Occupation: Resilience Expert Obstacle: Stutter with guest Vanessa Mathews of Asfalis Advisors

Vanessa Mathews was only 21-years-old when she became the first woman in the State of Georgia with a degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management. In this episode of the She Dreams In Color interview series and podcast, she discusses her Occupation as a Resilience Expert with host Jennifer Moxley. Vanessa talks about how being the youngest, usually the only woman, and many times the only African-American in the room has taught her to trust her own voice as she lead global leaders to assess their risk and implement resiliency solutions. Surviving being in a 135 mph tornado inside her car as her car was lifted off the ground, totaled and dropped down in Atlanta gives Vanessa a perspective of crisis unique to many in her field. While Vanessa is a global voice in crisis management and resiliency planning, she talks about her Obstacle of living with a stutter and how she didn't seek support for it until she moved to Charlotte, NC eight years ago and felt as if her success was connected to her verbal messaging. Vanessa is a dynamic, joyful guest who shares the six core values that are nonnegotiable for her business Asfalis Advisors. She's a leader who is vulnerable, admits when she doesn't have an answer and values the support network she's built around her. As a resiliency expert, Asfalis Advisors works with businesses in critical infrastructure on a national perspective such as financial services, the energy sector, airports and organizations with complex supply chains. While Vanessa admits her age, gender, and race can work for her, she says it can also work against her. She has adapted by building community no matter where she is, a lesson she learned from her parents. Occupation: Dessert Chef Entrepreneur Obstacle: Time Management with guest Yarí Guzmán

On this week’s episode of She Dreams In Color™ Video Series we talk to Yarí Guzmán, the teenage Dessert Chef Entrepreneur who started her business in March 2020 after receiving a Kitchen-Aid mixer for her birthday. The beginning of the global shutdown and the introduction of virtual school created an opportunity of time for Yarí which allowed her to test her skills as a Dessert Chef and owner of Dariela’s Sweet Taste https://www.instagram.com/darielassweettaste/

In her interview, Yarí discusses her calling to the Occupation and her self identified personal Obstacle of time management. Despite being a young entrepreneur, Yarí doesn’t see her age as a challenge. In fact, Yarí always knew she wanted to be her own boss, but didn’t learn the word Entrepreneur until enrolling in A.C.E. Academy Charter School @A.C.E. Academy. There she also learned the principles and concepts of being self employed.

Yarí shares her perspectives that will re-center any entrepreneur struggling with taking on new challenges, saying Yes, work/life balance, and believe it or not, this young lady drops a lot of insightful gems. She’s already made national news for her entrepreneurial journey and there’s no question Yarí is going to fulfill all of her career goals and dreams. As a Latina, she says she has a specific goal to visit Hispanic countries to learn about and dive into the dessert culture and then blend it with her dream of French dessert training, to create her own visionary sweet treats.

This young woman will win you over and we encourage you to follow her Instagram page to watch her entrepreneurial journey unfold.

Occupation: Mompreneur Obstacle: Limiting Beliefs with guest Tiffany Mason

On this week's episode of She Dreams In Color™ Video Series we talk to Mompreneur Tiffany Mason owner of https://www.tiffanymason.com/home-1 and The Hygge Mama https://www.thehyggemama.com Tiffany raises her family in Charlotte, NC but coaches mamas around the world on finding their authentic parenting style. She believes moms need coaches and community to support the most important jobs they have to do.

In this episode, Tiffany talks with host Jennifer Moxley about her Occupation as a full time mom and how she is making a career of it, as well as, her Obstacle of Limiting Beliefs. Tiffany talks about how mothers need to have an identity outside of Mom, Wife, and Partner. She says while she's all of those things, she is identified as a Creator, Producer, a Lighthouse. And those qualities will stay with her long beyond her children growing up and leaving home.

As a competitive ice skater and ballroom dancer in her early life, performance and winning were important benchmarks for Tiffany. But parenthood isn't so clear. She's had to learn to work through her perfectionism as a mother and with the skills she learns, she coaches other mothers through the journey. With the pandemic, homeschooling opportunities unfolded and Tiffany found herself taking on the role of teacher for her boys. And as with every milestone, she wanted to share what she learned with other mothers and she created Poplar Forest, a homeschooling cooperative.

Tiffany's words affirm the journey of motherhood is hard and messy, but you also hear her say time and time again showing up, being present, and loving your children is all our kids want from us.

Occupation: Certified Cicerone Obstacle: Child of Immigrants with guest Razia Gonzales

Occupation: Certified Cicerone Obstacle: Child of Immigrants with guest Razia Gonzales

On this week's episode of She Dreams In Color™ Video Series and Podcast, we talk to Razia Gonzales, Certified Cicerone®, https://www.instagram.com/brewjer/ about her Occupation as an expert in the male-dominated #Beer industry. She got her first exposure to brewing and fermentation when she took a Home Brewing course as a college elective but it would take years before she followed that career pathway.

As a child of immigrant parents, Razia felt this both as a blessing and an Obstacle. She said many children of immigrants understand the constant weight to make sure her parents' sacrifices were not wasted. As the first in her family to graduate from college, she attended law school afterwards but never felt it was her calling. In her interview, Razia talks about fighting through the guilt she felt leaving her corporate job to step into her calling. She also talks about the effects of this guilt on children of immigrants who grow up under immense pressure to overachieve.

Like many women, Razia followed certainty and a comfortable paycheck in the corporate world with marketing jobs that she was good at but didn't find fulfilling as she'd hoped. As she began to feel the effects of burnout, she made the difficult decision to walk away and throw her all into her passion for brewing. Razia tried to land jobs in Miami but there didn't seem to have many opportunities for women in the beer industry other than front of house. When she moved to Charlotte she says other women in the industry gave her a chance and supported her. She's now one of 4,000 Certified Cicerones® in the world and takes pride in her ability to open doors for other women and women of color in the industry women actually started.

Her Occupation is one that she fought against for years because it didn't fit the traditional work model many envisioned. Love Your Woo replaces the weird and makes it wonderful. It's a place where the woo is no longer taboo.  Through workshops and retreats, Jess encourages others to discover which "Clair" they are in tuned to and how to foster that magical gift. Occupation: Construction Project Manager Obstacle: Domestic Violence with guest Tish Miles, PMP

On episode seven of She Dreams In Color™ we have a conversation with Tish Miles, PMP, a Construction Project Manager who is currently working in the HVAC industry but spent years in the asphalt and concrete industry too.  She's a true example of #WomenInConstruction. Through the help of her mentor, Julius Clark Sr, Tish identified she was good at processes, improving systems, and managing people, so she explored Project Management and became certified as a Project Management Professional. Tish's Obstacle was deeply intertwined with her Occupation. She discusses spousal abuse and living with a narcissistic partner. How she took an almost 50% pay cut to work from home and stay with the children but that career step backward created a block for her personally and professional.  Tish explains how she didn't grow up abused, seeing domestic violence or witnessing harmful men, so when it slowly began happening to her she didn't recognize it. She says she now lives her life as a faithful servant to God's plan for her and follows that road no matter where it goes.
