various things including Hamilton, migration, and meaning of life.

Friends was the ultimate show of the 90's. Although the show wrapped up after it's 10th season on 2004 it's still growing in popularity and is still teaching newer generations about life. Amongst the millions of fans, I know one whose life has not been the same after watching the show. Kabita Pathak is Doctor by profession and Friends aficionado by interest. She's also a part of What The Book Club and hosts The Bookish Universe podcast. Today we talk about the show Friends, it's long awaited reunion, and the impact it has made on pop-culture as well as public conscience. Pleas give it a listen.

Aadarsh Mishra is a Nepali stand-up comic and content creator. He had been struggling for long time to save his father who was suffered from kidney failure. Despite his efforts Mr. Mishra passed away. For the death of his father many factors played roles. Him being from Terai was one of them. Because of where he came from he couldn't convince the medical authority to transplant the kidney from his relatives to his father. His last tweet before his Father died read; I don't want to lose my Father. This was not a death but a murder promulgated by a flawed system and deep prejudice that prevails in our society. My deep condolences to Mr. Mishra, and I hope Aadarsh and his family will find the strength to cope through this time. Today's episode is about this failure of Nepali health system which have led to several avoidable deaths.

This is my two cents on recent controversy of violence and the backlash that has resulted from the revelation. I speak about activism through social media and few problem that need to be addressed about it.
